"I ain't bein' a bad date," Roch said--only to laugh. "Seriously, I would have taken you to a Johnny Danger concert an' convinced you he was the best guitarist in the world if I was deliberately bein' a bad date," he told her, exaggerating slightly. "But then I'd have'ta drag my own a** into the gym t'kick it. An' I got the bike fixed--so if y'wanna go on a ride sometime, we can!"

His dramatics had her laughing into her hands. "I dunno, what if that backfired and I suddenly became a huge Johnny Danger fan?" she asked, biting her lower lip and half-swaying to the band still playing in the background.
"But I'd love to go for a ride sometime if you'll have me along for it."

"That would make me the absolute worst date in all of Halloween," Roch said with a very serious face. "Terrible, horrible date. One that should be shot."
He looked up as the food came. "Ah, food's here--fork's in the roll of a napkin on your right, along with a knife," he told her. "But really, it's all finger food," he added, "if y'don't mind sauce, that is."

She couldn't help but keep laughing, shaking her head lightly as she felt around for the roll that he'd described being there for her, only succeeding in rolling it clear off the table.
For a moment, Angeline stared in the direction of the noise before sighing.
"I don't mind making a little bit of a mess of my hands." she decided. After all - feeling things was part of the fun in life, right? "Now..plate.. is....." she motioned with her hand. "About here?"

"Yep, right there and down a bit," he said, leaning down and picking up the napkin wrapped silverware--and swapping it with one from the table next to them. "Just dig in--it's all easy t'grab. Your drink's t'the right and about a half arm's reach forward," he added.
He started eating his own food--shoveling it down quickly and leaning back to drink his coke. "I'm not bein' that bad a date, am I?" he asked.

She followed the verbal directions and ended up with her palm right in the middle of her plate, laughing a little bit as she pulled her hand away and carefully felt to pick up what felt like a roll of some sort - one which tasted like it was filled with cream cheese on first bite. Then it quickly betrayed her to a burn of Habanero.
Good thing he'd told her where her water was (because she was smart enough to only want water with her hot foods). "Oh man, this definitely has some burn to it - in the good way."
She paused when he asked about being a good date, however, tilting her head at him. "Am I giving you that impression? Because I think you're being fantastic, actually."

"Thank you," he said with a little smile. "I guess I'm just... feelin' a bit..." he stopped. "Hell, I dunno. First date after a relationship ends, it's sort of... like startin' all over again," he admitted. "An' I ain't gonna get into the whole relationship thing, so don't worry bout it," he promised. "But... y'know," he said with a shrug. "Just tryin' t'get back into... the... hell, I don't know," he said. "I'll stop now."

Angeline's expression softened a bit as he made his attempt to describe how awkward the situation was for him. "I think I understand - something along the lines of wondering if one person's rejection is ingrained in a way that other's will follow suite, right?" She sounded like her mother, if she was honest with herself.

"More like... I ain't sure how I screwed up last time, so it's easy enough t'assume I'm gonna be screwing up now an' not even realizing it," he said. "Honestly--I don't know if I'm ready t'be flirtin' with ghouls yet. But it's not bad, goin' out, meetin' new people, listenin' t'good music, jokin' around. Actually, I figure this is a good thing--an' I hate t'have'ta admit it to Terra, cuz she'll be crowin' about it for weeks."
The relationship between Roch and Terra was probably becoming clearer now. "But... I do gotta thank you for goin' along with her idea," he said.

She laughed again. "Your first mistake is assuming the same thing that bothers one ghoul will bother another one. We're all a little different, so it's just as easy it was a one-time thing."
Still, she had to agree with him - "I think it's nice to get a little more social in my life. Have to meet new people or else life will always be the same - as my dad says."

"Y'can't tell me that Johnny Danger would be a so-called superstar rocker if there weren't millions of ghouls out there that thought he was amazing," Roch pointed out. "So I gotta figure that the chances are good a ghoul about my age is gonna recognize him, an' not decent blues. Or rock. Or any other genre barrin' country--cuz I don't think I recognize decent country."
She'd gotten him started. Poor Angeline.

Angeline had one answer for him: "I recognized decent blues and not him until you started talking about him. So what does that make me?" she asked, tilting her head at him while shoving another Habanero-roll into her mouth.
She was dainty, clearly.

He thought about it. Probably thought about it a bit too long. "Well... a jackin' good ear, for one," he decided finally. "You weren't lyin' when you said your senses were good. I gotta appreciate that in a... well, anyone, actually. Did I tell you I got perfect pitch hearin?" he asked. Now he WAS bragging. Although it was a useless thing, for the most part, he was proud of it! "I wonder if you do, too..."
Because if she did, he thought, she could learn to play an instrument easily enough! (Wait... seriously, Roch, what if she doesn't want to?)

"I have no idea what that really means. Or how one would even judge that. I'm not going to be going around telling people what key they're playing in, if that's what you mean." Still, it seemed to have gotten her point across..kind of. Or at least he was derailing to something he liked talking about more.
"But you didn't tell me that, actually. I just had the impression you liked music and instruments and that was about the end of the line there. Oh, and you have massive pockets." she added, smiling into her hand again.

"Y'know, y'don't gotta hide the smile," he said gently. "If y'got somethin' in your teeth, I won't give a crap--tho I might tell you. But yeah, I know exactly what key's bein' played--an' if it's on key. It comes in handy when tunin' my guitar. I'm ninety nine point nine percent sure Terra's got it, too. But I guess, like I said already, music sort of runs in the family. What about you? Are all your family... time reapers?" he asked curiously.
You could be a time reaper and help new ghosts make a life, right? He didn't see why not!
