Chaser sneered a bit as Thunderbird took it upon himself to point out that he was fairly new to patrols - it was true. Not only was Stormchaser a young stallion, but him and his brother, Derecho, seemed to be kind of the 'runts' of the litter. Chaser, however, seemed to grow out of it as he got older, but still had a lot to prove compared to his other siblings.
But when Falling Rock came to his defense, he felt the skin of his ears burn a bit in embarrassment at the compliment. He cleared his throat and stepped forward. "Well, he try to keep busy with patrols, foraging, and stuff...but of course anything we can do to improve our flying skills. Flying to the icy peaks is a fun challenge. There's also racing and stuff...."

"Well, I shall keep your vote of confidence in mind." Thunderbird smiled ruefully, "... even if it might be a bit biased." He chuckled.
...Finding mares to sweeten up to... Thunderbird thought to himself as he eyed the two. He wondered if the way Stormchaser was acting was as obvious to Falling Rock as it was to him... or if Storm realized what he was doing.
"I love weather like this." Thunderbird added, "It is exhilirating, flying in the high winds, keeping an eye out for lightning strikes..." He one-upped his brother.
With all of these siblings trying to best each other and suggesting dangerous things that Fall was bound to like, Flint was beginning to worry once again. He winced at the mention of lightning, picturing Fall's face of excitement. "Racing sounds like a good idea, right Fall?" he peeped cautiously into her ear, hoping to sway her decision for the safer side of things.
But Falling Rock was not listening. She had been born into danger and chaos, so she was naturally drawn to it. Icy peaks? Lightning strikes? This place was even more exciting than she had originally thought it to be. Which to do first?
"Let's race to the icy peaks, and the winner gets to take a crack at the lightning first!" she said, deciding to cram all of the fun suggestions into one big, adrenaline fueled activity and grinning back and forth between the brothers. She flipped her mane and unfurled her wings, ready to go already. "You're not afraid are you?" she asked, giving them her own challenge and one-upping both of them in her own playful way.

Chaser fluffed his wings. "Of course you love weather like this," he said with an eyeroll. He was an Angeni after all, and unlike most second generation Soquili he seemed to have the powers associate with them. His mother had once told her that she believed he was not actually of her flesh and blood like he was, but a beautiful gift given to their family by the spirits to guide them. His father on the other hand was just convinced their child had been blessed.
Either way, he was just as comfortable in a lightning storm as the raindrops.
But Falling Rock's voice seemed to jerk him out of his mental assertions. "Huh?" he said ineloquently. "Oh, of course not!" he tried to recover quickly, unfurling his wings in readiness. "This is nothing'" he boasted, acting as if he did this all the time. "Go!" he called, though he waiting for her to lift off before following.
Thunderbird was surprised at the mare's gusto. Especially for an outsider, she had courage. Maybe she was a better match for this herd than he had even first surmised.
But as much as this sounded like probably not the BEST Of ideas, the challenge boiled in Thunderbird's blood. He had every confidence in his own abilities, he just hoped that Rock's own confidence was not ill placed.
His four wings snapped open and raised in preparation as the race was ramping up. He could show the two a good time - just not let it get... TOO much to their heads. And hell, if something happened... he could bail them out. Of course he could.
Not even paying attention to the fact that Stormchaser was holding back, he vaulted off the ground at the sound of "GO", taking off into the skies.

Nothing else mattered at the moment but flying as hard and as fast as she could, faster than she ever had before. She could hear Flint's tiny gasp as she took off the moment she heard the word go, running quickly along the ground and first and then soaring into the dark, rainy sky. The storm seemed to have taken her challenge even more seriously than the stallions had, and she heard a clap of thunder that urged her forward. The wind whipped her mane around in all directions, but she had little concern for being attractive at the moment. She carefully adjusted her feathers to the cold, rushing air, trying to keep the snow capped mountains in view ahead of her.
1: Falling Rock nearly misses some lightning, falling behind the boys slightly, scaring the $#!@ out of Flint in the process. xD 2: Falling Rock navigates through the downpour of rain and keeps up with the boys.
Chaser took off after Falling Rock, fulling intending to let her win; but the storm was picking up pace, and he had more experience than most Wind soquili with navigating through the rain and the wind. His feathered wings caught in a updraft gust and he soared high and fast; nearly keeping up with his brother. Thunderbird made it look effortless of course, but Chaser was holding his own.
A large crack of lightning bathed the whole landscape in a flutter of bright, brilliant light, and he left his mane stand up on end. Looking behind him, he saw Falling Rock bank suddenly. She wasn't hit, but for a split-second there it felt as though an icey hand had taken grip on his heart. He shifted his weight in the air, doing a large loop to double back to wear she was, just to make sure she was okay.

Before he even realized it, Thunderbird was off, seeming to race the lightning itself. He also had been intending on hanging back a bit, let his little brother feel like he had a chance, but whenever the wind was in his wings - and especially during raging storms like this one, something just came alive in his blood and set him catapulting forward. The rain hardly seemed to hit the stallion, and no lightning came close to the angeni.
But when a brief commotion caught his ears, it buffeted him back to the present and he slowed his pace, looking back. It looked like Falling Rock was trying to keep herself aloft, just as a reverberating roll of thunder carried across the skies. There must have been a lightning strike.
He slowed his wingbeats, easing back. And strangely, the storm itself seemed to lessen as his bravado turned to concern. "Is everything all right?"
Just wondering if you were interested in continuing this or not? No pressure, just trying to keep things organized and getting back into RPing. If you want to keep going, just letting you know I'd be happy to! heart

Her eyes widened at the intense bright light and for a moment she wasn't even sure what had happened. Then, she realized she had barely escaped death's clutches. She grinned at the two stallions as they turned to check on her. "Made you look!" she called, and took off again as the wind swept her forward. She could feel Flint shaking, and she was sure he was yelling at her, but she couldn't hear his tiny peeps of discontent over the roaring of wind in her ears.
Flint knew that if Falling Rock would just take a moment to think, she would be shaken by her close encounter. Just as shaken as he was. But she would keep going to distract herself from feeling fear. That's what she always did. But what she would never realize was how much she put both of them at risk. He sighed. There was still so much for her to learn. Perhaps this herd could teach her...
Chaser felt a flood of relief when she was okay, but then...not only was she okay, but her spirit didn't even flinch a beat. 'Made you look!' she called, and then was back, racing against the wind and lurched forward. Chaser found himself holding back for a moment, just watching her as she wings beat against the air, and her hair whipped around her face in the wind. He almost lost track of what he was doing, and he felt a flutter in his chest that had nothing to do with the fear of her getting hurt.

Thunderbird grinned wildly, the flash of distant lightning reflecting in his magenta eyes. She was fine - and not even very shaken from her experience.
It took almost as much strength in his four wings to slow his momentum but not drop from the skies, especially as he was straining to keep his place in the air. But when the danger was passed, the storm's fury seeming to relent, Thunderbird began to pull himself forward again, gaining momentum once more.
But he was not actively trying to win. He was enjoying being in the storm, feeling the thunder in his blood, and feeling the electric charge in the air as it tingled the roots of his mane.
And... well... being around to see his little brother all flustered around a new mare would have made it worth it even if not for the other perks.
He angled up, climbing high, keeping the other two in his sights below him. ... just in case.
Chaser couldn't help but feel a swell of jealousy in his chest as he watched his brother, Thunderbird. It was so effortless for him - his four wings beating against the sky and his hair shipping about his face like it was made of wind himself.
His mother said he was the true Spirit of Storms, a gift from Thunderbird himself, which is why he was named as such. As a young colt, he thought that was fascinating. As a rambunctious and headstrong colt-caught-somewhere-between-childhood-and-stallionhood, he was suspicious. The True Angeni were generally born in the heavens themselves, so he had been told, not born of a dam and a sire.
But as he got older and a bit calmer and grew into the stallion he would become, it was hard to deny the power his brother held in his wings. It was fascinating, sure, but at times like this we wished desperately be as grand and majestic as he was.
