Having completed touching all of Suunath's eggs, Darsha paused a moment before traversing the short tunnel that led to crimson Hyweth's clutch. Were hair and her clothes in order? Was she ready for the next half of the touching? Already she was starting to feel the emotional toll of all the excitement and anticipation and nervousness. But yes, she was ready. More than ready! Darsha ducked her way through the tunnel and approached Hyweth cautiously. She could tell that the crimson was agitated, though she had been warned that this might be the case. Crimson's didn't clutch often, so it made sense that she would be more anxious or protective. Darsha was prepared, however. She had accosted J'len in the dining hall one day. She had made it a habit of accosting any dragonrider who would talk to her, and the crimsonrider had willingly shared some insight into her precious dragon. Getting as close to the dragon as she dared, Darsha gave her a bow and then tossed a sparkling string of colored beads on the sands. They were cheap and poorly made, but brightly colored nonetheless.

"For you." She said, coming out of her bow and glancing over at J'len. The rider had said the crimson liked pretty presents. Darsha only hoped that perhaps this would give her some kind of leg up. One should never, ever overlook an opportunity.

Finally! The day of the Touching. Torin was excited but still somewhat cautious. He didn't want to get too hopeful and just have things happen the way they did last time. Then again, it was only his second Touching, but this one was special. There were two clutches on the sands. That doubled his chances right? A gold's clutch and a crimsons. He hadn't seen a crimson hatching before but knew that there would be a bigger chance for atypicals. Which was interesting, just what would come out of those eggs. Ah, but the queen had laid a gold as well. Which just made things even more interesting. Taking a mental note of the rules once more, the boy tried not to shift his feet around too much on the hot sands.

Eyes darted from egg to egg until he decided to go ahead and move towards the closest ones. Stopping several feet from the group of eggs, he made sure to bow to the queen before getting too close. Before making a move, he double checked that that the gold would allow him to move closer and headed straight to the Slender Egg. This one had a nice coloring and it was the first one to catch his eye. After making sure he wasn't bothering anyone, the dark-haired boy carefully pressed his palm against the shell. Well, wasn't this little one full of itself. Opps, probably shouldn't have thought that, it seemed the egg did not like that. Oh well...there were other eggs out there, maybe ones that weren't so uptight about a bit of criticism.

It was probably a good thing no one else could hear his thoughts, huh? Glancing around, Torin gave a small shrug and headed to the next egg. The Brown Egg was...well brown. And the moment his hand touched the shell he blinked. And blinked again. Well...okay then. Staring contest? After a few seconds of staring, the young man chuckled very quietly and turned to the next egg. That one might end up being interesting, if it was as confused at the Hatching as it was in the egg. The next one, Pacifist Egg was one of Torin's favorite. Even if he'd only touched three of them now. But the way it seemed to want to look after himself and the smaller eggs was touching. A motherly egg. He liked that.

Onto the next egg, which was the Languid Egg and by far the smallest of the gold's eggs. As soon as palm met shell, Torin wanted nothing more than to sit there and enjoy the company of this egg. It was pretty warm but the thought of sitting on the sands reminded him that yes, his bum would be burned after too long and it was probably not the smartest idea. With a regretful pat, he turned to leave with a small smile. Even though the sense of regret from the egg was almost enough to have him turn back, but he must go on. So many eggs to touch.

The Head First Egg was almost enough to give Torin a head ache. Every answer was random and it seemed like whatever dragon was inside was having a chat with itself or someone else. Which was strange cause there was no one else there at that moment. Well, guess it was time to move on, this little one was already to meet someone new. That was kinda rude. Even if it's shell was sorta nice looking. Oh, the next one was really nice. Dark blue, he liked that color, and all those swirls! Surely any dragon coming outta there would handsome...or beautiful. Whichever. The 'Circles-Within-Circles' Egg was...full of energy. Torin wasn't sure he would be able to keep up with this one and..hey! What was it doing rummaging around in his head? Frowning slightly, he tried to keep from squirming. Was it looking for something? No? Good. Next egg!

The Play Nice Egg...well, this one he really liked. Even more so than the motherly egg. As soon as his hand rested on the shell, it seemed to touch back. Yes, he really liked this one. It seemed so eager to help and curious as well, something he could understand. "Good luck, little one." Hopefully this one would find a very good partner. Patting it very gently, he turned and headed to the Knockabout Egg, blinking at the color and trying to hide a smile. Such a bright green, and so large! It was certainly happy to see him as well, or maybe it was just happy to see everyone. But that was okay, the excitement seemed to be catchy and even he had a grin on his face. Couldn't wait to see how that one would turn out.

The next was the Swelling Egg and it managed to surprise him when it rocked just a bit as his touched it. And...well, he could certainly stay here all day. This egg seemed to be filled with positive emotions and so much calm. It had Torin wishing he could be like that; if only for a little one. Opportune Moment Egg was plain, but it was very intelligent. Torin blinked as he got the sudden feeling he was being judged by this egg. Not in a bad way, but as if the egg was going through the pros and cons of Torin himself. Odd, but he wouldn't complain. And then finally it was the last egg of the gold's clutch. Well, not the last, but he had no reason to touch the gold egg. Self-Absorbed was well...not an egg Torin could say he liked. It seemed like it was ready to burst right now if only it could. A small smirk tugged at the young man's lips and he shook his head. Much too impatient. Stepping away, he took a last glance around to make sure he didn't forget any then nodded to himself. Nope, that left the crimson's clutch.

He had had a few faint doubts about coming to the weyr after he’d arrived with Muburine on the same dragon. What was he really getting himself into? His parents had been hinting that he would be surely walking the tables soon. Then he’d gone and blown it to join his rival of all things. He still had endless chores to do, usually for older people, which left a sour taste in his mouth.

And now, he was facing female dragons and their eggs. Clutches. A gold and a crimson had both clutched. That was technically good for the weyr. Thrarothar had been herded with a bunch of other candidates to the surprisingly hot sands. He shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot as the rules were said and the assistant candidatemasters glared at them. He could hardly believe one was a girl younger than him. Were they really that low on capable riders?

Well he’d give this a try. Dubiously he approached and gave a bow to the queen. Did they really have to do this? He felt a bit silly, but did it anyhow. Wouldn’t be the first time. After that he moved up to the eggs and eyed them. Start with the gold egg? He had heard rumors it contained a gold, and everyone knew golds only Impressed to girls. So he could leave that one out. Instead he went to Knockabout Egg. He watched the person in front of him lay a hand on the shell then step away. That was all it was about? Dubiously Thrarothar placed his hand on the hot shell. He jerked as he felt something from it. It was… happy? He shook his head and moved on.

Thrarothar approached the next biggest egg. The Pacifist Egg was duly touched. And….. it was looking after him? No the mother dragons were looking after it, silly egg. He left the spotted egg to its siblings and moved on to the Self-Absorbed Egg. The eagerness of this one to hatch surprised him. They surely weren’t ready yet. He left it to ‘develop’ some more and approached Swelling Egg. He jumped as the egg rocked. It had sure startled him! Despite that the egg was very responsive, and positive. He gave it a pat before moving on.

Muburine was excited and eager for his first Touching. He listened carefully to what the candidate masters had to say. None of it sounded like a problem. Moving into a line he patiently waited for his turn to come. There were so many candidates out and about. As he moved onto the sand and stopped before Sunnath. Muburine gave a bow. “Thank you for letting touch your eggs.” He gave one to the woman standing beside the gold too, just in case.

Formalities done, he was mindful not to linger. So he gently approached the Slender Egg. It was a pretty turquoise and laying on its side. Gently he reached down and petted the hard, yet perfectly smooth shell. The cunning mind of the to-be dragon nearly made him think of Thrarothar. Which was scary. He quickly withdrew his hand and moved on. A few steps away was the Brown Egg. He smiled at the impression he got. Poor little baby. It’d all be clear later.

Next his choice was Languid Egg. He felt sympathy for the lonely feelings and patted it. “I can only stay a bit. The assistants don’t want us to linger you see.” He whispered to it. He very much would have liked to stay longer. The regret at leaving made him sigh a bit. He moved on and hoped the dragon would find its right partner. Moving around he came upon Opportune Moment Egg. His fingers brushed the shell and felt himself being weight. It was an uncanny feeling and he moved on quickly.

Bright green of Knockabout Egg drew his attention. It was a large egg. Muburine noted all the hits in the other eggs. Seemed this one can’t sit still. He smiled when it was happy he’d stopped. Good! He was happy too. Slowly he moved on to Self-Absorbed Egg. “You can’t rush it.” Again he spoke. Some things just took time. He moved on.

The Nozomi
He dipped into a bow for Kindra. When he straightened, the weavercrafter looked over her dress critically and, more to the point, the embroidery.

"That does nothing for your skintone," He said, voice even and conversational. No mocking lay there and his face betrayed no jokes. "The gold. Maybe some blues? Greens? I have a pale lavender that would compliment you."

Kindra had merely nodded to the candidates as they bowed to her and Suunath but this one, well wasn't he Bold. She raised an eyebrow as he spoke to her, not the usual greeting "You are a Weaver?" she queried "Very well, perhaps i shall take you up on that offer, for now though, you had best get to touching the eggs" she replied as Suunath rumbled.

"he is right Mine, that dress really does not suit, perhaps you should have worn another" The gold sighed, whuffing out a breath at the candidate. "I wish they would hurry and go already, i don't want them here, none of them" she grumbled to Kindra, her tail kicking up sand whenever it flicked behind her.

"Soon my love, they'll be gone soon ... this was the only clean one since you've had me down here scrubbing you whenever you had the slightest itch" she said to her dragon, her tone amused. She turned back to the candidate "When your duties are over, you are welcome to bring your wares to my quarters" she said, then moved her gaze over to the eggs and candidates, effectively dismissing the candidate to go and touch the eggs.

Carltis let out a controlled breath through his nose and turned to Rochelle, smiling tightly. Calm. Don't get worked up. For once in your life, try not to be a complete pillock. Touch the eggs, get out, b***h about things later over wine.

"Right," he murmured, voice low and still a bit tight but losing that edge of snarl. "How about that one?" he indicated a largeish blue egg. "That one could be a big blue; who knows?" Shaking his head he moved over to the Self-Absorbed Egg. The moment he touched it he flinched back again; it had felt angry, as though it was reprimanding him for the dark thoughts churning in his head. Taking another steady breath he tried to clear his head and just reach out to the unborn dragon. Despite his best efforts he felt another mental smack for it, but this time his hand lingered long enough to pick up its impatience too and.... "Full of ego, this one," he said softly to Rochelle with a raise of his brows as he took his hand away; touching the bright blue thing hadn't been an entirely pleasant experience but he could sympathise with its desire to get this hatching thing over with. He hated waiting, not knowing what his fate would be.

"Where next then?" he added after a moment. "Your turn to pick."

[Rochelle]

Carltis and his moment of zen did not go unnoticed. Rochelle watched him from the corner of her eye under the guise of watching the egg in front of them. She waited until he'd righted himself to touch his elbow, looking up to try and catch his eye for a silent bit of thanks. Being pleased out loud didn't seem to be the prudent thing to do. Instead, she looked back to the egg.

"Yeah?" She crouched, fingertips first, and felt a swell of anger for -- something? She frowned, hand steady on the shell, and felt that grumbling fall away, a superficial thing to cover impatiance and pure awesome. The grin could not be helped, eyebrows flicking up. "S'all good, kid. I'm badass too. You have fun with hat."

She stood, flexing her fingers to rid herself of extra egg feels. A bump of the hip to Carltis' and a jerk of her head with a bright smile was all the warning he got before she skirted to the Opportune Moment egg. "This one."

Another crouch and her hand on the pretty shell later, and she had a dragon in her head. It treated her mind like an onion, staring, peeling, with a sneaky feel. Her hand jerked back, head shaking as she stood. "Try to keep your thoughts to yourself with that one."

Nodding agreement - and thanks at the warning - Carltis moved to touch the plain shell of the Opportune Moment egg. He understood what she had meant immediately, and a shiver ran though his powerful frame as he felt the thing assessing him. The sand around it looked oddly undisturbed; most of the others had marks where the egg had obviously been rolled around or perhaps twitched of its own accord but not this one. A stubborn dragon? He had no idea; while it happily peeled away at the layers of his psyche it didn't give anything away about itself save what its actions revealed. Analytical, maybe a little cunning, probably intelligent?

When he stepped away from the egg he had to shake his head to clear it a bit, and found that he had no inkling one way or the other if it was his type or not. He certainly wouldn't rule it out, and its size seemed to indicate a dragon he could Impress.... Well, he'd find out on the big day he supposed.

"Not sure what to make of that one," he admitted to Rochelle, "pretty sure it had me all worked out though... how about this purple one next? Could be a blue in there." Worth hoping for.

Rolling his shoulders in an attempt to get rid of the weird feeling of having his brain picked apart Carltis moved to the Head First Egg and crouched down to touch it. This was another one that made him blinked hard and shake his head; it was welcoming, but almost violent in the way it grasped at his mind. When he tried to reach out towards it he was merely met with a confused jumble of thoughts and feelings... and impatience.

Pulling his hand back Carltis flexed his fingers and shrugged at Rochelle. "Not sure about that one either. It seemed pleased to see me though?" Even if it had been a little bit like having claws sink into his mind.

Becka was torn, sure she had a few candlemarks off before Bereck wanted her again but she was conflicted between her want to stay in the Infirmary, and wanting to at least LOOK at the eggs. This being the only time she could see them without upsetting the mothers. She knew there were some idiots that had snuck to the Stands to glimpse the eggs and had been caught out beforehand. It wasn't easy to sneak on the Sands, or even the Stands.

It wasn't her intention to sneak anyway but she did want to be private, she was small and quiet so she hoped she wouldn't really get noticed as she looked at the eggs, of course she was curious, what Weyrbrat wouldn't be plus, there was the Benden Gold in center stage.... she wondered how many of the hatchlings would veer towards Benden refugees due to their mother's heritage.

She saw Carltis..... and that horrid girl Rochelle, moving around the eggs, they seemed to be conversing too and Becka frowned, surely you were supposed to keep quiet? Oh well, it didn't really matter, the candidatemasters would berate them if they needed to. She smiled as she looked at the eggs, surely that biggest one, which wasn't really THAT big at all, was a Gold egg, the Gold mother had certainly placed it where it was going to get the most attention from gazing eyes. She sighed a little as she watched, wondering how Bereck had felt when he'd Impressed Berath, funny how she'd never really asked the man.

She watched the eggs for a few minutes before moving to look at the Crimson's clutch, almost as many as the Gold, was that good for the Crimson... or bad for the Gold when it came to the egg count, was it because the Gold was so small? The smaller size of the eggs too was a concern, because Suunath was small, would the babies prove to be small for their colors too? That would mean any Atypes would also be smaller than average, that might lead to more fatalities there. She mused to herself for a while, something to bring up with Master Bereck perhaps.

She watched as some candidates trickled onto the sands towards the Crimson's clutch for a little while before taking herself out of the Stands and back to the Infirmary. She'd ask Bereck about some of the things she'd pondered.

"Kind of creepy, right? I felt like I was being peeled apart in a highly freaky way." Rochelle shuddered, keeping close to the large man as if the egg would hurt her. Early hatching, hardcore mauling, something like that.

She followed him to the next one eagerly enough, stooping down to touch the pretty speckled shell. Another burst of personality, trembling all over, murmurings inside of her head. She slowly pulled back, eyeing the little thing suspiciously.

"Dunno about that one either. Yeah. Or. Huh. Are they always this interesting?" A little shake of her head and shoulders took away the hug bdragonet personality and she glanced around. "How about the creamy one? Maybe it's less... eh. Enthusiastic?"

And it was! Calm and kind and everything good in the world.

"...yeah, I like this one."

Carltis shrugged. "Pretty much. You can never tell what you're going to meet... I've always found there are some I don't like, and some I do. Trouble with the ones you do like is they get your hopes up. Hu. Still," he shrugged, "big and spotty it is." Probably not something he could have... but hey, it was worth trying on your probably very last chance. What would he do if he didn't Impress? Go back to crafting he supposed but he just wanted so badly to-

He touched the Pacifist Egg, and his building tension and unhappiness ebbed. Whatever it was this one was kind. Probably not his type then even if it was a huge blue not a brown or a bronze. He felt almost as if it was telling him it would look after him.

Straightening up again he smiled a bit to Rochelle. "Yeah. Me too. Whatever it is, I don't think we need to worry about this one mauling people." Feeling much more relaxed than he had a moment ago he indicated a bright orange egg to Rochelle and headed over. This necessitated getting rather close to the large gold egg; Carltis perhaps rather pointedly didn't spare it a glance as he moved to stand before the Swelling Egg.

She rubbed the Pacifest Egg one last time, fond as shards, and smiled as more of the tension drained from her. All but bouncing once more, she nodded. "That one looks good," she agreed, peering at the bright swelling egg. The tips of her fingertips brushed over the shell. It gave her a jolt, eyes widening at the strength of life in it.

"Guh." She said, blinking. Rochelle scooted back from it with a little snort. The gold egg caught her eye in the corners of it and her nose wrinkled again. "One more and then the other clutch."

One last bounce and she snagged his sleeve, tugging towards the Slender egg. Rochelle leaned down to the smooth grey shell. Another slick, cunning thing, a hunting firelizard of a thing. It felt a little oily, creeped up her skin to poke apart her brain. "Nngh--" She pulled back, making a face at it. "Another interesting one."

Niyx

Moving on Niyx approached the Swelling egg reaching out to rest a gentle hand on it's surface as she eyed the bright sunset colors of the shell. It was almost like a painter had coated it in all the colors of their isle. A sense of warmth and calmness washed over her a sort of laid back languid contemplation. The same sort of feeling she had when she was eyeing a new piece of theories and appreciating the innate beauty of such clean calculations or listening to a new harper song.

Reluctantly she pulled back and moved on to The Pacifist egg. Well she certainly wasn't deceptive beyond a good game and a laugh. Stroking it's shell she smiled down at the dragon egg. Well it certainly had a sense of fair play.

Carltis reached out to the Swelling Egg, and a little more tension ebbed from his powerful shoulders. Maybe this was just what he needed; a calm, gentle, kind dragon that could balance his flaws. It was just the right size to be something he could have too.

It was with some regret that he stepped away from the amber egg and followed Rochelle on to the last member of Sunnath's clutch. "I like that one," he commented softly as they drew near, "it was exactly not my sort of person." He could discuss all that with her in detail later though; the Sands were not the place for an in depth back and forth about what kind of dragon might suit each of them....

And interesting one? Carltis reached for the Slender Egg with a touch of wariness. When he laid his hand on the surprisingly smooth shell however he found he rather liked the feelings coming from it. Cunning and confident; that was his kind of person. Maybe this could be the one for him; a bit of subtlety to balance out his sometimes bullheaded approach?

"Very interesting," he agreed quietly with a little smirk as he stepped away from the elongated egg with a bit of a smirk. "A high note to end on, for me anyway. Onward then?" Carltis made a gesture towards the tunnel that led to the crimson clutch as he spoke and then set off across the hot sands. He felt rather more positive moving towards this clutch; the only dragon colour unattainable to him that could be lurking in there was brown, and there was a rather higher chance of crimsons and silvers. The idea of having a female in his head felt strange right now, but he was sure that if one of the red dragons chose him it would seem the most natural thing in the world.

"Your taste in dragons is weird, Carltis. I'm pretty sure you know that already though." No insult lurked in her voice, nothing but wry, friendly amusement. She followed along to the pushed aside crimson clutch, brightening when she saw the small eggs. While she had her eyes set on a green - no option of breeding, small and fast - crimsons were almost as awesome.

Rochelle bowed as deep for Hyweth as she had for Suunanth, hair brushing the sands, and jerked her thumb towards the Look Before You Leap egg. The design made her think of feline claws and lovely while they were at it. She crouched when there and put her hand flat on the shell, confident.

"I don't think it likes me," she said after a moment, that dragons pride filling her chest until near bursting. She smiled anyway, a grin that made dimples and eye crinkles. "But I will get and wear much too revealing clothing in my off time for a week if this kid isn't silver. A week."
