Viktoria paid no mind to the guards that had been behind her the entire confrontation with Nathaniel Kelvin, even though now both had their gun's laser sights trained on the base of her skull. She had confidence in her abilities to bring her through this skirmish so that she might exit this building alive and, hopefully, unharmed but when the wall parted to reveal more guards in gear manufactured by Stark tech, she began to fear that she'd gotten herself in over her head. Viktoria kept her gun raised as it had been before the guards obstructed her view of Nathaniel Kelvin, whom was still speaking. His words still burned her but now her shock and anguish spilled over onto her face when she discovered that he'd known her secret all along. To think of all those times Viktoria had risked blowing her cover to go around Kelvin's back and save mutants but find out she hadn't had a cover to blow from the beginning made her head spin. She had endangered her faction's entire mission and the race she'd fought so hard to protect would pay for her negligence. Viktoria bit her lip as she fought back the tears that came with her disappointment over her failure and the emotions that bubbled to the surface from dredging up all those old memories of Bayreuth, of seeing her family and her close friends, of her family being irreparably damaged. Her cover was blown so there was nothing left for her to lose and that made her even more dangerous; what harm was there in going down swinging? Viktoria broke past the barrier separating her from Kelvin as he retreated into the elevator the armed Stark guards had come out of as the walls merged again and left no trace of the route the elder Kelvin had used to escape, meeting the complete wall with her bellowing voice echoing threats throughout the suite and her fists pounding wildly against the partition.

"You son of a b***h! I’ll make you pay for Bayreuth if it’s the last thing I do!

Viktoria began clawing at the wall to try to discover the doors and pry them apart but the high-pitched whistle of a bullet flying past her head and into the wall brought her back to the present, with the guards armed to the teeth and those only equipped with simple guns. She came to her senses quickly and teleported in a wisp of smoke that reeked of brimstone to the rear of the suite the moment she saw the guards closing in on her and preparing to make another shot. Viktoria reappeared in mid-air with her knife brandished and jumped onto the back of a bodyguard, sinking the blade into the flesh of his back and holding on with her free hand. The guard thrashed around before his colleagues to try to throw her into the path of an armored guard but she would not release her hold. Viktoria remained on her mount for long enough to direct him in the path of one of his colleague’s bullets, releasing her knife from his body as it collapsed and teleporting out of the reach of guards again. Her next arrival point was not as she had hoped; she found herself directly in front of an armed guard and scrambled backward in shock until she tripped over the body of the fallen guard and hit her head hard on the oak floor of Kelvin’s office. Viktoria was rolling over onto all fours and planning to get to her feet when she felt the steel toed boot of the remaining bodyguard crash in to her spine and then repeatedly into her ribs, sending tendrils of pain spreading all across her body. Not long after the beating ended, a pair of the guards pulled her to her feet and continued their assault, blows landing on her face and torso. When Viktoria could stand it no longer and her wits were back about her, she teleported to where she had dropped her gun and grabbed it, aiming and firing at the torso of the bodyguard.

Finding herself left with the guards fortified with Stark technology, Viktoria knew time was of the essence. Her mission was already jeopardized because of having been discovered by Kelvin and every head in her faction would be spinning from the damage control they’d have to do. Viktoria feared what her negligence would earn her when she made it back to headquarters. The mechanized guards had loaded their weapons and begun to fire in the time that she’d paused to get a better reading of the situation so Viktoria had teleported under Kelvin’s desk as she tried to recoup energy to continue. She couldn’t pretend that all of this hadn’t taken its toll on her; her face was obviously bruised and her body quite sore from the beating she took. Despite all of this, Viktoria had to continue. She clutched her gun tightly and took a deep breath before coming out of hiding, engaging the guards in a firefight. Viktoria clinched her teeth as she felt their bullets hit her shoulder and arm so she could fight against the pain. Viktoria roared in frustration as she fired another shot, which landed squarely in the power supply to one of the mechanized guards and electrocuted him. Viktoria had barely made the shot when the other guard came charging at her and instinct kicked in, causing her to teleport to avoid being caught in his path. She arrived on the opposite side of the room after the desk collapsed under his weight and knew that fighting was no longer a viable option. With that notion in her head, Viktoria teleported to the area outside of the office so there would be distance between the two and bolted toward the elevator. Per the glimpse she’d caught of herself in the stainless steel elevator doors, her disguise was deteriorating at a rate she was less than comfortable with from all the stress and her body was beginning to revert back to its natural state- blue skin, tail, and all. She had to escape from this Purifier stronghold and find a safe haven quickly. Despite the pain that racked her body, Viktoria teleported onto the street and began to run toward Greenwich Village. If the enemy of my enemy is my friend, she thought, the Doctor has to take me in.

Nathaniel didn't have the luxury to experience Viktoria's death first hand. He was a busy man, and his attention was needed. His top scientist has been contacting him constantly throughout the day, and he had to check up on him. It seemed the latest incarnation of their new virus had failed, and he needed more time. He seemed to believe he knew exactly what he needed in order to complete his research and come up with a viable final solution. All Nathaniel knew is that he would not tolerate another failure. Reaching for his tablet, he pulled up the most recent messages.

"He had better be right..." Nathaniel said to himself as his elevator came to a stop, letting him off at the garage where his limo was waiting for him. He stepped inside while his driver held the door open for him, and sent the good doctor a message back.

Meet with me at the following location in two days. We will discuss your progress.

He attached a confidential address leading to a warehouse district privately owned by the Purifiers in upstate New York. If the doctor had all the answers, then Nathaniel would have no problem funding his research further and allocating him the necessary amenities. If not...however...he would be forced to dispose of him.

Nick was raised up on to a bed in the infirmary located in the X-Mansion. A doctor approached him, (who Nick convinced himself to be human or else he wouldn't have let him touch him,) and began going through Nick’s medical history. There didn’t seem to be any allergy dangers when it came to antibiotics, and so they began administering penicillin to counteract any infection that might take hold. Nick still had his leg frozen over in the area of the wound to keep the bleeding down, and he was asked politely to undo it so that they could properly treat it. Every request was met without words, but distrusting glances in the doctor’s and nurses’ direction, followed by reluctant compliance. Nick dissolved the ice, and the doctors began removing any shrapnel immediately. It was painful, but they had to work fast, and that meant not being able to apply any local anesthesia. There were only a few pieces of shrapnel, thankfully not puncturing any major arteries or bones, but made its way into the muscle tissue. It took about an hour to finish the procedure, but eventually Nick was bullet free and was bleeding very little. The doctor wiped his forehead of sweat, smiling over the fact that there was no complications.

“Well Nick you’re very lucky. Had that bullet impacted an inch to the right, and you might have never walked again. I now leave you in the very capable hand of my nurse, Alicia,” the doctor said, gesturing to Alicia who was indeed dressed in scrubs, sterile and holding a suture set. This made Nick nervous, he didn’t want a mutant working on him, he still harbored deep distrust, even if this one in particular saved his life. The doctor left the room, leaving Alicia and Nick alone with each other. Finally Alicia was able to apply some local anesthetic, and it began to num Nick’s leg from the pain he was experiencing. Nick just took it in silence, unwilling to be anything better than remotely civil towards his saviors. Eventually the silence was deafening, and Alicia decided to break the…well…ice.

“So…how did this all happen? You said you’re a mutant, but you’re my age. How did you hide it from the Purifiers from so long?” Alicia asked politely.

“I’d rather not talk about it,” Nick said shortly, he was in no mood to talk.

“Oh, I understand, just thought we’d talk about something instead of sit in an empty room with a needle in my hand,” Alicia shrugged her shoulders and smiled, humming and continuing her work. A few moments went by, and Nick sighed. He couldn’t take it, he might as well make small talk.

“It was seven years ago, during my initiation. Some mutant took out my crew, and grabbed me. I panicked, and the mutant began turning to ice. When I pulled my arm back, it shattered. It was the middle of winter, so no one noticed the remains in the snow. Everyone thought I used the mutant’s powers against him to destroy it, and that was that. Ever since then, I’ve been using my powers as little as possible, just enough to learn how to stay in control, or get away in a pinch. I always thought of myself as a human, and so I didn’t rely on my mutant abilities. I never dated because I was afraid I’d lose control and turn my girlfriend into a statue, I wore gloves and long sleeves with shades and beanies in case anyone noticed I was getting colder, or that my eyes and hair changed color…” Nick sighed, running a hand through his hair, recalling today’s events, “then this mess happened…my roommate caught me at the rally, and tried to take me home. My buddies noticed it, and tried to keep me there. They played tug of war with my arms, and I panicked, I lost control…and gave both of them frost bite. I transformed into my mutant form by accident, and my dad…he saw everything. He…my dad…made the call for me to be killed. I ran…but the assassin caught me, and shot me. Everything else, you know. Now I’m here, and I don’t know what to do with myself.”

Alicia seemed genuinely sympathetic towards Nick, even if he might not embrace his gift as others did. She finished up her stitches, clipping the loose ends and wiping the excess blood free.

“There you go, all better,” she said with a cheery tone, “as for what to do now, I suggest you enroll in the University. It would be the best way for you to learn how to interact with your own kind, and keep yourself busy while you’re laying low and hiding from your old friends. That, and you can learn to use your powers more effectively…” Alicia prattled off idea after idea, hoping to get Nick to stay.

“I don’t plan on hanging out around here for very long, I’m no X-Man. Once I get what I need and the time is right, I’m heading out and going it alone,” Nick explained coldly.

“Oh…I figured, I just thought, you know, if you learn how to use your powers, you can defend yourself better…when you’re alone…” Alicia replied. She had wished he’d stay longer, but if his mind was made up, there wasn’t much she could do about it. She cleaned up her supplies and threw away the waste, heading to the exit.

Nick felt bad, even if she was a mutant, she did her best to help, and he was pushing her away. He sighed, rolling his eyes.

“Hey…” which prompted Alicia to turn around, “thanks for your help,” he said simply, nodding as if to acknowledge her hard work. Alicia smiled and opened the door.

“You’re welcome. It’s what we do, we help our own kind. Even if they don’t want it…” Alicia ran her hand through her hair, contemplating something, “Hey, you know, if you need someone to show you around the place, I’d be happy to once you’re discharged,” she offered. Nick through it over, and figured he might as well take her up on it. Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.

“Yeah, that would be nice…thanks…” Nick replied.

With that, Alicia nodded and left, leaving Nick alone with his thoughts.

The Doc

Jonathan would go to the warehouse, alone. He had no fear of Nathaniel, due to his massive arrogance. Plus, his bodyguards were Purifiers, so they wouldn't have helped him in any case. But Jonathan had his own contacts. He used them currently to benefit the Purifiers, but, if needed, they would gladly do his bidding. But, Jonathan felt that would never be needed. Nathaniel was the farthest thing from a stupid man.. That was more then likely the reason he was unafraid. He went over the notes he gathered on Tyler to show Nathaniel, making sure everything was in order. He knew, with one hundred percent certainty, that Tyler's DNA was the one thing he needed to complete the virus.

- Breaking News: Trouble in Central Park -

The hole that Gabe's body made was now being taped off by a police officer as two officers were managing the crowd. Near the hole was a older gentleman recounting what had happened with another of the officers. "So tell me again what happened so I get this down right," the officer said to the old man. "Well like I said officer, an angel fell from the sky and crashed into the ground," the old man said, still a little shaky from what he saw. "An angel you say?" the officer asked. "Yes officer! An angel! But..... But... This angel was different then the stories you hear. This angel's skin was black as night and it's wings were the color of death," the old said with fear in his voice. "Alright, I think that is all I will need for now. Don't go to far away if I have any more questions for you," the officer said before turning his attention to the policeman taping off the hole, "Hey! Officer Williams the old man says there is a body in that hole when you finish can you get someone to check it out please. Oh and let's try to finish this up before we have the media crawling all over this." Officer Williams nodded as he finished taping off the area around the hole. "This is Officer Williams and I'm in need of some aid. We need to pull a body from this big hole in Central Park. We are a few clicks west of the reservoir," Officer Williams said as he waited for a response which told him there was officer's in the area that were on the way, "Officer Sherwin! There are other officer's on the way anything you want me to do?". Officer Sherwin, the officer that had been talking to the old man, walked up to Officer Williams "Well let's try to get a look at what's in that hole shall we? Officer Sherwin said as he stepped over the tape and took his flashlight off his belt, Officer Williams following suit, as they both flashed there lights into the hole. "Well... I don't really see anything all I see is black," Officer Sherwin said after a few minutes, "Wait.... What is that?" Officer Sherwin asked as his flashlight started reflecting off something in the hole. "What do you see? I don't see anyt....." Officer Williams never got to finish as his face was split in face by a flying katana, then Officer Sherwin was sent flying backwards by a heavy push kick by the now air borne Gabe/Azuriel who came flying out of the hole grabbing the weapon out of the air. Gabe/Azuriel landed on the ground outside of the hole as the crowd screamed in horror, forcing the other officers to spin around and pull their guns on the man or whatever it was in front of them. Officer Sherwin got to his feet as the other officer's stood next to him all their guns aimed right at Gabe/Azuriel. Gabe/Azuriel stood tall, both swords draw as he stood in a fighting stance. Officer Sherwin walked a step around of the other two officer's, looking to calm the situation down. "I am Officer Sherwin of the NYPD and I don't want any trouble. There are innocent people here and there is no need for more violence," Officer Sherwin said to Gabe/Azuriel. "I AM AZURIEL! I AM THE BRINGER OF DEATH! BACK AWAY FROM ME HUMAN BEFORE I AM FORCED TO KILL YOU AND ALL THE PEOPLE HERE!" Azuriel screamed at the officer, it was clear that Gabe no longer had any control for now. A group of policemen started forming a circle around Azuriel as they joined in the fray. We have you surrounded Mr. Azuriel, you can't take us all on at once. You have no way out of this," Officer Sherwin said to Azuriel with as much confidence as he could muster, but Officer Sherwin's confidence was shaken as soon as he spoke when Azuriel cut down the two officers that were standing next to him. The situation then began escalating fast as a news copter was now flying in the air broadcasting the news to everyone as the remaining officers started opening fire on Azuriel.

"Breaking news here at Central Park in New York! It seems a black skinned man has cut down three NYPD Officers with ease. It is a pretty scary situation as the remaining officers have opened fire on the man and......

Azuriel beheaded the remaining officers except for Officer Sherwin before drawing his attention on the helicopter flying over head. Azuriel shot into the air slicing through the tail of the helicopter like a hot knife through butter. The helicopter spinning out of control as Azuriel landed back on the ground in front of Officer Sherwin.

"Oh my god! No...... HELP US!"

Forcing him to his knees, Azuriel hovered one of his katanas over the officer's head. "NO!!!!!" Gabe screamed as he regained control of half his body again, deflecting the sword away with his sword he controlled. "I will not let you kill this man like you killed all those others before me! This is my body! I am taking control!"

Lou sits on the edge of his bed, watching TV, flipping through the channels with his remote. "No.. No.. No.. Boring.." He clicks through shopping networks, sports games, trivia shows, a swordsman attack in Central Park, some kittens, cooking lessons, "..Wait what?" He stops for a second, before turning back to the news channel. His eyes widen a little bit, he blinks a couple times, not altogether processing what was happening on television..

.."Well f#@$"

Ramone pushes himself up from off the edge of the bed, and slowly makes his way towards his door, which he locks. Then towards his open window, which he slams shut, locks, and closes the blinds on. Feeling a tad bit safer, he sits back down on the edge of his bed and resumes his channel surfing.

Dread

Tyler felt something was wrong, and then noticed a report on a television inside the mansion. He quickly knew that someone needed to help, and, if he could provide any, he would do so. He teleported several times until he reached the roof of a building near Central Park. He looked down at the incident in question, assessing the situation so he didn't blindly jump into something he couldn't handle.

Nick's numming drugs were beginning to wear off, and he was walking around the hospital, testing the integrity of his leg. He seemed to be doing okay, he wasn't even limping, which was a good sign.

"You know for mutants, they sure do a good stitch job..." Nick said to himself

It was around that time that he heard the familiar sound of shoes rushing down the tile hallway, and he peaked around the corner to see what the commotion was about. He saw Alicia and Pixie dashing down the hallway, this time dressed in their X-Men outfits. He was curious, and he stepped into the hallway to see what the problem was.

"Hey, what's going on? What's the rush for?" Nick asked, and Pixie and Pyras stopped.

"There's a winged swordsman killing people in central park! Everyone else is either in Florida or the West Coast, and so we're asking everyone we can find to come with us," Alicia explained.

"I don't think anyone is left, we have to go before anyone else gets hurt," Pixie chimed in.

"Alright, I guess its just the two of us, are you ready to open the portal?" Alicia asked.

"Wait..." Nick interrupted, "Why don't I go? I can help."

"You? You haven't even had training yet, you'd just be in danger," Alicia argued.

"Hey, i'm handier than you think. Besides, three is better than two. Give me a chance," Nick pleaded.

Alicia wasn't sure what this sudden change of heart was about, but she couldn't deny it would be better to have one more person to watch her back.

"I thought you didn't want to be an X-Man," Alicia pointed out.

"I don't, but I don't want people getting beheaded either. Besides, what's better than on the job training? Come on, you have to let me go," Nick argued.

"Pyras, we don't have time for this, let's just go!" Pixie interrupted. Alicia hesitated, but relented. She headed down to the next hall and came back with a medium sized outfit, tossing it to Nick.

"Put this on! Quick! We have to go!" Alicia said, and Nick smiled. He put on the outfit over his clothes as fast as he could. He was set to go, and Pixie nodded, opening the portal. The three of them stepped through and arrived in Central Park, where a winged dark skinned swordsman was wreaking havoc. It was quite a sight, one Nick hasn't seen before, but he was about to jump into the fire.

Officer Sherwin was shaking in fear as the katana was deflected away inches from his head, but the fear didn't last as the X-Men, are part of, arrived at the scene. The distraction of the quickly appearing super group caused both Gabe and Azuriel to look away from the policeman giving enough time to Officer Sherwin to scramble away. Azuriel spoke under his breath to Gabe, "listen to me! I know we don't like each other, but we don't know this new threat. Let's work together for now so we can get out of this situation alive." Gabe agreed quietly as they got into a fighting stance just in case this new group of people were going to attack. "I am Gabriel! If you are looking to fight then you are looking to die!" The words coming from both Gabe and Azuriel at the same time made the simple words creepy, it even creeped out the speakers of the words as their names fused together when they tried to say their own names.

Nick was puzzled by the seeming double voice emanating from the dark angel-like figure. He saw cameras around, and decided it might be best to power up in order to disguise his face from anyone who knew him, that DIDN'T know his dirty little secret yet. Nick's body temperature dropped to absolute zero, his skin turned a bright blue-ish white, and his eyes like a powdery snow. His hair looked frosted over like frozen grass. He even disguised his face, forming icy glasses over his eyes to hide his identity, with the added benefit of the crystallized shades giving him increased sight range and peripheral vision.

Even in his nervous state, facing down an intimidating figure, Nick couldn't seem to keep his mouth shut.

"Really? So all these innocent peace-keepers were looking with a fight? Or maybe they were just trying to defend these people? I think you're the one looking for a fight buddy, and my day has been bad enough that i'm willing to give you one," Nick said audaciously, challenging the strange being. His two teammates didn't seem to share his enthusiasm, but they weren't going to back down either.

Azuriel began to laugh at Nick, but Gabe forced their mouth shut. Gabe was trying to keep a leveled head because he didn't want to fight if he didn't have to, but with Azuriel in control it didn't look like he had a way out. "The first one was just for fun, but when the others pulled guns on me I wanted to kill them all!" Azuriel was the only one that spoke this time his booming dark voice was followed by a much quieter one. "I am sorry for the lives that were taken today, if I had more control then I would have been able to stop him. I am asking you all nicely to leave this place, I don't know how long I can hold on and if he gains full control once again then I fear for your life."

Dread

Tyler teleported onto the field of battle, right behind Nick. "He's either split personality, or he's possessed. Either way, he's a very dangerous customer." Tyler had no fear of dying. He was more concerned with the safety of the general public. "Name's Dread, by the way." Tyler said, preparing himself for a fight.

As the Fantasticar approached the airspace surrounding the Jean Grey School, the original web-head spotted a lone figure standing outside the gate, clad in what appeared to be a leather jacket (although it wasn't clear from that altitude) and smoking a cigar. Figuring that had to be everybody's favorite beer swilling, cigar smoking, best there is at what he does (even if it isn't very nice) headmaster, the urge to have a little fun at his expense grew too great to resist.

With a bit of a chuckle, Peter asked Ben to hold still for a moment, and when the junior wall-crawler complied (although not entirely sure what his uncle was up to), Spidey tapped a hidden switch at the top of his sternum that triggered a little modification made to the suit, changing the appearance of Ben's costume to match his own.

"
We were planning on mentioning this earlier, but when you took off, it sorta slipped my mind...besides, it's a good chance to mess with Logan a little. Reed and I added a layer of Unstable Molecules to your costume a couple of weeks ago after I made the call to get you in here, so now you can continue to wear your father's costume and still comply with the uniform. Now, c'mon, let's go...we're late enough as it is."

With that, the pair of identically clad web-slingers hopped out of the vehicle, both landing neatly on their feet and approached the gate...much to Headmaster Logan's chagrin. "
Oh, great...there's two of him," Wolverine muttered as he saw the Spider-Men. "Hiya, Logan!" they said in stereo as the duo mirrored each other perfectly. All that could be heard in reply was a guttural growl and a faint SNIKT before Logan finally spoke. "Ben, head on inside while I have some words with your chucklehead of an uncle...and do something about that damn costume!"

Grinning under his mask, the Scarlet Spider took a flipping leap up and clung to the Mansion's gate momentarily before hopping over it. He gave the switch on his chest a few quick taps in midair, and by the time he landed, his attire had cycled through a black and white costume reminiscent of the FF's and a black and yellow version of his regular appearance (which Ben assumed was his new uniform for field ops with the X-Men) before settling on what looked like the civilian version of his school uniform.

Viktoria forced herself to keep running down Seventh Avenue toward Greenwich Village and her salvation from the Stark guard that still pursued her after the showdown in Kelvin’s office. Pain shot throughout her body each time her foot met pavement and her lungs felt as if they were on fire with each sharp inhale and exhale. The wealth of Manhattan traffic at midday did absolutely nothing to help her case either. Viktoria was having to fight the sharp, throbbing pain of the bullets that had met their mark in her shoulder and her left arm while dealing with the blood that now left noticeable stains along her left side and struggling to catch her breath against bruised- no, one or two had to be broken- ribs. Viktoria was so delirious with pain that the edges of her vision were beginning to blur and teleportation was incredibly risky at best. If the shock of seeing a blue girl with a tail running down Seventh didn’t shock the drivers, having an obstacle was surely enough to make a ton of cabbies quite irate. Viktoria heard their horns blaring as they bellowed colorful insults in a plethora of languages as she darted past them, heart set on Bleecker Street. There was her hope and she would not quit running until she found refuge or was caught. Viktoria couldn’t just allow her body to give out as good as that would feel given her injuries when what she wanted was almost within reach. I don’t know if I can keep this up, Viktoria thought to herself in a panic as she began checking the street signs for her cue when to turn. Do I even remember what number he’s at? Will I recognize it? Viktoria gritted her teeth as she pushed herself to run faster, knowing her turn was soon. Perry Street. Waverly Place. Charles Street. He’s close; he has to be, Viktoria thought. West 10th Street. Christopher Street. Grove Street. There it was! As Viktoria closed in on Barrow Street and the school crossing, the sign for Bleecker Street came into view. So close, she thought as she made the sharp turn, momentarily ignorant of the traffic that continued down the street. Viktoria had only made the turn to run down the small side street when she found herself clipped by a car heading south on 7th Avenue, rolling up onto the hood before teleporting back to her feet onto the asphalt and meeting the shocked glare of the elderly male driver. She didn’t stay there for long after hearing the sound of gunfire coming from further down the street. Viktoria launched into a sprint down Bleecker Street and across its intersection with Avenue of the Americas, nervously looking for 177A. She knew that to the average joe that this place looked like a construction site for a Starbucks but to Viktoria, the building had an unmistakable façade that she couldn’t ignore. This was the Sanctum Sanctorum, the home of Doctor Strange, an old ally of the mutant cause. Viktoria clambered over the cast iron gates to the manse and stumbled up the path to the door, gasping for breath now that she had stopped running. She was so exhausted and would have given anything just to stop for a rest on the stoop of this house but with the guard still in pursuit, she needed inside so she began pounding on the door with her fist, not caring for those inside as she yelled. Her harsh German accent would carry and get the attention she needed from the house’s owner.

Herr Doctor Strange! Herr Doctor Strange! Open your door! Please!

Viktoria panicked for a moment and glanced back toward the cast iron gates that were only a stone’s throw away. The guard hadn’t caught up with her yet but that didn’t mean she could stop now.

I need sanctuary! For the love of God, hurry!

Remembering that Wolverine's sense of humor can be non-existent at times, Spider-Man needed to high-tail it back up to his ride when Logan appeared to be less than pleased by Peter's little joke. Needless to say, Spidey was quite relieved that Mr. Fantastic took off before Logan could get his claws on him...but the flight back to the Baxter Building was more than a little unpleasant, as Reed Richards took it upon himself to lecture Peter about his practical jokes for what was most likely the millionth time. Then again, it could be worse...Johnny could have been the one driving, and in all likelihood, the Human Torch would have left him there and watched the sparks fly just for shits and giggles.

Had it not been for having some business to take care of across town at Horizon Labs, the Web-head might have stuck around to help with some of Reed's research, but time was of the essence. After a quick hello and good-bye to Ben, Johnny, Sue and the kids, Spider-Man was once again web-slinging his way along the Manhattan skyline, heading down Fifth Avenue as he intended to make a quick pit-stop by his room in Stark Tower to restock his supply of web fluid.

With more than enough web cartridges to make it through the remainder of the morning (barring some major catastrophe), he doubled back down 20th street to get to Sixth Avenue, since there weren't many buildings of sufficient height to swing from around Washington Park. Spidey's trip was relatively uneventful...until he neared Bleecker Street, when he spotted something rather peculiar.

What the wallcrawler saw was an armored thug -on foot- chasing after what looked like a blue skinned girl who might have been bleeding. When the armored figure opened fire, Spider-Man leaped into action -so to speak- as he swung down and slammed both feet squarely into the thug's back, sending him face-first into the concrete sidewalk.

"Normally, I'd have some witty quip while I web you up and leave you hanging for the police," Spidey said, his voice full of annoyance as he began to cocoon the thug, "but since somebody just had to go and ruin my morning, have some fist instead!" As the webhead tossed the armored man over the nearest lamp post and left him hanging like a piñata, Spider-Man slugged him right between the eyes before walking off to follow the trail of blood left by the mysterious girl -who vaguely resembled Nightcrawler- right to the doorstep of his fellow Avenger, Doctor Stephen Strange!
