I use three finger, sometimes thumb...I never thought about it, but I don't think I have used just index, I only use one hand with those four fingers, but in a way I use them as support, depends on the song and the speed, I play heavy C400 most of the time, most of you probably do, with challenge.

I use my index fingers (both hands) its easier for me than using 1 hand.

I use my middle fingers instead of my indexes. The middle fingers balance the weight of your hand better, and they're stronger...
When things get unmanageable, I use my index and ring fingers.

i use my index for left, middle for up&down, ring for right, although i switch it up when doing multiple "jumps", when things get insane [see pics] i use both middle fingers these are steps i made for soldiers of the wasteland by dragonforce its 200BPM

Anyway... I use the one finger for each hand style.
Usually Index, but resort to my middle fingers when I have to... razz
