Unfortunately for Thackery, he had the wrong heart-shaped key. Somewhere in another part of Santa's workshop was a very miffed heart-shaped lock in the Puppy Room that was still waiting for the right heart-shaped key.
Inspecting the fountain only yielded two simple words from the fountain of chocolate: eat me.
Inspecting the ornaments revealed that each ornament was actually foil wrapped around mint chocolates. Peeling open one revealed also the words: eat me too.

Sophie pursed her lips a little. The chute was locked. Of course it couldn't be that easy. Following Xiu, Sophie gave a nod. "Just a little. I'll be fine. Mostly I'm worried about Alex.. I don't know where he is. Well, I have a pretty good idea but.. Still.." She stepped away from Xiu for a moment to inspect the wrapping paper bundling some of the presents under the tree. All of them had the heart shaped engravings but she wasn't sure what exactly that meant. Besides.. paper wasn't exactly a key, was it?
The sound of another voice interrupted her and Sophie turned around and blinked a few times at the red head. Was she one of Alex's friends? Or one of his enemies. "I'm his sister, yes," she answered softly. "Who are you?" Sophie thought perhaps she'd heard her brother mention something about his friends - but she couldn't really be sure and she didn't want to make any false assumptions. Of course, certain things about the ghoul made Sophie want to ignore all internal warnings or worry. For instance; her outfit was absolutely stunning. Sophie had always wanted to make such outfits but didn't think anyone would be interested.. or creeple would think her weird for wearing them..

A small hand might have sneaked its way out from underneath Belladonna's dress, reached over and totally took some chocolate to eat. The chocolate-covered (?) hand then vanished back into the skirts where a certain little monster . . .well, ate it.

Aah, so that's what it was. She reached over to give the ghoul a light, one-armed hug, offering her a reassuring grin. "Don't worry, I know for a fact that Alex can take care of himself. Not that it's necessary for him to fend for himself right now--assuming he ended up in the other room, he'll have a lot of other students and friends with him. I'm sure we'll meet up with them soon." Xiu certainly hoped so, at least. Along with Alex, she had other friends in that group too. Mot, Mort--were they all okay?
The faster they got out of here, the faster that they could check.
While Sophie conversed with Bella, the baku frowned and reached out to pluck one of the ornaments off of the tree, noticing immediately that they were not the simple bauble ornaments that she had thought they were. No, on closer inspection, and upon actually feeling them, the colorful exterior was actually foil, and inside...
"I don't know about this," Xiu instantly held the chocolate at arm's length, eying it warily, "Eating things in Christmas without knowing if they'll do anything to us doesn't seem like a wise ide--"
She cut herself off, staring speechlessly as she noticed a hand that darted out from Bella's dress from the corner of her eye. She watched as it grabbed some chocolate, and disappeared again beneath the pleats of the dress. There was a long moment of staring, and then she turned her blank--and questioning--gaze up to the witch.

She was now on her stomach, a clawed hand cupping one cheek while she eyed the rest of the students as they continued to investigate the mysteries of the room. In Tisiphone’s opinion, it was not such a bad room. She liked the lights enough, but maybe it would be better if she smashed a few of them so the tree wasn’t so lit up with funky colors. Golden eyes turned toward the few who chose to search the chocolate fountain and the ornaments on the tree. Her ears perked up when she noticed the ornaments only revealed more chocolate. Tisiphone crinkled her nose, but slowly sat up while her tail flicked back and forth.
The hellhound gradually got to her feet and walked over toward a group of students. Grinning widely, she casually wrapped a hand around Xiu’s shoulders. “Ya really think so? I dun think it’s a horrible idea.” The smile stretched even bigger when she saw a hand dart out to grab a piece of chocolate. Megaera hissed in her head while Tisiphone walked toward the fountain. “Ya know what? I think the hand’s got the right idea. When’s the next time I’mma come back here, anyways?” She laughed as she jumped into the fountain and took a long slurp from it.

From beneath Bella's skirts the scent of sulfur was starting to accumulate, not to mention there were some seriously red eyes staring out at anyone who happened to just even look that way.
Oh yes.
Well they were mostly like just burning a hole in the fabric but the sulfur smell was still there.
And maybe some quills that were moving every so faintly.

A delighted giggle exited the witch as Chuppi made herself comfortable under the protective barrier of the witch's skirts, and though Belladonna tried to hide it behind her hands (this was obviously not the situation for laughter) it just would not do. But she needed to look serious, so she immediately snapped her mouth closed and gave Shun a very curt, business-like nod. He looked so serious, and this was a rather unfunny time anyways, so she wanted to match his demeanor. For all of about five seconds before she turned and shuffled a little towards Sophie. Carefully she nudged Chuppi underneath her forward, but stopped after a few paces merely because she did not want to upset the ghoul anymore. "Oh, I'm Belladonna, I'm a good friend of his." Here she momentarily pressed both forefingers and thumbs together in mimic of a triangle. "One corner of a friendly, adventuring triangle, if you will!"
Content to stand in the middle of the room and just, well, house a little chupacabra underneath her voluminous dress, Belladonna only turned a curious face toward Xiu. Kind and cautious she found the Baku and had the witch not had someone to protect behind her legs she might have bounced over to the ghoul and hugged her simply because Xiu was so abjectly adorable. "That is most likely a very good idea, but... I do believe Chuppi has already helped herself to a snack." Here the witch realized how odd a bunch of spikes might appear poking out from her skirts and had to try very hard not to laugh again. Instead she flapped a hand at the baku-ghoul with a smile before she pointed down. "Chuppi startles easily...So she's hiding. Once she acclimates to her surroundings I'm sure she'll be fine." At this juncture the witch bent herself forward at the waist so that her lower half remained stationary and peered between the fabric at the glowing red eyes underneath. "You must inform me right away if that chocolate makes you feel even the slightest bit odd, alright conejito?" That was definitely a word the chupacabra had taught the witch and Belladonna had only just remembered.

Chuppi wasn't really sure why she was being called a bunny of all things, but she just nodded her head to the request. So far so good?
Like the others, AJ also saw the heart shaped lock on the sealed chute. They needed a key now or....? Seeing some students already investigating the fountain, which his brother already got some when he first entered the room as well as the ornaments, he decided to check with the candycane lollipops.
"Hi Belladonna!" He waved at the witch while the second head started at her skirt greedily. "What's wrong, bro?"
"Hey, you there! The key wasn't fit in, maybe try investigate other things like the rest?" AJ waved and drew the attention of Thackery. He actually was a bit surprised that the boil got that amount of keys. Interesting.
The boil also suggested to the rest. "Try investigating different things, anything that can lead to a clue."

The hand caught Sophie's attention much like it had everyone else's. Her eyes widened and she stepped back a moment before the witch spoke and distracted her from.. whoever or whatever was under there. Peeking at the bottom of the witch's skirts, Sophie raised a brow. It did look like a good hiding spot and maybe if she was more acquainted with the witch she may have hid under there herself. "Oh!" She exclaimed as the witch introduced herself. "It's nice to meet you, Belladonna. Though I wish we'd met before this. Or at least in different circumstances.."
Turning to Xiu, she gave a nod. "You're right. I'm sure he's perfectly fine." An honest statement. Sophie realised she was overreacting; which, given the situation, wasn't the best idea in the world. Eyeing the ornaments, the ghoul ran her tongue over her lips. Something.. something sweet was inside them. However, when Xiu didn't eat hers, Sophie took it as a sign to not go there. Probably a good idea, too. She did, however, pluck one off the tree and put it in her pocket. If it turned out they were harmless, she didn't want to miss out. "Still no key, huh?"
Looking towards the voice that talked to her she was about to answer before having a sudden urge to wander towards something she noticed. She had noticed a heart shaped lock and was suddenly drawn to it. Touching it gently she wondered what could possibly be used to open it. Glancing around the room she saw other items with hearts engraved on it.
Peering closer at the lock seeing if there was anything written on it perhaps. She could hear the other students wandering around looking at the various other items in the room.

Being shot down so blithely rather irritated the reaper ghoul, so Terra turned her back on the group and started for the elves. "Por favor," she said with a grin that seemed a bit strained. "You see, I do not think that your mugs are quality enough for you to be drinking from them. Might I inspect one? I am, as you say, new eyes!"
She reached out and took one of the mugs to examine, doing her best to look haughty (and she was very, very good at that impression.) "Oh, si, I was correct," she went on. "You need something FAR better, no? Something that is original!"

The whisper of a chute was missed, and Lizzy only realized that it was there when Xiu mentioned it. For some reason, she started thinking of spy movies - which meant that taking the risk of going through the chute could end either really well or really badly.
"Sophie, Terra," She repeated the names given to her out loud to internalize them, nodding and smiling at each ghoul. Gene was given a smile as well, followed by a wave, "Long time no see~ We were going to, but it looks pretty sturdy. Besides, Sophie's right; the yellow scout - that robot - might still be out there."
Silly santa scouts... She thought that they got rid of them over a year ago...
Closer examination of the chute revealed a heart shaped lock, and then, suddenly, she noticed heart shaped engravings on everything in the room. It was magical... And just a little bit freaky. It was just one of those things that you wouldn't pay attention to or notice until it was brought up, and once it had been brought up, it became impossible to ignore or miss.
"... Well... Huh," She muttered sheepishly as everyone dispersed to investigate, some even going as far as to eat the Joy-filled food, turning to a nearby elf to see if he might be up for answering a question, "Excuse me, but how can we obtain the key needed to open the heart shaped lock on that chute?"

Levi stared reaaaal good at the display going on in here. Admittedly, the candy and sweets intrigued the tatzel. While she had half a mind to go over and investigate the cheery delights, the other half was busy remembering that she'd just been whacked by one of those familiar bots. Picking herself up, the ghoul's tail swayed side to side as she considered her options here.
There were some particularly smarty-pants looking elves in here that wanted to talk about the quality of toys. If they asked her, that hairy fruit she'd made was quite adequate; perhaps more so than what they were looking at. Scanning more closely about the other students in the room, she'd note a good number of her adoptive kin and faces she'd met before. Why were they in here? More importantly, how would they get out?

Gene gave a nod to Lizzy, understanding that the door wouldn't be a very good option. Neither would eating the things in this room, which some of the students had taken to do. She bit her lip at that, slightly worried for them - Mei had told her that taking in something filled with JOY wouldn't be good at all. She'd do something else...
Oh, eggnog. Gene didn't even like the sound of that - who put eggs in a drink? Disgusting, is what it sounded like. She ignored the eggnog for now, opting instead for one of the heart engraved candy canes.
She put the candycane in the lock, trying to use it as some sort of lockpick.
