xxxxxNikolai smelt the smoke first and then saw the fire before entering camp. He deposited the deer on the ground and smiled at Anastasia. "I'm impressed," he said, legitimately surprised by the princess's skill. He watched the flames for a moment before seeing the bandages and Anastasia's hand. "What happened?" He moved toward he bag to look for a rope he could use to hang the deer while he skinned it. Finding it, he tossed it up on a stronger branch and tied one end to the deer's hind legs. He then hoisted it a couple feet above the ground and tied the free end of the rope to the tree trunk.

Ana looked over at Nikolai behind her once she heard his voice. Hearing his comment, she smirked,"What? Didn't think I could do it?" She said, ending with a smile. She blinked at him then looking down at her hand. "Oh that.. It's nothing." She said then went about her own business for a bit. She looked back over at Maverick and stood up walking over to him. Opening the large saddle bag she pulled out two large, wool horse blankets. Setting one to the side, she draped one over Maverick's back. She looked over at Rain and gently laid on on top of her too. It was going to be cold that night and she didn't want the horses to freeze. She would have felt bad too if she took care of Maverick and not Rain as well. She smiled softly at the grey mare, stroking her head before giving them both apples from her bag which they both happily ate. She returned over to the fire and added another leg before sitting down, pulling her fur cloak around her shoulders more to keep her heat in.

xxxxxNikolai chuckled and shook his head. "I assumed you could start a fire," he said. "I just didn't think you would take the time to set it up properly." He grinned and began working on skinning and gutting the deer. While he did this, he heard Anastasia moving behind him and turned to see her place a blanket over Rain. "Thank you," he said, mentally scolding himself for forgetting to pack one. He watched the princess feed his mare an apple and smiled. Returning to the task at hand, it was not long before he had a decent-sized chuck of venison cooking over the fire. "Could you keep turning this for a moment?" he asked, nodding toward the stick the meat was hanging on. Once Anastasia took a hold of it, Nikolai got up to dispose of the unneeded deer parts. He buried everything a good distance away just in case a bear or some other wild animal smelt the blood and wanted to see where it came from. He then returned to camp and dug through his bag for some spices to add to the venison.

(On phone so no format ) Ana looked back at him and smiled," No other way to do it. She turned bacm to the fire to warm her hand. Rubbing her palms together, normally the only part of her body that ever got cold was her hands and feet. Her eyes turned to watch Nikolai gut out the deer. It didnt bother her all that much but she wasnt to fond of the sight. Her lips curved up into a smile and nodded,"Youre wcome." She said then nodded her head, taking the stick with meat on it amd holding it over the fire. Steadily turning it, she watched Nikolai go take the unneeded parts outside of camp then looked back at the flames licking around the venison.

xxxxxNikolai finished taking care of the venison and removed it from the fire. He pulled out a small bowl he had packed and tore off pieces of meat to put into it. After placing some in his mouth, he handed the bowl to Anastasia and put the rest of the meat back over the flames. "Sorry, but I don't usually pack plates and silverware," he told the princess after swallowing. He smirked then leaned back against the log he had moved closer to the fire. "I hope that's decent enough. Can't be too fancy with limited supplies. Give me a real kitchen and I'll cook you something even better."

Ana sat back as Nikolai went to work on the venison. She took the bowl from Nikolai and smiled. "Thank you. " She said then grabbed a few pieces of meat and handed it back to him as he returned it over on the fire. She raised it to her lips, not before blowing on it first to cool off, then taking a bite. She hadn't had deer meet in a while, then she remembered it tasted pretty good; and she was right. Finishing her first strip she looked at Nikolai and shook her head. "Don't be, it's fine. I don't mind." She said honestly then finished the rest of the meat. Wiping her mouth with the backside of her hand, she laid them folded together in her lap and looked over at the Nikolai. " What is the best you could cook? Given that you would have all the supplies necessary for it. "

xxxxxNikolai accepted the bowl and took some more venison, popping it into his mouth like it were no more than popcorn at a movie theater. "Well," he started, rubbing his fingers on the side of his pants before setting the bowl down between them. "I would have to say that I can cook a pretty mean steak. I grill it over a barbeque and serve it with potatoes and veggies... Mmm..." He smiled and started thinking about the last time he had really taken the time to cook up a huge meal. He never had to feed more than himself these days since he mom was on a strict hospital diet and his sister was off at school eating that food...

Ana propped her knees up, wrapping her arms lazily around her legs. She set her chin atop her knee and looked attentively at Nikolai while he spoke. She didn't know what it was... But she liked hearing his voice..listening to him speak.. A small smile played across her lips. "I love steak.. My dad used to cook a lot, then he just didn't anymore. Shame, really. But when I was younger my mother used to teach me all kinds of stuff. Seasonings, how to cook certain things and for how long, sauteing...All of it. " She said then looked down. Simultaneously she started playing with her hands, then remembered the gash on her right one that had been wrapped up. At that point, she did her very best not to show her small wince at the pressure she had accidentally put onto it.

xxxxxNikolai listened attentively to Anastasia, surprised that he was actually learning something new; he knew so much about her from the news and her father that he did not think it was possible. "Well, if we're still together when we reach the next town, I will have to make some for you. I know a couple that lives there who would be more than happy to let me use their grill." He smiled but it immediately disappeared when he heard the princess wince. "Did you clean you wound before wrapping it?"

Ana looked up at Nikolai and smiled. "If? Does that mean there's the possibility of us not making the journey to the next town?" She asked in a playful tone before her smile dropped. She shifted in the position she was sitting in and rolled her shoulder. "What wound?" She asked, her tone genuine as she portrayed acting completely oblivious to what he meant. Oh she knew what he meant, she just didn't want him to worry.

"I'm sure you would prefer this situation more if I were a woman so you could talk about... things that women do." Nikolai took a couple more pieces of venison and watched the princess shrug off her would. "Right," he said. "Just don't complain to me when it becomes infected and causes you even more pain."

Ana chuckled at Nikolai's response. " Oh I don't mind your company. " She said then pursed her lips and sighed. She huffed, standing up and walking over to Maverick. She rummaged through the saddle bag until she pulled out the medium sized bottle of vodka. She went back over to the campfire and sat back down in her spot. She unraveled the bandage on her hand, then carefully opened the top of the bottle. Holding her hand over the dirt and off her lap, she poured about a two table spoons of vodka over her hand. She winced, hissing under her breathe from the stinging. She exhaled slowly before twisting the cap back on, then tore the dirty part of the cloth/bandage off and re-wrapped it. She then turned her head to look at Nikolai. "Happy?" She questioned him.

xxxxxNikolai watched Anastasia curiously as she got up to dig through her saddle bag. When she pulled out the bottle of vodka, Nikolai raised an eyebrow and had to put more venison in his mouth in an attempt to keep from laughing. "No, I'm not," he said, smiling as he let out a soft chuckle. "Why would I happy about you wasting precious vodka when I have antiseptic and sterilized bandages in my bags? Although, you did put on quite a show there so I guess I'm happy I witnessed that little piece of entertainment."

Ana's eyes narrowed once Nikolai said he wasn't. What had she done wrong now? She didn't have any rubbing alcohol, so plain old vodka was just as good. Though she hated to do it, she had to admit it would be quite bad if it became infected. Ana's eyes then widened when Nikolai stated he had the needed supplies. You could have said something! Lucky I have two bottles, but now you get none. " Ana said then stuck her tongue out at him and smiled. She carefully took a warm piece of venison from the bowl, chewing on the hot meat before swallowing. She reached for the Vodka bottle again and took a short swig out of it.

Nikolai smirked and shook his head then frowned when Anastasia said she would not be sharing her vodka. "That's fine," he said, closing his eyes as he reclined against his log a little more. "I wouldn't want to ask you to share anything of yours after I got you out of that trap, set up camp, and hunted for and cooked dinner." Opening one of his eyes to look at the princess's reaction, he smirked and folded his hands over his stomach as he closed his eye again.
