I think whatever theme or shop idea that the Fundraising Committee goes with, will overlap with any idea person pixel in it come up with. As essentially, if one person could claim food as their shop, there would be only one food shop in the mini shop forum (which isnt the case). See, they all pretty much have the same basis for items, so if you think there might be a problem here as to what overlaps or copies I really wouldn't worry about it.
The pixel shop we are opening is a limited time thing and as soon as the ball is over with, it will probably never be used again. See, I had planned it to where the artists could just take back their artwork, and probably open up their own themed shop. I figured this would be much like the art shop, where yes the art is that of the artist, but the money earned from it goes entirely to the ball (which is why the art shops are volunteer based). The only difference of course is the fact that this artwork can be sold in mass quantities and not specialized to the person buying it, much like art is.
I buy from a lot of mini shops. They do not all have the same bases. For example, here are cakes that I got from different shops...
When you see items that look suspiciously a lot like the items from another shop, either the original shop was auction off thus run by a new owner or someone is engaging in art theft. [There was one person in Mini Shops very recently that got her shop shut down multiple times before she figured out that you cannot reference other people's art as someone will just come along and report the thread for art theft.]
Even if you completely ignore the large one, the smaller cakes do not all look like they were done by the same person. If I were to post a sixth cake, it should be obvious if it was one of the above artists or someone else.
I am thinking that there's some confusion going on then because a couple of posts up you said that it might be a good idea to sell off the shop at the end... that would mean that everyone involved was essentially conscripted into doing art for a shop where they're also being forced to relinquish all ownership rights because you cannot auction off a shop and allow artists to retain ownership.

Are we definitely working with all pre-mades? If not, it might be a cool idea to have a section where users can become "authors" of a book. It could be as simple as a book titled "Journal of __________" on the cover. Just a thought, I think that would be pretty cool.
I don't think it would benefit to sell the shop at the end of this, that way artists will be able to take their pixels back at the end of it.
And I figured we could have mostly premadfes, with a small section for buildables (the book and bookend ideas), so we can easily put the author your own book in there.

You little genius, you! I was just looking for people to help out with a few freebie pixels for our hangout thread xD Completely unrelated to the pixel shop, though..

A poll would be nice, but I also had an idea concerning premade pixels.
I remember roaming the guild's forums and seeing something about an advertising/hangout type thread. A possible theme as like a bed and breakfast, or cafe type shop. If that goes through, maybe pixel artists can offer premade food and beverages that people can buy and such?
that way you can just focus on deciding between buildables and avatar pixels.
basis not bases. Basis as in ideas, I realize that the bases are all different but you'll find the same food types in all of the food shops. ie cakes, ice creams, drinks.
As this isnt even a solid idea, I think I may just want to scrap it out and not even attempt to do it.
Unless anyone wanted to pick this up, and has a better idea of how to do it,

I actually think it's a really good idea but it might be too time consuming. Perhaps we can add a pixel section to the art shop? Or we can just sell a few things at the Four Colors? I like the Build a Book idea because I haven't seen it done elsewhere, but it might already be done. (Sachie would most likely know better than I). Maybe we could start small, build up a customer base and then expand?

I thought having pixels to go with the hangout would be pretty nifty. like our own personalized emoticons and stuff like that :p
I personally love using emoticons and small icons, it happens to be a plus if I can find cute ones that aren't as popular as most, so I begin to start a sort of temporary trend of emoticons in threads > u <

Yes! I'm hoping to get some unique ones~
Let's not scrap this idea! I think it has a lot of good ideas and it will be a new idea for the ball. We've done art shops many times before and, though they are still a great place to start, one of the great things about the ball is getting to expand and evolve as gaia does. Pixel art is a growing trend on Gaia and I think it would be a shame if we didn't offer a shop to sell it.
We seem to have at least a few artists interested in it too. So instead of scrapping the idea let's just start fresh!
Jessie, if you are feeling over extended with this then I will take over planning the Pixel shop for you smile
We could do it sort of like the collective, that would bring in more pixel artists. it just, i dont expect just two or even one person to do all the art for this sort of shop.

Mmkay, well like I said I'd be more than happy to take this off your hands! I may even decide to wait a bit seeing as how we have quite a few shops on the go right now. I'd like to start a few more once the committees are settled down and people are more accustomed to the time management that it will take to balance all the projects with RL, too. Less chance anyone will get overstretched or stressed out.
So far for the future I have a tektek shop idea and we can add the pixel shop to that too. Perhaps by that time we'll have a few more people interested.
And for now we are going to have some pixel art for the Hangout thread so we're still putting pixel artists to work smile

Sorry to say, I'm not actually a pixel artist. Only graphics and CG art.
it's something I want to experiment with soon, but not at the moment. I just happen to love pixel art and stumbled upon this planning thread XD
but if this does eventually get set up, I'd love to help out in any way I can c:

Oh, I see xD Well maybe when we do the shop you will be interested in tinkering with it, or you could perhaps do the graphics for it, or you can be one of our consultants~ I don't get pixel art so it'll be a big help to have people who know about it helping to plan the shop.

I thought we had Sachie, Pinkie, and possibly Vyite volunteering?
Fifteen men on a dead cack-handed deck ape's chest Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum Drink and the devil had done for the rest Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. We wrapped 'em all in a mains'l tight With twice ten turns of a hawser's bight And we heaved 'em over and out of sight, With a Yo-Heave-Ho! and a fare-ye-well And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell Ten fathoms deep on the road to Davy Jones's locker, Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!Fifteen men on a dead cack-handed deck ape's chest Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum Drink and the devil had done for the rest Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. I'll make a couple of donation items in my own pixel shop... meaning there is no set price and people get them only by donating however much they want. I'll collect the gold and periodically forward it over... I assume to the annual ball mule.
I'd rather do that then make a bunch of items that later get auctioned off or has a year moratorium where only the fundraising committee can do anything with them.
