Ami grinned and pulled back. Her nails scratch lightly on his skin as her hands trailed down his arms to connect with his hands, where her fingers then intertwined with his.
"If you're going to do the shopping, then you have to do half the cleaning," she said quizzically. "Half of the laundry too. Half the repairs." She leaned a bit closer. "Half the bed."
< You shoulda made him do all of it! >
Ami internally rolled her eyes, but she tried to keep an air of seriousness about her, which fell to shambles quite quickly. "I fear I'm moving terribly quickly and it might seem a bit .... clingy." Just the idea of being a clingy girlfriend put a bad taste in her mouth, however hypocritical it might of been. She was clingy. She couldn't help it. "But ... the way I see it, we could die any day. I'd ... I'd rather see you close when ... if it happens. If you don't mind, that is." She shook her head, "Wait no, no I don't mean it just out of necessity or fear- I mean what I'm trying to say is that I want to return to your keeping or ... come home to you- and I should hope that you'd want to find me when you return too- though that's a bit imposing, I suppose. Y-You are my happiness if you want to put it in such terms." Her face was red with embarrassment; it wasn't often that she openly confessed how she felt like this. "I, what I'm trying to say ... that is ... Stay with me? I-In this house?"

It was almost bad, but Lex actually enjoyed seeing Ami struggle through her words and feelings. The struggle told him that she wanted to express her feelings in the best way she could, but those same feelings caused her to trip on herself. She was learning how to express emotion s other than just disinterest and annoyance - and he smiled at that. He gave her hands little squeezes through her short monologue, and when she'd finished he gave her a wide and joyful smile.
"Of course." He whispered, pecking her lips. Keeping one hand in hers, the Lifer turned around and began heading for the portal.
<< She actually invited you to nest with her. What did you even do? >>
--
The portal guards had given Lex a bored look when he requested one nearest a wholesale store, adjusting a few settings before mumbling something about Nebraska. They stepped through, finding themselves in a small city with enough of a population to warrant a Costco. He smiled, and led her into the store to buy a plethora of foods.

That was it? How in the hell was Lex able to simply agree like that? What demon had he sold his soul to in order to speak so freely and simply?! She sighed and followed him towards the portal, gripping his hand fiercely.
"You're such a pain," was all that was muttered. "So have I ever told you I've never been to Costco..."
---
After shopping, Ami immediately had a new appreciation for her own personal space. Having been separated from Lex twice, pushed over by some people while she was reading labels, and nearly pummeled when simply picking out the bread she wanted, Ami was 100% done with costco. By the end of it she found herself clinging to Lex's arm with an incredibly sour look on her face.
"Never again. I hate that place. That place was terrible and we are never returning." Ami looked very much like a cat that had been pet backwards. "As soon as we put these groceries away I want to head straight for the beach"

In hindsight, Lex should have remembered that Costco was never, ever, ever in any circumstance a good place to go on a Friday. Apparently even in Nebraska everyone and their mothers decided to wait until Friday to do their bulk shopping. Poor Ami had nearly drowned in a sea of people, whereas Lex was able to plow through them like some sort of ruggedly attractive steam ship. Next time, they'd just go to a neighborhood market.
"My bad, my bad." He grunted, rubbing the back of his neck. "And of course - are you actually going to swim this time?" He gave a little wink, nudging her with his elbow while putting a case of beans away. Not like he hadn't seen her figure already...

"We'll see," she said vaguely. If it was the beach of Deus again, probably not. "As long as we don't see anyone we know here on Deus."
She reached up on her tip toes, putting away more jars than she knew what to do with. A scoff escaped her. "I don't think I've had this much food here on Deus ... ever." When she'd been in her dorm, there was nowhere to keep her food and after moving in the house she just didn't have the money for it. "It's a good thing we can cook."
She gestured Lex towards the door, gently touching his arm. "Go get your beachwear. I can do this on my own."

Grinning just a tad lewdly, Lex gave Ami a peck to the top of her head before heading out the door and to his dorm - which he'd have to tell someone he was moving out of and pack and holy crud that would be a bit of work - to change into more suitable beach attire. Of course, he brought along a little knapsack with his boardhorts, tanning lotion, and some extra sunscreen for Ami. God knew that woman was pale as milk, but it suited her.
Still, he didn't want a burned and achey girlfriend on his hands.
Suddenly, there was a light beeping and ticking. Perplexed, the man located the source - his wrist. Oh...oh s**t. He cursed mildly under his breath, getiing the deadly bangle off and tossing it in the corner of his room, away from the closet, and dive rolled out of the dorm. BOOM. The hallway shook and several head poked out, with Lex giving them an apologetic look and shrug. They shook their heads but let it be. Looking back in quickly, he was glad to see that his clothes made it out okay. Everything else? It was a good thing he'd never live in the dorm again.
Knocking on the door of the house again, he waited for said girlfriend to show. Finally - the Carribean.

Ami, on the other hand, had reclined to her living room couch after putting everything away, and changing for the second time that day. Lex's jacket had been folded neatly and put away on her dresser, whereas she herself had changed into something for the beach. Unlike Lex, she only owned one bathing suit. After all, there weren't exactly many opportunities to go casually swimming- why would she need more than one.
When Lex returned, he'd find Ami lounging with- surprise- a book. Her expression lightened as he came in the room. "Well doesn't my man look handsome," she cooed, gesturing he come and sit with her. There was no rush to get out the door after all. Even if they left here at midnight, portals had wibbly wobbly timey wimey physics. It could have been afternoon in the carribean.

"No soot?" He smiled, turning around for her to check him for any ash. She probably had no clue what on earth he was talking about, so he held out his wrist for her own examination. "The stupid bracelet came off - and blew up a good chunk of my old room. I kept it away from the closet though." He smiled at that, sitting into the couch and looping an arm around her waist as she read, searching her little coffee table for something that he could read while she got lost in whatever world.
Pulling up a small book of short stories, he flipped open to a random page and back tracked to the start of the story.

Ami tilted her head curiously, trying to hide the fact that her heart may or may not have skipped a beat at the idea of an "old" room. Meaning her own house was his new room.
When he sat down, Ami gently brushed his shoulder off, setting her book down for a moment. "It imploded?" Ami said worriedly. "That could've been you dammit."
She sighed, picking up her book and nudging him against the edge of the couch so she could lay on his chest. "So should I call Marcus to help move your things," she asked, "Or maybe Dakota?" There was something teasing in her voice. Dakota was definitely the last person she'd call.

Running his fingers through her rarely loose hair, Lex gave a grin to Ami before his mouth flat lined at the mention of Dakota. No, never Dakota. Dakota would probably set his best suit on fire just to spite him. No thanks, not today. His next paycheck was already going towards groceries and fixing of his old dorm. Well...that would probably take a lot. He should have thrown the stupid bracelet out the window. "It's just clothes and some personal affects, love." He flipped a page, chuckling at a particular line. This author was quite the witty one. "I can fit it all in one box now - thanks to the Princess' bracelet."
A few more lines of reading, and he sighed a little. The bracelet thing had shaken him a little. "I hope everyone else made it out of that okay..." He mainly thought of Nevada, Eva, and by extension Gale. Gale would be fine - he was trained for sudden thing like that. Eva and Nevada though...what if the Mist had been napping? What if Eva had been trying to bake something and got lost in the process? He bit his lip in light worry, making a silent prayer that they were okay.

Ami was silently alarmed that that much of his room had been destroyed. Honestly she didn't care much about the others- she couldn't even remember who had bracelets besides Lex- but it was still a scary thought that anyone could be blown up. She squeezed him lightly as a sign of solidarity.
"I'm sure they'll be fine," she assured him. "If not it ... it's our line of business." It was a shitty reply, but it was a legitimate one.
She looked up at him, reaching down to pull his hand closer, thumb running over the embarrassing tan line the bracelet had made. "Are you okay?"

Grumbling a little as he stroked her hair, Lex put down the book and sighed again. She was right, dying was their line of work, but "We shouldn't be killed by our own. Especially not our leaders." His face scrunched up a little, disdain quite obvious on his features. He couldn't read when so upset and unsettled.
"I'll be fine." He finally settled, content to just stroke Ami's hair while she read. They had time to waste, the beach would always be there. "Just don't die on me."

Ami was satiated just laying there, soaking in what little time she had with Lex. She could feel his discomfort, but she couldn't empathize with his sympathies. She felt nothing at the leaders' potential betrayal. As long as it wasn't her or Lex.
She quietly turned a page. "You know I can't guarantee that," she murmured darkly. "Don't make me promise something I can't fulfill."

A sad smile shaped Lex's face as he pressed a kiss to Ami's forehead. He knew that she couldn't guarantee that, and he knew he couldn't promise her his life either. They were in a dangerous business, and life could be taken any second. He'd just have to enjoy their time while it lasted. "Sorry, I won't impose the impossible on you." He murmured, sighing in satisfaction. If only every day were like this...

Seeing that she'd made Lex feel just as gloomy as she did on the inside, Ami leaned forward and said, "I can at least promise it won't be intentional."
That was the best she could do. "You know I don't think I've ever seen you clean shaven," she mentioned, attempting to change the subject.
