The frosted egg shook and cracked, revealing a small green. This green, unlike her sister, gave a squeal of delight as the first raindrop hit her nose, and bounced out of the remaining shell. She seemed a bit perplexed by the presence of the candidates, giving a cheep as she glanced up at her mother. This was fun! Everything was fun! This sky water was fun! Oooh, and a brother! She bounced over to the brown, greeting him with a gentle headbutt. She moved to lick at the Wicked Green's wound.

The Wicked hatchling hissed, darting away from the Frosted. STAY AWAY!

Lypith gave a bugle of joy and welcome at the emergence of the playful little green. Oh how she wanted to join her. Surely Hyweth wouldn't mind if she got just a little closer, what if what if she hovered but never touched the sands. That didn't count as invading the gold's space right? This was just so exciting with the new queen impressed and three little ones on the sands being all cute. Who could resist?

Alara could sense her bondmate's excitement and looking up could faintly see the green shifting on her perch. Was she really going to fly down here!

It didn't come as a surprise in the slightest that the Wicked green would dart away from her newly hatched sister. She was most likely incredibly upset, and he wished her siblings would just let her be for now. Didn't they have theirs to find? He felt himself becoming somewhat grumpy, and he was a bit put off by how emotionally invested he had seemingly become in all of this. Didn't he just want to get this over with so he could get back to his life? Yeah.

Everything would be fine, right? These dragons would find theirs, and he'd be able to leave. Yep!

Kaimi

Oh, the Frosted egg! That had been the one that had all of the candidates dance for it! And the sweet little green that emerged, bouncing around on the sands, seemed as if she had just been waiting to dance herself.

The Wicked green didn't seem to be terribly impressed with her more enthusiastic clutchmate, but Kaimi wasn't particularly surprised by that. The Hidden brown, at least, didn't seem bothered by the little green as she bounded around joyfully.

Dianno

The gold was off the Sands, so at least one terror-beast was down. She was soon replaced by two more dragons. They seemed more interested in themselves than the candidates though, especially the first green who retreated to lick her wounds. Dianno shrugged to himself. Guess that's what you got when you messed with the Big Bad Importants. They were always stressing how important golds and bronzes were to the weyr. Guess you just had to sit back and let them boss you.

Frankly he hated that. He felt that way about the whole shaffing weyr though. Oh he wasn't weyr born, he wasn't a rider, he wasn't groveling over the privilage he was being offered. They could take their privilege and shove it up their tailforks. He didn't even want to Impress a dragon! Not if it meant being leashed to a weyr for the rest of his life! He was only here because his mother insisted and well she could go eat wher dung too for all he cared! She was just like the rest of them, bossing him around and not letting him do what he wanted. It's not like he was going to hurt anyone.

As the Wicked hatchling hissed and darted away from the more exuberant Frosted green, the brown seemed to decide that she was sufficiently able to take care of herself from this point. She certainly was snippy enough, and had gotten her feet back under her. Satisfied that his sister no longer needed him standing guard, the Hidden brown seemed to shift his attention to the task at hand. His head raised and turned towards the cluster of male candidates.

He began to move towards them, his motions deliberate. But he had also managed to capture the attention of the Frosted green, who didn't seem terribly concerned that her sister wanted nothing to do with her. Frosted danced and cavorted around the Hidden brown - didn't he want to play? Those would still be there. But there was water falling from the sky, and wasn't it lovely? Wouldn't he just like to take a romp around the sands before he went and got himself Impressed? No? Oh well.

As the Frosted green wove herself around the other brightly colored eggs, poking and nuzzling here and there, the Hidden brown once more turned towards the male candidates. He seemed determined. There were things to be done, and there was an order in which to do them.

Shifting from foot to foot, the tan young man noticed his legs growing stiff from standing still; causing him to move slightly in his spot, stretching. This was going to be a long day. Peering upwards after fiddling with his sleeve hems, the sight of the brown approaching the male candidates struck him. Oh, was it finally someone's turn on this side of the sands? Well, this could be interesting, he supposed. He just hoped it didn't take too long, but the brown by far seemed more set on his goal than the others did.

What was with that, anyways? Why did the other hatchlings seem to put off impressing for so long? He really had no idea what was going on in their heads. Wasn't impressing all that they were concerned about? Well, whatever. Watching the brown, he looked around at the other boys, curious who he was looking at.

Kaimi

Kaimi noticed the brown stalking towards the male candidates, but then she got distracted by the Frosted green's antics. She noticed that a lot of the girls seemed focused on that spirited little dragon who was currently the most entertaining think about the hatching. The brown seemed very focused on the boys, which meant all of the girls were hungrily watching the two lovely greens.

Kaimi did find herself sparing a glance towards Paige, the only one of them who had impressed thus far. A wash of longing swept through Kaimi. She hoped that she would be able to join her friend. This might be her one and only chance to become a dragon rider. Who knew when there would be another clutch? She might be too old by that point.

Mairin stretched and shifted from foot to foot, not minding at all the squishy and warm wet sand that ended up between her toes and in between her foot and the sole of her sandals. Not much was happening now, all the little dragonet seemed content to do their own thing, although for the moment that at least did not involve fighting. Mairin liked a good rumble now and again, a testing of her strength vs another. However seeing the hatchlings fight did not stir her blood or fill her with a sense of thrill like her own bouts of competitive battling.

She wondered what things looked like for those in the stands. All they likely saw were sheets of rain, soaked candidates and blobs of colour representing dragons occasionally scuttling across the sands.

The Hidden brown moved purposefully through the crowd of boys, pausing here and there to poke or sniff at one of the candidates. But still, he did not seem to find what he was looking for. There had been... but where was... oh! Well. That hadn't taken nearly as long as it could have.

There you are, Saenshu. The brown sat on his haunches directly in front of the dark haired boy, looking up at him with eyes that whirled like living rainbows. There is work to be done. And we must do it together. I do hope that you are ready, Mine.

Demanthra

Demanthra had been enjoying her meal, when she heard the humming from the dragons. She felt a rush of excitement as her food was forgotten and she rushed off to the candidates living area, to change into her white robes. The rain didn't dampen her spirits at all as she skidded into the barracks and changed as quick as she could. Then she rushed off to the hatching sands, bowing to the golden mother, before taking her place among the girls. She was soaked to the bone, but she seemed to still have her usual smile on her lips. She looked up to see her sister near her dragon and she waved cheerfully. Then she watched some of the dragons hatch and she felt another rush of excitement, seeing two of the dragons already impress. She hadn't worried about the tussle of two of the dragons, she knew all would be fine. She kept focused on the eggs, hoping one of these babies would be her own. She so earned to be a rider like her big sister, but she knew Ashlyn had told her to be patient.

Astriana

Astriana had heard the humming, but did not know what it meant at all. When she saw the other candidates rushing off, it hit her, the dragon eggs must be hatching. She was excited to see the new baby dragons, but unlike some of the others, she got to her feet in a calmer manner, before heading over to change into her robes. She sighed softly about the rain, but did not show it bothered her to get wet. She got changed into her robes as soon as she got there, then headed to the hatching sands. Once there, she bowed formally to the golden dragon, before going over to where the female candidates were. She looked down at herself and wasn't pleased she was wet and looked up to see a green who agreed with her about the rain. She watched the gold and some others hatch, knowing the gold wasn't going to her. She saw it impress to one of the other girls and that confirmed her thoughts. She looked over to the boys, trying to see what her twin was thinking on all of this. She had noticed the limping green and felt sorry for her.

Ashlyn and Gyafrith

Ashlyn had been one of the first to arrive as soon as Gyafrith had told her it was time. She sat beside him at the top, his wing covering her to keep her from getting wet. Ashlyn was still getting used to the fact she was now a full fledged rider and that she was not one of the ones on the sands this time. She had waved back to her sister, a soft smile on her lips. She was looking forward to seeing what was in those eggs and who would impress to those dragons. She knew some of them had been in previous hatchings and knew from experience how painful it was. She was actually here so she would know who she and T'rel would be dealing with as Weyrlings and to support her sister..well, and she loved hatchings.

Ashlyn mine, am I keeping you dry? And isn't your weyrmate and Kosth supposed to be coming too? Do you think that little green will be alright, it was limping,Gyafrith spoke into his rider's mind. Ashlyn reached over and stroked his hide.

"I am perfectly fine, thank you, my dear dragon. Yes, I am sure they will be along soon enough, if they did not get busy, so please stop worrying. And if it is anything like our hatching, the little green will be fine,"the young woman assured.

Saenshu's icy gaze was fixed on the brown the entire time it lingered near the male candidates, extremely calm as he was very confident this was not where he was meant to be. No, he was here due to the pressure of others. Yet, this gaze... faceted and multicolored, it would not waver from his own. Before he knew it, the brown was sitting before... him? Wait, what? Was this a dream? Did he pass out from the humidity? No.. this was real. This willful, strong dragon had chosen him. The one who had decided it best to defend his sibling rather than antagonize it. This one, he simply thought, unbelievably caught off guard.

There you are, Saenshu. There he was? He had been looking for him, out of all of these candidates? There is work to be done. And we must do it together. I do hope that you are ready, Mine. Work to be done? Well, yes. There was plenty to do, but this pair of mesmerizing eyes told him it was not what he had been planning. Even so ... he did not mind. No, it was different now. These feelings, these sensations - there was more to him now; it was simply not just him.

"I, uh.." He paused, a hand moving to place itself on the snout of the brown in front of him. Yes, Jaecath. Come, it's time for food. If he knew anything, it's that the next step was food. Yes, one step at a time; that was what he could focus on for the moment. For Faranth's sake, he was going to be a dragonrider!

You are a dragonrider, S'aen. He paused mid-step, tripping on his own feet briefly and recovered with a slow smile. S'aen. I like that, I'll keep it.

Becka wasn't happy, rain and wet sand and sharp claws and teeth weren't a good combination. Still she trusted her superiors that they knew what they were doing and followed their lead to the Healers tables nestled towards the back of the Sands, out of the way of rampaging dragons and definitely away from the candidates. There wasn't much Becka could do for the moment except watch and wait for people needed tending to, minor scratches were a matter of pride for some candidates and usually only heavy bleeding or tramplings would lead the healers into action.

She watched as from the egg that had seemed to like her, emerged a green, small but seemingly fine. Becka didn't blame the young dragon for staying in her shell, the weather was horrid. Well now she was challenging the sky? This wasn't thread, nothing could stop the rain pouring down, she felt kind of sorry for the green, yelling about something she had no control over. And now she'd moved behind the gold egg? Oh hey, whacking it wasn't nice. Then the green ran over to the pale egg, she hoped that the small green wasn't going to cause too much trouble.

Becka frowned, the Green was taking too long to find hers, running around and hiding, exhausting herself, that wasn't a good thing to be doing but Becka was only a healer, an apprentice at that, so she kept her mouth shut and just watched, keeping an eye out for potential injuries as the green seemed to take offence at one of the candidates.

Oh! the Gold, she hatched, and wasn't she just beautiful and... sinking.. oh no, Becka almost started before remembering her place and stayed still as the gold raced towards the girl the green had been bugling at, Oh please don't fight, please she thought to herself. And there it was..the Gold attacked the green, Oh no no please stop she thought again, forcing herself to stay in place. Then there it was, Impression. the Gold had Impressed to the girl she had apparently been defending......phew.....

Oh no, the Green was hurt and Becka's heart ached, she wasn't a Dragon Healer and neither was she a candidate to even try and go help her, she watched as the green limped behind the pale egg, only to tumble moments later as a hatchling emerged ..from... under the sand, At least this one seemed more protective than the Gold, he seemed like a kindly one.

Oh the frosted egg hatched into an amusing little green, though Becka's thoughts were for the poor injured green she couldn't help but smile at this one's seeming lust for life. Oh she moved towards the brown and the little green, She didn't blame the smaller green for hissing a warning to the boistrous green but it seemed the freshly hatched one was only trying to help. At least they were both leaving her alone now, but the first green really should get a move on towards the candidates, the sooner she Impressed the sooner the dragon healers could take care of her.

Oh! the brown, there he'd Impressed, that was good. Becka glanced over to the small, injured green again then back towards the exhuberant green, she hoped the fresher hatched one would leave the smaller alone.

The Wicked Green, after tending to her wound as well as she could, made her way back to the candidates. Her eyes narrowed. There was one, smaller than the rest and clinging to an older one. A weakling. The green pounced, tearing at the white robe, reveling in the girl's screams.

Yes, scream. That was a good sound. Though the green did not seem too interested in injuring the girl, she did hover over her for a moment before bugling in the girl's face. That'd show her! Only the strong survive!

That was better, the injured green was heading towards the candidates but the other green was about too, she wondered what would happen between the two. Oh hey wait, NO! that mean green, she was slashing at a girl, Becka couldn't see any red that would mean blood but that didn't mean the green hadn't injured the young girl. She'd just been bullied herself by her Gold sister, now she was bullying the little kid? That was just mean. Becka's fists clenched, had the dragon been human Becka would have marched over and given her what for, Becka didn't like bullies, she knew that feeling all too well sometimes. The girl's frightened screams did seem only frightened though and not injured, she looked to the more experienced healers, they didn't seem too concerned so she tried not to be just yet.
