Tuck was too busy trying to remember how to draw breath to speak. He gave Evan a distracted nod as he picked himself up off the ground.
For a second it had felt like his heart was going to stop beating, or maybe explode out of his chest.

"Ah, you're fine," Evan said to Tuck, not at all sympathetic to his suddenly sorry state. "Suck it up, Army. Shallow breaths, you'll be okay."

Evan grinned and shook his head. Tuck couldn't be that hurt if he was still asking about food. "Could do with a snack, maybe," he allowed, bending to retrieve his shirt.
