" I'm afraid I burned this batch. Shouldn't take more than ten minutes, though." After slipping his glasses back on he turned around to face the sink and hastily scrubbed the pan clean before setting it on the stove top. " Feel free to change the channel. I'm sure you'd want to watch a morning cartoon rather than the news." he said over his shoulder while adding fresh strips of bacon to the heating pan.  Daniel BerryEllery already had the remote in hand, sitting at the table with Daniel in his arms. " Speaking of, did you hear? There was another murder committed by The Surgeon," said the brunette, flipping through the channels. " What's The Surgeon?" asked Daniel, his hands toying with one of Ellery's. In this world, one cannot say anything without proof to back them up.Fredrich winced when he heard Ellery, but straightened up and continued with his cooking. Somehow he wasn't surprised Daniel knew Decius, especially since he was left with Cameron for a good chunk of the day yesterday. What did surprise him was the title the child gave the doctor. " You like Dr. Decius, do you?" the detective chuckled to Daniel while setting two plates filled with eggs, bacon, and toast on the table. " It's better than being one of his test subjects. Much better than meeting The Surgeon." he sighed the last part and stood near Ellery to see the TV. " It's getting closer to the school." he murmured under his breath. Daniel Berry" I love him! He's getting me a bird!" gushed the child, excitedly stuffing his face with the food. Ellery wasn't focusing on their son, though. He was staring at the screen, the academy just a bit out of the picture of the victim's home. " And closer to..." He looked down at the boy, subconsciously tightening his hold on him. " Fredrich, what are we going to do? The Surgeon has attacked children before, what if he tries to-" He couldn't finish, frightened eyes going back to the detective. He didn't like the sound of that, ordinary things didn't exist with that doctor... The detective turned his head when he heard Ellery, he gave him a soft look. " Nothing will happen to him, I promise you." he assured. " I'll call Cameron to look over you two while I can't. He's not right in the mind, but if anyone can protect someone from a killer, it's him." Daniel BerryEllery reached out, his hand on Fredrich's arm. " When I'm on tour next week, I want you to keep him with you at all times, Fredrich. Daniel is priority one!" His eyes were still wide with terror at the thought of coming home to find that Daniel was gone. He released the detective, his hand now on Daniel's head and stroking his hair. " We may not be a couple, but we're still his parents. Daniel is our son, and he comes first in our lives.
