Good. So something was being done over there. Ari watched for a moment longer to make sure that the tomas students had everything under control, fingernails tapping against her thighs.

Momentarily satisfied for the moment and promptly changing her mind on the idea of clearing the rubble, Ari turned back to Naomi. "What should we do about the fires? I don't think water in itself is strong enough to stop it all. Maybe if the air-using students tried to take out some of the oxygen..."

Ari paused mid thought, eyes falling on Ian and Nina farther away. "...Oh, wait. You still need one more to find."

__ The arm Iapyx had slung around Icarus's shoulder was immensely heavy.

The two stood in silence, for once, Icarus careful not to do anything too proactive so his brother wouldn't become suspicious and Iapyx frowning -- well, smiling slightly less vibrantly, -- at his phone. The chicks were in Icarus's arms, shielded by the smoke by Icarus's hat. (Which he had taken off, of course.)

"My, my, what kind of school is this, having something as dangerous as a dragon not properly locked up underneath it?" Iapyx muttered next to him, not even caring to look at the destruction and panicking students around him. Icarus was sure there were injured students his brother could help, but knew that Iapyx was in a mood to do anything but help others.
"Father really has such bad timing, calling for me now. I really do hate to leave you in an absolutely dreary place like this, Icarus, but I can't bring you along."

"It's--it's fine," Icarus quietly said next to him, voice soft and shoulders hunched a little to make himself appear more small. Being extra careful to stutter, Icarus willed his fingers and arms to tremble slightly. "I'm not scared to be without you, and you'll text me a lot, um....right?"

Despite Iapyx's smile growing, Icarus could sense his brother's demeanor darkening. "Well, it wouldn't hurt to stay with you as for now."

Icarus smiled at his brother, shifting slightly underneath the weight of Iapyx's arm. Annoyance thrummed at his insides, but he knew better than to even dare showing it. God damnit, would he get his arm off his shoulder already? Was there anyone brave enough to approach Iapyx and ask him to do something just so he could get his stupid arm off Icarus's shoulder?

Behind him, Icarus's shadow wavered. It seemed to shake like it was laughing.

Naomi was quiet as Ari appeared and then Aerykah left, scanning the rest of the scene with intense green eyes. Ari was right; water alone wouldn't do the trick. A few windwielders would be helpful, but the only students she knew of that were windwielders were Aerykah and Ari. Were there some of staff? She could've sworn there were.

Then Naomi paused. It wasn't a concept that was taught to the younger years, but maybe... "Interelement cooperation might work," she muttered. "Mom and I are water, you and Aerykah are air, if we paired off perhaps we could create an artificial storm..." It was an idea, a decent one, but she wasn't sure if it was one they could manage to pull off. Naomi had never worked with the concept of interelements before, and this wasn't the time to start experimenting with something that might or might not work.

She glanced at Ian and Nina further away; they were in sight now, which was a lot better than just a text message and calmed her nerves somewhat. Neither of them looked particularly scratched up. It was just Averill she was missing now, and the uneasy feeling in her gut was getting worse. Averill had never been good with adventure-type outings; how the hell was he going to respond to this? "I haven't seen him and he hasn't contacted me," she said. "And I don't know who last saw him, so I don't exactly have a lot of leads." Averill wasn't in the library, or he would've come with Ian. And she didn't see him with Nina, so he didn't come with her.

Naomi's gut twisted and she looked a little sick. He hadn't been... in town, had he?

Scarlett resembled a dark, wet, grumpy cat. She had been caught in the shower and had barely gotten out of Lucian dorms in time. Ari had already ensured her that her landscape was safe, and she'd retrieved the most important notebooks, but it was cold out and she was wet. Not to mention, as Gilrin said, the situation looked bleak. She wondered if she'd be allowed to stay at Merlin after this. Probably not, all things considered.

Then she looked at Gilrin. Gilrin, who, for all her talk, was shaking like a leaf. Scarlett had never heard of any Black Dragon before today, but Gilrin who had grown up in a magick community probably had. That meant she probably had heard stories of the dragon before it was sealed away. Scarlett wondered just how terrifying the thing really was.

"....nobody is dead... yet," she said quietly. "......it could've been worse." She spotted Icarus, but he was with Iapyx and probably wouldn't come anywhere near them until his brother left.

Nina seemed pretty distraught, but Ian figured that during now of all times, she had a good excuse to be distraught. They all did.

"I'm fine, Nina," he replied, glancing around. There was Naomi with Ari, and it looked like she had seen them so there was no need to check in. "You're not hurt, are you?" She seemed a little singed, so Ian guessed she was in the Commons when the dragon struck. At least she made it out alive, he found himself thinking. The situation wasn't as bleak as it could be. Still, things were pretty damn bleak. What were they going to do with a hostile dragon on the loose?

Ian glanced around the area. It didn't look like Averill had gotten to the tree yet, and over there was a crowd of Tomas around... oh no. Ian took a startled step forward before he realized that no, Cas wasn't dead, he just appeared to be exhausted. With that worry extinguished, he looked at Nina again. "I don't suppose you know where Averill is? He's the only one we're missing, I think."

That certainly didn't sound good. Ari's frown deepened as Naomi spoke. The Lucian could clearly register the idea that Naomi was beginning to consider, and so she took it upon herself to distract the girl.

The wind picked up slightly around the two, Ari slightly bending her fingers. It smelt like ash and smoke, but maybe it wouldn't for any longer. "Well, if you don't have any lead then we might as well try to take care of the fire first."

Raising up her hands, Ari cracked her knuckles and stretched her neck. Even if Naomi's idea didn't work, it was a place to start. "C'mon, let's try it. It certainly couldn't make anything worse."

Bijan's voice, and then Yani's, brought Shanta back down to earth. Okay, enough grieving. Daksha was dead, there was nothing she could do about it, but she could finish being upset about it later. There were other things to attend to. She was in pretty rough shape herself, she now remembered, as she shifted on Shashi and her leg twanged rather painfully.

Shanta took a deep breath and uprighted. "Right, okay," she said firmly. "Yani, to be totally honest I'm a complete mess but I'll tell you later once we know nobody's... y'know, dead." Her gaze drifted over to the Merchant, who was hunting among the staff for the healing professor, Marianne still in his arms. "First off, we need to gather all the Janus. End and I are here, Yani is here, and Pele is..." She scanned over the area and spotted the dark-skinned dwarf just outside the Janus Building. She didn't look too good. "Pele's over there. That's everyone accounted for. Okay, next step."

Shanta took another deep breath. She needed to think about literally anything except the dead body next to her. "I think we can leave the Merchant to his own devices for now, so let's try to put out any fires we can. That's probably the best thing we can do right now. Once we put out Janus Dorms we should probably make sure Tadion's body is okay and see what we can salvage." She looked at End. "Maybe you can use your vapor somehow to put out the flames. Once we've secured Tadion, I'll go to Professor Runesteam and get patched up."

She was doing it again - acting strong and putting others' problems before her own in the face of tragedy - but Shanta didn't care. In this case, she felt it was justified, and someone else's sort-of life was a lot more important than her stupid broken leg.

⊰aerykah - sampson⊱
When Cas sat up, Aery let out a large sigh of relief. Backing out of the way when Gage picked them up, she nodded. He announced he was going to the tree, and knowing that Din would follow, Aery tried to instruct: "Stay at the tree, I'm going back over with the House Reps to figure out what we can do. Keep an eye on Icarus, please one of you, and I'll figure out dorm arrangements once we figure out the injured and hopefully-not-deceased. Everything's gonna be okay, guys." the last part of her speech seemed a little forced, as the situation did look grim.

Watching to make sure they got to the tree safely, Aerykah returned to Ari and Naomi, knowing now that the three of them were a team once again. "Any idea on catastrophic blazes? I've been known to make a good explosion, but never one that has taken down an entire Commons and four dormitories," she said, with a pause, trying to indicate that she was thinking. This was awkward for her, but she knew that it could only get awkwarder for her if she let it. "Is there any way that any of the fire-wielders, if there are any, could help to keep the fire to one area while water and air try to put them out? Is that a thing? Are all your housemates here?"

Hopefully nobody realized that the noxious air from the Tomas area was her hair dyes.

The Merchant was having a really shitty day.

With the whole of Justus in flames, he wouldn't be surprised if his customer list suddenly decreased. There was no way that there wouldn't be fatalities. The fact that he and Marianne had made it out was a ********' miracle.

Speaking of Marianne, Merchant looked down at her, cradled in his arms. She looked... well, bad. The Merchant had never actually seen someone suffering from overuse of magic before, and after this he never wanted to see it again. In fact, after today, there were a lot of things he never wanted to see again. Dragons and that <******** Vivian Summers being at the top of the list.

There were a lot of things on the Merchant's mind at that moment - his destroyed cart, Justus in flames, the Black Dragon of legend flying the skies again that would likely torch another major city before those assholes on the Council actually did something about it - but first and foremost was Mari. Acknowledgement from the Headmaster told him that it was fine for him to be on the grounds, and with that he started searching for whichever damn professor knew a thing or two about healing.

"Oi! Which one of you magicks teaches these brats healing? I got someone sufferin' from magic overuse here!"

Shanta's quick recovery rang alarm bells in Muna's head, but there wasn't anything to do about it now. He was too exhausted to bring it up, and he knew it wasn't a conversation that was going to be happening in public any time soon. Bijan especially was apprehensive, but Muna had words to say and he didn't need his fairy pointing out stuff like that quite so soon.

I don't know how effective vapor will be on taking on the flames, but maybe it could protect us if we go inside? Like from the smoke and stuff Muna paused, tapping his chin. He was only a first year, so he wasn't sure how useful he could be. He was pretty sure Yani was, too, so....

Or we could go inside in improbs? I just don't think between the five of us we have the resources to put out the fire

Naomi wasn't sure in her own theory, but Ari sounded at least like she thought it was worth a shot, and that was good enough for her. "Well-" she began, but then Aerykah reappeared. Keeping a cool head, Naomi spoke before Ari could, trying to keep things civil.

"I've proposed a theory of interelement cooperation. I think air-and-waterwielding together should make a sort of artificial rain cloud which we can use to put out the flames. The only flamewielders I know of are Gage and Ian, and from what I know of that it's more difficult to control flames that aren't produced by the wielder." She paused. "I don't know where Averill is, and until I have another lead we may as well start on trying to put out the fires. I've no idea what we'll do about the Practice Fields - I think it would be best to leave that up to the professors."

Naomi's phone buzzed, and she checked it. "Mom's here, she's heading to the Oak. She said she'll help us put out the fires and then tend to any injured." Naomi nodded at Aerykah. "If you're on board with the interelement idea, why don't you and her pair up and try putting out the Lucian Building? Ari and I can take Ekaterina." Her eyes flickered over the other kids by the Oak already. "After the fires are out, we can drag Shanta and End over and discuss splitting up the students among the dorms that are still in livable condition."

Marinna Pritchett had appeared in the distance.

God, what a ******** nightmare.

Galan stood under the oak, every single one of his frogs perched on his head, and his hands were already glowing white. "If any of you ******** are injured, get your a** over here!" he yelled, his tone implying that any injuries they got were their fault, like how dare they hurt themselves in this situation. He waved the Merchant over and started work on Marianne, muttering all the while about what an idiot she was to go over her power limit.

"Damn woman," he muttered, eyes flickering as he diagnosed the damage. "She's only half an elf, gotta learn to not push herself so ******** far."

The whole situation was devastating, really devastating, and all End wanted to do was curl up in a ball. But it wasn't time for that. There was things to do and End had to do them. As much as Shanta looked alright now, she was crying not moments ago. End was sure that meant she was still distressed, but faking composure. She really didn't need more stress. He was just glad that the whole of Janus house was accounted for. At least that was one thing not to worry about.

"I don't think my vapour will be much help..." End added to the discussion. "But I'm sure we'll be fine anyway... Muna's right, we can use Improbs..." He glanced over at the group of other house representatives. "Maybe... maybe we can get a waterwielder to help us... maybe Naomi... or her mum..." He turned back to Shanta. "But you should stay here... get your leg healed... you can stay here with Yani and... and Pele unless she really wants to come..." End was really not sure about Pele at the moment. She seemed happy to him, but he didn't know what that meant in a situation like this. He guessed it was best to leave her to her devices.

Again, he turned back to Shanta. He knew her well enough that she probably wouldn't give up on coming with them unless she knew she was helping in another way. "Shanta... You should maybe check in with the headmaster... we haven't done that yet..."

Ari crossed her arms as Aery came jogging back, impatience written all over her face as Naomi explained what they had already talked about. God, they were wasting time. This was the exact reason she hated working with Tomas students.

"Now that we have a plan, let's attempt this already Nao." Ari said as soon as Naomi was done explaining. "The faster we attempt this the more stuff we have potential saving. Let's go." With that said, the wind around them began to pick up even faster. Ari knew that Naomi would probably want to take the lead, so she waited for the younger girl to start with the water.

"Let's," Naomi agreed. She didn't actually know if this would work, but it was a hell of a lot better than standing around doing nothing. Ari was right; they were wasting time by deliberating. Better to just take a jump and do it.

The stone in Naomi's hand glowed brighter as she summoned more water from the leaking fountain. It was probably more than enough, but you could never be too careful. "Okay, let's see if the theory works as good in practice as it does in paper," she said, pulling an orb of water the size of her fist away from the main bunch. Best to start with a test run. "I don't really know how else to put this, so... Ari, use that to make a cloud."
