Blinking slowly, Hafwen gave a nod as she processed Darren's explanation. "Family's important." She simply muttered, totally seeing where he was coming from as a protective older brother. His actions and intent struck a familiar note in her with her bestie Mercy in a somewhat similar position as Rosy. Had she not taken into consideration the fact that Mercy was not related to her by blood and whatever she had on a great many occasion contemplated doing would bring trouble to her and her family, she would have easily done what Darren did in a heartbeat.
"I guess there are times when we find ourselves in need of taking things in our own hands..." She settled for eventually with a small smile.

"More than most people know..." Darren muttered quietly, then his eyes widened a bit and he sat up straight, shaking his head a little and lightly smacking his cheeks with his hands in what probably looked like a bid to wake himself up a little bit. "Started to lull there for a second..." he said with a small smile. More like almost completely blew my cover with the girl I like and my mom - Smooth. He chuckled weakly and was very glad when the food arrived shortly thereafter, precluding him from having to speak further as he dug in.

Going along with Darren's reasoning for his actions and finding nothing out of sorts with it, Yvette didn't bother lingering any further on it, reaching over to gently prod his side with a finger. "No dozing off on us now. Ya still got another 12 hours or so to go before you're cleared."
It would be troublesome if he actually switched off on them like that and she really wasn't looking forward to spending another couple more hours at the hospital because of it. That was all there was really. Nothing silly and along the lines of her possibly falling for him.
She shook her head to cast that particular thought out of her mind, her eyes going wide from the spread laid out on the table the moment the waitress started arriving with their orders. "You're both right. They really know how to make a decent tasting chicken here and the portions are really big..."

"Yeah, they really know their stuff here," Darren said, finishing up about half his food and pushing the plate aside for the moment, letting his stomach settle. The rest would probably go in a box for later, but for now he just let it sit on the plate. "They don't believe in going halfway."Lilly nodded, taking her time on her own food as she watched the two, trying to get a good feel for them without being too obvious about it. She really did hope something would come of them though - it was nice to see Darren happy for once.

With a nod, Hafwen started on her own plate, taking her time to savour the chicken that tasted as good as it looked and smelled. She ate in silence, her attention focused mainly on the food as she mulled over the day's events at the back of her mind. Though she had left her dorm hoping to make Darren eat his words and regret agreeing to her challenge for something as silly as a first date, who would have known that he would need to go to the hospital with a concussion, leading right up to her meeting with Lilly and all three of them sitting down together to have dinner at a diner like this.
"Mmm... I'm stuffed." She set her cutlery down then picked up a napkin to wipe at her mouth. "This is really very good. Has anyone ever finished everything at one shot? This looks like it can feed two or even three."

Darren chuckled, "My dad could, but then, he burned a lot of calories just from working." He had decided that he was very much full, so he knew the rest would go into a box for later. He was feeling a bit better now of course, having eaten and gotten some soda in him. "I'm glad you liked it though," He said with a smile, glad he could share something with her this early on. "Well then," Lilly said with a smile. "I'll get the check and some boxes and we can see about dropping you back home Hafwen."

"I take it that he wasn't a very big man then? Lucky him..."
Hafwen set the napkin down on the table the moment she was done then fell silent when she realised that she might have been a little insensitive with the comment that she had just made. Shifting her gaze from Darren to Lilly, she allowed herself a smile eventually when it seemed that neither were going to take offence to what she had said.
"I mean... thank you for bringing me here even after all that had happened this afternoon." She admitted sheepishly, waiting for Lilly to be out of earshot before turning to look Darren over. "So um... how are you feeling so far? Ya think ya gonna be alright back home?"

Darren actually chuckled at her comment, she was right, neither of them would be offended because in truth, he had not been a very large guy. Besides, both had come to terms with his death in their own ways by this point, and it would take a lot more to dig up old wounds unless they were actively trying. He gave her a slow nod and a smile when she asked if he was feeling okay. "I should be alright, if nothing else I can harass you for a few hours over the phone if you're not too busy." He chuckles weakly, nodding his head. "Well we're good to go," Lilly said as she returned a few moments later with a few boxes to parcel up their food. "Shall we pack this up and get going?"

"That's fine with me. Don't think I've got anything else planned for tonight really though I'm not sure if I'm such a good conversationalist that I'll be able to keep you entertained for that long." Hafwen cautioned with a smile. It wasn't entirely true given that she had originally planned to work on an assignment that was due next week later in the evening, but she wasn't exactly in the right frame of mind for that or any studying for that matter after the day's events. Perhaps tomorrow then.
"Sure. I can help you with that if you'd like." She moved to pick up one of the boxes, flipping it open to begin packing the food from Darren's plate before reaching for another for her leftovers.

Darren was going to tell her that was fine, because it was probably going to be a dull night of him just rambling on about everything but he was prevented from commenting by the arrival of his mother. Not that this upset him much, he was starting to worry that he might be rambling too much. He stood slowly as Hafwen finished plating everything up, taking his time as he moved to ensure that he was okay and he wasn't about to experience any strange effects from the concussion. When all seemed fine, he slowly scooted his way out of the booth, moving slowly out of the way of the two females to let them finish up at the table, taking the food from his mother when it was handed to him. He then followed them all out of the establishment, not really commenting on much of anything as they walked.

Hafwen didn't mind his rambling really. It was at least more interesting than listening to her peers in school go on and on about their experience at the latest spa salon to hit the city and the trashy chart-topping pop songs that she could never really get into. Shutting the box the moment she was done with packing Darren's leftovers, she handed it to Lilly with a smile, watching his movement from the corner of her eye as she worked on packing her portion next.
It wasn't long till she was done and she grabbed a bag for the box before following Lilly's lead out of the diner with Darren in tow. "Thank you so much for letting me join you both for dinner today." She thanked the older woman the moment they were back by the car, smiling politely as she posed her request for the return journey. "If it's not too much of a trouble, could you drop me off back at the Crystal Academy dorm or any bus stop along the way please?"

"It wasn't anything really," Lilly smiled as they walked to the car, moving aside as Darren scooted a bit ahead of them and opened the doors for both of them. She gave him a gentle smile and nod before she hopped into the drivers seat and let them get situated in the back. "I'll drop you off at the Dorms." She said with a soft smile. "They still sticklers about curfew at Crystal?" Darren let the two females talk for the moment, he was somewhat absorbed in his own issues... he realized he was going to need to get in contact with Dallol somehow and let her know he wasn't going to be able to patrol that night, she was expecting him... he made a mental note to power up a little early and leave a note in their usual meetup spot... It was the best way for now.

"I'd appreciate that. Thanks Lilly."
She lifted a brow when she observed that Darren was still stubbornly playing the part of a gentleman by opening the car doors for them, tentatively resting her hand over his and looking him over with a concerned expression on her face to see if he was really alright. His sudden decision to go all quiet on them was a little unsettling taking into consideration how chatty he was before in addition to the fact that his condition wasn't entirely stable yet. She opted to hold her tongue on that however, thinking Lilly to be a better judge of what was the norm and what was not in his case.
She smiled wistfully at Lilly's question about the strict curfew that they had to adhere to at Crystal Academy, shrugging as she put in her two cents' worth on the matter. "As always. It's like they're afraid that us prim and proper girls will be up to all sorts of naughty business with our boyfriends if they don't have us back in our rooms and beneath the sheets nice and early before the clock strikes twelve."

Lilly laughed, "We sent Darren's older sister to Crystal, if any of her stories can be believed I doubt very much that curfew keeps the boys at bay," She winked at the two of them via the rear-view mirror, but didn't stress the issue too much. Darren flushed a little, then shifted his body slightly so he could lightly rest his head on her shoulder. His fingers gently tightened around her own and he felt a small shiver run through his body. The pain was gone for the most part, now it was just getting over the hump. "Thanks," He murmured to her quietly, just a whisper in her ear. "Sorry that I got so quiet, I was just thinking..."

"Oh?" Hafwen found that it was easier to ignore the wink and its associated implication that Lilly was trying to send their way through the rear-view mirror while driving when the teasing was more subtle like this. "I suppose that if one looks hard enough, there will always be ways to work around the rules in place yet achieve what they want. There is only so much that the rules and dorm mistress could do." That was about all that she was willing to comment on the matter without going further into the suspicious sounds that came from the room across from hers almost every Saturday afternoon when most of the girls were out at the mall.
She slid her gaze to Darren when she felt him rest his head on her shoulder, her cheeks flushing a little as she tilted her head so that it was rested lightly against his. "It's okie." She contemplated leaving him be to rest up some for the remainder of the journey. After all, they weren't any more than mere acquaintances at the moment which meant that she had no right to be poking her nose into his thoughts much lest business.
Curiosity won over logic eventually. "What were you thinking of..?"
