Sasha moved towards the indicated binders, lifting one up so that she could browse through it.
"I haven't got an artifact," she hummed softly to herself as she carefully flipped through the pages. Sasha treated the research as if it were some precious holy book - which, to her, it almost was. She knew how draining it was to sit hunched over stacks of paper, writing and erasing, working methodically over the research needed to accomplish goals.
"At this point I think the room I'm working in will suffice. Everyone leaves me alone."
She'd gained something of a reputation as a super b***h around the labs, and it was a title she planned to keep. People stayed out of her way, and she preferred it that way.
"If I need room to spread out, I might have to take you up on that offer, Melvin. It's fascinating, I admire you for the work you've put in to this project of yours."
Work was a safe topic. It was more comfortable for her.

"I hope that something can come out of it than just research. If a better bandage, barrier, or even a new runic device all together can be created in the end, I'll be content....for a little while." Then he'd want to continue improving. "I have yet to call everyone else in with their own artifacts. That's going to be a pain in the a** considering the unsavory reputation Lifers have when it comes to testing. Can't exactly put a bottle of liquor on a string and pull it along till they walk into my lab." He would have liked to do that, but he knew that the bottle would be gone before the first tug on the string.
"I like working alone in some degree, but I do like company to talk to. Do you like being alone all of the time?"

"Actually, bribes might be a good option. Find out what people like, buy it, and use it to coax them in." She shrugged, replacing the binder on the table before picking up another one.
At his question, she gave him an odd look.
"Of course not. There is a small group of people on the island that I hold very dear to me. One person in particular. I simply don't like being troubled while I'm working, unless it's Wash - he's the exception."

"Yes, you're friends with Rin. You let her stay with you when she was hurt. Is Wash your boyfriend?" He asked, setting the mug to dry and washing his hands and drying those.
Walking over, he picked up his tablet before walking over and taking out his artifact from a container. It was a blue handkerchief that seemed to swirl and move as if rippling if you looked at the fabric. It was cool to the touch, and runiced metal coins hung from the hem.
Taking it, he held it out to her. "This is my artifact. It used to be a sash, but during the runic process, all artifacts change in appearance. Don't worry. I haven't used it if that's what you're wondering." Seeing as it was a handkerchief after all.

"Mmm, yes. Rin, I haven't talked to her in some time." It was something she should rectify, Sasha mused silently, watching Melvin as he brought her a piece of fabric. It was a beautiful color, and Sasha retrieved it from his hand after his reassurance that he hadn't used it.
"It's beautiful. What does it do?"

"I've tested it a few times during sparring and not sparring. Saliva noticed that it gave her a lit bit of power in my shield. It didn't make her fire any stronger. The only thing I can conclude is that it's a brief shield and not a hugely noticeable one. However, a pocket shield is better than nothing, and if it can be replicated then just imagine if all the scarves we wear for our uniform were actually useful." He said with a smile before sitting down. It had some nasty side effects though, which he didn't want to admit to Sasha.
"It also reacts to another artifact due to the mythology behind it. So some artifacts might actually work better if they are paired up with another. I have yet to test this but I will when the other artifact user comes in." Melvin had yet to ask Rep to come in for testing. Friends or not, he doubted it would go over well.
I had to go through a lot of trouble just to get mine. The areas they are kept are very dangerous and well guarded. Even the minipets there are more like massive guards which makes me believe that the places that hold such artifacts are very rich in Fear to be able to sustain them and the guardians protecting them."
He continued. "So is Wash your boyfriend?"

Melvin was given a quizzical look, and a wry humor danced across Sasha's face.
"Yes, Melvin. Wash is my boyfriend. Significant other." She shook her head. He was more than that, and the title felt silly and immature.
If he wanted to persist with the personal questions, she could play that game.
"What about you, Melvin? Do you have a girlfriend?"
She handed the handkerchief back to him, watching him lazily.

Melvin took the handkerchief and set it down. He considered, for a moment, what Rin was right now. They hadn't exactly established what everything was between them, but considering Rin would want to maybe make it more public, he couldn't exactly dance too much. He just didn't want to say too much and let Rin handle who she told.
"I suppose. Of some sort I do." He said, picking up his tablet.
"How close are you to finishing your research? What finishing touches do you still have left, or are you hung up on anything before you present it to the dear Doctor?"

"Who?"
The island was small, and she knew it highly likely that she probably knew (or knew of) who he was seeing.
"I'd like to have it finished before I'm promoted, so that as soon as I reach my promotion I can present my work to the Doctor in order to have a prototype made. If it turns out that I need to trash the project because any single part isn't perfect, I'll need to find something else to specialize in. My interest now is golems." She shrugged.
"However, I'm very flexible and not set on any one aspect of them. My project is very much a work in progress. There are issues of durability, and I'm working on slight modifications regarding that."

"I'm leaving that up to her to tell. For now, it's private, but I'm sure that she might come around to tell you the good news." He said, not too bubbly about having the information spread around, but not terrified of it either.
"If YOU don't feel it's perfect, of if the Doctor doesn't feel it's perfect? If it's not, then you're willing to drop everything you've worked on and tested to start on something completely different from the ground up? That's...." Melvin was a bit speechless. "...very extreme." Considering any work in science was trail and error, error, more error, contemplating bashing your head against the wall, error, and then some glimmer of success to keep you going, perfection really wasn't ever really attainable until you went at it for a very long time.
"I really think that your work is impressive enough and worth pursing to ever just drop. But, if you feel you want to do that, I'm sure that whoever picks it up would find your research valuable." He just hated to think of such a project dropped so suddenly because it wasn't pristine.

There were only two women on the island that would bring Sasha such news. It couldn't be Ami. Sasha doubted that Melvin was... quite her type. That left one other person. Rin - which made perfect sense, considering how helpful Melvin had been when it came to assisting Rin shortly after the raven-haired woman had lost her arm.
Sasha merely smiled and nodded, letting the topic drop before continuing on.
"If the Doctor doesn't feel it's perfect. He's division lead, and his opinion means everything to me. And I think the whole idea has merit, and I think the Doctor will too - so long as everything is acceptable to him as far as the mechanics go. If he thinks I'm working on something without benefit to the cause, then I will find another way to contribute."
Sasha's smile grew larger, and a pleased gleam brightened her eyes.
"I appreciate your opinion. It really does mean a lot to me, especially considering your own work."

"I have...yet to really bring my own project to him aside from project approval. I hope that my own research will meet standard if his bar is set too high. I don't exactly talk to him." Melvin refrained from telling Sasha that the one time he did speak to Dr. H, the man brushed him aside. If Sasha held the Doctor's opinion in such high regard, he didn't want Sasha to then dismiss him because her dear Doctor though he wasn't worth it.
"If you have any pointers than I'd appreciate it. If anything, I'd like to show you my research when the time comes so that it meets your high standard. That is, if you don't mind. I believe you are my senior." He was petting her ego as hard as he could in hopes she would purr.

Sasha realized what was going on, but she also realized that she enjoyed the ego-stroking that was happening. Her work was something she cherished, something that kept her sane and anchored.
"I would love to help you in any way I can. Just be aware, I might need someone to test out my golems once - well, if - they're put into production."
Her grin was honest.
"If you ever need to run anything past me, don't hesitate. You do know where my little cave is now, and when I'm not sleeping or eating or ... taking a break, I'm there."
She dipped her head.
"I actually should get back to work, and let you get back to yours, as well."

"I'd be more than happy to help you test to further the success of your project. Just don't bring any sharp utensils if it goes poorly and you need to visit me in the Infirmary." He joked, and moved to the door to open it for you.
"Sorry I kept you so long. I get gabby. If you ever need the tanks or some room, my lab is open to you during the time I have it." He held it for her to leave.

"Thank you, Melvin. I promise not to bring any daggers if you ever end up in the infirmary, and I appreciate the offer of the larger space, as well."
She slipped past him, turning to offer a smile and a quick wave to the other Lifer before heading back to her little cave. She wasn't entirely sure how she felt about this sudden work-based camaraderie, but it had been nice to make a connection with someone as passionate about her duties as Melvin was about his.
