"No you couldn't," he told her, grinning at the very idea. "You'd be so red I could cook a squeezeburger on your forehead. An' friends with benefits is--" Okay, now he was pushing it, he thought. "Well..." how much should he tell her?
"First off, I ain't ever had one--so don't think I'm speakin' from experience, here. But they're just friends that do... physical stuff t'gether," he told her--this time it was him that was getting slightly red around the neck. "Y'know, makin' out... more, even, I guess. Depends on them. But it ain't nothin' t'do with us--cuz like I said, I doubt you'd be able to kiss me, much less more without your head explodin or somethin'!"
Then he looked evil. "Tho I would PAY t'see that happen," he said with a wicked grin.

Oh. Benefits.
Lark narrowed her eyes at the boil, zoning in on that reddened skin around his neck. When she finally lifted her green eyes up to meet his paler ones, Lark cocked a brow - she looked ridiculous, considering how bright jackin' red she was - and crossed her arms over her chest.
"You darin' me t'do somethin', Roch?"

"I ain't, cuz y'couldn't do it," he said, looking quite certain on this fact. "Y'see, I can see y'learnin' t'ride a motorcycle, doin' a bit of graffiti, that sort of thing, but you ain't the type t'kiss a boil y'ain't madly deeply--plannin' on marryin' the moment y'get out of high school," he said, looking her straight in the eye.

Well, he obviously didn't have any idea what he was talking about.
"Ain't true. I kissed someone before an' I ain't planned on marryin' him. And I don't know if'm ever gonna marry anyone. Y'sayin' y'don't think," she squinted, "I'd kiss on y'jest b'cause m'head might explode, but y'know I ain't th'kind t'step down from a challenge."
She was blushing, yes, but there was also a steely sort of look in her eye.
"So if'y'gonna dare me t'kiss you..."

Jack she was cute, he thought, staring at her for a second, a little grin pulling at his lips. So jackin' red, yet still jumpin' at the HINT of a dare. He shouldn't, he thought. He'd already decided that this was dangerous--
But they'd already decided to do the dangerous thing, right? And jack it, he thought, it'd been MONTHS since he'd gotten "some sugar." So shamelessly he leaned forward, a wicked grin on his face--
He shouldn't.
"I dare ya," he said. If she closed her eyes, he thought, reaching into his pants pocket and touching his phone--but if she didn't--
Jack it was hard to be a good boil. Maybe he should give up trying.

Well.
Lark bit the inside of her lip for a second. She was weighing her options. Roch had very plainly dared her to kiss him and her dignity was on the line. If she backed down, she lost.
And it was just a kiss. It wasn't like he'd dared her to do anything she hadn't done before - granted, she'd never kissed Roch, but she'd kissed Kettil.
Kissing was totally not a big deal.
"Fine."
She narrowed her eyes and promptly kissed him on the cheek.

He had a completely shocked look on his face for all of a second before he fell back, laughing his head off. "I--jack--that--" he couldn't even speak he was laughing so hard. "Okay, y'got me," he said with a grin as he stopped laughing. "Y'did it, an' your head didn't explode--but y'ARE bright red," he teased.

Lark couldn't help but grin. Yeah, she could feel the hot blush on her cheeks, but whatever. He'd never said where she'd had to kiss him.
Mission jackin' accomplished.
"Y'know I don't think I'ma ever be normal in th'face again - ev'ry time I hang out w'you I get all red in th'face. Might as well get used t'it, I guess."
She didn't sound bothered by the prospect of eternally blushing. This had been a pretty great afternoon, after all. No sense in ruining it.
"Yer still a jackin' s**t," Lark had to clarify before she sat back.

"An' just for that," he said, leaning forward and grinning at her again, "I'm takin' that dare, too." He moved forward, pressing a small kiss to her temple before hopping to his feet. "Wanna do another lap before we head back?" he asked--as if he'd done absolutely nothing wrong.

Hey, wait, she'd never dared him to kiss her!!
Lark rose to her feet as Roch did, a very squinty-eyed expression on her face.
"Y'can't go 'round n'jest dare y'self t'do things," she grunted, giving him a look as she rubbed her temple, "so y'owe me two laps n' then we can leave."

"Two laps, huh?" he said, heading for the bike to grab his helmet and mount. "We might be able t'do that. If y'ask real sweet," he said before pulling the helmet on. Then he waved her closer, expecting her to mount.
This relationship--it was interesting, he thought. And he had no jackin' doubt that it was going to become hella frustrating for him, too, he admitted as he watched her. He wondered if she even realized how cute he thought she was.
Nope, probably not. "I'll do it without you if y'take too long!"

Lark stuck her tongue out at him before she nabbed her helmet and very carefully settled it over her head. Last thing she wanted to do was mess up the effort that Roch had put into her hair.
It didn't take long for her to slide onto the bike behind Roch, spindly arms wrapping around his waist just like she'd done on the ride over.
"Pleeeeease, two laps?"

"And the tongue just tops it!" he teased as he started out on the course. He opened the throttle and raced around the curves with grace gained from almost two years of riding and learning shadow step. One time around, two times around, and a third time just for the hell of it.
Then he started for the street, slowing down a bit as he got to it. This was a good way to end it, he thought. Maybe. He'd admit, he thought to himself, for a second he'd gotten a bit excited. He really did need to get some lovin' sometime.
Maybe a friend with benefits wasn't such a bad idea after all...
