Face your demons

"Honestly if people had the time to stop and seriously consider things I would have been..." He flickered his fingers in nervous gestures that were hard to assign to any particular behavior, save nerves. "Deeply surprised. One rarely finds themselves anticipating and preparing for the collapse of everything with which they're familiar."

They'd just lost everything, after all, who was he to begrudge someone for forgetting bandages, or wares, or anything else, while preserving their continued existence?

"A little... routine couldn't go wrong." He agreed. Stick to their routines. It was a start, flashing a thin lipped smile at Harland as he followed his companion over, the gesture making him look more bird like.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 22, 2013 4:47 pm

Crying and tears were as foreign to him as friendship; something he never had. Already his mind was concocting ways to be more prepared for any other unfortunate miss happens that might occur. Though he could not organize for everything... he could at least be a little more aware of the basic's now. Their home had destroyed... who knew if it would happen again somewhere else...

He was drawn out from his heavy mull by the clap to his shoulder, causing the smaller man to twitch his wings a few times again, not used to such a gesture. In fact, it took him a moment to gain reference from it, recalling the few instances he'd seen it happen between others he just happened to glance at while in the market. Ah. A means of greeting. Those eerie eyes of his slid up to Crispin's to meet his gaze, hardly blinking as he studied the other man, the falter in his tone causing for some sort of interest to pique. Which made him internally question the same sort of issue that Harland would ask aloud later on. Keeping a neutral expression though, he gave a small bow of his head, white bangs shifting subtly in the movement, "I am Vaska. And yes, I concur. As a group we will be much stronger, and our abilities, and strengths combined." it was pleasing to hear another with the same sort of idea that he had. In such an uncertain time, it was best to stick to your comrades... even if you didn't know them.

The thick fluffy stole that rest between the bends of his elbows was drawn further up his arms a little, and hugged around his petite frame as his arms crossed comfortably over his chest. Just as Harland was relieved, so was he. Someone had come prepared! And.. had a very good idea. Glancing down at his own clothing, of thick fabric, and the dagger he had grabbed before leaving. His own large sword had been left behind... one he'd used for quite a few years. But he didn't dwell. What was gone, was gone. He had to move forward. "If we run out of bandages, I can lend my clothing." he offered without hesitation. After all, the well being of another was far more important than covering flesh. Looking back the the other hunter whom he'd been conversing with, he shook his head in response to Harland, "No, I've just met him moments prior to our home falling. He was at my stall in the market." he replied frankly. Perhaps some might consider it a little harsh declining friendship with someone, but... Vaska was truthful, and didn't really hold much grace in social situations.

With the attention veered back to Crispin Vaska too looked over the other man for any sort of injuries that may give sign of something more worrisome than bruising. But hew as intrigued by Harland and the way he dealt with the issue, slowly letting his gaze slip back to him. Perhaps it might not have been his place, but he spoke up to back up the concerned gent, "Yes, if you are hurt somewhere within, it is best to see to the injury straight away. Waiting can only make it worse." he tacked on even as Harland had finished. If there was something serious going on... they'd need to get to the king sooner than later.

The mention of their home caused those flashes of images to appear back into Vaska's mind, icy iris' aimed to the ground. "This is our home now." he murmured. In all honesty, he couldn't see himself living a life here. It was all so very foreign and dreary. But he was no complainer. He was alive, after all. That was something to be grateful for. And with Harlands declaration, Vaska couldn't help but give the man a look that, though still maintaining the same composed features, held a glint of respect in his sharp glowers. "Yes. We are from the Silver kingdom, after all. We are made for adaptation. I believe if we keep together, that we will be able to find our places in this new kingdom." though he didn't manage a smile like the other had, his tone was held with determination and was decisive.

Hearing the voice of the king made him turn his head, the long, sleek white ponytail slipping over his shoulder, the skull charm at the end bobbing lightly as it dangled. Soon the rest of his body turned to face the man in charge, in preparation to approach, but not before glancing back to the others to make sure they were all ready to make their way to their new ruler.

"A hug?" a nervous laugh bubbled up, and Crispin shook his head, trying to get a hold on himself. His entire home, and everyone he had ever known-- his brothers, his family, his livelihood, his king-- everything was gone. He'd been helpless to do a single thing. What had all that information gathering been for? What had he, as an ambassador, really done, if it had all amounted to nothing?

Crispin glanced up, noticing that Sir Huxley had actually begun to move away to perform his duty, a phantom something flickering behind him, like a wisp of smoke. Crispin blinked. He really was stressed -- now he was seeing things, as well? And Alastair was putting duty far before his own silly emotions! Why couldn't Crispin manage to do the same? He didn't like feeling so fragile.

He rubbed wearily at his eyes. "I appreciate the concern, Harland, Vaska. I'm well. I merely meant that I'm a bit emotionally shaken from our ordeal."

Crispin glanced around from face to tired face. Now was the time for duty, before they each fell to pieces. For some purpose, each of them had lived, and were still alive, even if their kingdom was gone. He nodded, appreciating Harland's words, and gave Vaska a clap on the shoulder again before moving away, to follow Alastair.

I did hear someone speak about presents? Let's have a look around at the citizens... they all seem to be gathered here for some purpose, which is strange.

The Gatekeeper had known her name, had told her he was expecting things from her and sounded so powerful and confident. A box had been given to her with a key inside, something amazing in more ways than she could describe, but when she opened her mouth nothing came out to reply to his praise.

Did she not know how to speak? She knew words; they danced on the tip of her tongue like couples in a ballroom. They buzzed through her head and echoed about her ears like hollowed flies attempting crazy patterns. Temes wanted to raise her voice and thank him so badly, raise her hands towards him and somehow show him that she understood what he'd said to her. All she could do instead was bitterly bite at her lip with those alien teeth and press her unwelcome fingers into the ground. Eventually she would need to stand, she'd need to press herself upward, but for the moment it seemed like the pity and anger she held to herself would keep the small body rooted to the ground

Like a weed perhaps, or a tombstone. Either would be fitting in this area and yet neither one was something she could become.

Temes should have stayed there and contemplated what she could become when she heard someone talking to her. It was not the Gatekeeper, she did not know them, and she opened her mouth to speak but closed it again once the fear of being unable to make noise set in. It was only when the person asked her something in a word that pushed itself to the front of her mouth that she tried again.

". . . . . help." The word was so hushed it felt like nothing was speaking. Perhaps she hadn't said anything at all and it was merely a strange breeze or incorporeal figure playing tricks on everyone's minds. "Help." She said it again and there would be no mistake. Clawed hands on arms of paper-covered skin raised up in the direction, a key resting every so delicately on the palm of one of them. It felt so heavy - was that the weight of something important? It took was feeling like something she should now and understand but at the back of her mind a small voice told her to forget.

There were others around too, newcomers who spoke only among themselves, and the little girl turned her blazing red eyes in their direction. She motioned to them, perhaps, or else she might have been trying to stand once more.

Tomoko just stared at Thack with a mixture of shock and horror and couldn't actually bring herself to take the key from him. Instead, she made a rather distressed sounding noise.

Sherry had watched as the Gatekeeper began to move among them, speaking to each, and giving them their very own key. He said the nicest things, and she thought again about how much he believed in each and every one of them. He was too kind.

A fact that the warmth he showed to her only reiterated. “I can do that,” she replied with barest hint of a nod. She watched with a sort of reverence as she placed a key on her box. “I can, and I will.”

One hand moved to close over the key, holding it tightly to her box. The Gatekeeper had such faith in her. His faith in her only helped to further establish her faith in herself. She could, and would, do whatever was needed of her. She swore that much to herself.

As she moved back, making room for the rest of the gathering to have their moment with the Gatekeeper, Sherry’s fingers traced the edges of the key she’d been given. Another gift to cherish. And a responsibility, a promise, on her part. Her eyes scanned the party, watching as many began to speak to one another. She didn’t know what was coming, but she knew her job. Not to give up, and help others to do the same. She would do her best to help them, each and every one.

The silence that hung over the girl was not cause for alarm initially. It was akin to the silence of the world around them, silence of the dead and such. Even seeing her mouth open and close only had Agsil tilting her head slightly. Waiting. Had she been too forward? Was she crossing a line? But the girl's mouth opened again, and this time... something emerged. Soft, more a breath than a word to her ears. The third time's the charm. Though she almost wish she'd misheard her.

Help. It almost amazed her how sad one word could make her feel. As the slender hands reached up, the dark haired girl knelt down closer to the smaller one. She kept her smile warm, voice soft. Could a wrong breath hurt this child? Or was... was she simply so new? Agsil no longer remembered exactly how she'd been upon awakening. "Of course." Reaching over to the gift set beside the girl, she plucked the ribbon easily from the box.

It occurred to her she could use one of her bangle to do exactly what she'd done with her own key, but one look at how thin her wrists and hands were told her it wouldn't be that effective. The bracelet could likely slip right off. "Just use this..." Taking the key held out to her, she quickly tied one end of the ribbon to the precious thing. "And now just tie it to you..." She used only the lightest of touches to wrap the other end of the ribbon around her wrist, taking care not to leave too much excess between her limb and the key. "There. That's not too tight, is it?"

A light n** to her lip. She could speak. Sort of. Perhaps she simply needed to do it more, get accustomed to it? "I am Agsilved-- Agsil. Can you... tell me your name?" Surely she knew that from the guide.

Erebus could not help but smile; amused by Thackery's playful actions. And there it was again, a hint, a sense of strange nostalgia, which was properly shelved as he bowed respectfully before taking the key handed to him. "Thank you, my King." The key was cool in his palm and though it was a strange and unfamiliar shape to him, he closed his fingers over it with determination. His King had trusted him with a responsibility and Erebus was ready to carry that responsibility out.

When Thackery addressed Tomoko, he glanced sideways at her, expecting her to receive her gift as she did. However, the maiden looked more terrified than expecting, and he moved to pat her comfortingly on the back. "It's alright. We're all in this together." He told her in a hushed tone, head tilting towards the key offered to her.

As if out of unknown habit, Tomoko actually seemed to lean into Erebus as he spoke, giving him a brief moment of shy eye-contact before she cautiously reached out towards the Bishop's key, barely able to touch it before she retracted her hand again.

She did this two more times before she finally took it. The ground suddenly seemed very interesting.

Though Tomoko hesitated in taking her key, Thackery seemed no less enthused to grant it to her.

"That is yours," he reminded her. "It's meant for you for a reason!" He urged it towards her again, gently, casting a grateful smile to Erebus when he spoke to encourage her too.

"Dont be such a downer, Henry." The man mused with a smile as he lowered his arm to give the other man a back rub. "Change is definately coming, else we would not be standing here. But you see while we should be ready, we should not worry too much. It causes wrinkles, you know." Remi added the last touch with a slightly laugh, but if Henry was watching he would have seen the fox's eyes narrow just a smidge as he watched and waited. He was worried, but you see his job was to de-stress environments, not to stir them up.

Then their king started to call to them, one by one they were to greet their king. Remi gave Henry a little push on the back when his name was called, glancing away with a knowing smirk.

Though as his own name was called, he turned and listened with interest. His heart rate had risen, a sudden lead balloon inflating in his gut. As the key was presented to him, along with Thackerys words, tension flowed from his limbs as he gladly accepted the object cupped between his hands. Oh, and he also leaned over and gripped the man in a rather tight embrace as well. "You know i wont let you down." He whispered, planted a soft kiss on his head, before letting go. Grabbing his hand and giving it a friendly squeeze, he fully let go and started to walk away from their king. Thackery had others to attend to now, Remi knew that, so it was his time to step away and to mingle once more.

A few sounds noted that more had entered into the kingdom, quite a few more actually. Hm... He wanted to go greet these few, he did take it upon himself to talk to everyone after all...

"Oh!" He exclaimed suddenly, his tails bristling up, similar in action to a feline, as he felt something randomly launch at them. "Mymy, Well hello there little one!" He did not move just yet, only peer around at the boy whom ran in to him.

Rikki gave his king a sheepish smile as he accepted the key. He knew that his strength wasn't exactly nothing, but it didn't seem like much in comparison to what some of the others could offer. But he'd flourish in his king's trust and wield that strength like a sword.

A stray ribbon made a good anchor for his key, and he tied it off in a bow to the chains cinching his clothes. That kept it close and easy to get to, which was a security blanket in itself. He startled slightly as the hand landed on his shoulder, turning to look at the woman who spoke. "Oh, I'm positive we could make it fun. Entertainment is never hard to come by," he replied, grinning at her in acceptance. It wouldn't be a bad idea to stick close to someone who seemed so optimistic.

He followed her towards the smaller woman, curious still, but sat quiet as they fussed with the keys. His heart constricted a little and he hummed encouragingly as Agsil gave her name. "And I'm Rikki."

Whether or not he was contented or discontented with receiving his key was beyond anyone - the feline man watching the King momentarily with a straight face as he looked down at the key in his hand. It was still a very big role to take, one that he would take to heart.

Extending his cloaked arm, he picked the key up daintily, pocketting it somewhere safe, near his hear, and the ugly scar that he came to this world with, nodding and bowing down to the Gatekeeper again.

"I will not waste this oportunity, you have my word." He stated, looking behind him at the men he had known and cared for in the time he had been there, giving Remi a warm smile, and wandering towards the one known as Sparrow, giving him a soft look.

"Brothers in arm, right?" He offered, giving him a nod.

Erintis bowed her head and accepted her key graciously. She honestly was happier with the fact thst she wasn't actively pushed out for all to follow.

She pulled back in to the crowd wondering what might be happening to the kingdom. Mentally making notes on what would be needed incase a battle broke out.
