Faewynd

Her eyes caught the flicker of black among all the white robes. Wykla frowned as Suspicion screeched from her shoulder, scolding the two black flits from the Sands. Next time she'd be more clear that flits were not allowed on the Sands period. She moved slightly closer so she wouldn't have to shout and possibly scare the unimpressed green.

"Darsha! Next time those flits appear you will take yourself off the Sands." She stared sternly a moment to be sure the candidate knew she meant it, the moved back. Wykla scanned those nearby so no one else might get the same bright idea.

Of course we are the best. Syth added to her rider preening a bit at the compliment. She had gotten Hers and she was also getting the first choices of meat so clearly she was the best.

"I think I have to agree, but I might be a touch biased too." Medura gave him a small grin glancing up to spy the large green he had mentioned. "She's very pretty as well and no Syth hasn't eaten her fill yet." She added even as said green began spying more meat and giving her rider a gentle nudge.

"Thank you for your help master healer." Medura added giving him a nod of respect before she began parting out the meat cuts for her beautiful little green.

We can't have the others getting all the best cuts now can we?
Syth replied munching away at her meat practically preening with a rather smug pride that she got the first cuts. She got the first of everything because the others did not deserve the best. She did.

"No we certainly can't." Medura murmured with a smile scratching her lifebonds eyeridges as the whipish green crooned in pleasure.

[Rochelle]

Baby dragon charged, Rochelle's a** hit the sand. She coughed and sputtered when rear smacked ground but no cuts, nothing to fret about save for a bruise that would be rising up on her thigh at some point from the whip of a tail. She rubbed at her face before getting back up, eyes sealed on the remaining green.

Feisty! Full of sass! That, she could get behind. Let Carltis want his Silver or his crimson, she wanted to drape on a little sassy green (...or crimson, because girls were grand to have in ones head). (Just not a blue. Or a silver. Uuuugh boybrains.)

She squirmed in place, eyes flickign to Bereck, then Carltis, and then up in the Stands to try and see if Aleck showed up. ... Pity he didn't want to Stand. It'd have been a nifty excuse to continue bothering him during Weyrlinghood.

[Alina]

She came to watch the baby dragons and to reassure herself Bereck was not getting mauled by them.

So far, everything seemed okay.

A few people went down and the ones on the sands were green (perhaps she was biased, they were her favorite even if dragons typically garnered no favor). Alina yawned, having been interrupted in the middle of a ten hour shift to come watch. A stretch and then, an Aleck. An Aleck nearby to her, leaning over and watching something down there.

Oh, Bother. Alina blinked and looked back to the Sands.

More eggs were starting to move vigorously now, notably the Damaged Eardrums egg. The Shivering egg that had been active to start with was all but bouncing off the sand now, but it was the Swelling egg, another of Sunnath's, that cracked open next. The egg gave an experimental wiggle or two and then a pale blue foot kicked out of the shell, leaving behind a small hole. After a moment or two the foot appeared again, widening the opening until it was big enough for the hatchling to squeeze out.

He took a few wobbly steps forward before coming to a halt and stretching out his wings and looking around with glittering green eyes; a calmer sort, this hatchling, and apparently quite pleased with the world. Settling his wings by his flanks the blue set off towards the candidates, his steps becoming surer as he moved.

The 'Brown' green meanwhile had moved on. This time she approached Darsha, sniffing at her as she had the last two girls. After making a circuit of the candidate however she snorted and turned away; no, what she wanted was not there either. Where was hers? She was sure they were here, but exactly where she wasn't sure.

Oh! What a sweet little blue! Despite himself, Feden found that he was smiling like an idiot at the calm little hatchling. Calm was nice, really. He could handle calm, and steady. If it were possible, he thought, Feden almost wanted to speak with the dear. But that wasn't his place, was it? Instead, he just sent the darling positive thoughts and feelings. It would find his. It had to.

His attentions were caught, however, by the selective green who had not yet impressed. Eyebrows disappearing beyond his hairline, he blinked a few times. There wasn't anyone impressing her? That... that couldn't be right.

Without thinking on it, Feden chewed his lip in nervousness. Shards, he didn't want a dragon to go Between. Not on his first hatching.

Renio

Moonstone Dazzle

"I can't believe someone would steal eggs, and this close to hatching! Don't they know that dragons die if they can't find Theirs," Renio responded to Feden, a worried expression painted across his face. He leaned closer as the other boy whispered, quiet if only to catch what he said. He clasped a hand across his mouth as he listened, the expression on his face only intensifying. "That'd be terrible, it would! Do you think we'll know if that happens. Do you think...do you think we'd be able to tell? To feel a dragon calling us but being unable to answer?" Renio could hardly imagine the guilt he'd feel, and he quite agreed with Feden's sentiment that he'd never forgive himself.

"And good luck to you too! I'm Renio, by the way." He flashed a grin at the other. The second part of the boy's words stuck with Renio, and he mulled over them for a second. What was he after, exactly? He had no idea. He'd like to think that he would ride atop a bronze, but truthfully he knew he would be happy with any dragon. Even a blue, he thought as he eyed the newest addition to the sands.

Zifea

Zifea had shuffled out of the way when the greens' short-lived altercation moved her way. She'd hate to get injured her very first time Standing! She could just imagine the harsh words of her mother. 'What did I tell you, dragonriding is dangerous and not for girls! Now come here and help me patch this dress.' Sigh.

She wondered who the bigger green was going to pick, and looked at her inquisitively. She seemed to be studying the selection, and who could blame her? Impressing was undoubtedly the most important decision a dragon would ever make. You had to be careful about those things. Zifea hardly noticed as the blue hatched, and barely spared it a glance. If she got any dragon (which was highly unlikely to start with), it'd be a green. Best to keep her eyes off what wasn't meant for her.

Suunath was intensely watchful. She had been warned by Kindra against threatening the candidates but she didn't want any human here, her babies had been stolen and with her current eggs Hatching, she couldn't help but worry about those that had been taken, were they safe? would they find Theirs? It made for a very moody Gold that hunkered just behind her clutch, her tail slightly curved around one side protectively.

"If any make a mistake i will not hesitate to make them VERY Aware of it" she growled, both mentally and pyshically so that all of the candidates would hear, never letting up in her low, aggressive grumbling, her eyes flashing dangerously close to red when it seemed two of her daughters were going to fight.... Her eyes flashed to a calmer Green/blue when the second to hatch was the first to Impress, that one at least was safe unless her newly bonded was a complete idiot... for their sake Kindra hoped that the girl was not, unlike the girl she remembered that had drunk WINE at her hatching feast when she'd Impressed Suuanth, that girl had been lucky not to lose her dragon that day.

She watched as a Blue hatched, Kindra wasn't pleased ... the larger eggs gone, that might have held metallics or a Brown, the Gold egg, her pride and joy besides Suunath... gone. It made her feel sick. Sure greens and blues were appreciated but Bronzes and Browns were usually the pride of a Gold's clutch, it showed they were healthy, not that she thought Suunath was unhealthy but ... she'd have liked to seen more of the larger colors so far but.. at least the greens and now the Blue, seemed healthy and strong. She was going to murder the rotten thieves that stole from HER Suuanth if she got her hands on them, this was worse than that time the Wherhandler had turned on her.... at least that had been a physical blow and directed towards HER... not her Suunath who didn't deserve her children stolen.

At the gold's growl, Feden flinched in nervousness. That... was not a good sign. This was an unhappy dragon, and she very well wanted them all to know it. Lowering his eyes, Feden kept his gaze off of her and her young. How selfish had he been? Thinking of only himself, and the other candidates, without worry for Suunath. What a dimglow! Sighing, Feden shook his head, then turned to respond to the younger man. So long as the two of them were quiet...

Well. They could still be roasted alive, but it could be avoided. If they were respectful about this.

"It's just horrid. Those dragons don't deserve that," he mumbled softly, mind drifting back to the stolen eggs once more. At Renio's question, his face fell- that... that wouldn't happen, would it? His fears ran away from him, imagining the call of his dragon - should he Impress- where he could not reach them. And if they were to Between, because of him...

Feden had to swallow several times and still his thoughts to keep from crying. It wasn't a pleasant thought at all.

"Feden," he answered simply, smiling at the other boy. Renio seemed younger than him, by some years. And true, Feden would be terribly jealous if he were to impress before Feden, but...

He could wait. And hope. With what the weyr was going through, everyone had to be on their best.

Even if he was stupidly hopeful, this hatching.

The speckled blue paused as he approached the candidates and tilted his head, seeming to listen to something. Judging by the way his eyes lit up still brighter he liked what he heard. With a clear musical croon he bowed his head slowly to them. He moved onward then, heading over to the 'Brown' green who was now prowling up to Zifea to give her a good sniffing.

With another musical croon the blue bumped his head gently against his sister's. The green turned slowly to regard him, not aggressive but apparently not keen to return his greeting. This seemed to upset the blue a little - a flash of grey flickered through his eyes - but soon they were green again and he turned back to the spot where he had first paused, where he had heard that lovely sound; he had tried to be kind to his sister, but if she would not have him then it was time to find His.

Where had it been? That voice that called to him?...

Yes. There.

Neptanth hummed a bit deeper as the little blue found His. S'kiro smiled up at the deeper noise. He still remembered his Impressing. He did feel a bit sorry for the blue, seeing him try to be nice to his green sister.

Renio

The blue was coming closer! Ohohohoh, was this it?! Renio waited for what he imagined Impression felt like - a really happy feeling and a new voice suddenly in your mind, crooning with hunger. At least that's how it was described in his lessons. But the feeling never came, and it was with some disappointment that Renio realized the dragon was destined for his new friend. Ah, well, good for him! Smiling at Feden, Renio nodded to him. "I knew your dragon would be here! That's so great, maybe I'll meet you at the feeding tables later?" He was so young, so optimistic, and the thought of not-Impressing wasn't one he was willing to think twice about.

Zifea

Uh. Uh. Uhuhuhuh. She had a dragon sniffing her! She knew this wasn't Impression - she'd heard it was quite recognizable, which only meant this wasn't her dragon. Zifea stood still, arms pressed to her side, barely allowing her eyes to look down at the hatchling. She didn't dare touch the green, as she'd been instructed, and knew it was best to just let her carry out her inspection. She'd heard of the damage baby dragons could inflict, and she sorely didn't want to be one those unlucky Candidates who was torn by the very thing they desired. Especially since this very dragon had previously drawn ichor on her own sibling!

Still, she was quite enamored to be this close to a baby dragon, and Zifea couldn't help but smile and speak softly to the green after a moment. "Hi there. You can sniff me for as long as you want, but don't you think you want to find Yours soon? I'm sure they're ready to meet you, and you must be quite hungry."

Darsha turned bright red when Wykla yelled at her about the flits. If those two naughty little creatures hurt her chances... she sent scathing thoughts in their direction. The day didn't seem to be getting much better for the dark haired girl, the Brown green had come and gone and Suunath's anger and fear was palpable. It was terrible that the hatching was marred by theft. If those others didn't impress...

But look! Darsha's eyes brightened as the little blue found His. Another impression, that was good! She smiled at the pair, admiring the blue's delicate speckled pattern.

The other Green was sure taking her time choosing. Being picky was all good and fine, especially since she was picking who she’d be stuck with for life, but it looked like the Green was being too picky.

You can’t reject the lot of them. Surely one of them’s tolerable.’

Then a Blue hatched, and made his choice far more quickly and with less drama then either of his sisters.

[Bereck & Breath]

Bereck nodded to the new rider; "Take care," and turned back towards his station; those beside the table would deal with any eating-related problems. There was nothing worse than a gobbling dragonet that managed to choke itself.

Berath exclaimed again to Aleck and Bereck. She hoped she could get to know the little one, and all of his siblings. She hoped all of his siblings Impressed safely, including those who had been lost.

----------------

[Carltis]

High speed grumpy green had resulted in swiftly diving out of the way Carltis. Rolling back to his feet he turned to see Rochelle on her arse, but apparently unhurt as she soon got up again. Now where had that green gone?... It had gone to get into a fight; well great! Just what everyone needed. Luckily it soon broke up without bloodshed and the fiery little green Impressed.

One gone.

A blue was next to hatch, a much more docile creature. Carltis wondered as it wobbled and then stepped out more confidently if perhaps this one was meant to be a balancing force to him... but no, after trying to greet the 'brown' green it quickly Impressed to somebody else.

Two gone.

Plenty more still to come though, plenty of chances... and plenty of rivals.

The voice in his mind made Feden's eyes widen. Now and forever more... yes, that was right. Unable to keep the smile from his face, the now-Impressed man laughed softly. How utterly perfect! Everything he'd never known he was without was here, presented to him in Tiakimerth. There was music, and laughter, and the distinctive feeling of being ravenous. Letting his hand trail along Tiakimerth's eye ridges, Feden turned to lead his new dragon to be fed.

'I look forward to it,' Feden thought, near to crying in joy. Tiakimerth looked up to him, eyes whirling in amusement.

This was simply perfect.

Feden gave a happy wave to Renio, wishing him all of the best.

'Let's get you fed, and watch, Tiakimerth. I... I hope it all goes well.'

'You're just perfect,' Feden laughed, still in disbelief.

Today WAS a celebration. And Tiakimerth was perfect.

He would never forget that.
