"What-" He tried not to fidget as she started to measure a shirt on him. Surely she wasn't going to- And then she added another to the pile.
No.
He only stared at the two new shirts she added to her pile. GUY shirts.
"You'd better be buying those to wear yourself. I'm not a kid, you know. Stop trying to buy stuff for me."

"Um." She looked down at her, then back at him. "I don't know if they'd fit right." So yes, they were for you, Jake. She began shifting her pile back to one arm. "I'm not trying to treat you like a kid. I mean, it is Christmas time, and I know my bank account has more in it than yours. But," pile shifted, she grabbed the two shirts with her now free hand, "if you'll buy them, you can take them." She held the shirts out to him.
"And...unless you wanna look around in here more, maybe we should check out. There are still a lot of stores we can hit."

Jake took the shirts... and put them back on the racks. "I have what I need." And even then, he didn't really NEED them.
"Yes, let's go." he replied, ushering her towards the check-out line. If he stopped, he knew she would only end up adding the shirts back to her own pile, and nope, not letting that happen. That and... he had the strangest desire to shop... more. It was so weird.

Sherry scowled. Really, Jake? "No, I think--" She decided it might be best to not argue. With a resigned sigh she let herself be ushered to the counter, where she payed for her stuff and tossed a few light-hearted scowls at Jake.
"Okay," she said as they stepped out of the store, "Do you want to hit the food court real fast? I'm rather hungry, and we still have a few hours to kill."

He let out a quick sigh of relief when they left the store. The LAST thing he wanted to do was stand there arguing with her over whether he needed some more shirts or not.
One hand holding onto the bag containing his clothes, he pulled out the debit card and looked at it. It felt so weird using a card to pay for everything. He had always been used to just paying with cash (since... it usually wasn't his cash...).
Sherry's question made him remember exactly where he was, and he snapped his head up. "Uh, yeah sure." He looked at the card again. "This time, I'm paying." He hadn't forgotten she had paid for his movie ticket... even though he didn't watch it.

"What? You don't have to do that. I can pay for own food." She shrugged as she led the way to the food area. "Though if you really want to, I won't fight it. But it means you have to choose what we eat."
As they neared the food court the smells reminded her just how hungry she was. All kinds of delicious food smells. It was a fairly standard food court, with lots of food places lining the walls, and a whole horde of tables in the middle of the area. And the people; it was holiday time, after all. "Oh! Yes!" Spotting an open table, Sherry dashed right over to claim it.
"If you really want to pay, then I'll guard the table and you can go get something." Her stomach grumbled. "Anything is ok!"

... Must you harass me about every social interaction I'm forced to endure?
It probably didn't help that he was actually OFFERING to pay for her, but, well, maybe it was his pride or something. In his head, he still owed her, so... this way, they were even...ish. Kind of.
The smell was starting to make HIM hungry too, and he barely noticed Sherry dash off towards a table until she called out to him. ... wait. He was supposed to pick something for her too?
He frowned as he looked at the various food stands in front of him. There was... a TON of stuff. How was he supposed to figure out what she wanted?
Jake didn't even have to look to know what Chester had been pointing out, since he smelled it long before he saw it. Curry. He couldn't even REMEMBER the last time he had curry, but he was starting to crave it now. Hopefully she'd be ok with this, because he was already placing an order.

Sherry lost Jake almost immediately. Holiday shoppers. Where on earth did they all come from? It had never ceased to surprise Sherry. Never.
She understood it, to a point, too. Christmas shopping. She still had to do her own, matter of fact. She sat, going over her mental list of gifts that she hoped to find. She'd have to ditch Jake for a bit, considering he wasn't going to like what she had planned for him. Well. That would be easy enough, she was sure.
Her stomach rumbled again. She was hoping he'd hurry. It had been ages since she'd eaten.
When he did return to the table, he would be faced with one simple, honest question, in a voice full of curiosity. "What is that?"

Hearing her question, he looked down at the plates. Oops, uh... did she not like curry?
"This is... curry. Just try it. It's pretty good." As if to prove it to her, he put a spoonful into his mouth... followed with several more.

Curry? She'd heard of curry, but she'd never had curry. "Okay." Jake seemed to like it well enough, so it couldn't have been that bad. Reaching for her spoon, she went ahead and tried a little bit. "Hrm." It wasn't bad. So she had a little more.
"This isn't bad. Quite good, actually," she admitted after a few minutes. "Good choice." She smiled in thanks, and ate some more. It was nice to have something different and tasty.
"So, what do you want to get into next?"

Sherry only got a nod as she complimented his choice, as his mouth was full of food. He hadn't realize just how hungry he was until he started eating.
By the time Sherry took several more bites, he had already finished his plate, and only sat there watching her eat, leaning his cheek into his open palm as he propped his elbow on the table.
He had lost track of time, and remembered that they were only allowed to stay out for 12 hours. Suddenly, those 12 hours seemed pretty short, considering he had a few errands he wanted to run. He wasn't sure why, but he had a strangest urge to do more shopping...
"Say, how about we split up for an hour and meet back here?"

For some reason, having Jake just sit there and more or less watch her eat made her self-conscious. When she realized that, it only made it worse. His suggestion, however, actually helped with that. Took her mind right off it. She had been hoping to split up for a bit; perfect.
"That," she looked him in the eye, "sounds like an excellent idea. You can go ahead and go, if you like. I'm almost finished."
She glanced around. The place was packed. They had their phones, but still, getting lost in this place would be easy. "Where shall we meet?"

He only stared back at her for a while before lifting his head to look around. Geez, this mall was HUGE. His gaze finally settled on the ginormous Christmas tree smack dab in the middle of the mall. Well... that would work.
Leaning his cheek in his hand again, he lifted an arm lazily and pointed to the tree. "There, in an hour. Should be plenty enough time."
Posted: Sun Dec 23, 2012 7:23 pm
"That," she glanced up from her plate to look at the tree, "sounds good."
Then she stared at Jake for a moments. Just what was going on in that head of his? And how did his eyes get to be that--
"Alright! One hour." Her attention turned back to the remnants of delicious on her place. One or two more spoonfuls, then it was full on shopping time.

Putting his hands on the table, he pushed himself up and looked around. Alright, one hour. Where to go first?
------------------
After 50 minutes, Jake returned to their designated meeting spot, a string bag hanging over his shoulders.
