Maebe tried to remember if she'd ever met an Eva, but came up empty. "Almost there?" She took that to mean they were still talking about his relationship. "Like, almost having sex? Or almost married? Or what?" But the talk of the beach distracted her, and she started to run ahead, looking for bodies almost immediately. "I won't ask you to lead me around the island unless the bodies are on the other side of the island. Then you can try to drown me."

She'd like to see him try.

"You said they were pinned or something? So it has to be on something, not on the sand, right? What's nearby?"

"Almost at the beach, you demented moron!" Otto growled back at her. maybe he hadn't paused long enough after saying her name...

"I.Don't.Know!" He snapped back at Maebe. "I don't know where they are! I'm about ready to give up on that damn mission report! Seeing a body won't help you clarify what happened to you, Maebe! If you want answers or closure, then you'll have to ask for a mission to help take them down!"

Maebe's footsteps stopped, until he passed her, and continued on. She stood there for a second, watching his back as he walked away. Her voice sounded small when she spoke, but loud enough for him to hear. It was an important question.

"I can do that?"

Otto turned suddenly, his arms coming up in a motion of rage. "YES! YES YOU CAN!" However... it depended on who she asked, as well. Mark would result in nothing helpful. Caelius would result in death or worse.

"Well, you're a trainee, so you ain't got much sway. But maybe down the road. I dunno. OFFER YOURSELF, Mistress of Temptation!!"

Maebe's expression turned sly at her brand new nickname, and she returned to teasing him by walking up and brushing three fingers across his cheek.

"Awwww." She coo'd softly. "You think I'm tempting."

Otto gave her a flat look. "Tempting, yeah. Not desired in the least, though."

Maebe's smile never faltered. "Still a compliment." She turned, and started to walk backwards while facing him. Her steps were more skips than normal steps, and her hands clasped back behind her back. "Tell me about your girlfriend." She asked. Her tone was light, and strangely interested; but the smile on her lips was just as smug as ever. Whether or not she actually cared about the information was a mystery.

Otto kept his arms crossed, walking slowly just to piss her off since she seemed so intent on skip-hopping backwards. "She's my height, long black hair, blue eyes. Death Division." Otto said this in a sarcastic tone, knowing full well she'd been fishing for relationship goods like personality or something lovey dovey.

Fat chance.

"Curves?"

Otto couldn't have been more wrong.

"Not really." He admitted quickly.

"Oh look, a body." He waved her off toward the surf, where a body with an O shaped engraving on it's back was bobbing about. "Go play."

"Oh." She sounded legitimately disappointed. That disappeared the moment he pointed out the body, and Maebe stopped cold, staring at the floating body in the water. Right there, on the beaches of what she'd assumed was 'home base' and therefore sacred, untouchable ground, one of them had been killed and marked. It solidified the theory that Otto's information had borne within her.

Nowhere was safe.

Maebe stared at it, all color blanched out of her skin, and her arms wrapped around herself tightly.

"This place is such a disappointment."

"What exactly were you expecting?" Otto griped with crossed arms. He was no less disturbed by what he saw, but chose not to make much fuss over it. It was disturbing to know that as well as horsemen, they also had to worry about being murdered by their own kind.

"What did I expect?" Maebe's voice was hard to read, but even in her calm and quiet tone, betrayal was seething out. "What do you think I expected? What did they tell you when they signed you up for this place? Did they tell you about this?" Her hands gestured sharply to the body. "Did they tell you anything?" She did not wait for an answer. "I'll tell you what I was told. I was told I was getting a new chance to do something with my life. My life, okay? That doesn't include lying dead on a beach with a letter of the alphabet carved into my back. I didn't sign up for that."

She started walking closer, fearing the idea of looking at the Hunters face. But as soon as she caught a glimpse of it, she was reminded of a fact she felt very proud of. Of course she didn't recognize him - she kept herself at a distance. She would only have recognized a handful of faces, on this island. This was one of many people she'd never bothered to get to know.

But it could have just as easily been her. And that was her biggest problem.

"This isn't monsters and villains. This is us - human beings killing other human beings. This is a civil war. If I wanted to fight in the army, I would have signed up for it back home."

Otto was floored. He didn't see it coming. Maebe seemed like she took nothing seriously. He'd thought she'd seen it all as some game meant to entertain her. This 180 had him flabbergasted, unsure how to respond to her words.

He didn't expect this at all.

He even agreed with her, so he couldn't argue. On top of saving the world, they had to worry about their own killing them. It was a mess. A dirty mess. "Yeah.." He muttered, rubbing his neck and choosing to stare out at the ocean. "Not a whole lot we can do now.."

He fidgeted uncomfortably. "Come on.. lingering around here will make us tentacle bait." He avoided commenting further on her worry. He had no words to say. He'd seen the O group do a lot. He'd seen them kill. Sam died because of them.

Maebe did not accept the fact that there was nothing they could do. She had to do something. She moved closer, reaching down to push back a flap of coat. Something slid out of the Hunters pockets, but before she could grab it to see what it was, it disappeared into the sand. Lost forever, just like the life of the man in front of her. She let go of the flap, and it slid back into place, floating on the water. Dried blood was displaced off of the cloth when it was moved, and when the blood dissipated into the water, Maebe saw something that made her skin blanch white with disgust.

A Moon division symbol.

Maebe backtracked out of the water, and continued to walk backwards, filled with loathing and disgust. "Fine." She growled out. "Let's go. You've fulfilled your end of the bargain." She reached down between her breasts, and pulled out a very tightly folded piece of paper. She pressed it into his hands. "This is my real mission report. The one you're holding just says "Taym is a cocksucker" a hundred times. Sorry. I had to be sure you weren't going to leave me alone."

Her voice sounded all wrong when it was genuinely scared.
