The portal gave Ferros half a moment's pause; it was very convenient that they could go right now - but Nacht had been planning to bring them in on this technique, and he seemed to be a thorough planner. Ferros squashed his doubts and followed, ducking his head under the shining edge of the hole in the air.
Jynna stepped through last, glancing back once at the dry grasses and twisted trees of Halloween.

Through the portal, Deus was fairly bustling as always, such were the downsides of only having one major portal room up and running. It was bizzare for Nacht to stay in golem while on the island and it took a bit of adjusting to the extra height, levelling an irritable gaze at anyone stupid enough to give him curious looks. When would people ever learn that creatures coming through the portals were usually in the more than capable hands of death? The big guy was drawing a lot of stares and he made it a priority to guide them swiftly out of the entryway and outside.
Tracey on the other side looked excited, thrilled that the people here could actually see them, smiling in what he hoped was a friendly way but which really showed off more teeth than many people were comfortable with.
Outside he eyed the foreign sky open mouthed. "Jaaack. It is the human world." he hadn't been sure what he expected, but his imagination had been different. He was fixated by the vibrant blue sky.
Nacht gave them both a fond smile. "Being out here too long will drain you, come we have a hospitality suite set up here for you that is suited for our kind."

Humans. These were really humans. They looked like reapers, Ferros thought curiously; but reapers had their weapons or familiars, and humans did not - or so they'd been taught. He wasn't sure what to make of the stares, some puzzled, some bordering on hostile. Were these really friends? He kept tight control over his tail, moving very carefully and staying close to Tracey. He didn't want to break anything or hurt anyone his first time here. That would be a terrible way to greet new acquaintances.
His eyes flickered in the brightness of the world outside, and he craned his head back to stare at the rich blue dome overhead. "Is that the sun?" he asked. "I can't look at it. It's very bright." He liked the warmth, though.
"I'll just go on ahead and tell them to get the guest rooms ready," Jynna said brightly, and winked. She trotted off hurriedly.

Tracey nodded at Nacht but didn't immediately join him, too preoccupied by the sky, nodding at Ferros. "I think so." he too found it very hard to look at anything so bright, eyes narrowed to slits and even then impossible. Somehow the fact it was too hard to look directly at made it all the more tempting to try. It was all so alien and strange, rich colours even cloaked in fog.
He gasped. "Ferr look at the trees." Verdant and green rather than black and bare of leaves. He couldn't remember seeing anything like them. He edged a little nearer the taller boil. It was fascinating but terrifying in some ways and even the humans, supposedly their friends, caused strange instinctual stirrings he couldn't place and seemed to hint at some long lost memory older than he was.
Nacht didn't seem like a comfort here, he'd been here before and was at ease, it was easier to be near Ferros who was likewise fascinated and a little anxious.
"It's kind of beautiful. All of it." he said. Even the buildings were so different from anything he'd seen.
Nacht waited patiently by - thinking of promotion.

"It's so green, like swamps. But brighter." Ferros stared at the trees. "They have green leaves. That's so strange." Everything was different. He wasn't sure how Nacht treated it all so nonchalantly. Perhaps they, too, would come to be familiar with this world; right now, though, the prospect seemed intimidating rather than exciting.
Still, he would not let Nacht see his anxiety. He rumbled softly and puffed steam. "I am impressed," he allowed.

Tracey smiled, seeming to take heart from Ferros, perched on some manic precipice between fear and excitement like he'd never felt. The dragon was his rock, and his steadiness seemed to rebalance the fallen angel, stopped him from teetering off into panic. He latched onto Ferros' arm firmly, claws no danger his metal plating.
"I bet some of the adults have never been here." he said in what he hoped was a confident tone. "They'd be so jealous."
Nacht cleared his throat and gave what he hoped was a hospitable smile. "Would you like to go inside? I can show you around a little if you'd like."
Tracey nodded. The sky was pretty but much too big and bright to be out here long, it felt like it might pull them both away.

Ferros took Tracey's hand. "We are certainly having an unusual experience," he said. "We will learn a great deal."
He nodded to Nacht. "I would like that." The sky was beautiful, but it was also overwhelming, everything new and unfamiliar combining to set him on edge. Indoors, some of the newness would be contained, the brilliant saturated colors of the human world safely outside.

"An adventure" Tracey reassured.
Nacht turned and headed back towards the labs building and Tracey followed. The hunters there were primarily from the intelligence divisions - they were much more accomodating and friendly to the students, in particular Nacht who some of them seemed to recognise.
In the labs it was sterile and bright and Tracey found himself torn two ways. Part of him liked the brightness, the shiny clean floors and painted walls, part of him hated it, there were no shadows here, nowhere to hide and nothing that sung to his nature.
"Here you go you two." Nacht said, clipping on a metal bracelet. "These work something like pins here, required in case of accidental natural forming and the like, the pins don't always function the same in the human world. You only require them while you are here."
Tracey didn't even question this, donning the cuff obligingly, Nacht was their friend. There was a momentary sapping sensation but it passed.

The humans in the building Nacht led them to seemed friendlier, and a little of Ferros's tension eased. Perhaps the ones near the portal had only been startled. The environment was more to Ferros's liking as well, though he would have liked a bit more clutter and dirt; but it was nicely artificial, well constructed, a good nest.
He too allowed the bracelet to be clipped around his wrist with no fuss. His natural form was large and destructive, and accidentally losing his humanoid form would cause quite a mess. He could wreak havoc in some other place, when they were more familiar with this world. The moment of weakness passed quickly, and Ferros examined the bracelet curiously. "What sort of magic is this?"
A skinny human male wearing a pair of glasses and carrying a thick file folder stepped into the doorway. "Nacht, Jynna asked me to tell you that everything's ready for our new guests, you can bring them in whenever you want. It's gonna be a little while before the process can be started, so you can show them the rooms."
Matt smirked faintly at Nate, well aware that the other man couldn't afford to get out of his golem yet. "You and your friends are welcome here."

Nacht smiled. "It's called runic energy. It's rare old knowledge, a unique blend of human magic and our own. It is capable of crossing borders that even we cannot. It goes all the way back to when our kind and humans lived together and worked together. " he waved a hand. "Almost beyond memory now. But they keep it alive here. And rarely, very rarely let members of my family, friends of my family, people trusted and clever enough, join in it."
As Matt came back he got a look of absolute jealousy. b*****d had gotten out of his golem and was now his usual insufferable self. "Fantastic." he drawled, crossing his arms.
Tracey moved over to inspect the new guy as if he was some interesting new creature. "You are a human?"
Nacht muttered. "Barely" under his breath.

"Fascinating," Ferros said, his eyes flickering in a rapid blink. He examined the bracelet carefully. "I want to know more." His curiosity about humans and their unknown magic was quickly pushing his apprehension and unease back.
Matt smiled easily at Tracey and turned in a circle. "Genuine human," he drawled, knowing how much it would piss Nate off. "Been working with Nacht for a few years now. Quick learner, that boil."

Nacht gave Ferros a gracious nod. "There will be all the time in the world to learn more about it once we are adapted to this world. It is a simple and efficient procedure entirely dependent on willpower the level of success involved. The more you wish to learn the more effective it is!" He steepled his claws. "I can already tell you will be an avid student."
Tracey poked Matt with a claw as if he would feel somehow different to the creatures of Halloween. "No wings or anything. Like a reaper."
Nate gave Matt a deadpan look. "Matt's a bit of a slow example of a human but his heart is in the right place." He wandered over to barge through the doorway past the other man with just a little more shove than was perhaps necessary. Smug b*****d. "This way please~ I'll show you to our rooms."
Tracey followed along eagerly, curious to see what kind of rooms they had here.

"We're pretty resilient, though," Matt chirped. He could hear 'Nova snickering in his head. You no bleed because me, ungrateful b*****d, I ruin you next hottie dream. His smirk didn't budge even at Nate's little jab - after all, he'd gotten out of his golem.
Ferros followed Nacht and Tracey, his movements more confident now that he had interesting possibilities to think about. Nacht had not only made good on his promises, he'd done so in spectacular fashion. Real humans! And they would be staying in the human world, learning new things, and Tracey was happy. This had been a good decision after all.

At first the room seemed empty, but on closer inspection, there was a boy floating upsidedown casually over one of the bunks, treating the ceiling like it was a mattress.
His leg was folded over his knee, and he seemed absorbed in a DS.
He peeked briefly over it as the door creaked open.

Nacht stepped into the room ahead of the others, pausing to raise a brow at the ghostly boy. He'd almost forgotten they had other students around, but from what he recalled about this particular candidate, he shouldn't cause too much of an issue. He smiled sweetly and moved to sit on one of the bunks, addressing Ferros and Tracey. "In these rooms we will not suffer the usual degradation we might face outside over time. And there is food provided as long as we are here. Its not half bad either!"
Tracey skipped in to investigate, the interior design wasn't quite the sort he was used to back home, spartan and simple with not even a hint of cobwebs or dust. It was strange but not in an entirely negative fashion. The boy though caught his eye. "Ohhh there are others here?" , it was exciting to think that Halloween knew nothing about this magical place, no doubt the boogeys would try and spoil it. "Hello!" he chirped in a much too cheerful fashion, while waving enthusiastically at B0nez.
