A low growl escaped the dragon as he felt her claws digging into him while she urged him on. With a sort of feral snarl, he pumped harder. Jericho's back and wings were burning. They were tired. They wanted to stop, but at this point, given how high Riley had brought them up, he didn't have much of a choice.

There was the kind of reaction she was looking for. Her nails lifted off of him, and very carefully, so did the rest of her hands. They remained in place, in case he faltered or gave up, but they no longer touched him.
That's more like it. She announced proudly. Look down, Jericho. You're flying. I haven't been holding you up for several minutes now.

With him focusing as he was, Jericho hadn't quite noticed that Riley had released him at all. That was, until she spoke up. Blinking as he heard her, he glanced down to see that, he was, indeed, flying! Though, this broke his concentration some, and thus... he began to drop.

Ah- As soon as he started to falter, her arms, still at his sides, wrapped under his shoulders and picked up his weight. She carried him easily, as she floated very slowly down to the ground. Well done, Jericho. She purred, patting his back gently as they touched ground. I am now confident that the only thing you need is more practice. Now. Rest, a bit. She let him go. When I feel the time is sufficient, we will go up and try again.

Once they were on the ground, Jericho sagged down to his knees for the time being, feeling the fatigue hit him. "I..I was actually up in the air. On my own," he said, sounding a little dazed. He actually didn't quite know how he felt about flying there since the moment had been brief. Before that he was too busy pushing himself to keep flapping.

Riley's expression looked absolutely radiant, and she carefully moved to kneel beside him, sitting back on her haunches and giving him a hug. You were. And you will be again. And again, and again. You will soar, and roam, and the skies will be yours to command once more. Because that is where you belong, Jericho. And I know that is where I will always find you.
She patted his back gently, and her thumb pressed down the muscles that were directly attached to the wings. So, does it hurt now?

A smile crept up to Jericho's expression at that. Taking to the skies, truly, seemed like it would be amazing. This one time, he hadn't really been able to really feel it, but eventually.. he will. "Thank you, Riley, and uh... yeah. It burns."

You're welcome. She chuckled when he said it burned, and stopped massaging it. Good. It's supposed to. That means you're going to get stronger. We'll go up again in five minutes.
And so it went. Riley was no easy taskmaster, and she managed to get Jericho up in the air five times before finally letting him rest for the day. It could have been done easier; they could have gone slower; he could have eventually flown on his own with time. But Riley did not believe in time, anymore. There was a now, and there was a never.
So she carried Jericho up into the now, and continued to ignore the impending nevers.

For a moment, Jericho's jaw dropped when he apparently was only going to get a five minute break. But then his mouth closed and he just grinned at her.
"You're on," he stated.
He took her challenge, but damn it was stressful on his body. By the time he was done, he could barely feel his wings.
