Gale's eyes narrowed slightly. "It's not yours, it's mine," he said defiantly, his hand still outstretched. "It's mine, and I don't have to give you anything for it because it was mine to start with."

He wasn't sure what it did, that gem, or why he felt such a strong pull towards it; but he did know that it was his, it was his, and he wanted it back. Gale's brows furrowed and his lips pressed together in a thin line, bemusement overtaking some of the stubborness in his face.

"Summon?" he repeated. "What do you mean by summon? Summon what?"

He glanced at Otto, wondering if he knew what they meant, before his gaze went back to the boys. "We don't belong here," said Gale. "We're just trying to get back...home." If that was even the right word for it. "We were taken here against our will, and we're just trying to get back to where we came from."

He took a step forward. "Give me back that...gem, whatever it is."

Summon their... weapons? Maybe these kids did know who they were. Not likely. It probably had to do with their game. Or project. Otto wasn't sure how to answer them. Where he was from was an island that fought goblins and demons and horsemen. Was that any more outlandish than living in a game?

He rubbed his neck, hoping he wouldn't have to feel the sensation of being torn apart again. This was all Gale's fault. Man, he really hated Gale.

"We ain't from here, so we can't play your stupid game. We wanna get back to reality, where friggn' everything isn't always red."

"Yeah everyone wants to go back," Aiden snapped, moving further away from Gale, "but how long have you been here. We haven't seen a new face since-" he suddenly fell quiet, and looked to the sky where Peter Pan had made his appearance.

As he did so, the younger of the two, perhaps barely five, suddenly moved forward, unfastening the fragment to give to Gale. "Here," she said, rather matter-of-factly, "You are right. It is yours."

"What are you doing?" Aiden was all but throttling the other. "That was our only chance to get out. A fragment. She asked for a fragment and if we just get it to her we can get out."

"Or," the little girl said, staring at Gale, then Otto with wide eyes, "these two can help us get out. You'll help us right? All of us?" Pause. "Then you can get out too."

Gale's eyes moved sharply towards the girl, his posture tensing as though he was waiting for her or her friend to run both he and Otto through with their spears. When all she dd was offer him the fragment, however, he stared at it, and then at her, with unabashed surprise, mouth slightly open. He reached out and hesitantly wrapped his fingers around it, and then hastily pulled it towards him, afraid she might change her mind.

"She?" he repeated, with a quick glance at Otto. "Who is 'she?'"

Gale swallowed, holding tightly to the fragment. "Don't attack us," he said firmly. "Don't kill us, and we'll...well, I can't guarantee anything, but we can at least try to help...can't we Otto?"

"Yeah, anything to get outta this place." Otto agreed. Honestly, if they really were just children, he couldn't very well leave them to wither in this place. But.. just how long had the children been here? Otto wasn't even sure how long he and Gale had been there. Maybe a few hours...?

The fragment, upon reaching contact with Gale, simply disappeared-

- And he was complete again. It was strange, that sudden jolt of not realizing what exactly Gale had been missing until his weapon flared back as part of the missing whole.

Upon the consensus, the younger girl grabbed Gale's hand. "This way, this way, you have to be quiet."

This left the older kid and Otto. Aiden gave Otto a dirty look. "I'm not holding your hand." He began following the younger girl forward. They walked through deeper foliage, a different direction, past the long folded red trees and the red river, making a best effort to avoid the path.

"We don't walk down the path, he knows." the girl explained very clearly, confidently surging forward. She wasn't wearing any shoes and her feet were scratched and red, but she didn't seem to notice. At last they arrived at the base of a tree, a tree taller than every other, twisted and intertwined to form a hollow cavern at its base. "This way," she continued, pulling Gale forward.

The inside of the tree base was far larger than it seemed, easily encompassing the four and a very impressive squadron of children inside. All of them looked worn, damaged, some of them were already crumbling, around the arms, legs, one of them was missing their eyes entirely, but they looked better than last time.

"New arrivals," Aiden grunted, taking a seat on one of the red mushroom stumps inside the tree. He placed the spears against a smile pile at the entrance.

"So what's the plan?" This was echoed several times by several children, ones that moved closer to Aiden and the girl and the two new arrivals. "What should we do? Should we run? Should we keep on running? Should we fight? Who will lead us?" Their voices began to merge into a barrage of questions.

"They," the girl pointed at Gale and Otto, "will lead us. They are going to save us. They are older than us, they know more."

At the signal of being lead, all eyes turned to look at Gale and Otto.

It disappeared into his hand and Gale stood there for a moment, blinking somewhat dazedly -

- and then, with a sudden rush as though something had suddenly flooded through his veins, he felt a strange sense of fulfillment, a strange sense of completeness; which confused him; he put a hand to his chest, trying to figure it out -

<< Missed me? >>

Jinhai!

Relief washed over Gale, wonderful relief, and he almost didn't notice when the girl grabbed his hand, Gale stumbling along behind her as he tried to get his brain to catch up with the rest of his thoughts. He glanced back at Otto and the other as the four of them made their way down the path and towards the tree, Gale squinting at it in mild bemusement.

They will save us.

"Er," said Gale, as he looked from child to child. "I can't say that I know more than you, because I'm not sure I do - but we'll do our best to help you. Right, Otto?" he added, jabbing his elbow into the other's ribcage.

Otto smacked Gale's arm in retaliation for the jab to the ribs. "Whatever." He had no faith they could save anyone. He'd try. But the kids didn't know what to do, so why would they?

"Can we just kill that Peter Pan dude?" Take out the boss. Video game logic.

The kids shuffled nervously. They muttered to themselves but nobody spoke up until finally Aiden stood up. "We tried. We tried every single time, but nothing will hit it. You can't just use any weapon from here, it's her stuff so she'll take it back. Anything we make is useless. We could need something more powerful."

"And really big!" a kid chimed in. She was missing one arm and half her side entirely, but didn't seem to be too phased, "Really, really big!"

"Hang on," Aiden narrowed his eyes, "That fragment - your fragments are different from ours. They're not red."

"Fragments are weapons," another kid chimed in-

-"They create weapons-"

-"But those weapons belong to her-"

- "So who do yours belong to?"

There was a moment of silence as too many pairs of eyes stared up at Gale and Otto again. The little girl that had held Gale's hand the entire time suddenly pushed herself forward. She looked both curious and a little shy. "Can we see them?"

Gale looked at Otto, wondering if he was thinking the same thing - and that was they had weapons, weapons that were not from this world. His eyes cut sideways towards the children, then down to the little girl who was still clutching at his fingers.

"They belong to...us," said Gale slowly, "and I mean...well, I suppose we can try to summon them?"

He held out his free hand, wondering if it would work.

Otto hadn't considered that summoning Tenya would work, having assumed he was simply dreaming. After all, nothing really hurt here. He gave Gale a quick glance, before tugging Tenya's totem from his neck. With a thought of hope, he attempted to summon the six foot boomerang.

If this worked, that meant they could defeat Peter Pan. It meant they could get out of here.

What they got instead of a sniper rifle and a six-foot boomerang was a toy gun and a frisbee. The correct answer would have been close enough. At least their weapons were communicating clearly to them now.

The kids, however, seemed incredibly impressed as the pressed around the two, pelting Gale and Otto with questions of what they did and how they worked. They asked tonnes of questions, where the weapons - if they could be called that- came from, and if they could summon anything else, and if-

- Everything turned dark as for a singular second it felt like someone was watching them.

"No time!", screamed Aiden, grabbing the spears, handing some to the others. "We got to move now. We're going to do this. We're going to take on Peter Pan."

He and a few other kids lead the assault, moving forward onto the path. And like clockwork, there was a terrible noise, and then, a large horrific hand descended from the sky, narrowing missing some of the kids. A few managed to jab with their spears and forked weapons, some of them sticking out of the hand as it raised into the air. Seconds later fingertips the size of trees came crashing down next to Gale and Otto.

"Fight!" someone was screaming it to the two, but it was unsure who.

Neither Gale nor Jinhai really appreciated the change in weapon (Jinhai complained profusely something about size and intimidation and how he now he was Gale-sized), but at least it was something, which was much better than nothing.

Gale opened his mouth to answer their many questions, but there was no time, and no place. He gave a shout of surprise, somersaulting sideways out of the way of the massive hand and raised the gun, which was small enough to be able to hold with both hands this time.

"Bloody hell," he muttered, clicking the trigger, which did a marginal amount of damage, nothing like the sniper rifle would have done, but at least something.

"Oh come ON!" He grouched at his weapon. The kids were impressed, but he was not. Tenya was supposed to be massive and threatening, not cute and plastic! Tenya herself didn't seem to care either way, finding the whole thing hilarious.

However, Peter Pan had come to play. Otto ran like the wind, something he was always good at, until he was a safe distance away. He'd gotten hurt on the way past the giant finger, but nothing he couldn't shrug off.

With a grunt, he whipped Tenya at the hand. It felt significantly less effective. A lot less fun.

He may as well being playing fetch with his grandfather's dog.

Gale was finding it significantly harder to target without the use of the telescopic lens that he relied on when Jinhai was in his proper weapon form. He scowled at the plastic gun and shook it a little, as though this might somehow magically make it work the way a sniper rifle would work.

<< Oh, dear. >>

Gale's scowl just increased and he knelt on the ground, directing the gun towards Peter Pan again.
