Yi could feel himself blushing all the way to the tips of his fur hairs.
He swallowed as Carmen climbed into the wagon and settled himself. He went back and got the rest of his gear and helped his sister get into the wagon.
Akiko had explained the bird and how it came to be, and knew it would be fine in her sister's hands. If she could not buy the medicine for it, she would go and search for it.
He gently handed her the bird, settled it in her lap as it cried out a little.
"Akiko," he said warmly and with a slight smile, "Use as much medicine as you need for it."Akiko nodded and stroked the bird. Yi smiled and then turned and picked up Felix and placed him next to Carmen.Felix scrambled into Carmen's lap, ready for another nap. He would help Akiko if she wished, but right now he needed sleep since he had woken early to help Akiko. He snuggled into her soft fur and said, "I need a nap, but other than that, I'm good." He smiled and started to doze.Yi smiled, then looked over their makeshift camp. All was cleaned up, all were ready to leave. He waved to the Humes, signaling that they were ready to go. As the wagon lurched into motion, he jumped into the wagon.
He settled himself across from Carmen and sat back against the wagon board.
"I wouldn't mind if I got to know you better." he whispered to her, "But first as a friend for now." he smiled, "I may be an idiot, but I am a gentleman idiot. I won't do anything to make you uncomfortable." He looked at her hair and smiled. He liked her hair. "So just know, I won't mind sharing a blanket, but nothing more."
He looked out the back of the wagon and smiled a little. He had already decided to marry one day, and when he married, only then would he have a personal relationship with a female Kyresue. He wondered if he could share that with Carmen. Perhaps when she became less a stranger and more a friend.
"And perhaps," he thought as he watched the road pass beneath him, "Perhaps something more than a friend..."

Back in the wagon traveling again, Carmen relaxed. Her eyes sometimes looking at Akiko and her bird. Sometimes them watching Yi watch the road. Sometimes, she herself was watching the road. All the while petting a sleeping Felix who had her tail wrapped around him like a snug as a bug blanket.
She had considered what he said. She decided for time being; she should probably not comment on any of it. Getting married? Wasn't that a hume tradition? Then again, who was she to criticize when she was wearing little hume clothes whereas the normal Kyresue didn't.
She knew while living her life in Derya; many other kyresues had seen her and scoffed at her wearing such things. Here she was feeling herself scoff at the idea of doing something like 'getting married'. If a kyr wanted to lifemate to someone; didn't they just do that? She tried to think, but most of the kyresues she knew from Derya all belonged to a hume. They weren't slaves, but they were all mostly servants for the most part. None of them really sought out those kinds of relationships.
When the kyrs felt ready to get out from under a hume's thumb; they'd run away, stowaway on a ship, or commit a crime. She looked the two of them over again. Maybe they had a hume who had instilled such respect for hume traditions in them. After all, neither of them had scoffed at her one bit for wearing hume clothes. In fact, it had seemed to her that Yi liked them.
Looking at how peaceful Felix was sleeping, her foot brushed Yi's foot, and when she had gotten his attention, she pointed down at Felix in her tail. "I think at least someone likes being wrapped in my tail." She playfully stuck a tongue out at him. She smirked to herself a little bit. Her hands went back to petting Felix.
She just looked at Yi. Sharing a blanket, but nothing more. What was that? Whatever it was; she heard one word out of it. It sounded to her an awful lot like boring. Oh well... They had only just started their trip. It wasn't like she had asked for him to come with her as a boyfriend or anything like that.
If he was content to be a gentleman, then he wouldn't be too upset if she went out to socialize whenever they got into Taika.

Yi looked at Felix and envied the little bugger. He smiled slyly at Carmen as she stuck her tongue out at him.
"He's not the only one who likes your..." he looked down her body, traveling down, and following her tail as it wrapped around Felix, "...tail."
He flicked his tail across the wagon and brushed it against her feet. He moved it so it covered her feet so they were warm in the coolness of the morning.Felix, in an almost comatose state, snuggled under the fur blanket that Carmen had made for him.Akiko watched as the hurt bird came awake. She smiled at it, and place a finger into a bowl of water at her side, and dripped it into it's mouth.
"At lunch, I will dry some meat for your dinner, then ground it up for you to eat with your water." she said checking the rudimentary bandage on it. She saw all was well, but it would have to be changed at lunch.The Ka'eo felt relived with the water she fed her. It understood the stranger's speech. She knew what Kyresues were, but being in the wild since it's infancy, the Ka'eo had limited interactions with them. She felt no evil in the presence of these Kyresues, so she squawked a little squawk, and closed it's eyes into deep sleep again. The pain felt lessened than the previous night, so she rested, till she Yi smiled as he looked at his sister nurse the Ka'eo. He then smiled at Carmen whispering, "My sister should be a nurse, or priestess... But she wishes to be an archer." he shook his head, looked sadly at Akiko, and then continued to whisper, "There are times I wish she would not have been harmed by Ferren's evil."

Her eyes gleamed and flashed brilliantly when he gave her that sly smile. That's what she thought. Someone's shy; ain't he? She then grinned something crazy mischevious. She gave him a daring stare. "Talk is cheap, Yi." She gave him a quick wink before stroking Felix's ears.
When he mentioned Ferren's Evil, she looked at Akiko with a troubled expression. "So... how exactly did that happen? Is there an interesting story behind it? I'd love to hear it."
She meant it, but she decided to mess with him a little. Her feet moved up and down rubbing the inside of his ankles and gently stirring the part of his tail that covered her feet. She didn't look at him though, so she had an expression on her face as though she were observing Akiko with her bird and Felix in her lap.

Yi watched his feet as Carmen rubbed his ankles up and down. It felt rather soothing, but he wasn't about to tell her that.
He sighed and looked up at her watching her Akiko, and whispered not the whole thing, but just the basics of what happened.
"Akiko was hurt by one of Ferren's followers..." he looked at his tail and said lightly, "I barely got her out of the deep forest near where we lived. But it was not physical wounds she got, but emotional. She does not trust strange Kyresues... particularly male ones." He closed his eyes and leaned back, comforted by the feeling of Carmen's petting, he then looked back at her and whispered, "I hope for someone to make her love again and take her away from her pain. I hope she finds peace."
He then noticed he was rubbing Carmen's foot that was rubbing his. He liked it.

Carmen grinned to herself. She had felt that. If he wasn't offering aything up, who was she to press it out of him? At least for the time being, he was safe to keep his feelings to himself.
Her eyes had ticked over to watch Akiko and listen to this story. "Oh? Hmm.... Most intriguing."
Then, it was that a few days had passed in much the same manner every night till early midday they had been dropped off at a road crossing. The humes and their wagon was headed south. The little traveling party of fur all were left there to continue on eastward. After another four days, they had arrived in Taika. Only they had arrived a little too late. Most of the Halloween festivities were mostly over with mostly only food vendors still open.
