“No.” Baie answered her niece quickly before really thinking but then reconsidered. “Maybe. Not like a zebra or a wildebeest. But a buffalo maybe. A very agile one.” She actually chuckled at her own words. That was exactly what the Firekin looked like to her: big, angry buffalos with deadly teeth and claws. She didn't think a lion would be stupid enough to chase two targets to exhaustion but maybe a similar fighting technique could work.

“If we aim for slow damage, we might be able to take one of them down. Bleed them from the back, break something if we can. If we’re quick and don’t get caught. I think we could.” There was something unusually intense in the orange Umzingeli’s eyes and a ripple of raw excitement travelled through her body, unsettling her otherwise immaculate coat. Suddenly, her eyes softened and she looked at Surtak appreciatively and then the other dueling pairs. “Surtak is doing well but I don’t like to see the girls fighting them.”

For someone who looked like a huge brute, Thuli found Heti’s manners rather charming. It would be his honor? Why yes, of course it would be. Her tail danced playfully behind her back as she mirrored the steps he took and the near-adult lowered her body a little to a defensive stance before she started to slowly circle the striped lion.

“Come and get me then.” Her grin grew wider and she eyed the Firekin with barely contained excitement. She would much prefer to be the one attacking - she was almost certain Heti would try his hardest not to harm her – but as far as practice lessons went, it would be best to learn what to do in a real situation. And if such a situation did come to pass, Thuli was certain she would NOT attack a huge male head-on like an idiot. So she just focused on evading anything the striped lin could throw at her.

Buna nodded as Baie started to discuss strategies for taking down a larger foe. Just like that, an agile buffalo. An agile buffalo that probably wouldn't rage blindly. It would be difficult, but a couple of quick lionesses... She lost track of that thought as she saw Surtak engage his sparring partner.

"Looks like he told us the truth," she said, raising her eyebrows, "He knows how to fight. I wonder if Ibala... Wodi did spar with him."

It was reassuring to see that their Abaholi knew how to handle himself in a fight, despite his smaller than average size. The Umzingeli hunted and the Abaholi protected them. The red ones led their lives differently, but Buna felt no need to change what had worked for her mother and grandmother before her.

"Why don't you spar with me," she said to her aunt. She didn't enjoy the fighting around them either, but she figured that their loitering would be noticed soon enough. And she knew how she would handle a cub sitting around, give it something to do. In her mind it would be better to try her paw at this with someone familiar than with one of the big firekin. Even the small firekin were unusually feisty, it seemed.

Kapera smiled affectionately at the wild cub, completely ignoring the pleas of the other two ruffians. One was enough! "I think it best I do the defending and you the attacking," she said. As she did, she lowered her body down close to the ground, as though to mimic his posture.

"Whenever you are ready," she thrummed merrily.

As the others got to practicing, Hraga took a moment to fall back a bit and watch the progress. It was shaky going of course, but he had to admit he was rather pleased with the enthusiasm. Firekin often took outsiders for granted. They turned away rogues such as these because of their pelts, often believing it was fur along that gave them strength.

No, there was a lot of strength to these roguekin. And while war might not have been their facet, they clearly excelled in other areas. It might have been a controversial view in the pride, but Hraga couldn't help but think there was some benefit in ensuring the survival of their neighbors. After all, if an invasion ever tried to face the Motoujamii, it wouldn't just be their pride who would be impacted.

"That's very good everyone," he said. "I think if we keep practicing and sparring, you'll be troop of warriors in no time."

Baie chuckled as mischief took over her expression, looking around for the pale lioness before she spoke again.

“Spar… maybe they did… spar.” She said quietly with a wicked grin. While she was far more interested in Gakere as a potential partner, it was definitely good to see that the smallest Umholi could handle himself well in a fight. Gakere had been right to accept him, apparently – something the Abazingeli already suspected but now had the perfect chance to confirm.

“Sounds like a good idea.” She agreed quickly, taking a few steps back. “Let’s try doing that thing they showed us. Or maybe… one of us tries to touch the other while she tries not to be caught? Some of them seem to just be practicing – umh, what is that… - evading…?”

Eld pondered how to go about this. His sparring partner stayed close to the ground, so going for the belly wouldn't be an option. He couldn't throw his weight around like the full grown firekin, but he decided for a head on attack still. It would be unexpected, if anything else. They were practicing evading after all, and he wasn't afraid to be thrown around a bit. It was just good fun, after all.

With a growl that was far cuter than he had intended it to be, he charged at his opponent. He jumped for her face, taking care to keep his claws in just in case. He was pretty sure she'd try to move, but he didn't want to accidentally poke an eye out.

Buna whacked her niece gently with her front paw. Maybe they had sparred as Baie put it, but it wasn't polite to joke about it. Come to think of it, Buna had seen the two sit and talk so perhaps they had done other things in private too. She was getting curious, but there was no polite way to ask. Wodi was not a lioness she spent a lot of time with, so she wasn't comfortable bringing the subject up. Ah, if there were cubs they would know.

"I like that idea," she said and nodded, "Try to touch me."

She backpedalled, trying to keep eye contact with Baie to be able to guess her next move.

Baie chuckled, her expression maintaining the same level of mischief as she allowed her niece’s obviously soft blow to connect without bothering to avoid it. She deserved it, after all. It wasn’t very nice to talk behind the Busisa and new Umholi’s backs about these matters (even if she had already said enough in front of Surtak).

“Alright.” She said, sounding perhaps a little too eager. Dropping to a crouch, she began to circle the brown lioness, maintaining the distance Buna had created when she’d backed away a few steps. She waited until Buna was midstep to lunge forward with a grin though she was certain that Buna wouldn’t be caught by surprise easily. She hoped she could catch the other lioness off-balance, as unlikely as that prospect was. The point of the game was not to catch or defeat but only to touch so Baie kept her claws sheathed at all times.
