He had left her very briefly only a few minuets before. It had been his human partner that had come to wake him to remind him that his visitor would be thirsty and hungry when she woke up so they'd walked together to the steam. It had been she that had placed the yolk on his back that allowed him to carry multiple buckets back and forth between the village. It required human hands to help him load it but he could get it off easy enough without them. On it she had balanced thee buckets of water and a bucket of apples. She'd told him that she'd bring grass hay in a little bit and then smacked his rump to send him back.
He arrived back when Sohalia began to stir. She was trying to get up and he wuffled a no as he walked closer. "You can't escape just yet. I brought breakfast and water."

Sohalia was always slightly cranky in the morning, and her raging thirst wasn't helping matters. She was on edge before he entered, and the unusual sounds his approach made didn't help matters but she attempted to calm herself after the realisation that she could still not properly put weight on the hoof meant that leaving would be at a hobble's pace.
'I know, I can smell it, and hear it.'
She had caught the scent of both food and water as he entered, the water sloshing around in the buckets. It was a welcome sound to hear, and so was he, for all that she still wasn't sure of him. Or of herself around him for that matter. She knew she would have to monitor her thought patterns, and try to modify her behaviour so that she could accept all that he was doing to help.
It would be hard though.

When she spoke, he frowned but continued to walk forward, then stop a few feet away from her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. Perhaps I don't notice how much noise the yolk makes anymore. It makes getting water and moving supplies around the village much quicker so we use it often." With apparent grace he lowered himself to his fore-knees and slipped the yolk down his back and off his neck onto the ground. He knew how to place it to not spill from lots of practice. When it was off he got back to his feet then grabbed a loop of rope attached to the top of the yolk with his teeth and wiggled the buckets free. He placed the contraption a few feet off then returned to grab and place first a bucket of water and then the bucket of apples in front of Sohalia.
We wasn't hungry and had drank his fill at the stream so he stepped back to the buckets to offer them when or if she was ready for them. "I know you're not used to the village and human made things and I'm sorry to scare you. I really don't think about it. I've lived here my entire life and being useful is just part of being a village soquili. Everyone does their part. Mine is being a loveable packhorse sometimes."

'Well, I can't drink and eat when I'm asleep, so I'm not upset with you.' Sohalia replied, her voice cracking a little from her dry throat and she coughed, trying to clear it.
She watched as removed the contraption he was using to carry the food and drink around, doing so with a practiced ease that showed it wasn't the first time he had used it.
'Thank you..' she said, first taking a long drink and then slicing a few bites from the nearest apple she could reach without moving too far from her prone position.
'I'm not good at trusting individuals, so coming here meant putting my trust in you as a representative of everyone here. And it was hard - and I'm still not entirely sure I succeeded, but I am trying. Every small thing you do..it helps, it really does.' she looked up at him.
'Lovable eh? I suppose..I can see that.' she looked away again, not sure why she had said that but she was feeling a touch more comfortable and a little less stressed, so she was able to unearth the side of her that had allowed her to find a mate and have a family.

His eyebrows winged as he watched and listened to her. The Ice Queen seemed to be melting a bit and he was surprised. Far more surprised than he should have been. We had been prepared to have few more fights with her before she trusted him enough to admit he was right in bringing her here. He wanted to be nothing but chivalrous to all ladies but he was smart enough to recognize a stubborn mare and know that nothing but stubbornness of his own and even more kindness than usual would get though.
"Thank you. I'm glad that your are less wary. Your perfectly safe here. I want your to know that. The healer will be around later to look you over and my mistress will soon arrive with hay. I might be called to do other things about the village, but I won't be far. You should rest for the next days. It shouldn't take long to get back on your feet if you don't strain yourself and just let me and Ehawee take care of you."CitrusCupcake I have no good excuse....that last few months have been...I'm so sorry. I'm feel better. I want to finish this. Shouldn't take much more.

Logically she knew that he was right; so far there had been little cause for alarm and everything had been as he said it would be. But when was fear logical? The thought of the stallion being away from her side (whilst she was awake enough to realise he wasn't there at any rate) set her heart going faster in her chest, and her ears flattened, her tail giving a few flicks.
"You'll be here though when the healer, your mistress comes around. Please?" she pushed a pleading note into her voice, looking up at him.
"I know, rest is what I need. But I still wish for you to be here until I can move around on my own." Sohalia sighed a little, hearing the dependence in her words, not knowing what to think of herself. It was as if the walls had just waited for her to be incapacitated before crumbling, leaving her both fragile and exposed.
"It's a selfish thing to ask, I'm sure you think me demanding on top of everything else, but you said you stay with me, and that's the only reason I've begun to feel safe." Roarie Desu No worries, been slow myself

She was still scared. Of what he really could not fathom. Being raised a village horse he really had no clue. To his mind, humans were much more caring, considerate, kind and loving that even other Soquili. They had their drawbacks and oddities, he knew that, but they were not kalona or skinwalker. There was no brutality in them.
Yesterday he'd helped the old woman in their village that crafted the Soquili baskets required to seal away young. Their local Basket Shrine was deep in the forest a few miles from the village and their weaver and shamaness helped to keep in well stocked. To him this was the single most telling fact about humans and their. kindness. Why they should be trusted. Without the Kiwani the Soquili simply would not survive. And the villagers knew this, even knew they might be supplying a nefarious soq with their needed baskets and still did it anyway. Out of respect and love.
He shook his head and wuffle huffed a noncommittal response. "If you truly wish me to stay close, I can. I could spend all day telling you why you will come to no harm, but I doubt it will do any good. If I do stay close, be aware that the villagers, Ehawee, her children and her husband will be around and might come to find me. The children love to play with me in the afternoons. Wee's daughter has been learning to ride and trying to convince her mother to give her a Soquili companion of her very own. Hard to explain to a five year old human that Soquili baskets don't just drop out of the sky. I'm the only horse in the village currently." Quietly he got closer again to pick up the bucket of apples and then upend it closer to her head before retreating again. "I don't think your demanding. But my job here can be. Don't be surprised if they ask me to do it. I'll be able to hear you from anywhere in the village if you need me."CitrusCupcake Do you have a way to talk to me outside gaia? We probably should find a way. At least so I can explain why plotting with me has been like pulling teeth lately.

"You could spend all year doing so.." she replied, stifling a yawn as she was feeling a little sleepy again. She wasn't sure she was very tired but she couldn't go for a walk in the fresh air to wake herself and the food and warm air of the shelter was making her drowsy once again.
She moved the apple pile to one side, the scent of the fruit tempting her again and nibbled at another, catching the juice with her tongue. They were good apples, and she couldn't remember when she'd last enjoyed one. She couldn't remember when she'd last enjoyed anything if she was honest with herself.
"Some day I might find it in myself to tell you why I am so distrustful. If you can put up with me long enough to wait for that day though." Sohalia said with a sideways glance. Roarie Desu Honestly no, I have AIM but I so rarely get on it there's no point me giving you my SN XD If you need to speak to me can always PM me - anyhoo, I think we can start wrapping this up
