It's up to you if you want to use a reworked Rosemary and Louie or the new girl. I like what I saw on the application, but I also see why you'd want to reuse your previous characters. Regardless of what you pick, keep in mind that the new HQ (hotel front, members work part time) will make it very easy to bring people in without tackling the cliche "hi im new" garbage. You also have the opportunity to thoroughly integrate your character(s) with the cast, I noticed that was a problem last time; they felt more like recurring characters (Louie as comic relief, Rosemary as I don't know what) than part of the main cast. I'm not sure if it was because of the lack of character development or because their dynamics were too similar to those of other character couples, or a bit of both. Of course, we can help with that.

You nailed my dilemma perfectly! I could keep the Underhill Siblings and with the hotel format it would make it easier to integrate them into the cast just as you said. However, I really didn't get the chance to develop them at all. If I do decide to keep them I think I would drop the police work from Rosemary's life completely. Her status as an informant sounded a lot better in my head than in practice. As for Louie he's to goofy to be labeled as some kill-all bad a** vampire hunter. I like the idea of them being an elite assassin team but there is a lot that needs to be revised if I keep them. As for my new character, her development is still in the "looks" stage. I have a general idea of her personality and back story but haven't worked on it much.

I have a general idea of her personality and back story but haven't worked on it much. If I'm not mistaken, Rosemary's police work, entirely solo, took up a great deal of her 'screen time'. With some work, her old role can be saved. It helps that there's now a potential link (Sabe's courier role) where there wasn't before. At this stage though, backstory isn't super important unless you're going to make it very relevant to the plot. I'm not sure what to do about Louie, but I can spit out some suggestions all unrelated to each other. In the past there was a lot of talk about a drug war arc that might actually be brought in, he might have something to do with that. He might know a 'friend of a friend' or some other person that got him in that could pose some trouble should that relationship go south. He could just be a NEET riding in on Rosemary's coattails for all I care (it does pose problems of its own!). As for the the new character development: Getting a 'look' done and ready is trivial compared to everything else. Some like to derive personality and history from looks and others start with the history and personality then go for the looks. I don't do either of these though, so I'm not too helpful here.

I have a few minutes before I have to leave for work, and while I was getting ready I got to thinking about the hotel front. While Louie isn't the bad a** I originally wanted him to be removing that element from his personality leaves open the possibility for his "day job" to strictly be the hotel front. Assuming the front would be an upper class hotel (because what else would the mafia invest their money in), they would need Concierges to assist the rich with the different odd services they need such as babysitters or people to buy tickets to shows for them. Louie is a people person and is very well known around the clubs and theaters of Durem. He would be perfect as a low level Concierge or even a manager given he is a member of the Gang. It would also make it easier for Louie to keep his eyes on other informants besides his sister and whats going on with other gangs since his "day job" would require a lot of face and telephone time with other establishments. That completely solves my Louie problem and makes jumping into the revamped roleplay all that much easier. Regardless of plot he would always be there to assist if needed anyway. I originally intended Rosemary and Louie to be nothing more than pretty muscle and occasional comic relief (I'm naturally too much of a goof ball in real life NOT to have at least one goofy character though I don't show it here very often). I would like to keep Louie in that role but move Rosemary away from it a little so I can focus on other things with her. I forgot about Sabe's role as a courier, and Rose would come in handy for keeping the police out of their business on missions. You make a very good point (as usual 3nodding ) and if I where to rework it a little bit I could keep her as a police officer/informant. I need to sit and seriously think it over however, I don't want her "screen time" to be as ridiculous and cliche as it was before. I also need to think of a reason she would be living in the hotel. Possibly she could use the excuse that she wants to stay close to her brother since he is the last living member of their family. I also plan to use Louie more than Rosemary since her job is to pass information and cover up gang activity she wouldn't make many appearances anyway. Thanks for the inspiration Maerua! I wouldn't have come up with any of that if you hadn't made your suggestions. =3 As for the new girl, I think I'm going to put her on the back burner for now. I'm the type that starts with their personality and works from the looks backwards. I don't know why I started doing it that way. Maybe that's my problem and I should flip my process around. sweatdrop

You're back!! ^___^
So what should be our primary focus in rewriting our characters? Their new role in the gang, personality, or backstory?

(Note: I'm just Jay to everyone else here, you don't have to use my username. Was your name Casey or something, or did I confuse you with someone else?) Suggestions and other helpful things: No problem smile Louie as concierge: Excellent! and yes, the front is an upper class hotel. That kind of clientele tends to have a lot the Kuros are interested in. Rose: We never really established what the police forces of the different towns are like, and taking up a police officer role would mean pulling a triple shift (hotel, gang, police). So, I'm liking the informant role more, unless they're bundled together in a way I'm not seeing. Hotel living: Pretty much a non-issue, unless you're doing the police thing and they're questioning Rose's residency. All Black Ops members get to live on one floor of the hotel and can take advantage of the goodies so long as they also work part time. After all, it is their headquarters (but the mob needs its dosh too).

(excuse the double post) Nariana So what should be our primary focus in rewriting our characters? Their new role in the gang, personality, or backstory? Your primary focus should be on what you thought was lacking and wanted to improve; this could be one, any two, or all three. It'll be different for every character. If it does come down to all three and you don't know where to start, this is how I rank it (not specific to any character) : 1. History 2. Personality (should be derived from history) 3. Role (should be derived from personality and/or history) This is what I think I see in the thread (and this is also acceptable, no one true way of doing things) : 1. Role (easiest to grasp) 2. History (important, but is a tall task and requires setting details that are works-in-progress) 3. Personality (very simple, could be ignored until the roleplay)

Yeah my name is Casey. Sorry, the username thing is just habit. sweatdrop Rosemary's revision is still a work in progress. You pointed out something I didn't think of this morning. I don't think I want Rose part of the hotel set up. I don't think an informant would purposely stay with the gang they are secretly part of, that's just asking to have her cover blown. So, I'm scraping the idea of her living there. She can stay close by in an apartment or something. As far as the police goes, I can start small. I can discuss a few other officers and detectives without really going into what the police force is actually like. It wouldn't be hard. I already know I'll end up using Louie more so I can be a little lazy on Police details.

Rose's job: Oh, right; that flew over my head. sweatdrop Anyway, it all sounds fine with me. Police: This is supposed to be more general, but what you have planned will still be helpful and might even start that bit of worldbuilding. Anything else you're wondering about?

iKrAzYTurtle Now that I have a direction to take my lovely siblings in the only thing I'm wondering about it what else will be changed besides HQ. lol Most people are working on their characters right now. Setting-related stuff is up for suggestion. I mentioned some large changes to the floating island on page 2 but it isn't really central to anything yet. Do you have anything you've always wondered about setting-wise (this includes plot holes, inconsistencies, omitted details, etc) or want to see? If the current topics end up dying down, I have some more to bring up. They aren't changes so much as they are additions or clarifications.

I'll let you know if I can think of anything. I've begun rewriting Rosemary and Louie's profiles. (@Nari: Good luck and thanks for the welcome back! whee whee )

if I could input some suggestions...
I know there's an Item on Gaia called the Durem Knight, who basically seems like a spoof of Batman. and Edmund has donned a halloween costume that looked like Batman before and called himself "The Night" on Halloween.
this has led me to the idea of using Durem's gothic theme to imagine a police force similar to Gotham City's Police. I occaisioanlly consider the possibility of them wearing armour like the Barton Regulars, but still being more like a normal police force, though that's a little detail that I can take or leave.
but that's also not set in stone on Gaia's history anyway, so it's just an idea I have.

I like the Gotham City equivalent for Durem. The armor thing is more Barton's deal. Isle de Gambino would probably have private security instead of a public department. I'm at a loss about Aekea though. Maybe they just don't have one.
