Was it awkward for Eva to show up unannounced? She certainly hoped not. She had just gotten back from some quick training when she realized that there were some new tweets on the Twitter. A quick skim through had revealed the usual conversations between some of her fellow trainees, and then she had spotted the message about Thanksgivings and...well, why not? If no one minded her dropping by, then she would be more than happy to lend a hand.
The first person she looked for was, unsurprisingly, Melvin. After all, he was the one who had sent out the message, and she wanted to see if there was anything she could do to help as well. When she spotted the familiar blond, she moved forward and reached out to clap her hand on his shoulder in a friendly greeting.
"Hey, you! Have anything you need me to do?" There was a pause, and then she turned to eye the kitchen thoughtfully, "Or hey, did you find any canned pumpkin or condensed milk in any of the pantries? I can...make a pie, maybe?" She had been helping her mother with making pumpkin pies since she was young. As a result...it was pretty much the only thing she knew how to make at all.
...Still, it would fit quite nicely with the Thanksgiving atmosphere. The only question was whether the ingredients were available.

"It's about the ancient American tradition of pretending to be friends with people so you can steal their s**t," Harrison said cheerfully, "and then you celebrate by eating a ton of food. No idea what Melvin managed to scrounge up. It may just be Pepsi and Doritos. We're setting up for a fancyass banquet regardless."
Rep had gone quiet.
"It's uh, supposed to be time you spend with your family," he offered.

What he wanted to say was stop hitting him, playful or not and a lot else besides. Instead he averted his gaze as if looking away from some mortally scandalous and offensive sight, his stomach twisting anxiously.
As Candace said hello to him directly, he dragged his gaze back to her but didn't actually say a word. He even almost lied and said no, he knew all about what Thanksgiving was already that he was the expert on Thanksgiving just for the sake of being contrary. Just to avoid feeling like a little boy who needed an education. But he decided against it. Instead simply resorting to the tried and tested non-committal grunt and shrug combo.
Harrison though, got his honest attention. He'd never been to a serious meal, pepsi and doritos or not, and he wasn't even sure what it might entail. At the mention of family he almost playfully sniped "Well what are all these bastards doing here?" but felt even /that/ might be in bad taste for the occasion.
His thoughts went to his stash of booze in its lonely room. He'd think about it.
He didn't take his eyes off Harrison. "Family." was all he said.

Sasha rooted around in the drawers and produced a paring knife before nod-smiling at Ofie.
"Oh, absolutely. We've got this under control."
More smiles, more nods.
The instant the redhead was gone, Sasha turned to Wash.
A huge smile parted her lips, predatory and dangerous.
Wash carefully placed the potato and peeler on the counter before moving a little closer to Sasha. He glanced back - Ofie was still gone. Good. He turned his head to gaze down at the woman before him with a lazy, lopsided grin, and put one arm on each side of the counter around her; leaning in close but not touching.
"You was sayin'? Show me how you do it, then." His eyes crinkled and his smile grew.

"Th' peeler's a lil' big but it really gets in there," Sasha's voice trembled with suppressed laughter as she mimicked Wash in her best Wash-voice.
She held a straight face for about .9 seconds.
"You're shameless!"
Loud, raucous laughter burbled up from her chest, ringing out and likely carrying into the next room. She clapped her hands over her mouth and snort-laughed through her nose, shaking her head at the man that stood over her.
"Did you really say that, Wash!"
Sasha was trying to keep a straight face, she really was, but it was difficult.
"Sit your a** down. I'll teach you how to peel a potato."
Wash started laughing too, a deep belly laugh that left him with tears in the corner of his eyes. He straightened, wiping his face with his hand and unable to contain an embarassed grin.
"Sorry, we ain't all as good at dancin' around with words as you are, miss thing." Words. Gestures. Perfumed slips of paper. No, Wash was nowhere near as subtle; he was a bit more, ah, blunt. Still chuckling, he looked around the kitchen before finally spotting a forlorn stool. He dragged to over to her obediently, sitting down and lounging against the counter.
"Yes missus Sasha," he intoned. Even sitting in a stool, he was just barely at eye level.
Posted: Tue Nov 20, 2012 11:23 pm
Sasha waited until he'd returned with the stool - a familiar one, she'd sat on it for hours while peeling potatoes with Marcus long ago - before handing him the small, slender, flexible paring knife. It took some time to find the second stool. A few moments later she was seated beside him, her own paring knife in hand.
"I've told this story before. Potato peeling is something of an art. I never had a hand-peeler growing up. We peeled with a knife. Less waste - you have more control over where the knife goes, more control over applying pressure. Just go slow, and don't cut yourself."
She pressed the sharp edge of the knife into the peel of the potato.
"I used to play a game when I was told to peel potatoes, or apples. Anything, really. I'd try to see how long I could get the peel before it broke." Sasha was making quick work of the potato, the peel curling longer and longer until it hit the floor. Soon enough the potato was naked, and Sasha set it aside. "The faster you can peel, the better - potatoes will brown if they're left sitting out."
She laughed softly, reaching for another potato.
"I don't have a thing for peeling vegetables, I promise."
Hazel was late, as usual. Her hair was even more voluminous and messier than usual though. Probably from the surprise she had shoved in there.
"I'M HERE! I'M HERE! DON'T START EATING WITHOUT ME!" she shouted as she came busting into the room. "Melvin, I got your text! Where's Melvin?" her big doe-eyes scanned the room for a tall strawberry blonde hunter. "Oh, there you are!" Hazel was excited. She couldn't remember the last time she had a real thanksgiving dinner. She was definitely ready for some turkey. Oh, and make new friends with other hunters too, of course.
"I didn't know what you needed so I made a bunch of paper turkeys," without any warning, Hazel began to violently shake her head, causing her frizzy hair to waft back and forth like a dancing tangled mess, eventually flinging out wads and wads of crumpled brown construction paper... And a few other miscellaneous items.
Finally, she lifted her head up with her hands and gave a very proud look at Melvin, "This is how I remember making them in elementary school. Where should I put them?"
((*Special note: I really did trace my foot... But resized it so it wouldn't stretch the page THAT much))

Jerry had been stewing, quietly and mechanically folding each turkey with the same intense concentration he gave practicing his scales and working Roar's aim for maximum impact. Don't think about Sasha wafting about the kitchen. Don't think about Wash's cold shoulder. Candace and Rep and Harri were off having fun across the room, stare at them intently instead when he wasn't staring at napkins.
Finally a fresh burst of voice and red caught his attention, spotting the tiny Moon with recollection. "MISS HAZEL!" He suddenly waved a bit too enthusiastically, "I COULD USE HELP WITH DECORATION!!" And conversation oh god, he needed conversation. And besides, the last time they had spent any sizable amount of time together, he had certainly not been at his best.
If a bit distracted.
Don't think about her. He was cleaned up. Wearing his best remaining (if a bit bright) shirt. Shaved and trimmed. He had his mind set. He was a new man. Awoowoowoo and all that.
Before anyone approached, his hands dipped down under the table to pull the flask from his back pocket and take a quick sip before tucking it away again. He hadn't touched it in days, but it always found itself somewhere on his person.
In case of emergencies.
And this was an emergency.

Eva can come help decorate too if you want! He shouted the invitation! smile
Melvin turned when Eva showed up and smiled. "We could use all the help we can get. I'm pretty sure we have cans of milk and pumpkin. I got anything that sounded thanksgiving-ish when I went scavenging in the pantries." If it was canned and could survive for a while, they had it. "You can - " He paused when he heard laughter from the kitchen. "Well, join the party in there I guess." He smiled and then noticed Ofelia step out of the kitchens.
"Hey, how are things going in there? Need anything?" He asked, wanting to make sure the cooks had all they needed.
Then he was greeted by a loud and very excitable Hazel who seemed to have the entire Arts and Crafts section in her freckled arms. Looking at the perky ginger, he smiled and picked out one of the turkeys. Was that...traced from a foot? Well, I guess hand turkeys were out this year. He also was a bit worried about feet paper, but right now he couldn't be too choosy.
"That's great, Hazel. We could use a lot more decorations. If you want, you - " To which Jerry called her over.
"Well, you could go to Jerry and you two can decide how to spruce this place up to feel more festive." And Jerry seemed a bit mopey. Too mopey for a holiday. Melvin was keeping his eyes on the booze from time to time just in case.

Jordan was a little late, but there was a good reason for it. Said reason had been carefully hidden for months, patiently hoarded; it had been difficult to convince himself to let go of it, but this was Thanksgiving, and the portals had been down for way too long. Still, he wasn't giving it to just anyone. He waved to the guys as he came in, nodded absently in Jerry's general direction - what was Jerry doing, anyway? Something with napkins - and headed over to where Melvin was directing things.
He produced a small blue foil bag from one of his pockets. "Donation," he said. "Should be enough for one urn, anyway." The bag read 100% Blue Mountain Coffee - Certified Organic. "Careful with it," Jordan added. From what he knew of Melvin, the guy was well enough organized that the coffee wouldn't go missing or get forgotten.
Melvin saw Jordan come in, and smiled as he came over. "Hey, Jordan." He said, before a blue packet was presented to him. Donation? He hadn't been getting too much of those, but everyone was pitching in in their own way and really making this happen. It was touching. Wash with the spices. Hazel with her turkeys. Jordan with his -
"Oh." Coffee. ACTUAL coffee - which he couldn't say about the coffee served as Deus as it was more mud water than anything. Melvin was tempted to hoard it for himself, but shook his head. "Thanks. Really. This would probably be great for dessert." Real coffee and pie. Sounded like heaven when they didn't have much in Deus to actually enjoy.

The year had been filled with a lot of drama, a lot of hardship, and a lot of...well...a lot of stuff. It was hard to accept the fact that Thanksgiving was already here. It was too soon, right? It felt too soon.
The death trainee found her way into the kitchen as quickly and as quietly as possible, hurriedly getting to work on the food supply Melvin, was it? Right. That Melvin had gathered. She had never met him before that day, only sightings here and there. But organizing all of this in hopes of bring the island together, or even if he just wanted a good meal for the holidays, in some way earned him a gold star.
Minerva slid onto an unused counter space with the goods she snagged on her way in and began chopping away. From the looks of things, some of the preparation had already been done, and there were a good handful of cooks to do the job. While Minerva was certainly proud of her cooking skills, she wondered if perhaps she might be of better use elsewhere.
"So..." The trainee said only loud enough for anyone close to her to overhear. "What are we making?" Aside from the turkey, there were tons of side dishes at their disposal. Or...well if they had the ingredients.

"Ah--excellent! Thanks, Melvin--I'll go take a look at the canned goods and see if I can contribute to the feast."
She offered the blond a wave before moving away, pausing briefly when another trainee burst in and announced her arrival. Chuckling, her gaze slid to Jerry next, and she threw a hand up to wave at the man. "I'm going to drop into the kitchen for a bit, but if there's nothing for me to do, mind if I come and help with the decorations?"
She offered him a friendly grin before turning and moving into the kitchen. However, to her surprise, she found herself walking right into someone else who had just arrived--Minerva--and she stumbled back a few steps, managing to catch herself before she fell.
"Whoops, sorry about that!" There was a pause, and then she smiled at the other young woman, "Wanna see if we can scrounge together some things for a pie?"
