BlackGuilmon considered what little he knew about the Crests and nodded. "Sounds about right." He glanced over at Hagurumon questioningly. "So, those databanks of yours have any info on whose crest is whose?"Hagurumon nodded... or whatever the giant-gear equivalent of that is. "Only some. Jimmy's most logical Crests, if my and FanBeemon's personalities are any indication, are Knowledge and Love respectively. It has already been revealed that Sandra holds Friendship, most likely corresponding with Bearmon's Ultimate form being Monzaemon. Other than that, I can only conclude that Shadow's Crests are Light and Darkness - "BlackGuilmon gave Hagurumon an indignant look at that last bit, interrupting him. "Oh, so basically, since I'm a Black Digimon and a Virus-type, that means the Crest corresponding with me is Darkness? What happened to machines being above prejudice?""I did not intend any insult; I was simply stating the most logical conclusion based off knowledge of both you and your partner's natures. You are a Black variation, thus automatically aligning your personality at least somewhat with darkness, and Shadow is a rather dark person. As such it stands to reason that he would have the Crest of Darkness."BlackGuilmon actually seemed to get a little angrier at that. "Just because I'm a BlackGuilmon as opposed to a normal Guilmon doesn't mean that I've automatically got a darker personality!"Hagurumon rolled its eyes. "Again, I am not attempting to imply that. I am simply stating this based on what I know of you; I am in no way basing my data off of a stereotype, because I know that if I did you would no doubt turn me into spare parts and scrap metal."Somehow, that seemed to both insult and mollify BlackGuilmon at the same time, because he just crossed his arms and sulked.FanBeemon considered this information a moment and soon came to a conclusion that was ridiculously in character for him. "Hmm... Knowledge and Love... All right, then Sparky should be able to get both of them in one go by showing Evelyn how much he knows about sex-GAH!" He quickly found himself being strangled by a blushing Sparky again; fortunately, he managed to get enough air moving through his throat to speak this time. "Oi, oi, you'll never get the Crest of Love if you go around strangling innocent Digimon! Spread the love mon, spread the love!""Innocent my a**, you little pervert!" Sparky snapped, tightening his grip on the bee's neck. "You are anything BUT innocent!"

Evelyn sighed before pulling FanBeemon from Sparky's hold. "If I start holding you like this -" She said before hugging him close to her chest. "Would you calm down and let the none perverted digimon and humans talk about real plans?" She asked nicely. She then looked to Sparky, "And you really shouldn't be taking the things he says too seriously." She said smiling.Lunamon sighed before kissing Blackguilmon's cheek to pacify him. "You know I don't care you are a virus type right?" She asked. Sandra turned from the two placing one hand to her chest where her heart was. She didn't know what she was feeling but she felt wrong.

Sparky blushed slightly in embarrassment, but nonetheless nodded sheepishly... though he did seem a little envious of the perverted little Digimon.BlackGuilmon relaxed at that, nodding in acknowledgement to Lunamon, though he did seem to be blushing a little. He then turned to Hagurumon. "So, any idea where to start looking for these Crests... wait, do you guys hear something?"THWACK!
Calumon groaned as he sat up from his spot on the now K.O.'ed BlackGuilmon's head, and interestingly enough he'd brought a couple of strange books this time. "Owie... why's Boss gotta have such a weird sense of humor? I mean, did he really need to launch me here with a giant slingshot?" Calumon then looked up again. "Oh, hey guys! I told Boss about the other guy being gone, and he sent me back with a note and these two books. Uh... could you pick them up for me? I got the note on me somewhere, but the books're kinda too heavy for me to lift myself..." Indeed, the books were thick and leatherbound, and while one seemed fairly recent, the other seemed much older.

Evelyn gave Sparky and small peak on his cheek before going with the other girls to see the books. She kept Fanbeemon in her arms."BlackGuilmon!" Sandra and Lunamon said. They pushed the books and Calumon off him. They moved him to the a nice bed of grass. Sandra left Lunamon to care for him before seeing the books."What are the books about?" Christa asked Calumon.

Sparky seemed mollified by the kiss, and even seemed to enjoy it a little, if the blush was any indication.Calumon shrugged in reply to Christy's question even as he absentmindedly looked for the note. "Well, I think one book is about these things called crests, but the other... dunno. When I asked Boss about it, he just gave some weird cryptic reply about friendship n' understanding... Ah-ha!" Calumon produced a note from... somewhere... and opened it before reading it to the Digidestined.

Calumon then looked up at everyone, waiting for their reaction.Leo carefully picked the two books up, examining the titles. "Crests Across the Ages and Shadows of the Past... Well, at least it's easy to tell which book is which." Curious, he opened the newer-looking book, the one about Shadow, to a random page... and immediately turned green before slamming it shut. "I think we should read the one about the Crests first," the soldier-in-training decided hastily, neglecting to tell anyone what he saw in the book.

The girls all sat down ready to listen about the crests. Coronamon and Kudamon leaned against their tamer. Sandra looked over to Lunamon and BlackGuilmon then looked at the book about Shadow. She picked it up and held it close. SHe wanted to understand him and help him.

It was quickly decided that Commandramon would be the one to read the book... mainly because it was written in Digicode and Commandramon was currently the only non-fiery Digimon with opposable thumbs. He waited for BlackGuilmon to return to the land of the living, then quickly opened the book. "All right, lemme see here... History of the Crests... Dark Crests... Light Crests... here! Crest Locations!" Commandramon studied the Digicode on the page for a few moments before he started speaking. "Well, there's a lot of mystic mumbo-jumbo that I just don't get, but the general idea seems to be that the Crest of Knowledge was last seen in some sort of factory or somethin', hidden behind a riddle. Love's hidden in some sort of dangerous forest, and Friendship was left in the care of a Monzaemon. There's a bunch of other crests highlighted... Respect and Courage are both in some sort of wasteland, Determination's in a desert, Honor is in some sort of land of fire, Hope was taken by a Seraphimon a while back, Sincerity was apparently taken by a Devimon, and Reliability somehow ended up getting swallowed by a Whamon. Lastly, there's Light and Darkness... odd." Commandramon scratched his head. "Says here that the Crests of Light and Darkness were hidden away by a pair of Digimon... 'The Light was hidden in the land of darkness where the Vademon walk, and the Darkness was hidden where brother turned against brother.'" Commandramon looked up, looking at the others. "The names of the Digimon who did it are literally scratched out, though." He showed them a couple of places on the page where certain bits were made unreadable by some sort of claw or talon. "Anyway, got any idea what the little riddle means? I'm a soldier, not a riddle-solver."BlackGuilmon, meanwhile, was more interested in the book about Shadow, and was currently trying to persuade Sandra to let go of it so he could take a look-see at it.

Sandra sighed before giving the black dragon the book. Though she did look to him to read it with her. She really was interested in the book."Well I guess I have to go to the land of fire and find devimon." Evelyn said looking down at her digivice remembering she had Honor and Sincerity."So then I will be going to the wasteland." Christa said.

"Well, at least Dad taught me desert survival.""I don't think each of us heading off alone is a good idea... I mean, look what happened to Shadow," Liollmon pointed out.Commandramon nodded as he closed the book. "Agreed. General Leo's group should go with Christa's group, Sparky's group should stick with Evelyn's group, and BlackGuilmon and Hyokomon should stick with Sandra's group. That way everyone has backup.""Wouldn't it make more sense to pair Shadow's Digimon with one group and Sandra with another?" Liollmon pointed out.Commandramon immediately rounded on Liollmon. "Are you questioning my orders, soldier?!?""Of course not... just your intelligence!""WHY YOU LITTLE - !" ...And cue brawl, complete with the little dust cloud, though fortunately Sparky took the book before it could get sucked into the conflict.BlackGuilmon, meanwhile, had taken the book and opened it, examining the prologue... and paused. "...Well, this certainly explains quite a bit... but also raises so many questions and makes me a little sick inside."Hyokomon immediately tried to get a look at the book. "Lemme see, lemme see!" However, he was immediately knocked out by a quick chop to the neck.BlackGuilmon returned his hand to his previous position, having K.O.'ed the little chicken so the innocent little guy didn't have to hear this, before reading the brief but VERY interesting prologue:
"This is the story of a child born to two sinners, who nearly became a sinner himself. This is the story of a child who was saved from the brink of darkness by love, only to be plunged in deeper than before by the pride and wrath of those who birthed him and the greed and lust of one he called friend. This is the story of a boy who became a mere husk of his former self, his ideals and morals twisted by those who should have put him on the right path, his soul and sanity shattered by the darker side of humanity, his hands stained with the red taint of murder and vengeance. This is the story of one who truly believes that he belongs in Hell, but at the same time is too afraid to let go of his life. This is the story of a boy who wishes to dwell in the light... but no matter what he does, he cannot escape the Shadow of his past."
BlackGuilmon glanced over at Sandra and her partners, his expression grim. "And to think... that's just the prologue. You sure you want to read this?"

"I swear if you don't start reading it to me, I'll smack you." Sandra said glaring at BlackGuilmon. She was already stressed that she had to handle four digimon while trying to find the digimon that have her crests then go and rescue Shadow. She didn't have time to hesitant when finding out things about Shadow.Evelyn smiled to Jimmy, "So it will just be you and me and our digimon, Jimmy. Who's crests should we go for first?" She asked. Coronamon jumped up and down, "Me! Me! Get my crest first. I wanna go to ultimate!" He said excited. Evelyn giggled at her digimon."I guess we should get to the desert first? That way we can be out of the hot climate faster." Christa said to Leo.

BlackGuilmon took the hint and began reading the book, making sure to keep quiet enough that only himself, Sandra, and Sandra's Digimon would hear. To sum it up, apparently Shadow's parents were complete and utter monsters in everything but appearance. They lied, they stole, about the only two things they didn't do were adultery and murder... and even then those were technicalities, since Shadow's father had plenty of glorified sex-slaves and they paid off plenty of assassins to take care of anyone who even annoyed them. Hell, EVERYONE knew what they were like, and the only reason nobody had managed to throw them in jail was because nobody could get any proof - any witnesses were added to Shadow's parents' hit-list. Naturally, the nature of his parents caused Shadow, named at birth as one Jackson Black, to be ostracized by everyone the moment he was born... except for his two best friends, one male and one female. They were pretty much the only ones to keep him a normal, kind person - they were the only thing keeping him sane. Eventually, the female best friend even became his girlfriend.
It was at that point in the story that BlackGuilmon turned the page... only to pause and stare at the illustration provided. "...Well... this certainly explains a lot." He cleared his throat.
"On Jackson's girlfriend's 16th birthday, he bought her a present and went to her home, only to find that she hadn't been home for several days, and that her parents had assumed she was sleeping over at his house. Naturally, this worried all three of them, and they went searching for her... only for Shadow to be the one to find her cold, dead carcass in his so-called best friend's basement. Naturally, this pushed Jackson's already-delicate sanity over the edge, and he dragged his 'friend' to the basement, demanding answers. After several hours of torture, Jackson's 'friend' finally confessed to being the one who murdered his beloved.
Apparently Henry, the 'friend' in question, had only become Jackson's friend because Jackson's parents had paid him to. Eventually, Mr. and Mrs. Black had decided that Jackson and his girlfriend were growing too close, and had paid Henry to kill the poor girl... but only after Henry had had his way with her.
Needless to say, this was the last straw for Jackson. He killed his traitorous friend on the spot, carving MURDERER into his chest, before heading back to the Black residence and killing his own parents, the ones responsible for the death of his girlfriend, with his bare hands in a particularly gruesome manner."
BlackGuilmon then wordlessly showed Sandra the illustration in the book - a picture of Shadow/Jackson, hands, torso, and face spattered with blood, the room he was in covered in even more blood and several near-unrecognizable human body parts. As for Shadow/Jackson himself, in addition to the aforementioned blood all over himself, his eyes were filled with tears and an unbearable sadness, the kind of sadness that can break not only one's heart but also one's mind... as had apparently happened to Shadow/Jackson, if the account in the book was anything to go by.Jimmy nodded. "I guess it does make sense, since he's the only one that can go to Champion right now - we can save the Devimon one for last," he agreed. "Let's just hope this land of fire thing isn't as fiery as it sounds."Leo considered this a moment. "Agreed," he decided after a moment. "After that, though, we go to that wasteland, since it'd be sensible to get as many Ultimates as possible before heading inside a Whamon... which, judging from the name, is probably the Digimon equivalent of a whale."

"Yes!" Coronamon said doing a little dance before sitting down with his tamer. Evelyn shuck her head before looking to Jimmy, "Then which one should we go after?" She asked."Right, but hopefully Whamon will understand why we have to go inside him." Christa said.Sandra got up and turned from her and Shadow's digimon to cry for him. She couldn't see or understand what he went through but heart bled out for him. She wanted him right next to her now to hug him close. Lunamon started to cry for Shadow hugging BlackGuilmon.

Sparky considered this a moment. "Hmm... I'm thinking FanBeemon's. If his forms stick to the bee theme, his Ultimate form will probably be big enough to fly around on, so that way we'll be able to get to the other two Crests that much quicker."( eek ...You do realize how disturbing that line about Whamon sounded if you interpret it the wrong way, right?) Leo nodded. "Right. Anyway, after the desert, we can hit the wasteland. Sound good?"BlackGuilmon was caught a little off-guard, but nevertheless hugged his beloved Lunamon right back. He himself was similarly feeling sympathetic, but didn't let it show because 1. Lunamon needed a shoulder to cry on, 2. he was supposed to be an apathetic badass, and 3. if Shadow got word of him crying, BlackGuilmon would probably end up as a Digiegg again, and going through that once was enough.

(XP yeah I know but we can have Wamon have a comedic pause when they ask him.) Christa nodded before getting up. She looked to the others and said, "Well I guess we should separate for now. Once we all have our crests we should meet back up in the building we were led to."Evelyn nodded in agreement to what Christa said. She got up and stood. "Well then we'll see you guys later." She said before offering one of her hands to Jimmy. Sandra walked back to Shadow and Her digimon knowing she had to get them moving. "You tell Shadow I cried BlackGuilmon and I'll tell him you let one tear loss." She said picking up Hyokomon and looked to the digimon. "Now first we should go and ask Seraphimon for the crest of Hope then go to find the Monzaemon that has the Crest of Friendship." She said

Seraphimon are ridiculously rare... in fact, the only one I know about is... well, he's part of that group I mentioned that's obsessed with getting rid of Virus-types - the one with Gallantmon in it." BlackGuilmon grimaced. "So we might want to go after the Crest of Hope AFTER the Crest of Friendship."Hyokomon, who had woken up in time to overhear their conversation, blinked. "Why? Aren't Seraphimon supposed to be nice and stuff?" he asked innocently."To Data and Vaccine Digimon, yes; Viruses, not so much," BlackGuilmon deadpanned at his fellow Digimon. "And if Gallantmon's been nearby, he'll have no doubt mentioned that the Digidestined have one of the worst Virus-types in existence on their side."Hyokomon blinked innocently. "Really? Who's that?"BlackGuilmon stared incredulously at the bird, no doubt wondering how someone could be THAT naive, before sighing. "Lemme put it this way: a NORMAL Guilmon has the potential to eventually dark-digivolve into Megidramon, a Digimon whose very existence would destabilize the Digital World, possibly to the point of worldwide deletion... and I'm the dark version."Hyokomon seemed to consider this for a moment. "...So then, you dark-digivolving would be...""Very, very bad, yes," BlackGuilmon confirmed, relieved that the innocent Digimon finally seemed to get it. "Hence why the odds of Seraphimon giving us a warm welcome with me in our party are somewhere between 'not happening' and 'we'll be lucky if we aren't obliterated on sight'."Leo nodded, standing up as well. "All right then." He glanced down at Commandramon and Liollmon. "Any idea where this desert is?""I know where to go," Liollmon volunteered. "My Digiegg hatched in the village there."When Commandramon heard that his hated (well maybe not that bad, but you get the idea) rival was the one who was supposed to lead them, the dragon-dino-thing looked like he'd just swallowed something unpleasant... probably his pride.Sparky smiled and took Evelyn's hand. "All right then, to the land of fire or whatever it's called.""Energy signature reminiscent of Coronamon's detected," Hagurumon piped up. "I will track it." With that, he headed off, obviously expecting the other two to follow.
