I prefer smaller knives because they get too heavy to be clipped on to your pocket after a certain point (talking about things in the ZT0350 size class here) though I don't think I'd bother with that Flash either, but that's mostly because I hear that SOG's QC is variable at best so you end up basically playing "QC roulette" whenever you buy one of their products.
I'm still withholding judgement on their assisted knives. I've had mostly good experience with them but some bad. On the other hand I would highly recommend their manual ARC lock knives like the Visionary series. All the ones I've handled are great and rock solid.

I'd rather not. Judging from the specs, it doesn't seem like I'm getting much bang for my buck, compared to other brands like Spyderco and Kershaw and a lot of their designs are frankly a bit too on the "tacticool" side for my tastes, which is one of the reasons why I generally avoid Benchmade and Cold Steel. I am interested in the Snarl though but I get to feeling that the Chinese company that's manufacturing it is gonna sell it for cheaper under their own brand, so I'd rather hold out for that.

I got a Boker M2A(similar idea as the snarl) because I thought it'd be cool and useful but I've never ended up using it so far.. Just another piece to the collection.

You mean the Boker MA-2. They're completely different though. The MA-2 was made to be used as an off-hand weapon that you can have hang around your fingers to free your hand to use without removing it. No one uses because it doesn't fit most people and really is just a mall ninja fantasy weapon. The Snarl was designed to be a compact EDC fixed blade that you actually use. If you look at the original Brous Blade Silent Soldier's design, the finger hole diameter is a lot smaller because you're not supposed to slip your fingers all the way through. SOG just expanded the hole diameter so they can market it as a "brass knuckles/SOG mash-up" to reel in the kids.

ah I was under the impression the MA2 had that open hand function so your hand would be free for other tasks. The ads didn;t seem to indicate a tactical use for it. Not that I noticed anyway. initially I got it for when I was moving and breaking up boxes but I ended up using a BM Barrage instead.

I carry a cheap a** Ridge Runner folder for EDC. It cost me less than five bucks almost ten years ago and it's still in perfect shape except for the thumb screw having come loose at one point and falling off without my noticing.
Personally, I don't like the idea of carrying a $100 knife for EDC as, if you ever actually need to use it for defense, you will lose the knife since the cops will never give it back to you.
Interesting side note for anyone concerned with carry laws, where I live (Indy) every type of knife is now legal to carry. balisongs, switchblades, freaking machetes, which sometimes I do carry, all legal.

That is what it's for. It's a weapon designed to not get in your way when doing things and that you can have in your hand in case you really need it.

That's because you're operating under the assumption that people who carry $100 knives are carrying them to use as weapons. The only ones that do are delusional manchildren. As for the changes in your state's knife laws, you can thank Knife Rights for that. http://www.kniferights.org/ I don't agree with the way they're quick to latch on to the "2nd Amendment" rhetoric like the NRA though.

hmm. It's never really bothered me. I guess I just love having a sweet knife on me. I tend to take them out and fondle them some when no one is looking. ninja
The most expensive knife I EDC is probably a Benchmade 940. A "steal" at just under $175. If you're lucky. They run up to $200. ._.

I don't carry at the moment, and probably won't start. I'd love to carry, but it's illegal to carry a gun for self defense where I live, and using a knife for self defense will most likely put you in jail. To win a knife fight, you stab the person with all your strength over and over as fast as you can (In a high adrenaline situation, the first stab may or may not do the job, and it's not safe to stop fighting to see if it did). In court, that makes it look like rage, not self defense. It can also be hard to explain why you didn't run away if you are in a situation where a knife is effective. To top it off, if your knife was designed for combat, you just got convicted. California courts generally hold that nobody carries a fighting knife unless they are looking for a fight.

I don't carry my knife with the intention of using it for self defense. Perhaps in a situation like if I had to fight a bear or something. I do live in a downtown city area and have had first hand experience with knife violence(my landlord was stabbed five times, but survived). Just don't carry an EDC for self defense. It should strictly be a last resort unless you know what you're doing. Otherwise in a physical encounter there are other options and lots of information out there about it. Not all valid so you need to do your research and talk to the right people.

I've lost too many over the years to cops and security people to risk it. I stopped carrying my Grandpa's pocket knife ages ago when I nearly lost it going into a school to pick up some paperwork.

I carry a small folding karambit, blade is around 2.25 inches long. Don't know the brand it just says karambit on the blade, I got it pretty cheap and only got it for the pocket wave on it since at the time I had a different karambit that I was very comfortable with but didn't have a pocket wave. Had it for a bit and it's holding up fine so not too bad of a purchase. The assisted opening broke pretty fast but it always does with cheaper knives, but i'm pretty happy to say it doesn't need assisted opening for the pocket wave to work just fine.
