Snorting lightly, Lex shook his head with a dissatisfied grunt at Regal. "No, the only thing he really cares for is dominance, be it on the battlefield or over me in general. He says it's Gryphon culture to want to be on top, the Alpha as he puts it." He sighed, feeling sorely tempted to rest his head atop Ami's, but they weren't even a couple. She was leaning into him, and he'd let that be that for the moment. No need to rush into things, right?
"Though, I suppose that's what you get when combining a lion and an eagle; a mass of pride and far too much ego. Something tells me he was a teenager when captured." The cocky ruler of the school type of teenager, who absolutely no one liked but everyone listened to because he could mutilate them. That's definitely what Lex imagined Regal as.
"I guess you and Junpei are different, too?"

"I'd take that as a compliment," she said, rolling her eyes. "You think a big of an ego is an issue, but you haven't walked into the gym showers with a high school freshman." It was a daily struggle, honestly.
She didn't say anything for a moment, contemplating her actions. Here she was, holding hands with a man she was only getting to know, eons away from Adam, yet she still felt a lingering guiltiness. Even she couldn't deny now that she was attracted to Lex, and yet ...
"We should head back soon," she said quietly, looking out at the horizon. It was still daytime, but the sun was getting lower and the idea of night shifts still loomed in the future."It's too bad we didn't get to go swimming."

Well, there was that issue. A light smirk crossed his face, confident that Regal had never said anything while he was in the showers. Well, nothing about him anyway. Even the Gryphon could appreciate some things.
A small frown creased his lips when Ami mentioned going back soon. Right, they still had work to do; typing and researching and dissecting and drinking coffee. Oh, and avoiding some of the techs of course. A heavy sigh welled up in his chest, but an idea hit him in the head like a club.
"Oh, c'mon, just a quick dip." Lex winked, letting go of her hand to strip himself of his shirt and make a running dash for the water.

His hand left hers, and Ami stared in horror as he began to strip, even going so far as to wink at her. What was he doing? Why was he-
Swimming. Oh. Okay.
Lex took off for the water, but Ami didn't follow after. "L-Lex!" was lost in the splash as he hit the water. Her own stubbornness kept her from streaking in after him. "Lex come back here right now. There's probably some sort of- of- I don't know, life lab specimen kept in there! Or it's poisoned to keep away monsters or-"
There might have been a little stomp somewhere in there. "LEX."

What would Ami's characters say right now? Methinks the lady doth protest too much? Yeah, something along those lines. He gave a mockingly exasperated groan and swam back to shore, grinning like a fool. He would have to shower after that, though...
A shrug, and Lex picked up his shirt, hoping to keep it as dry as possible. "Oh, fine, but you owe me snorkeling in the Caribbean." He teased, nudging her arm lightly with an elbow, and then slipping his hand right back into hers.
"Another day, another dollar. Or, I guess in this case it would be another hour."

Ami looked down as he returned to her side, barely acknowledging the return of his hand. "I was just worried for your safety, that's all," she mumbled, not admitting to herself the real reason she didn't want to go out there. It was embarrassing revealing your entire body like that, unless there were other ... circumstances.
"Mmm, we have a ways to walk back though. I'm sure you could dry off by then," she said with a snicker, resuming their pace back towards the rock. "We walked a lot farther than it seemedt." A squint, and she realized she couldn't even see the tree they'd set the coolr under. "I hope we make it back in time ..."
Her head knocked against his arm. "I suppose there's time for a few more questions though. I think it was your turn."

Squeezing her dainty hand with a smile and a chuckle, Lex shook his head. It was okay, he understood she was concerned - and she was probably right. You never did know what Life techs did with their failed experiments. Or their current ones, for that matter.
"We will." He reassured, falling into his normal easy strides. He enjoyed this time, it was certainly different from a club or a bedroom. Dating could be fun; who knew.
"Hmm...what was your favorite meal as a kid?" A simple question, but it opened a plethora of paths for their conversation to go down.

"Mmmm ... when I was little I liked anything with fudge," she admitted. "I was kind of a pudgy kid." She blinked a few times and then said, "You're not allowed to tell anyone that."
Ami nudged his side. "You?"

Lex had to snicker a small bit, imagining Ami as being chubby. She was no less the cuter, he thought, and weren't most kids a little chubby anyway? Well...he actually wasn't; but that was when his parents were still together, and they were on this big health kick. Probably why he looked the way he did, genetics aside.
A small hum as he pondered, and a bright smile. "Sometimes, my dad would take me to the casinos for dinner when my mother was too busy to cook. I always loved the big buffets; but the make your own pizza was my favorite." He piled bacon and chicken and tons of pineapple on his pizzas, and gave the man working the place a big grin. He was irresistible even as a child.
"Your question, I believe."

"Don't laugh!" she squeaked, giving his arm a little slap. A blustery sigh, and she muttered, "I shouldn't have said anything"
The downcast attitude quickly shifted to amusement at the idea of a tinier Lex. Honestly she couldn't picture anything that didn't have his scruffy little rat of a beard, so it summed up to a twelve year old with 5 o clock shadow. She noted the mention of a father, as well. She'd heard tons about this boss of a mother, but not a whisper of a father until now. "Pizza? Really? Dream a little bigger Lex..." she commented, almost scolding the younger version of himself.
"I don't know if there's anything else I need to know," she continued whimsically, hand on her chin. "Metalhead, rash swimmer, pizza lover- what else is there?" She thought for a moment and said, "Okay, favorite book." Before he could scoff, she quickly added, "It's important!"

"What? In my defense, my mother cooked quinoa and artichokes and all the healthy stuff; pizza was a rare treat, okay?" He chortled, acting hurt by her little slap. He knew it wasn't the most out there thing, but man did that pizza taste good.
Favorite book? Oh, well...that was tough. Lex honestly didn't read much before Deus, but he'd always been a fan of mystery and murder mysteries, if he ever picked a book up. He liked adventure, too, but Ami already knew which book he was reading at the moment.
"Alright, but don't judge." He smiled, a little nervous. It was a children's series, after all. "I've always enjoyed the Hardy Boys books..."

So his mother was his boss, on top of his chef. The more he talked about her, Ami couldn't help but feel a bit of mama's boy in him. It didn't match up with his expression though, the strange cold look in his eyes that clashed with his casual smile. If anything, Ami could conclude that Lex's family life continued to be an enigma.
He announced his love of the Hardy Boys and Ami gave a little giggle. "I tried reading the Nancy Drew books, but she was just so stupid. The clues were so obvious." The Hardy Boys though ... It was oddly characteristic.
Now she could see the tree in the distance, and a sinking feeling notified her that their date was soon going to be over. She looked down at their hands, feeling depressed at having to let it go. She gave it a light squeeze and said, "Lex I ... Thank you for today. You ..." Her voice sputtered out as she tried to think of how she wanted to convey what she was trying to say. "Do you think ... we ... could ... try ... dating?" The last word came out as a whisper, one that she hadn't expected to say at all. This was supposed to be a one time thing for fun.
Suddenly the hand wrapped around hers felt like a leash. These were real feelings, and she found herself asking to be tied to a person, even though she'd clearly conveyed to Lex before that that was the last thing she wanted.

There were certain words Lex refrained from saying, even mentally. Words that carried a lot of weight, and could possibly hurt or rebuild himself. Words that, when used the right way, could convey so many emotions that he tried to keep buried, in denial. Sometimes, those words slipped through his mental ******** was asking to date him? Hadn't she been apprehensive about tying herself up with someone? Was she just on the rebound? No, it was far too long a time period for the rebound. That meant she actually enjoyed his company and had actual feelings for him - feelings he wasn't sure if he could reciprocate.
Ami was, admittedly, beautiful. Physically yes, but mentally as well. She had a good head on her shoulders, though she was a recluse and could be easily grumpy. She had brains though, and a good level head. She thought logically and dear Lord when she actually smiled it was ethereal.
Her words were like knives digging into his flesh, trying to pry an answer out of him. Her eyes were a cage, her hand a baton. Could he commit?
"I'd enjoy ******** smiled, squeezing her hand lightly. His body was doing its own thing now, walking them back to the rock and making chitchat. Inwardly he was screaming and panicking, befuddled by what he'd just done. What if he hurt her? What if he got bored? He hadn't dated in years, and it always ended within a few months.

Silence stabbed at her, old daggers she thought she'd set down coming back to slice her in the static seconds between her inquiry and Lex's answer. Insecurities built up, asking questions and screaming for answers. Was she being led on by this date? Perhaps she was rushing into things too quickly. It was probably her fault. It wasn't Lex's if he didn't feel for her.
The words sunk into her slowly, paralleling the slow smile that spread across her face. The squeeze on her hand made her bury her nose in Lex's arm. She chose not to say anything, for fear that she'd somehow embarrass herself with sputtering and stammering. That, and there wasn't much that needed to be said. She didn't want professions of love and dedication, it would've made her uncomfortable. She just wanted someone who was willing to say they wouldn't give up on her, and Lex had just said not only that, but he'd enjoy it.
She was happy.
By the time the made it back to the cooler, the sun had begun to set. "Ah ... Do we tell others? I wouldn't mind as I am ... not ashamed of the action, but I worry about some individuals." A somewhat morose look came across her. Solia and Madeline, namely. Dear God.

He was still screaming at himself, banging against the walls of his mind with two trembling fists. What the hell did he even think he was doing? Commitment? The word was foreign and tasted odd, like when a person first tries eating wasabi. He felt like an idiot, a bumbling fool who made impulse decisions based on his feelings. So much for being the smooth operator.
"Mmm...I'd say we only tell close friends. No shame on my end either." He smiled, stretching his arms out as he looked back towards Deus. He had...well, he didn't have to tell the girls he was trying to be faithful. Moreover, he didn't have to tell Solia about it unless she came to his room; otherwise she'd gush all over the place. Private was better; if they ended up not working out, there would be less backlash.
"Off to work now, I suppose. Thanks again for the day, and the food."
