~~~Gavin Napier~~~
He couldn't help but keep that smile as she smiled back, even as she mockingly threatened to court-martial him. He caught the emphasis on his new rank, more the fact he actually had a rank. Here was the guy who had been hoping to avoid military service, but had only avoided the draft by dint of the world exploding before the draft officers got that far. He'd never intended to go so far as to avoid the draft, but he had always intended to not go into the military with anything short. And now here he was, serving on a warship with an officers rank. Talk about sharp turn.
"Right away Ma'am."
He wasn't terribly serious either with his tone, although the title was applied with a certain layer of respect. After all, she was an officer above him now. He'd never been trained but he'd picked up a few things from around. Besides, he had no reason to not respect her. Honestly, he had plenty of reason to, seeing all she'd dealt with here alone. But he stood up from the chair, and offered a quick salute. Was it correct? For the U.S. military, it was actually pretty good. Whether they used that here he simply didn't know, so he used what he did. Gonna take some getting used to. Then he turned to leave, bringing the pad up to that map again. He should get going, since shift change was soon. The lifts were probably going to be fairly busy once that hit. He was tired anyways, checking out those quarters sounded attractive.
Rosalie stepped out of the lift and into the conference room just as Gavin was stepping onto the lift. She smiled at him and nodded her head, watching as he stepped onto the lift. He held one of those padds in hand and looked very intent, like he had a newfound purpose aboard this ship. She could only hope she'd walk out feeling the same way. Her eyes then drifted over to the exhausted looking woman with pink hair who sat at the table. She couldn't help but smile as she immediately noticed the two toned eyes, it was something she had never seen someone other than herself have before so she couldn't help but grin. "You must be the captain. It's nice to meet you." Rose said, smiling genuinely and hobbling herself a little further into the room. She was irritated with these crutches already, but she didn't let that show, just using them for support as she stood and waited for the captain's response. She honestly wanted to just ditch them and stand on her own, but she did promise the doc she'd try. The captain looked incredibly exhausted and Rose felt for her, she herself was exhausted, although she was pretty sure the captain had a lot more on her plate.
She looked up and put on a smile. She felt a little embarrassed, as she'd nodded off.
"I see the doctor got a hold of you. Please, take a seat."
She gestured to the chair opposite her.
Rosalie grinned a little when the woman mentioned that the doctor got to her, shrugging her shoulders slightly and laughing. "Yea, I tried to tell her I didn't want crutches, but she insisted." Rose said, hobbling her way over to the seat the captain had motioned to. She sat down and leaned her crutches against the table she was sitting at before refocusing her attention on the captain. She looked exhausted and like she'd been awake for far too long. She didn't want to say anything about her sleeplessness or offend her in any way however, so she just waited for the captain to speak again.
Luna couldn't help but laugh. It felt good. She liked these new arrivals.
"Oh yes. She can be very insistent. But she knows her medicine. Best doctor in the discovered Universes, if I say so myself. She treated my father once. When he was younger than you. Saved his life."
She sighed, letting the nostalgia wash over her for a moment before she picked up a padd. It had all her information on it, including her picture.
"So, Rose, as you guessed, I'm the Captain. Admiral Luna, House of Davis. My Rank is Admiral, but my position is Captain. Long story."
She scrolled through the information.
"So, what do you do? What special skills do you have?"
Rose grinned a little when Luna laughed, leaning back in her chair. She felt relaxed around this woman. She listened to her speak about Doctor Sadenes, grinning and nodding a bit. "She's definitely insistent, but it's also obvious she knows what she's talking about." she said gently, knowing the more she thought about it that she really should listen to the doc's advice. If she was as good as the captain seemed to think she was, as well as what she had seen the doc do, she had to know what she was talking about. Plus everyone on this ship seemed healthy enough, other than the exhausted captain.
She then listened to the captain introduce herself, smiling gently and nodding. She wasn't about to question about that story. "Well it's nice to meet you Luna.. Captain.. how should I even address you?" she said, laughing a bit at her own confusion. She'd never had to call anyone captain before and wasn't sure if that was like a required thing or if she was just allowed to call the captain by her name.
When Luna asked about her special skills, Rose ran a hand through her hair, thinking about it. "Well, as far as skills go, I don't exactly have many. I dance.. at close to an expert level and have been training my whole life at Julliard for that purpose. Hence why I'm on crutches now." she said gently, thinking about what else she even did. It didn't occur to her that Luna would have no idea what Julliard was. She chewed her lip for a brief moment before adding "I mean, I was a scavenger for the camp, but I doubt that really comes in handy here. My real talent really just lies in dance." she finished, shrugging her shoulders. She felt kind of useless for not really having any other skill other than dance. She was in training to be a professional however and to make that her career. It was her life and her passion and would always continue to be.
"I'd hope so. That woman's been a doctor longer than I've been alive. Hell, she's been a doctor longer than my mother's been alive."
There was a look of recognition in her eyes at the mention of the school.
"Hey, I've heard of Julliard's! We passed by it once when my father took my on a tour of Earth. And just call me Luna, for now."
She scrolled through the padd, absentmindedly chewing on a strand of hair.
"Scavenging and dancing...you won't be on your feet for a few days, it looks like..."
She looked back up at rose.
"Any other skills? Any at all?"
Rosalie nodded at the idea of the doctor being a doctor for longer than Luna or her mother had been alive. She was a little confused by the concept, since that would most likely mean the doc had been a doctor since she was very young. But then again, Rose had no idea how old any of these people really were, so that completely added to the confusion. She let it pass however, grinning when Luna said she'd heard of Julliard. A look of pride passed across her face as the mention of the name of her school. "Ok, Luna it is then. And I'm glad you've heard of it, I didn't even think that you might not of. I miss it there, it was an amazing school." she said gently, nostalgia apparent in her voice. She actually ached to be back there and for things to be the way they were before the war, but she hadn't voiced that thought in years.
Rose knew just by the way Luna talked about her skills that she didn't have much use for them around the ship. She could see why they weren't really useful in this setting. She thought for a moment before speaking up again. "Well, I'm not sure if this counts. However, I'm actually really good at talking to people, getting through to them.. giving advice. Listening. I know that's probably not helpful either. I'm sorry, I feel like I don't have much to offer. I always pick up new things quickly though, I could probably learn how to do anything you needed me to help with. I just don't want to sit around without a purpose here." she said earnestly, trying to make it clear that she wanted to do something to help. She knew she didn't have the right types of skills for this ship, but she had adapted once before for life in the wastelands and she could adapt once again.
"Well, then when we get back, I could convince Daddy to nominate you to go. A nomination from him would get you in for free."
And she meant it. Luna's people loved the fine arts, her being no exception. But when Rose described her other skillset, Luna had a large smile on her face.
"I have the perfect civilian position for you. Normally, being a warship that travels around with other ships, we are never allotted one. But since we're here for a time, I'd like to appoint you as the official Ship's Counselor. And as a civilian, you wouldn't be bound by rank."
Rose didn't know quite what to say when Luna said she would convince her dad to nominate her to go. She hadn't even seen her dance, nor did she even know her. Yet she still showed such kindness. "Thank you, that would be amazing." she said softly, a deep sort of appreciation written across her features. The one action in itself had left her with total respect for Luna.
Rosalie watched as a smile spread across her face when she described her other 'skills' to her. She didn't really think they were viable skills, but she could tell that Luna had something in mind before she even spoke up. When Luna suggested that Rose be appointed ship counselor, she mulled over the idea, the concept seemingly fitting to her. "That sounds perfect.. thank you. I'd love to do what I can to help whoever needs it." she said, a smile turning the corner of her lips. It sounded like something she'd enjoy doing. She'd get to help people work through whatever issues they might have and learn more about them in the process. Something she hadn't ever thought about before, but was pretty sure she'd be good at.
"Just think of the benefits. No set work shedule, no set work station. And you get to wander around, talking with people, making sure everyone is okay. That even allows you access to areas your other comrades don't. Within reason of course."
She leaned forward, a serious look on her face.
"There is one catch, however. In a First Contact situation, you'd be on the Away team. You'd be responsible for judging the alien species, telling the teeam leader what you think of the alien you encounter. You'd be well protected of course. And we wouldn't initiate first contact if we felt there was going to be violence.""
Rose listened intently to what Luna had to say, wanting to understand her position as fully as she could. Her lips turned into a smile at the thought of it. She'd have a job, but it would be on her own time, which sounded absolutely amazing to her. She'd been on a schedule of her own making for years now, so she was glad she didn't have to jump right back into structure. She perked up a little more when Luna leaned forward however, a serious look coming across her face. She thought over Luna's words about being part of the Away team in her head, running through them. Honestly, it seemed exciting to her. Being one of the first to make contact with some sort of alien.. deem them friend or foe. "Honestly, that part seems like a benefit, not a catch." she said, immediately wondering if this was a strange thing to say. "I mean, of course it could be dangerous.. but I could also make a difference in our initial interaction with an alien of some type. And that's something I'd want to be part of." she clarified, wanting to make sure that Luna understood that she understood that the situation could be dangerous. It wasn't that she didn't care that it could be, she just felt she could honestly make a difference in this position and wasn't afraid of the consequences. She had become relatively hardened over her years in the wasteland, a lot less got to her.
She had a musical laugh. it was common to her species.
"A natural explorer. I like that. Then you are the official Ship's Counselor. Don;t let anyone pull rank on you. Position still applies. The Doctor and myself can still tell you what to do. And on an Away mission, the person in charge is over you. But that's it."
She handed Rose a padd that detailed the layout of the ship, and had a room marked.
"Unfortunately, I can't give you your own room. But I can stick you in with Miss Serena Fayne. She's the Mess Sergeant. You'll like her. And she can help, as she onows everyone on this ship."
Rose grinned a little when Luna laughed, saying she was a natural explorer. She would definitely disagree with that before the war, but now, she was as much an explorer as they came. She was one of the few who actually dared to leave the camp and she absolutely hated to be cooped up. So maybe the captain was right, maybe she could be considered a natural explorer. She listened to Luna's description of who could tell her what to do, realizing that not many people could. That was a nice feeling, to have some sort of position that held some rank. "Thank you, I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to do some good around here." she said with a smile, tucking a stray lock of fiery hair behind her ear. It was always falling in her face.
She took the padd fro Luna when she was handed it, a sigh of relief escaping her lips when she saw the map. Finally, maybe she wouldn't have to worry about getting so lost around here anymore. When she heard who she was rooming with, she lit up a bit, saying "Oh, I actually met her already. She seemed very sweet. She was actually the one who told me that you have heterochromia, like me." She grinned and blinked her blue and green eyes at Luna, wondering if she had even noticed. She seemed exhausted, but not one to let details slip. However, it was also possible that two-toned eyes like there's weren't as rare of a thing to her.
Though she was exhausted, with all the laughing she was doing, and the good mood Gavin and Rose had put her in, she seemed more alert, less haggard.
"Well, while it is unusual, my species is known for our cat-like eyes and odd hair color. My hair is naturally pink, ya know."
She stroked it. While it was normal to her, others found it intriguing. Then they met her mother, who had purple hair.
