Her arms were about him and he welcomed them but not without a small amount of concern. Freya was trembling as if frightened by something. Kettil raised an eyebrow as he wrapped am arm around her and used the other hand to pet her hair. Holding on to her made him happy, even if she seemed suddenly afflicted with fright.
"What is the matter, TĂșkut? Are you cold?" Perhaps that was it. She was cold in spite of having her jacket on again and being inside the nice warm maul.
Hm, maybe she had a fever? The hand that was petting her hair pressed a couple of fingertips to her the available surface of cheek. He was trying to gauge her temperature now.

Cold. Was she cold? Now that she thought about it, she could tell there were certain parts of her that felt like they were freezing. She felt icy fingers gripping her shoulders, pushing her down with the weight of a heavy, painful burden. It was a different kind of fear that made her heart beat faster now, and she pulled away from Kettil, and turned to look behind her.
There was no one there.
"Ja." She whispered out sharply. "I am colds." Turning back to look up at him, her eyes were guarded, kept from looking up too long lest the haunting darkness that hovered just behind them made itself known. "I don't needs new clothes. Maybe we goes home now?"

Suddenly she was guarding against him. Kettil felt a pang of hurt shoot through him as she refused to really look at him. A roll of emotion pushed through him now that the illusion of love and adoration had shattered from around them.
His lips pulled into a thin line for the moment and he was about to argue with her but then he remembered.
They weren't alone.
"No corners my a**," he said firmly and then started to walk forward, away from her now.

No corners my a**.
Kettil had driven a stake deep into her heart with four simple words, and the pain of made her audibly gasp, all of the breath expelling from her lungs at once. She watched him walk away for all of a second, before the urge to run and tackle him flowed through her blood hotly. It was almost enough to keep her from feeling the hands, clenched firmly on her shoulders, that kept her from moving an inch.
Kettil was doing the exact thing she'd just gone cold with fear about. He was mad. He was leaving her.
It was happening all over again.
Freya's eyes unfocused, losing track of her sight of Kettil. Her arms wrapped around her stomach, and she trembled, tumbling down immediately to her knees. No one stopped to see if she was all right. The crowd kept walking past, on both sides, as she sat there, a crumbled little ghoul.
So she started singing.
It was a wordless little tune, no real song, but it was enough. The people around her began to walk slower, their bags began to feel heavier, and children began to cry..

He heard her, his walking slowed and eventually stopped. His hands reached up to brush it through his hair in frustration.
Why?
Kettil didn't want to be mad at her and he didn't mean to be but sometimes she tried to hide herself from him and then he hurt. He just wanted a moment to walk away or just simply not talk to her at all, at least until he was more in control of himself. Dark green eyes cast a glance behind him and he saw what was happening.
He felt sad. Lonely.
The Muut was quick to turn around and run back over toward her again pushing through the crowd and the general feeling of malaise that was starting to blanket the area. "Freya," he said as he melted down near her and moved to gather her up.
"Ahh, silly ghoul, shhh." He pressed a small kiss to her cheek. "I'm back, see? I wasn't going to go forever, see?"
Guilt set heavily in his gut.

Freya looked up at the boil after he kissed her cheek, but her lips still moved just slightly, the hum of her voice escaping her lips. Her mouth turned down into a pout, because he was there to assure her that she had nothing to worry about, but the grip holding her down and holding her heart painfully captive didn't let the words sink in. They just grazed the surface, keeping her from breaking down into tears.
There was no attempt to fight his arms, and she was looking at him, at those eyes.. but still, she just kept singing. Very quiet, very soft, but just enough.

He simply stayed put and pouted back at her, "Why you gotta hide from me, Freya? Do you know how much that hurts? How would you feel if I locked myself away from you?" Kettil wasn't ready to have this chat right there in the maul but if he had to he would.
"Every time you feel something wrong you just take it all on yourself and it ain't fair. It ain't fair that you make me share my burdens and you just snap all of yours onto your shoulder like I am not gonna help." His tone was firm and quiet with her as he pled his case.
Now he was the one trembling and feeling anxiety for the future. The perfect moment washed away into this.
"I'm sorry I walked away like that. I really am but what if I said somethin' bad that hurt you in the heat of the moment, eh?" He was ignoring her signing as best as he could for now. "Either way I planned t'come back, TĂșkut...I'll always come back."

She was listening to his every word, but that didn't stop her soft humming. It wasn't until those sweet words that she wanted to believe more than anything came out of his mouth, that her voice hitched, and her eyes filled with tears.
He'd always come back. He'd always come back. How could she even begin to explain how frightening those words were? How hard he could believe them now, only to suddenly turn dark one day, and want nothing to do with her? No one could ever understand.
"I don't hides from yeh, Hooter. I tells yeh everythings. I don't ever wants teh locks myself away. But I can't keeps sayings the same things, over and over.. it'll make yeh sicks teh hears it and yeh'll leaves me for that. I feels.. like.." Even as she tried to explain it, she couldn't find the words. This was why she curled up into herself when moments like this came. She didn't think she'd ever be able to adequately explain those icy fingers.

"I don't care if you repeat the same thing over and over," Kettil insisted, "and even if it is the same thing then I will reassure you and then prove to you that everything will be alright." He felt as if he was losing a battle with her all of the sudden. No matter how many times he told her, assured her, it always turned to this same argument.
Kettil's fingertips clutched at her shoulders to make sure she's looking at him, can feel him there, "What do I gotta do to make you see that I am not going anywhere?" He said softly, "Need me to sew myself to you or somethin'? Cause I will? Give me a damned needle and thread and I'll do it right here and now. I won't regret a moment of it."
He sounded so serious despite how ridiculous it came out.

Freya let out a startled cry when his fingers gripped around her shoulders, a tremor leaving her until the only thing she felt on her skin was his warm, steady grip. There was a few seconds of silence, before she breathed a sigh of relief, and reached up to press her hands gratefully against his, keeping them there. Then she digested the offer he'd made, and just how serious he sounded, and a weak, pathetic little chuckle left her.
"Yeh don't even knows how teh sews." She whispered, burying her head into his collarbone in embarrassment.

"I'd learn, just for us," he said firmly despite the small tone of amusement creeping into his voice. His arms wrapped around her more securely once more.
What was he going to do with her? Other than love her each and every day, despite all the frustrations she made him experience.
Kettil gave her a light squeeze, "So don't blame me if it looks cruddy."

She snickered into his skin, and pulled away, looking up into his eyes. She felt like she was falling in love with him all over again, because he was holding her in the middle of a maul, on the floor, while she cried.
And he was still looking at her like that.
"I'm sorry." She sniffed out. "I don't.. take.. leavings or walkings away very well nowadays, do I." Her lower lip jutted out, and she placed one hand on his cheek, pressing against it gently. "Don't wants teh makes yeh suffers for somethings yeh didn't even do."

He quietly leaned his cheek to her hand as he simply moved to wipe the trail of tears from her cheeks in turn. Kettil was digesting what she said and took in her face. He didn't love her any less than before and if anything he loved her more. His sweet fragile Freya.
Kettil knew he would do literally anything for her. "It isn't suffering. It's just another challenge that I gotta pass to make sure I'm worthy of your heart." Kettil smiled a little as he said this.

It was a very easy thing to realize, as it slowly dawned upon her. No boil should ever have to deal with so much trouble just for one stupid little ghoul. Kettil did it, every single time. He did it with a smile. His eyes never faltered.
Kettil was a saint, in love with a sinner. And he thought he needed to be worthy of her heart. It was preposterous, and it made her laugh a breathy laugh. "No, my love." She whispered, shaking her head. "I'm the one who has teh works teh becomes worthy of yehrs."

He just shook his head a bit, "I'm the one shoving my heart at you no matter what," he said quietly. "I always give it to you freely and easily. You seem to guard yours with at least three different walls in the way for me to climb over," it was a gentle quiet tease and an observation as well.
From the very moment his emotions for her had dawned he just kept giving himself over to her in hopes that something would occur.
Now it was here.
