- Kierkess Renvald -

Kierkess stopped to think for a moment. "...Well, these were just brigands. Heads break like melons, no armor to speak of...but, ah, bones, you know..." User Image

Despite being a bit awkward with his words, Kierkess was taking the girl's relaxed recovery in stride. After all, in his mind, his mad antics a minute prior weren't anything strange because they were, of course, his own. "But you know, I haven't even seen a smith for this axe. Pretty good for a polearm I pilfered from some very rude dungeon masters, I should say!"

When Leena mentioned the Knight's Crest, though, the red knight became silent and adopted a thoughtful pose, indicated by his rubbing his chin with one hand whilst carelessly dangling his weapon with the other. He wondered briefly about how best to articulate how poor a name "Sparkles Jewelery" was considering its wares were arcane instruments of death. But then he thought of the Knight Crest and figured he should only make sarcastic quips after he'd procured a discount rate...after all, no Rausten knight ladder to climb anymore. To be honest, he'd never expected to had much success with that anyway given his, uh, notable service record.

Sadly, the prospective Paladin had no time to broker a deal as a disruption in the form of a great winged pigeon flew overhead. He cast his gaze upward and saw the glint of crimson droplets as they rained down to the ground. Either the considerably masculine rider had miraculously found paper to cut herself against up there or a fight was brewing. "Aha! I knew it'd pay off to sleep in my armor..." Looking quite pleased, Kierkess was about to dart off in the direction the pegasus was so effeminately fleeing from when he spared a thought for Julia's injury. "...Heehee, another point for heavy armor," he said with a grin, happily clanking off to where he'd moored Bedivere. And, of course, rudely leaving Leena behind.

For the most part even after the girl had taken her up on her pegasi, Kalilah hadn't said a word. Which was a little unusual for the nomad girl but at this point she was a exhausted to do so. The most Kalilah could do for the time being was report to Rath and see what happens next. She was in no condition to be doing anything else anymore. The swordmistress hadn't even noticed the fact that they had taken flight and was near the other group.

Few words were exchanged between the pegasus knight who had rescued her and..Rath. She jerked when suddenly spoken to but looped up at him, weary from her travel here. The look in Rath's eyes was almost too obvious, but she knew what he wanted to know.

Kalilah averted her gaze. "Chiefy--I mean..Chieftan Songhua has been injured. I..I don't know the source...but I know he was in great pain before I left! The rest of the tribe took him to safety. The chief told me to get help from..you and.." her words faded at the last part, not sure if she should continue. But that was all she knew or could remember.

Looking up, he could see the risen coming into view. "...They are upon us." He quickly turned to Wil. "Help her over to Leena's wagon." He glanced off to the multitude of others and raised his voice. "Everyone else, prepare to meet the enemy! Archers and mages, take aim and shrink their numbers, others form up in front and hold the line!"

Rath rushed over to his horse and mounted up. He prepared his bow and took aim towards the oncoming army. "Aim.... fire!"

Hector
Marquess Ostia

Hector, despite still being rather angry about the situation, understood the logic behind Rath's argument.

"Roy, if you need any help just call for me." With that he headed off to where this Leena person was.

He walked up to the woman in blue that Roy had pointed out to him, "Hello, Miss Leena is it? I am Marquess Hector of Ostia. Well I suppose most of what I said is no longer true seeing as I no longer have a country to rule. Roy told me that you could inform me about this world since I'm not from around here."

Wil frowned at Julia, there was no dishonour in the rear guard. Before he could say anything to her cold words she had walked off.

The sniper watched her leave confused at the intent her words when Marina's shout caused him to jump, as she ran past him. "She's very... energetic?" he said while watching her retreat.

He hadn't been waiting long before Ora came with his bow, "Thank you Ora." he said taking it, double checking it as the nomadic girl gave her report "You heard the shouting woman right? We're about to be in a battle soo---" Wil glanced over the horizion.

"Rath!" He said worriedly before realizing the nomad had seen it too, the sniper nodded at his friends orders. "Sure!" He said, "Take Ora with you Rath! Keep an eye on her for me!" He turned to Kaliliah, "Just a second!" he said before turning to Ora.

"Go with Rath, watch his back, and errr..." Wil remembered all those times Rath had ridden off without him in the middle of a battle and Wil had been forced to race after his horse or be left behind "Don't let him leave you behind. You'll be fine okay? I'll see you after the battle and we'll go over what you learned."

With a final smile at Ora he turned back to Kaliliah, "Okay, this way please!" he told her, leading the way to Leena's wagon.

"Amon, Ramla! On me, on the double! This is just one more obstacle that we have to overcome, even if the dead themselves are the ones who have come to challenge us! Today, we support our nomad comrades! Watch each others backs out there...We have some dark magic to contend with out there."

A sharp whistle brought Hana, who had been having the time of her life being able to relax for quite awhile beforehand, to his side. The old mare was more then willing to allow her master onto her, even if there was a small air of irritation at the sudden change. The poor girl was a reliable, not to mention fast, steed, but quite stubborn when she needed to. "This place is going to become a battlefield soon...I need you to stay with that wagon, and try to keep it out of trouble. Wait for me to call you, and we'll win the day yet."

Hana, no longer irritated over the whole situation, just continued to stare at her master before giving a sharp exhale, her sign of understanding his commands, before galloping off after the leaving wagon. "Alright...You two on me! Let's show them what this trio can really do!"

"There...It feels good as new. I thank you Sister."

Julia gave a inquisitive flex of her arm, testing out the depths of her dexterity with her recent healing. Much to her satisfaction, her arm stayed true to her wishes despite her recent injury.
"Excuse me...I think you have the wrong impression here. I'm not..I'm not a Sister. I was raised in a convent, yes, but I never actually ordained by the Father in charg-" Julia suddenly narrowed her eyes, taking a step towards the startled Cleric. "Did I ask for your life story? You did good work, take pride in that. If you are not a Sister, then I shall call you such as a fellow mercenary. You take up arms with me, then you are a Sister in my eyes. Live up to that expectation, and act with conviction." A sharp whistle called Calliope at her side, already prepared to depart into battle once more. "I will see you where there is honor, Sister."

To be honest, a large part of Rin didn't know how to react in that moment. What could you say to something like that? Some days, she wished that Blossom was there to snap her back into place, to tell her that it was okay after being locked up. But she wasn't, and that was a simple fact of the matter...She had her family here, but it was one where she had to stand just as tall as they. "In that case...There's no time for tears." She took up her staff, running as fast as her legs could carry her, the sensation of taking off in a bolt so foreign to her legs after some time. But it was a nice kind of burn, something that told her she was apart of something.

And it was definitely something grand.

The arrows and magic brought down fewer than desired. The risen also had the advantage of not being responsive to pain or normal human impairments. Some soldiers whose flesh had withered from the body utterly were not effected by a mere arrow.

The mighty breath of the dragon is what put a sizable dent in the undead army. However, they kept going, unstoppable, until they were finally upon the group. The dragon would find it difficult to unleash his power so close to his allies.

Undead soldiers, rotten flesh dangling from their bodies, others complete skeletons, thrust their spears at the Learanians. The risen archers stayed back and returned their own volleys. The Learanian soldiers, though capable, were not used to such enemies. They found themselves in need of support from the guild members very quickly.

The undead soldiers pushed forward, their aim obviously simple; the entire annihilation of the group. Likewise, the only way for victory to be achieved for the Learanians would be to put all the undead back to rest.

And the entire time Enailios was there. Between keeping an eye on his fellow partner and things he was staying fairly quiet. That was, till there were signs of the enemy coming forward. And it was definitely not the normal soldiers he had seen from his home.

Undead soldiers seemed to be the enemies, which was fine with Enailios. Flipping up his hammer, it seemed that it was clear what would have to go on. "Glad we have that dragon our side. Seems like Naga in a way." He mumbled to himself. That at least did some damage to the enemy lines as well.

Quickly turning his head, he noticed another blue haired man going on over to his business partner. "One thing is for sure - this is a new land. But perhaps, we can save the talking for another time." He said, His goal was clear in his mind: Help defend his partner as much as he could. It would hurt business after all if he lost Leena in the process.

"The hell are these things...?"

Roy couldn't help muttering. The skeleton warriors and the undead were one thing, but the humanoid fighters amongst them that were neither? They certainly weren't morphs, nor did they appear to be reanimated corpses. No, if they were all reanimated corpses, then the revenants and entombed (was that what they were called?) would be more numerous. Those types of undead didn't carry weapons anyway, nor did they seem to have the intelligence for it. These guys, though...

Even with the rain of arrows, magic, and Flametongue on the enemies, it wasn't enough to stop them. Light magic had proven effective, but there were simply not enough Bishops around to speed things up.

And now, despite the efforts of the long-range crew, the undead were upon them. Roy drew his blade with his right hand and parried a lance thrust with his shield before taking a step forward, swinging his blade horizontally across in an attempt to decapitate the enemy.

This was going to be a troublesome battle, he thought.

Marina twirled her lance wildly, the dual ends of her lance slicing through animate corpse after corpse. "Guys, this isn't working! Restructure! Formulate your efforts in a direct line, clear a path through them! The sooner we can surround them, instead of them surrounding us, the better! Come on!" But it made no difference. The more Risen she stabbed, skewered, and maimed, the more that rushed in to take their fallen ally's place. Marina needed a different plan.

"Outta my way!" she yelled as she dashed through her allies. They were growing surrounded, but she could see an opening over the heads of several rows of Risen. She needed a way to get through them to that opening, so she could clear one of her own for the team. There was a large man in heavy armor just ahead of her, and she got an idea.

"Right behind you!"

She ran towards him and leapt up, using his backplate to propel herself up and forward over the crowd with significant distance! As she came down upon the horde of Risen, she angled her lance to pierce any unlucky undead that happened to be underneath her when she landed, and she landed and crouched close to the ground to absorb the shock of her fall. As the monsters closed in on her, cutting her off, she yelled fiercely, and swung her lance in a large circle to clear the area around her. The lance ends glowed with their innate magic, casting the spell within, and a sudden blizzard struck the area directly around her, immediately freezing many Risen on contact. The head of the lance continued, shattering any that happened to be in its path. They now had a clear opening, and she could only hope the others were smart enough to follow her.

Wait wait wait. She comes all this way over just to be put on the back for support! No! Weak as she may be, she can still put up a decent fight! After all, Kalilah wasn't on Songhua's personal guard for nothing!

What was this person's name? Wil? She frowned and shook her head. "Hey, no! I can help even a little! I won't get in the way! Promise! I'm did not come all this way and sit around like some dead meat!" Before anybody else could say anything more, Kalilah dashed past the archer/sniper and towards the pegasus knight that saved her. Without any indication, she hopped up behind the girl before she could even take off.

What, did you really think she'd be stupid enough to run out to the front lines? No no, that was suicide waiting to happen! The least she can do in her condition was back someone up and it might as well be Ms. Pegasus knight! "You! You said your name was Julia, right? I can keep you alert for any archers near by. After all, it is a pain for fliers, is it not?"

Kalilah wasn't going to take no for an answer, she's already propped herself on the back of the poor pegasi anyways so even if she was thrown off, the swordmistress would hop right back up.

Julia

She wasn't sure how to respond to the swordmaster that had just up and taken a spot on Calliope's back, least of how her partner was simply okay with the fact. (Though to be fair, she had already been allowed by Julia before, why not now?) She had already opened her mouth to protest, mostly from conditioning. How many times had someone decided to just make their merry way and try to take a seat on Calliope? Riding wasn't something that came natural for most people, especially with how picky Pegasi could be regardless. (To be honest, she was still trying to get the image of the last man who tried to take a ride from her head.)

"Are you-"

She stopped mid-sentence, registering who it had been, before taking a moment to stop Calliope mid-trot. The look in her eye was definitely one who wasn't going to take her refusal standing, and neutralizing her was going to be a bit troublesome. "...Well, that would at the very least be a relief. Besides, you're a nomad, are you not? There are few who could match my sisters in riding, and they would be among your people..." It wasn't much of an announcement to her guest, more so an argument made between herself. She took a moment to ponder the situation, suddenly thrusting a concoction into her hands.

"Hold on tightly, and if anything were to happen to me or to Calliope, take this and make your way from the battlefield. You have someone to meet again, don't you?"

And with that, she had nothing else to say as Calliope once more took to a sprint, eventually taking off to the skies.

Fire Dragon

User ImageHordes of undead attacking Learanians around the border of or within Adliana. Why does that sound familiar…

Participants of the Spring Mini-Event, the Siege on Eyris, and that time FEF crossed the border illegally into Sentria on a rescue mission might recall that FD is awesome at taking out huge numbers of enemies at one time in wide open battles with tremendous enemy numbers. Or super gigantic creatures like a Draco Zombie and a magical exploding Cerberus. It’s where he particularly shines (and I’m totally expecting a Draco Zombie to appear in this thread by the next page, so… that should be fun). When the call to battle was made FD made certain to be at the very forefront for the sake of being as effective as possible and keeping his allies from getting in his way.

And as soon as the archers and mages made their initial cohesive volley against the undead army, the Fire Dragon went to it. It occurred to him that a number of new companions had joined their fold since FD had last transformed in the presence of this group; seems FD would have a justifiable reason to introduce himself to Hector sooner rather than later after all. The dragon went forward enough to have sufficient space and transformed into his natural colossal form and unleashed his Flametongue at the oncoming undead army. It was very effective at taking out numerous enemies at once, but there were indeed so many enemies it would still be a very long battle.

Soon enough the undead had reached the group and it was no longer safe for his own companions for the dragon to fire off Flametongues in their vicinity. The Fire Dragon launched into the air for better opportunities and flew closer to the rear of their oncoming opponents, razing open paths along the way with his destructive breath.
