Wolfwood smiled slightly, watching the younger female slowly let go of his hand. "Are you sure?" he asked, unmoving. He didn't want to be far away in case she changed her mind. In fact, he resolved to stick close to her so he could take her hand or wrap an arm around her in case she started to get antsy like she was when he first bumped into her.

Menolly did not want to worry him either, and that was what made her able to let go and nod. There was no danger and Wolfwood wouldn't go far, so just maybe it would be fine for the next few minutes, "Yeah, but do not go far, please, okay?" If he was close then just maybe she'd be okay.

"I wasn't planning to," Wolfwood answered, giving her a reassuring smile. "I'll be close. Just go on and do your own thing, ok?" He gently patted her on the back then crouched down and started to dig in the sand, his tail twitching as he worked.

Menolly smiled back and kneeled down searching through the cold sand for shells and stones. There was a lot of clear quarts, but that was part of what made up sand in most places so she did not give it much heed besides looking them over once before she kept searching.

Wolfwood really wasn't paying much attention to what he dug up, keeping his eyes on Menolly instead. He was so focused on making sure the female angel was alright, that he almost didn't see the pretty rock sitting on top of the small mound of sand he had pushed aside. He just happened to glance at it and blinked, plucking the stone from the sand and studying it curiously. It was almost the same shade of dusty rose as Menolly's torso. Smiling, he polished it up some then straightened and moved up behind Menolly, bending over her so he could hold the stone in her line of sight. "Here. For you."

Menolly looked up at Wolfwood first, then her golden eyes went to what he held out to her. Reaching out, she touched the stone, and a bit of Wolfwood's hand for comfort. "Oooo." Her voice held wonder, the stone was lovely and she was surprised to have it given to her.

She just never expected anything to be given to her, no real reason why, she just never did. "It is so lovely, thank you." She practly whispered that out as the look of wonder and appercation for the lovely stone stuck on her expression.

Wolfwood inwardly chuckled at Menolly's wonderment, thinking that she looked especially cute all wide-eyed like that. "I thought you might like it." When she actually formed words, he smiled brightly. "You're very welcome, kiddo," Wolfwood told her, resting his free hand on the top of her head for a second.

Menolly gently took the stone in her hand admiring it for the kindness of Wolfwood for giving it to her as much as its own beauty. When he put his hand on her head, he got all her attention. She smiled to him, even happier for his touch then to receive a gift, though the gift was a very close second. He was so nice, she really was enjoying this time with her new friend.

Drawing the stone closer to her, she treasured the gift of kindness and generosity

"So, have you had any luck finding stones? I've only found the one so far," he told Menolly, crouching down next to her. He smiled over at her then smoothed the sand in front of him and started to doodle with his index finger, flicking his gaze to the female every so often.

Menolly answered, "I have not found anything yet." But she did not sound the least bit upset about it. With him so close, she felt comfortable with her hunting for stones.

With luck, she uncovered a speckled peach cone shapped shell. Picking it up, with an exclamtion of glee, she held it flat on the plam of her hand while she admired it. A second she gave a small cry of surprise and threw jerked her hand back against her body, and she also hugged on to Wolfwood's arm seeking more comfort then just having him beside her.

She looked on in shock as the shell begain to scuttle away. Blinking, she examiened her hand, and the welt that the shell's inhabadent left behind. It was and angry red but there was no blood. Relaxing, she said softly, "The shell had teeth, not a very nice shell, indeed." She did not know it, but she had picked up a hermit crab and the crab was not happy about being picked up.

Wolfwood looked over at Menolly when she had first found the shell and he smiled at her, turning back to his own search. Then he jumped when he heard the female cry out, blinkblinking down at her as she clung to his arm. He wrapped his free arm around her and comfortingly patted her back, looking down when she examined her hand. He caught sight of the red welt as she spoke and he smiled slightly, turning a bit and watching the hermit crab as it scuttled off. "Actually, you picked up a hermit crab. They make their homes in empty shells. That one must not have liked being picked up and it pinched you with one of it pincers. Here, let's go soak it in the lake for a little while and then I'll take you to my house and get that all bandaged up. Ok?"

Menolly felt better, after his arm was around her, and had not thought of her hand's pain until he spoke to her on the subject. Naturally, she began to deny that she needed any help. It was her nature to worry over everyone else's wound and pretend hers did not exist.

However, her own will to do so was swayed because Wolfwood knew, thus saying she was fine would sound more like a lie, and he wanted to help take care of her wound. His want over rode her objections to worry being put on her. Looking to the hermit crab as it dug, she said to it, "Sorry, Hermit, I did not mean to disturb you." Menolly thought that the crab's name was Hermit.

Looking up Wolfwood, she nodded and smiled softly, "Okay." She'd allow help without a struggle this time.

Wolfwood smiled and hugged Menolly a little tighter. "I'm sure Hermit forgives you, Menolly. Now let's see to that hand of yours," he said, taking her uninjured hand and walking her down to the edge of the lake. He crouched and motioned for her to do the same then he dipped her hand into the soothing water and gently scrubbed at the welt with some of the fine sand from the lakebed. When he was finished, he rinsed off her hand then bade her stand up and follow him to his home.

The hug was erasing any thought of the discomfort in her hand. Menolly watched him care for her hand, and did what he wanted her to without a second thought. It was amazing to her, just to watch someone take care of her. Sure her Momma had when she got hurt before, but this was not the same. Maybe it was the cold water, or the sand, but her hand kind of had a pleasant tingly feeling as he worked on it.

When he stood up she also stood up, lightly brushing herself off, but not really minding what sand decided to cling to her. She gave a quick look out for Hermit and said, while looking at Wolfwood, "Thank you for taking care of my hand." She'd thank him again, of course, when he was done with what ever else he would do. She just wanted to say it now that her wonder and amazement was starting to subside.

Wolfwood smiled and took Menolly's uninjured hand, leading her away from the lake and towards the trees. "No problem, kiddo. I suggested we go digging for shells and stones. If I hadn't, you wouldn't have picked up Hermit's shell and you wouldn't have an angry red welt on your hand. So it's only right that I do what I can to fix you up." He looked over at her and gently squeezed her hand. "And I apologize for allowing it to happen. Oh, here we are. My house," he said with a sweeping gesture of his free hand. "Come on inside. It's nicely furnished so you can sit down while I find a first aid kit."
