The unicorn had picked up the signs that someone or something was near even without the whispered words from the mare in front of him. The rain had picked up in strength again and the thing that worried Cosmic was that the ground below would be soggy and hold prints better. Scent would not be an issue in that case if the pair got too close. The stallion sighed softly before breaking into a fast trot. He'd rather put the greatest amount of distance between himself and the perceived threat behind him that he could.
At first it came as a niggling thought. That thought then bloomed into the terrible knowledge that there was a chance that there wasn't a possible way to outdistance their pursuers. He might have to fight. Cosmic Eternity stopped suddenly and turned around to stare into the distance. He was done with running. He uttered three words as he lowered his horn towards the invisible foe, "Let them come."

Morsmordre turned and looked at the unicorn in the lashing rain. He seemed to have found a backbone, and possibly the best or worst time. But she was tired of running too, tired of fleeing from those stupid birdbrains.
Whipping her tail around, she stood beside the unicorn. "Yes, let them come," her breath was soft and menacing. "Take to the trees, they might not think you're with me still. It will give us some surprise or stand your ground. Your choice."

The element of surprise seemed more appealing to Cosmic Eternity and he slowly scanned the surrounding vista before picking up on a likely target that would conceal most of his bulk. Considering also that he was the color of night personified would be an asset in the struggle to come. He was certain that in the rain and darkness that his coat would camouflage him well enough to get the jump on Morsmordre's pursuers. His horn glinted briefly as he silently acknowledged the mare's words before he turned away from her.
With a steady pace Cosmic reached his target and shifted to put the tree in front of him. He peered around the trunk to watch the unfolding scenario. He would need to time his entrance perfectly.
The rain continued to fall steadily.

Artemis dug her claws in as they moved fast and hard on the trail. It was so fresh, the prints had not yet been washed away even though they were filled with water. They were gaining on them faster than she would have thought. Them, she could tell there were two.
It was unlike Morsmordre to have companionship, especially now. Was she still wounded or? She scented for the smell of fresh blood, but she could not find it. It had either washed away or she had somehow healed.
She slowed down her lank hair slapped against her skin. Blood pumped hard in her veins as they moved around the corner to see Morsmordre standing there.

Khonvoum was fast on his sister's hooves, he could feel the pound of his heart like thunder in his ears until it melded with the real thunder. He was ready for the kill, ready to find them and fight. He smiled wickedly as they finally found them.
Morsmordre was standing there, a bit paler than usual but her stance all angles and anger. She was set and ready for them. His claws bit into the soft earth as he growled at her. "Hello, serpent." He laughed gutterally dreaming of splitting her open and feasting on her entrails.
He saw his sister's hesitance, her whispered voice. "Where's the other?" He snarled. "Do you think us fools?"

Morsmordre smiled at them both and answered the male, "I do."
She threw herself at him with vengeance. It was perhaps not the smartest thing to do, but it was the least expected. Let her make them both turn to her so that Cosmic could sneak behind them. She hoped he took the hint, that they would not be ready for his attack.
She dug her tail teeth into Khonvoum's throat as she wrapped her tail around his leg and gave it a jerk.

At first Cosmic was not sure if an ambush would work on the pair that was tracking them. As he hid behind the tree that concealed him various scenarios of things that could go wrong flashed through his mind. He shook out his mane before casting his gaze out on what would come to be the field of battle once more. It was a good decision. The stallion watched in disbelief as two individuals stormed into the clearing and engaged Morsmordre in small talk. The stallion waited a few more minutes before he caught a silent cue from the mare that he'd helped to heal.
Edging out as quietly as he could Cosmic watched as Morsmordre flung herself into battle. It was a reckless move but she seemed to have caught the duo off guard. It was time to even up the fight. Breaking into a gallop he charged towards the strange mare, horn lowered in an attempt to gore her in the side.

The blind fury with which their quarry threw herself at her brother made Artemis bloodlust rise. Anger rose hot into her chest and she threw herself at Morsmordre. She had never thought that she'd ever care for her brother, but their father had demanded it--had deemed it was the curse that drove them apart.
Her brother's blood poured from him as he went down, her--
She bit back a scream as a sharp piercing pain tore through her leg, she went down half way trying to break away from the pain. Her eyes lit on the unicorn standing there, her teeth drawn back in a feral snarl. She stumbled slightly turning to face him, her leg weeping copious amounts of blood. "I will make a feast of you," she screamed it as she struck out with her tail as a whip and her back claws trying to tear across his chest.

Khonvoum had not been prepared for the assault yet. As he felt her teeth bite into his neck and his leg come from under him, he remembered his father scolding them saying they didn't know how a real enemy fought--that they had no idea how to fight someone who was skilled and unafraid. Finally, he tasted the truth of those words--that they were still children in the ways of war, but not Morsmordre.
She'd fought all her life. It was much different when they'd feasted on her blood before. He jerked back to his feet and threw himself at her, she was painfully quick and his teeth snapped empty air.
The blood dripped down his neck and he dived at the mare again, finally catching the rhythmm of her though his teeth barely brushed her side.

Morsmordre spit out a mouthful of blood, her body still slower than she was used to. But the male was big and he lost a bit of speed, and he was arrogant and young. She was surprised that Horus hadn't trained this out of them yet, but then again...they were young. She would bring the war to them. She would decimate them.
She didn't taunt him, but launched again with her spaded tail as she darted out of the way, flicking a long cut on his ribs. She let out a laugh, "Are you sure your Horus' son?"

There was a moment's reprieve in which uncharacteristically Cosmic Eternity felt a small thrill at the amount of damage he had caused with just one blow. That moment soon evaporated as the mare turned on him. He listened to the words that she spoke before she pressed the attack. He found himself on the defensive. No words came from his throat as the fight moved away from Morsmordre and her attacker. At least he had done this task right. He'd drawn the attention away so it became two one-on-one battles.
Shifting his bulk to the side Cosmic still felt the mare's claws rake his side. He knew that the wound on her back leg would hamper her movements and thus he began to sidestep as quickly as he could. Lowering his horn once more Cosmic felt the wounds on his side protest as he attempt to once again drive his horn into his opponent, this time he was aiming for the other back leg.

Artemis bared her teeth at the unicorn as he charged again, she was slower than he was--a bit heavier and injured but now she was more wary. She could feel her confidence bleeding out like her wound, making her feel unsure of herself. Her leg felt weak as she twisted away from his horn, barely getting out of the way in time.
She slashed out with her horns and claw, trying to rake or pierce his flesh. Her legs felt wobbly beneath her, aching.

Khonvoum felt anger overcome him. He often used it as a weapon, but a part of him--a smarter part of him warned him that using anger against Morsmordre was foolish. But he couldn't help himself.
"I AM HIS SON!" He threw himself at her with raking claws his tail (vastly inferior to hers) trying to wrap around her appendages and throw her to the ground. He would stomp the life out of her, he would crush her to bits.
But the fury of his attacks were wasted, he was much too slow and she was much to calm. He barely caught himself before falling.

Morsmordre had learned this dance as a foal. The way to move and scratch and hack at your opponent. She was not chipping away just at his body, but at his ego and his confidence. Dance and dart until he becomes unsure of himself. Let him bleed until he was too weak to carry on. It paid to be quicker, colder. She had been playing this game a long, long time.
He flew past her and she flicked her tail along him and darted out of the way his tail merely slapping at his skin. "Stupid little boy, no true son of Horus would ever be so stupid. Is this the first time he's let you fight? Does daddy keep you on a short leash?"
