"Prize," she answered, still watching Seclusion. One ear was tilted towards the younger male, listening. "Your parents named you nothing, the Swamp gave you your calling. Always remember that, Waterfall."He was so young and eager, she couldn't even be annoyed she was suddenly playing babysitter. "Keep listening," she murmured back softly. "She retreated from her friends and family. She found a dark corner of the swamp and waited there, weeping. As they grew, she got weaker and she pleaded for the MotherFather to save her. Then the moment came..."Her voice lifted higher. "... they spilled out of her, children of the mongoose but hers as well. With long limbs and little horns and they looked up at her with eyes that were just like her own and struggled free of blood and membrane, pleading for her. The doe looked down at them and she loved them. They were hers."

Dive found his face pulling more and more into a grimace as the story continued. He could almost feel the discomfort in his belly as he couldn't help but imagine, quite vividly, the story the doe was telling.
When finally the mongoose children were born, he let out a soft sigh. He guessed that the story was over, that the terror was the doe's love for her half-mongoose children. He dipped his head down in a an appreciative bow. "That was a suitably grotesque story and you have a lovely voice."Ruriska I really hope that was the end; Dive will feel so bad if he interrupted her!

"It's not over," the doe snapped irritably. "She loved them and they loved her. They wandered the dark places and she fed them, but they were born of two worlds and could never belong. Six had been born to her and the Swamp wanted them all back. The first fell to the jaws of an alligator. The doe could not stop the vicious creature from clamping down or prevent her child from being dragged through the mud into the gloomy water."Her voice filled with sudden enthusiasm. "The second was swept up by an eagle. It's last shriek drifting down to its mother and siblings. The third and fourth were taken by the wolves. The pack rushed from the darkness, with bright eyes and ready teeth. Tearing and rending. The fifth died when they met her brother. He saw what had been made and he struck it down without thought, ending its brief life. The doe ran, her last baby by her side. They fled together far away until they could go no further and it was there, by the shore of the mighty water that they stood. The doe smiled at the sixth and led it into the waves... until they were both gone."Now Seclusion smiled. "The end."

Dive cringed, this time because he had interrupted her. He bowed his head, silent, but continued to listen, ear's pinned forwards. When the story was finally over, he struggled for a brief movement to dip into a low, full bodied bow.
"I apologize for interrupting. That was quite a chilling ending and you truly do have a wonderful voice." He smiled apologetically, hoping that she wouldn't hold it against him too much. "Thank you for telling this story."Ruriska Dive: Yeep! o__o Ahaha, he bounces back super quick, so it's not a problem. xD

He had a puzzled look on his face. "The swamp? Ah yes," he replied not wanting to argue that open desserts are not at all swamp like. In the swamp his feet will get dirty, in the open dessert, he stays mud free, and that's just how he likes it. Clean as a rock. "That's probably where you came from..." Again he smiled at her. "Well, Prize is a beautiful name." He thought to himself, if I ever join this tribe, she is mature enough to be my mother. I will have another talk with her later. He listened to the story as the plot thickens, and found himself a nice secure spot between Dive and Prize. He crouched low and plopped himself down on the ground keeping a close watch at Prize. You know, to make sure she won't leave his side until the story was over. When the story was finished, he was screaming inside. It was a horrendous story. So many deaths! Eyes wide, he looked at the storyteller in a 'is that a true story?!' sort of way and looked back at Prize with a 'mother, i am scared' face... His stomach churned. Waterfall wasn't sure if he was hungry or sick to his stomach. He tried to stand up and felt his legs had gone numb. "Oh dear..." Ruriska you pulled a great story out of your arse XD

"Oh, uh...r-r-r-really...I must be going!" Bite said faintly. A familiar feeling of foreboding had settled into the pit of his stomach. He knew what that meant: time to get outta here. The buck took off like a startled hare. Unfortunately, his chosen escape route only led him further into the festival and he barely stopped before crashing into the group of acha enjoying storytime. Frantically he latched onto the nearest one, who happened to be Waterfall. "Help me! Th-th-th-th-there's...there's...! " Ruriska sorry bite is a one-buck freight train. he doesn't mean to be. orz

There was a galloping sound coming toward them from the distance and Waterfall turned around in time to make himself roll his whole body out of the way before the thing would stomp all over him in its path. A kimeti came into view and was not looking so well.. He was standing too close to him! His eyes got as big as the frightened buck's and he spoke with a shaky voice. "HELP? you..? Well. what..what's there...?" he asked, but this time, his heart began to beat faster too. Quickly, his gaze scanned the buck from hoof to head, and forced himself to get up on all fours. The unease in his stomach got worse. He was afraid that looking behind the newcomer would let him see something he didn't want to see... Like... apparitions or something... Oh if only there was water nearby. I could use a long big gulp of that right now..

Skindeep watched the buck hurtle away and laughed softly, eyes dancing with mirth. Then she turned and went in search of Thunder. "You're welcome."She made a shrugging gesture, to show Dive's interruption had been no great deal and then rose. For the moment she seemed smugly pleased. Her audience, although small, had been suitable and now she didn't have to take part in any more of this nonsense. The doe stepped off her bone perch and prepared to leave; the frantic Kimeti that had arrived at the end of her tale only earning only the briefest of disinterested gazes. "Farewell and good night.""Mm," Prize said noncommittally, giving the younger buck a bland look. She was certainly not in the mood to discuss swamp naming theories. She didn't sit but she did stand beside Waterfall. "Charming," was her dry response to the tale, but she had to admit Seclusion had told it well and she inclined her head towards the younger doe, allowing her the freedom to move on. Someone else would take her place soon enough. Prize turned her head in time to see the look on Waterfall's face as he looked up at her and the sudden rush of motherly tenderness left her horrified. Thankfully she soon had something to distract her, in the form of a blundering Kimeti. She hadn't believed any of the troupe members would actually be scary enough to upset anyone but here this fellow was, about to fall on his face from terror. "What exactly is the problem?"] Tiarana he's pleased Skindeep immensely. xD

Dive was startled stiff by the sudden appearance of the terrified buck. Recovering quickly, he tried to stifle a laugh, but he still let out a slight snort; the event and its entertainers were obviously meeting the description of the night. He couldn't quite move towards the buck to comfort him, his legs not agile enough to allow him to maneuver between the other Acha next to him and the bone pile.
He did notice when the storytelling doe left her place on the pile of bones and left them. He spurred his crooked limbs into motion, backing away from the other kin before turning awkwardly before going after the feathered doe. He called out, in good cheer, "Must it be good night already?"
"At least, could I be given the pleasure of your name?"Ruriska Persistent this one... xD

Seclusion paused, looking back at the blue Acha. For her the night was done. Now she could rest and leave these games to other more willing players. Of course, that didn't mean she had to be alone and the buck was handsome enough... "You may join me, if you wish."She didn't bother to look coy or affect a flirty smile, she simply watched him. The offer was there, he could take it or not. Amorpheous Yes, she just propositioned him. Though now as I type this, I realize that might bring his rping to a bit of halt if he says yes. xD

He stopped briefly when she spoke, the sudden halt leaving his legs arranged strangely. Then he smiled widely though he still did not know her name. He returned to movement, approaching a little slower than he had followed.
When he reached her side, he did a short bow of his head, "If you're certain you don't mind."
He tempered his smile a tad, head tilting to the side cheerfully before he ventured to introduce himself. "My name is Breaking the Surface, but many simply call me Dive."Ruriska I don't think he minds. xD They can converse a little bit since Dive really does love her voice. And then I guess I'll bring in Sky-Like-Burning since I was planning on bringing him in anyhow. c:

She waited for him and as he came to her side, touched her nose to feathers hanging just behind his ear. They were lovely. "Seclusion," she answered. "I shall also call you Dive."The doe took a step froward, leading him into the grove. His handicap, that perhaps another would have taken notice of sooner, barely crossed her mind. He had a kind face and kind words, that was enough.

He closed his eyes briefly with the touch of her nose to his feathers. He smiled softly. Truly, he thought her voice would be lovely in song.
"Seclusion." He paused before saying, "A beautiful name for a beautiful doe."
He followed her, slower than those without his crooked legs, as she led her away from the crowd.

He saw his sister glow with pride at Watch Me's comment. Grin politely waited for his sister's reply before letting Watch Me know he didn't have much of any talent. Her reply didn't come though. Her attention was interrupted by the arrival of none other than his mother. His actual mother, Above Heartache. His sister greeted her in surprise, while Grin focused his attention on her. "Hello, Mother." He was surprised as well to see her, but not displeased.
