"Mmm. Misery," he sounded a little too happy at the prospect of misery.
At least there was an upside for him?
Akubi sort of settled where he was put down and just sniffled a bit more, "I'm fine," he insisted firmly. Then a sneeze.
"...Did we bring anything ... in like a war-," more sneezing.

"Yeah. Right. And I'm a cheerful hometown optimist." Her eyes rolled at his insistence.
Anything... What? Riyo's brow furrowed as she tried to figure out what he was trying to say. Warm? Anything warm?
"Uh.." She paused, turning to dig through her big backpack. "I made some tea earlier and stored the rest up in this camping thermos I got." For free, of course.
By the time she reached it under her clothes, the ghoul realized why it was free.
It wasn't a good ******** thermos. The container was ice cold. "s**t... Nevermind." The ghoul grimaced as she pulled out a pack of crackers instead. "I have these though..." Not that it made much of a difference. At least they wouldn't have to sleep hungry.

A good thing about this was ... Akubi wasn't really in the spirit to sass her about anything nor blame her for her attempts to be frugal. Then again he wouldn't have blamed her if he was up to snuff. Snuff that was rapidly declining as the moments passed.
He knew her situation and simply said nothing when she found out the cold truth about the thermos.
"C'ackers are fine," he said sounding more congested than ever before.

He just kept sounding worse and worse. What could she do? Before she opened the crackers, Riyo returned their sleeping bags to their original places and crawled into her own, lest she get a cold too.
Wait.
Oh no. No no no. He wasn't getting in THIS sleeping bag. Not while she occupied it. No matter how bad she felt about his predicament.
The sound of the cracker pack opening was drwarfed by the large raindrops beating their sleeping bag senseless. Small that it was, at least there were no leaks. "Here." She held one out to the cat boil as she munched her own.

Since he'd promised that he'd remain in this form he just leaned forward and gingerly took a cracker from her hand and then began to eat it. it was a bit of a messy affair since he first chewed it to break it to pieces and then ate it up from the ground, though he did try to catch some of it with his paws.
It was ... a mixed bag of success.
"...Dh'orry I sha'd on your cahmbing excib'ment. Wab'n't ri'b of me." He said simply. "We all'b shoul'b try new thing'b."

No matter how much concentration Riyo put forth to understand that garbled mess, it just wasn't enough. About the extent she could translate was 'Sorry'...
She thought. Maybe.
"It's okay." Watching him eat the crackers was a little pathetic. Had he really gotten that sick that fast? If that was the case... Was she about to catch it too? Oh jeez. "I'm sure you'll find a way to make it up to me." Her eyes rolled as she made an obvious joke. More like she'd find a way to get even with him.
After choking down one more saltine, she sat the pack in front of him and tried to get comfortable in her sleeping bag. "Might as well go to bed early so this whole thing can be over quicker."

"I tri'b'ed," he said simply. Akubi did try to very seriously do this for Riyo. Most everyone else he would have just goofed off or just made sure to be a nuisance to everyone around him. Somehow the fellow cat demon had his respect in the most profound way.
It was probably better left unquestioned.
Akubi sort of flopped over on his part of the tent, "Oh-khay. I ho'be I don'b snore.
With his nose this stuffed up it was likely that he would snore.

Which meant it was going to be a long night.
Riyo tossed, she turned, and even tried to cover herself completely with the sleeping bag so that her head was at the bottom and her feet were at the top, but between the cold, the rain, and the snoring, nothing seemed to work.
It wasn't until the wee hours of the morning that the demoness managed to claim a couple winks, which ended up being cut short themselves because of the rising sun.
Wait.
Sun?
The ghoul groaned as her eyes finally opened, almost in awe of the tent's warm glow.

Akubi snorted. He snored. He twitched. He moved.
Unfortunately he moved a bit to close to Riyo as she managed to find some sleep. His instinct to find the nearest warm spot over taking his desire to respect her space. Being asleep sort of ate respect and spat it back out.
When he snorted and grunted, a single eye opened, "...Mmmrrr?"
This wasn't home..

The light had been the first thing Riyo noticed.
The second thing was how close Akubi happened to be. "NOPE." Worked better than coffee. The feline was out and away faster than you could say 'physically insecure'.
Now to figure out what was going on outside. Cautiously, Riyo unzipped the opening of their paper thin dwelling.
"Woah."
Looked like they had woken up just in time to see the pumpkin sun gracefully rise over the mountains, a cornucopia of reds and delicate blues using the sky as a canvas. It wasn't the first time she had been up around this time, but it was the first time she realized how important such a thing was.

There was only a faint hiss of disapproval since her body moved away and he was left to roll haplessly unto his broad back. Legs peddled at the air for a little while until he managed to right himself and waddle his way over to gaze out of the tent opening with a sort of blank look on his face.
While he could agree it was pretty, he didn't seem to have the same appreciation for it that Riyo did.
Akubi sniffled softly, "Loo'bs nice," he said in a supreme understatement.

"Yeah. It does." Riyo mumbled, obviously too distracted to be mad at Akubi's lackluster and sniffly commentary.
"All these years I've woken up with the sun, not once did I stop what I was doing to take a moment and look at it. I was always too busy." The cat ghoul fully unzipped the tent, grabbing her sleeping bag before the cold draft could get her. "I'm sure even if someone had commented one of those times, I would've just scoffed and paid no mind."
Her ears twitched as she heard the sounds of morning birds singing. "Hard to believe something so simple can be so beautiful."
Was that... Was she? She was. Riyo smiled. Not a menacing smile, not a mocking smile. It was warm. Almost as warm as the sun's first rays.

Akubi was pretty much set to follow Riyo simply because he was no longer tired (he'd rested peacefully enough), and because he wanted to see what she was seeing but alas the magic of the moment was lost on him. Perhaps he had not matured enough to appreciate the things she did.
Maybe he just hadn't had enough hardship to appreciate these things.
Either way he did note the smile and his head cocked to the side, "You look nice when you really smile," was all he simply said. It was oddly sincere.

That was enough to snap her out of it. "W-what? No I don't.." She could feel her cheeks warming. Moment over. "Lets... Get packed up and go back to civilization." The ghoul stood and started grabbing things to shove back in her bag. No more compliments prs.

"Do so," he retorted simply but he didn't insist any further than that. There was a moment where Akubi just sat there on his fat round rump before eventually in the place of the cat was a humanoid catboil stretching his arms over his head and getting up to his feet.
Thankfully for all involved when he transformed his clothes remained in place.
Akubi started helping out in cleaning the camp sight, "...Would this be considere'b a success?" His nasal stuffiness was slowly fading.
