Rilli - Varkus's stall
Marks: 5

"Mother of Faranth!" Rilli exclaimed upon getting a good look at the man rather than his companions. And she'd thought her eyes were uncommon!

"Haha! I wish I could talk Risk int'lettin me have one. Hard enough to get on his back. Rillsk was more cooperative but what can you do." She shrugged, not minding much the fact that Varkus probably had no idea who Risk or Rillsk were. "I'm definitely interested! Risk is a big boy mind you an' I don't need nothing fancy for him. I like those straps though." She pointed at the ones intended for transport. "We're from Malvren after all an it would make it a bit easier to get the brute here and back."

Sasar
Marks: 5
- 1/2

Sasar quirked an eyebrow at Peya but returned her interest with a small smile of his own. She was older, noted by the lightening of her hair, but that didn't bother him much. He flexed his hands again, the metal biting firmly into his fingers. What he would have given to have these back at Trine!

He lowered his voice, matching her subtle purr with a rumble of his own. "The pair then, an extraordinary price for such quality work." He slipped the one from his right hand and held it out to shake on the deal. "If you're in Benden often, my name is Sasar."

Ja'kki - Snake Smashers!
Marks: 4 7/8th

The grin on Ja'kki's face couldn't possibly get any broader. That had been fun! Too bad she hadn't got all 15. The urge to try again was strong, but she could wait and see if someone beat her score first. As of this moment, she was the best.

Ja'kki preened with pride under the woman's excitement to meet her. "Ja'kki of Green Emerath. I'd be glad to sign something for your brother! " She accepted the small pit of paper and writing stick and leaned carefully on the tunnel contraption, scribbling her name and Emerath's and adding a small heart for good measure. "Here's for your brother~" She gave the handler a coy look and feeling bold, leaned forward and slipped the woman a quick kiss as well. "You can give that to him too, or keep it for yourself. " She winked.

"I'll stop by later to check in~"

Dinah - Vakus' Stall
1/2 mark

"They'll come to regret it sooner or later, I'll see to it myself," Dinah said, meaning every word. They'd pay for locking her life in that cage. Despite the grim words, however, she smiled and hefted the armor and her chosen boots. "Many thanks, sir. I'll think of you next I'm kickin' in heads."

The greenhandler flashed another savage grin and set off with her purchases.

Kr'stof - Smasher game
5 marks
[Edited - didn't see Dizzy's reply!]

He'd admit it - Kr'stof had become quieter since the revolution. He'd not been prepare for the bloodshed and the end result. The oppressors needed to die, yes, he had no regrets for the act of killing. The aftermath, the loss of people he knew and loved, that's what hit him harder than anything. It brought the Bolts down, whether he wanted to say that or not.

So when he saw Ja'kki kicking some serious a** at a game that involved hitting... things, Kr'stof wasted little time swinging around to her position. One sllim hand pushed gently at her shoulder, Kr'stof grinning wide at her and the person running the splat game.

"She is, aren't you, precious? Ja'kki here is the best shaffing rider those wonderful Bolts have. Oh, I'm interrupting a moment, goodness. May I have your autograph, darling?" Kr'stof beamed at his teammate, pleased as punch to be able to say something other than 'oh, have you recovered from killing people yet?' That seemed tacky. And here he was, crashing a kiss of all things. For shame, Ja'kki, for utter shame. "What are you doing, punching these poor tunnelsnakes? I bet you're imagining S'lar, aren't you? It's been a turn and the precious boy hasn't learned to iron his own socks yet. And kissing poor unprepared young ladies."

The state of S'lar's socks didn't matter. Kr'stof just wanted to talk.

Vakus

Vakus grinned at Rilli, widened his eyes and waggled his eyebrows. "Well, you can only work with what you've got," he said, be didn't know who the 'sks were but he could hazard enough of a guess. "For a simple saddle with safety straps... I can do you one for a mark and three quarters, just make sure you spread the word of where you got it! You can bring in your Risk for me to measure day after tomorrow, Benden or Malvren makes no difference to me. When I start work I'll ask the three quarter as a deposit, have your saddle done in two sevendays, and the rest will be payable on your satisfaction. Sound alright?" It was a damn good deal but he was in a festive mood, and he did rather like making wher saddles in any case.

To Dinah Vakus offered a grin and a salute. "Good speed then handler, and good luck!"

Peya

Peya raised an eyebrow right back at Sasar and smirked, reaching out to clasp his hand in a firm but far from crushing grip. "Well Sasar, I'll have to see to it that I'm around Benden more often in future, won't I?"

Snake smashers!

"Ooooh, thank you!" the small stall keeper bounced on the balls of her feet as Ja'kki signed the paper, still grinning fit to burst. "He'll think turn's end has come early- Oh!! Hello! Oh, you're one of them too aren't you? Err, Kr'stof? I can never remember which way around your names are, I'm so sorry, but would you sign this for my little brother? He's a huge fan, and having autographs from two of you would just blow his mind!"

Ja'kki - Kr'stof!!!

Flirtatious feelings evaporated immediately upon the hand touching her shoulder. The short rider whirled around, about to kick the a** of whoever dared touch her uninvited, and instead made a noise of delight upon seeing Kr'stof. It was a test of her minimal amount of restraint not to throw her arms about him immediately. She contented herself with touching his hand for now, though she did instinctively lean towards him.

She wrinkled her nose and grinned at him, the expression reaching her eyes. Oh , killing people hadn't weighed as heavily on her mind as the loss of L'roh and V'i. Especially V'i. Ja'kki would gladly kill again even if it wouldn't bring them back, an emotion she had worked out a bit on the poor beanbags behind her. "Kr'stof what do you need an autograph for? You could make a fortune selling my undergarments if you found the right buyer!" She snorted.

"If any part of S'lar needs a hot iron it's not his socks!" Ja'kki retorted with a giggle. The unflappable member of their team could use a good poke now and them. He was far too calm for Ja'kki's tastes for all that she still loved him as a friend. As for the kiss, well it was Ja'kki's own business where she put her mouth now wasn't it?

"Your turn!" She smirked and pushed him towards the stall keeper.

Kesin - Vakus' Stall
5 marks

Kesin had put on some of her best clothes for the gather - not a dress, as she wouldn't want to be thought frivolous, but high-quality black breeches and bodice, fine white shirt, and a bright blue sash around her waist. More importantly, however, her beautiful Kesisk was by her side. The pale gold stalked calmly along with her, alert but unbothered by the crowd, though the disorder of it was vaguely irritating, all the aimless milling about here and there. If she could just get them t-

No, baby, you can't herd the nice folks. This way, Kesi~

To see that fine saddle on display, and the rather interesting man displaying it. "What an exquisite piece," she purred. "It just so happens I've been meaning to get a saddle for my girl, but I've had trouble finding the quality she deserves. What price for your finest work, Mastercrafter?"

Oh, she'd seen his knots, but pretended to have overlooked them in favor of flattery.

Kr'stof - Ja'kki - Tunnelsnake smash!
4 7/8 marks

He tensed up slightly when she spun though that smile didn't fade even a bit. Yes, Kr'stof spent much too time away from the Bolts - especially if Ja'kki grinned like that at just seeing him. She touched his hand and leaned and Kr'stof patted her shoulder gently then. "That's true, I honestly could. I'm sure we'd not have a hard time finding a buyer at the gather. Ah - and yes, yes, that's me!"

A bright smile leveled itself at the stall keeper. It didn't help that Ja'kki shoved him towards the small woman. He snickered and kissed his fingertips before tapping the tip of the keepers nose. "There - a kiss from both Bolts present. An an autograph, ah, yes--" A quick dash of his hand and a swirling swoop of his signature later, Kr'stof gave the woman an autograph and an eighth mark. "Let's see how I compare to lovely Ja'kki."

Kr'stof snagged the tool in question, his thin fingers flexing. Ugh, and he was never any good at this. Still - he swung, aiming for the deadly deadly sock snakes. ... and he failed miserably. Kr'stof groaned. "Oh, shaff me."

V’ell – Wandering
1/4 mark

The knuckles went into a black leather box lined in shiny red fabric – a beautiful container for a beautiful piece of craftsmanship – yes, V’ell could appreciate aesthetics just as much as the next lady, thank you. With a smile and a nod, she accepted the box and tucked it into her belt pouch. “Thank you. I’ll definitely keep you in mind.”

Then, with that bit of business concluded, she wandered off in search of the lady-love in question. She still had a quarter-mark – that was enough for a cup of wine or maybe one of those delicious-smelling pastries. Well, she’d see where the evening took her.

Ellanfer - Vakus’ Stall
5 marks

Ellansk had insisted on going. It was not an option for him to stay behind… and frankly, Ellanfer wanted him there with her. Benden was Benden, not the Hold where she’d grown up, and the Gather would be full of Wherholders and plenty of alcohol flowing freely. Ellanfer had enough trust issues as it was; she simply felt safer with the hefty bulk of Ellansk at her back.

Right now the brown was more or less leading the way while she kept a hand comfortably resting on his neck. He peered curiously at each stall in turn through the shaded-glass lenses which kept his eyes comfortable; they’d been a dear expense for her, but worth every penny. The saddle, though…. Well, it obviously needed replacing. Ellanfer had opted for the wher goggles rather than a new saddle the last time she had the opportunity to make such a purchase, and after a great deal of hard riding the leather was battered and scuffed.

Likewise, her Gather best had seen better days. Ellanfer was sporting dark brown breeches and a cream-colored linen shirt, with a scarf of lightweight teal fabric draped loosely around her neck and shoulders. While all were impeccably clean, it wasn’t exactly an expensive ensemble.

Smiths! Ellansk called, suddenly pulling left towards the Mastersmith’s booth. But Ellanfer reined him in with a touch and a low voice in his ear. “I don’t think the Mastersmith would take kindly to you inspecting her work, big guy. Come on, let’s go see what the crowd over here is about…” Oh. It was other wherhandlers, inspecting a beautiful intricate wher saddle that Ellanfer knew she wouldn’t be able to afford. Standing next to an elegant goldhandler, Ellanfer suddenly felt acutely self-conscious… but she’d wait around long enough to hear the price the leatherworker quoted. “It’s excellent craftsmanship. And the straps – are those for traveling by dragon?”

Ellansk, on the other hand, would not be cowed. Inclining his head to Kesisk, he rumbled a low crooning greeting. Afternoon, pretty lady.

Snake splat

The young stall keeper positively squeed - whether she had been lying about not being sure about which way around their names were or just didn't care wasn't exactly clear but whatever the case she was obviously very happy with Kr'stof's attention.

Her wher snorted and a whirl of sardonically amused bright blue ran around his calm dark blue eyes.

"You are both literally the best!" the game mistress exclaimed. Then, when Kr'stof failed rather miserably, she gave a sympathetic girlish giggle that rather failed to match the look her eyepatch gave her. "Sorry, did I distract you? You can play again!"

Vakus

Ahh, a new customer! Vakus smiled in greeting to Kesin but grinned at the flattery. "You were one of the ones in one some of the last missions weren't you?" he said in lieu of greeting. "For one of our hereos I can do a special price, a mark and a half for the most basic saddle I offer, up to two and a half for top of the line. For the higher price I can do you any colour of leather and emboss just about any design, or have embroidery done for you, studs, whatever your heart should desire." With all the work involved it cut his profit down to near nil but Vakus was nothing if not a patriot and would happily swallow it for somebody he knew had fought against Trine for them.

Ellanfer's arrival gleaned another grin and a nod from the leather worker. "Hello, welcome! Yes, you're right there handler - they'll keep you in the saddle whether you're being carried aloft or running over rough ground and weaving in and out of obstacles. A must in my opinion, and there's a quick release mechanism should you not have time to unclip the buckles normally."

Serdek - Vakus's Stall
5 1/2 marks

Yes. All right. Brass knuckles, and a knife priced. Four and a half marks to spend - should be right about enough for a good piece of leatherwork. Which meant it was time to hit up Vakus' increasingly-crowded stall before everything was sold. The brass knuckles sitting heavy and comforting in her pocket next to Sersk's measurements, Serdek moved in the direction of the leatherworker, but arrived just in time to realize that it might very well end up panning out just like she had dreaded. Poor Vakus - or rather, quite the opposite of poor, she supposed - was mobbed, and Serdek was worried she'd already missed her chance to order.

"Pardon," she said quickly, stepping up next to Ellanfer and giving the woman a brief grimace of what might have been apology, "Am I too late to put in an order for a saddle?"

Toska - Killian's Stall
4 3/4 marks

"Thank you for not being short with her. She's learning, and...she's more or less harmless. At least, I think she is. She likes getting into things - no you don't-" She reached out just in time to catch Tosk around the neck before the wherling could begin a climb into Killian's stall. "The vintner doesn't want company right now, dear," she said quickly, in a brisk undertone, and Tosk calmed somewhat.

She calmed even further when Killian provided a dish of water, warbling positive delight as she lowered her head to sniff at it. Tosk's, thank wine-lady, she said, quite insistently, and Toska swatted gently at the wher's neck.

"You can say thank you yourself," she admonished, and Tosk blinked, glancing up at Killian.

Thank you. A little singsongy, clearly parroting Toska's voice, but nonetheless as sincere as the exuberant wherling could be. At the offer of spices, though, Tosk snorted. No, she said plainly, and then when Toska nudged her with an elbow a little harder than was probably necessary, she snorted again and rested her muzzle on the counter once more. Thank you, she added, tone clearly implying that she wasn't entirely sure what the words meant, but she was determined not to have Toska elbow her again.

Toska, for her part, smiled at Killian. "Thanks for putting up with her," she said. "You've been incredibly patient - here!" And she fished another eighth-mark piece out of her belt-pouch and handed it over. "For your trouble."

D'ei - Sr. Journeyman Leatherworker Vakus
4 7/8 marks

The lady-love in question had a mug with a snazzy saying on it and looking out for a proper gift herself. People were in the way of properly keeping an eye out so she did the only thing she could: push them out of her way and look as she did so. Plenty of tall, slim women walked in an out of her path but not the correct ones. Regardless of no V'ell yet, D'ei ended up standing in front of the Leatherworkers stalls.

In particular, she stood in front of those knee boots. Those knee boots and whip, even. Greed shimmered in those dark eyes on her otherwise stoic face. V'ell would look downright badass with those, and.... well, D'ei didn't much know if she could use a whip. The greenrider was a clever woman. She had no doubt she could figure something out. Another woman - tall, bald, but not hers - asked for a saddle and D'ei waited for a heartbeat before asking her own question.

"Sir," D'ei gestured at Varkus, glancing up to him. Mobbed or not, she wanted to know the price. "How much for a whip an the boots?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 10, 2013 6:06 pm

Vakus

"Not at all!" Vakus replied with a smile to Serdek, gently fending off a brown firelizard who had been trying to land on his head. "I'm taking orders all night," he continued, "the one I have here is merely for display purposes. What sort of thing are you looking for, handler?" He assumed she was a handler given she wanted a saddle but he supposed he could be wrong. Still, if he was so far as he was concerned he was paying a compliment... one of these days, when he had time, he really would have to try out for a wher apprenticeship. If he could get a blue or a brown it would be perfect, but any colour would do him just fine in the end.

Vakus was very glad he had his five firelizards keeping an eye out for him; they alerted him to his new customer and he turned to D'ei as soon as it was polite to do so. "Good gather to you! The whip and the boots are both one and a half marks as it happens so that's three marks total if you want a pair and a whip!"

Killian

"Everyone has to learn sometime; I have four younger sisters and two younger brothers so I have plenty of experience," Killian replied with a tolerant smile.

"You're welcome," this was directed at the gold wher, "and you are too," this was for Toska. The vinter smiled warmly, accepting the proffered money with an incline of that pretty blonde head. "You're too kind, and kindness should repay itself! Here." Killian flourished the mulled wine ladle and topped up Toska's cup.

D'ei - HITTIN UP VARKUS
4 7/8 marks

Three marks. For the quality of the goods, the goods came at a good price. D'ei, for all her socialization with the general public, rather sucked at it. Still... People haggled at Gathers, didn't they? That's what they did. D'ei could haggle! She could totally be all... charismatic and the like. She nodded an looked back to the goods, charming creature she was.

"It's fine work," she said absently, wavering on her indecision on whether or not to actually attempt to charm for a discount or however it is people did. "It's for my weyrmate. She's not tried a whip before, from what I remember. For a bit of help on beginners luck, maybe a bit off the price?"

Right. Haggling.

Er, no. good try, D'ei. Good try.

Kesin - Vakus' Stall
5 2 1/2 marks

"We were, indeed," Kesin was happy to confirm, though she preferred to leave out that she'd also been captured, thanks to some shaffing idiot who hadn't set their charges right. Leave it to a rider to botch their plan! "My Kesisk and I have been through a lot together, haven't we girl? Even got the better of a bronze and his rider once, when she was still just a little thing."

The goldhandler wasn't one to miss an opportunity to brag, especially when it seemed to be getting her a good price. "The higher price it is, then," she said, quite pleased with herself. "Black, of course, with whatever designs or embellishment you think would best complement her. I trust you completely."

Giving him his artistic freedom would, hopefully, further encourage him to do his very best. Ah, but what was this? Another handler, with a fine-looking brown companion. As the handler of a gold wher, she often looked over the bronzes and browns with a critical eye. "He's a handsome one, isn't he?"

Kesisk returned the greeting with a wordless one, acceptance of his presence and pleasure that he recognized her as pretty. She shuffled her crooked wings, eyes a contented blue beneath her goggles, and thrust her muzzle at him in a nudge.

Serdek - Vakus' Stall
5 1/2 marks

"Wonderful. Thank you, sir!" Serdek's expression for just a moment was genuinely pleased, and she paused to watch D'ei converse with Vakus. ...Well, at least Serdek wasn't the only one who made a fool of herself when she tried to haggle. D'ei got a brief, sympathetic smile. "Smooth-talking's hard," she said to the brownrider in an undertone, having not yet caught sight of her dragonrider's knots. Finally, a kindred spirit who wasn't just getting things handed to her.

And then she turned to Vakus, all business once again. "I don't know entirely what I'm looking for, but I want...something good. Serviceable. It doesn't need to be as pretty as this -" and she paused to gesture at the beautifully ornate saddle the man had on display, "and by rights, I'd probably ruin that altogether too quick. But the one I got from my brown's last owner is on the outs, and I want another one that'll hold up a good few turns." She paused, glancing at what he had reported were straps for flight. "How necessary do you really think those are?" she asked, plucking at one. "I don't...do a lot of flying."

Understatement of the year.
