Putting a hand on his chest in mock offense, N'rin tried not to laugh. "Me? Leaving lonely girls? I would never!" After holding that for a moment, he let a grin slip onto his lips. "Now that you mention it though..maybe I should grab a few..."

Glancing at the dolls, he dismissed the idea. Not enough marks for now, those women would just have to settle for him alone. Hearing R'yn starting to speak again, the dark-haired boy looked back to his friend. "Oh? So I can drag you away from our dear Weyrwoman?" His grin turned into a teasing smile as he playfully nudged the bronzerider. "Ah, offering to help me? I have such a good friend!" His arm slid around R'yn's shoulders and ruffled his hair.

Eyes turning to Ticene, he gave a lopsided smile and playfully saluted her. "No worries! I will make sure R'yn behaves himself." A second's worth of thought before he opened his mouth again. "Want me to have Nestle with ya, that way you can check up on him?" A wink was shot to R'yn.

Taking a step back, he was about to turn around when a man was suddenly on him. Wrinkling his nose at the smell, N'rin was about to tell the guy off when the drunkard sloppily put his lips on his own. "You s're look niss." Eyes widened in shock before he shoved the guy away from him. "No! No, no, no." Quickly wiping his mouth, he tried not to shudder in horror. Whyyyyyy? Now he really had to go find some wine to wash his mouth out and hopefully a few girls...maybe more than a few.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 12, 2012 7:52 pm

R'yn shook his head, chuckling. "Is this a new resolve of yours, N'rin? How many candlemarks did you spend with the last one, two?" The bronzerider was fond of teasing his friend's flightly ways. He himself had been something similar, when he had been younger. Before he had met Ticene, of course. Having been small, he had attracted the Weyr's females with ease; though certainly not for the reasons he would have liked.

"Well, why not?" he grinned, before glancing back at Ticene. "Tic! What have you found?" he asked, eyes widening as he noticed the three eggs in her arms. He immediately moved to help her with them. "I'll take these to our weyr, Tic, alright?" he took them carefully. "Even with this heat, they'll need the fire. I'll have Zara keep an eye on them so we'll know if they're going to hatch anytime soon." He was off in a hurry, flashing both she and N'rin a reassuring smile. He was back almost as fast.

"Alright. They're currently in the candidate's barracks. I didn't want to make you wait," he placed a kiss on Ticene's cheek. "You have talent, finding three eggs in a crowded gather, my love."

If R'yn had been gone any longer, he might have missed the best event of the Gather. N'rin had gotten kissed by a man! A drunkard, but certainly still a man--and that meant N'rin would be teased for sevendays to come--if not turns. He leaned against Tic, first bubbling with quiet chuckles. They became louder, and soon the Weyrleader was all but bent over upon himself with laughter. He pointed at N'rin, tears of mirth falling from his eyes and onto his cheeks. "That's what you get!" He crowed when he was able to speak. "Oh, N'rin. I'll never forget that." He dissolved once more into hysterical laughter. Some might have been offended--but N'rin had been a friend of his since candidancy. Served him right!

Jennes smiled at Iona, but needed to think a moment before answering her question. The asking price was two marks, but he'd chopped it down to one for Ionan. He didn't want to say 2 marks in the boy's hearing, but he also didn't want word to get around that they were 1 mark, as that could cause problems later. So he chose his words carefully. "I told Ionan they're 1 mark each, though of course since he doesn't have that much, he's haggling for a lower price." He emphasized "Ionan" slightly, hoping that she might gather that he was letting the youngster off with a lower price. He was still a boy with just a couple marks, after all.

Jennes couldn't help chuckling at Ionan's little slip of the tongue at the end. "Sixteen marks each? I couldn't let you spend that much on them!" he said in a teasing tone. Then in a more normal, though still cheery, tone he said, "And you found some marks? Wonderful! You'll be able to buy something else nice after these toys and dinner." As for now much the toys cost, he considered the boy's last offer. Three sixteenth marks each, for a total of 3 quarter marks for all four toys. From a business sense, it was a terrible offer, but he already wasn't expecting to get a fair price for them. Truth be told, if Ionan had walked into his room and admired the toys, he would likely have just let the boy take one or two. They were made for kids to play with, after all. No, this wasn't a business deal; it was a lesson. And he decided letting the toy go for less than a quarter of the asking price would send the wrong message. Though he knew Ionan would only spend one of his marks on the toys, so he picked a price that he could comfortably settle on.

Picking up a stuffed feline, he remarked, "I've been making these toys for years, to give to all my many foster siblings. Everyone had their favorite that got dragged around everywhere. You should have seen what they'd do to these: bash them around," here he held the toy by one leg and swatted it around violently as if hitting things, "dragged them in the mud," he dragged it across the table, "and tried pulling them away from each other," he took hold of it by two legs, each hand holding one, and pulled it hard in opposite directions. "You name it, they did it. But they always stayed soft and strong. The cloth stayed together, the stitching held, and they were as cuddly as ever. So these toys are good and sturdy, sure to last a long time." He held the toy by one leg again and wagged it for emphasis, as if it were some kind of really floppy pointer. "Which is why they're worth at least a quarter mark each." Now to see if Ionan would settle for that price.

When Iona found some marks too, Jennes grew puzzled again. How many marks were hidden in the sand around here? He experimentally poked his toe around the area he'd found the bag of marks. But instead of hitting something small and light, as he half expected, there was a brittle crunch instead. He jolted back, a bit alarmed, then curiosity got the better of him and he crouched down to look. A bit of poking revealed a pile of brittle egg shells, much like what Ticene had found. Another eaten green flit clutch, huh? He poked around the shells idly, and was somewhat surprised when he found one that was whole and warm. be brushed aside some sand and broken shells to get it out, and found two more eggs that seemed unharmed. First marks everywhere, now eggs? Still, he wouldn't pass up the chance at a flit or two. Though three might be a bit much. Maybe he'd find someone else to give an egg to.

He pulled the three eggs from the sand and straightened to show them to Ticene and R'yn. "Some flits were buys around here, I think. I found a few eggs, too!"

Ticene shook her head at N'rin and R'yn's behaviour. She was in no way in the dark about N'rin and his habits. She decided against pointing out that more than a few of those 'lonely girls' weren't exactly looking for anything past the main event. Tic hoped for her gender's sack that at least a few of them had been the one to leave N'rin lonely. It would be a sad thing if N'rin was always the one winning in these situations. Clearly the idea of him getting dolls for these girls was dismissed for whatever reason. Let N'rin drag R'yn away from her. There were plenty other things she could find to entertain herself while the two of them were on the hunt for girls.

She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at N'rin's claim. Him, make sure R'yn behaved? She somehow expected him more to be the one encouraging him to do things he shouldn't be. "Hm, no. I don't think that'll be necessary. He knows which side his bread is buttered on." Tic didn't need a spy to keep an eye on him for her. Ticene seriously doubted that R'yn would attempt to have a fling. Pretty much all gossip ended up filtering back to Tic eventually. Never mind if Calith got even a hint that he had tried it she would hound Gereth until he told her everything. Yes, Tic didn't see that she had anything to worry about with R'yn wandering off.

Immediately her attention shifted focus when R'yn noticed the three eggs Tic cradled to her. She allowed him to take them from her, gently passing them to him. To be honest she was relieved to have the eggs in someone more experienced’s hands. R'yn knew how to handle eggs, he had Zara. Tic knew nothing of firelizard eggs; give her dragon eggs any day. Firelizard eggs were so much smaller the woman was nervous that she would drop the eggs or something similar. R'yn hurried off and Tic let out a small huff at being left alone while he made his way back to their weyr.

As it turned out though he wasn't gone for nearly as long as she expected. She smiled at the idea of him not wanting her to wait, she could have just gone with him, and it wasn't like she had anything to rush to on a gather day. Tic laughed at the idea of her 'talent' as R'yn kissed her cheek. "Talent? Sounds more like sheer luck." She'd been close to stepping on them and was sure it was just luck that had stopped her. She didn't think she could handle the guilt of having broken a firelizard egg.

Tic looked away from R'yn as she saw a man stumble toward N'rin. He was clearly drunk and given Ticene's last run in with drunks she was about to warn the rider. However she was robbed of the chance and her ability to speak as the rider did something she had not been expecting. And to N'rin of all people. This was just too perfect. Shock prevented Tic from saying or doing anything until she heard R'yn begin to laugh. The sound caused an answering laugh to build in the Weyrwoman. She tried to smother it under her hand, but it only succeeded in bursting out into unstoppable laughter. She tried to stop, she really did, but with "I don't think I'll ever forget it either."R'yn beside her the woman just couldn't help herself. Ticene was still laughing when someone appeared in front of her, pushed a warm bubblypie into her hands and then disappeared into the crowds again.

So what? I don't care if he thought he was kissing the Weyrwoman. He had no right to grab a dragonrider like that. You'd give me off to anyone wouldn't you? Lorend accused her dragon. Really the green had no standards. Well except the poor blues, but really they were just blues. Foen continued to hiss at people until she calmed him. Now she as impatient for her bubbly pie. It almost wasn't worth the hastle to come out.

Lorend reached the counter and quickly haggled for three of the pies. She took her prize and moved off away from the crowd. The first big bite of hot flaky crust and hot berry filling made her close her eyes. A cheep in her ear brought her back. "Oh I suppose you deserve some too." Lorend broke off a piece and handed it to the blue. She stood watching the people move past and eating her pies. Spotting a drink stand she made her way over to oder some cider. Something freshing in this heat.

The green rumbled uneasily. No, no she wouldn't! She only wanted someone to treat Hers like a lady. Tribleth sadly laid her head on her feet and sighed.

They haggled for several minutes. M'bad enjoyed himself. This was part of the gather fun. However the man didn't impress him much. Finally he let him buy one of the lesser polished gems. Not that he sold bad wares or anything, but it was the lower end of what he'd work with. The gem itself was still very pretty and would make a nice gift.

He moved on to see what else might get his attention. M'bad was curious to see if anyone was selling raw stones. Rievegeth, we should go out looking for gems sometime. Honestly he was looking forward to all the places he could get to with the dragon. No more traveling long distances by foot for him. M'bad grinned.

The dragon rumbled softly as the blue flit got bored. He could barely blame the silly creature. After all Warsine wasn't him. I would enjoy an outing Mine. A chance to get out and stretch his wing would be nice.

Tadej listened closely and with a lot of interest as Feronell explained to him what he was learning thus far as a candidate. It was one of those things that made it sound all that much interesting, to be able to help the older riders bath their dragons. It was something that he'd love to do once in his life but figured that it was probably one of those things only open to the candidates to try. That or the riders who already had dragons and had to care for them constantly, "That must have been exciting." He murmured, the dragons were so big that it much have been an amazing experience to be so close to one knowing that you might end up with one of your own one day. It was a ling of thought that the boy quickly pushed aside, not wanting to let it linger too long in his thoughts.

When Feronell was suddenly bursting out with the words 'klah mugs' he turned to give him a curious look, wondering if that were some sort of new curse that he hadn't picked up on yet... that was until he explained that the kitchen staff was used to people taking those sorts of things and that they would be able to fit enough meat for new hatchlings, "That's a great idea." He said, giving a bright smile. A cup of meat would surely suffice when it came ot feeding a new firelizard, not to mention sharing a little with the other three given that he could tell already that they were interested at the mention of meat, though Einion only slightly. Once the egg had hatched he was sure that the bronze would care a bit more. For the moment though what mattered was the egg and the one scratching and peeping inside of it.

He lifted the egg up once more, inspecting it closely where he could see the smallest of hairline cracks, before he turned to look over at his new friend only to find him digging around in the sand as Tadej had been doing a moment before... and suddenly he was producing a little egg of his own, "Hey, wow! Nice find." He said, giving a smile. He was never happier then to see the other boy find such a prize given Feronell had been saying moments before how he didn't have one of his own. Such a good find he thought to himself.

At the question of whether or not he would check the egg when he got there Tadej gave a nod, "Of course!" He wanted nothing more then to help the boy out given that he had been only kind to him since they had met. He would be only more then happy to help him out in return. The two of them, along with the trio of perching, humming flits were soon hurrying along that much quicker to the kitchens now that they each had an egg that was near to hatching and more then sure to be starving by the time they hatched. It wasn't quite a dragon hatching but to Tadej it was still just as exciting since one of the eggs was his... of course this meant he would need to figure out how to explain this to his father later but he would worry about that after the little one was hatched. For the moment what mattered most was the eggs that were in their hands.

"J'nes, I'm tired!" Ionan protested when he was teased. "Not sixteen marks!" He crossed his arms, frowning slightly. The heat was getting to him, and he was tired, perhaps due for his afternoon nap. Ionan was a bit old for taking naps, at six turns old. However, the creche volunteers had quickly learned that all was not well when Ionan missed a nap. He fussed. He tantrumed. He screamed.

However, this wasn't one of those times. He watched Jennes with amazement; he'd never seen anyone treat a plush so roughly! In the creche, personal toys were rare and often kept well. He frowned at Jennes, shaking his head. "Don't hurt it," he said, carefully taking a firelizard plush. He held out his mark.

"I accept, Jennes! Can I have a hug, too? Iona and I are gonna go get drinks and food and then I'm gonna rest. I want this one!" He showed Jennes the firelizard plush. It's mine! 'Noa, pick yours and Dugan's, okay? And Tic! You gotta pick yours!"

G'deon turned toward the man that was wobbling his way, stepping forward to catch the man to keep him from collapsing, "Seems you are deep in your cups, eh?" He commented, then suddenly found himself being kissed. Well now, that was a surprise but one that had the green rider grinning a bit, "Well now, someone is rather friendly today." He loved gather days, they always brought out the best in people... or just the friendly drunk at least. There was mention of a date, a good time, and maybe more but he didn't worry about that for now, instead just enjoying what was right there in his arms, that being his new, drunken companion. Encouraged by the affectionate behavior of said drunk the green rider wrapped his arms around the man, pulled him closer, and gave him a kiss in return for the one that he'd been given.

"There were go, now we are even, a kiss for a kiss." He said, giving a grin before he tried to recall what it was that he was doing before he'd been distracted by free kisses. Ah, he loved gathers! As he thought this he could almost feel Tzo's disapproving gaze falling upon him, knowing full well that she needed to lighten up a bit... Ah yes! Wasn't he going to get her something to eat to make her more cheery? At least he recalled what it was that he was going to do before he'd been waylaid with free kisses.

((Tadej, finder of flit nests! My gracious! XD ))

Lute had been milling about, investigating some food stalls, debating on whetheror not she was wanting something more savory or something decidedly sweet. Her answer came to her quite literally. A person just came striding up from her side, got her attention, and handed her a bubblypie! She blinked at the gracious pie bearer and gave a bit of a confused but thankful smile. "Oh...Thank you. Heh." As the gifter moved away, she looked down at the still warm pie, shrugged, and gave it a nibble.

Ionan's increasing volume and grouchiness could only mean that his nap was fast approaching. His state could lead to a scene if it wasn't managed carefully. "I know, Ionan, I know. It's very hot." Iona rubbed his back between his shoulder blades. "Okay. Okay, you're buying. Very well." The girl shifted her attention to Jennes when he began answering her questions over the matter of price. She listened, tipping her head back very slightly at picking up the emphasized "Ionan". She got his meaning. Jennes was trying to be nice and tactful with her little brother, but the sticking point was that Ionan simply didn't have quite enough to cover the cost of the plushes that he was wanting to buy. "Ahh."

The toys were obviously well made, what with the demonstration Jennes gave of whipping the stuffed feline around, tugging at it, and bashing it around. There was no straining of the stitches. No straining of fabric. Good stuff. Iona glanced down to Ionan at his selecting of the firelizard plush. Had a deal been struck? Perhaps to Ionan's liking, but then again deal was definitely stacked in Ionan's favor. "Huh? Oh, yes." She still had to pick a plush for herself and Dugan. Hm. Giving the table a once over, she selected one of the small stuffed felines and picked a small stuffed canine for Dugan. He'd probably get a kick out of it. She'd give him a kick if he said otherwise.

Hm. There had to be a way to get her fellow candidate a fair number of marks without offending Ionan. Her brother had so wanted to buy everyone gifts on his own, but she didn't want Jennes to get the short end of the stick either. Ah! An idea. Quietly pulling out the needed marks, she hid them in the palm of her hand before extending her hand out to Jennes, apparently offering to shake his hand. She smiled to him. "Thanks, for being so patient with him, Jennes." Hopefully he wouldn't give her up. Ionan would be sure to tantrum, especially as tired, thirsty, and hot he was.

All of a sudden, a bubblypie was thrust into her free hand. "Oh! Uh, thank you..." She barely even got a look at who gave it to her but it was free and they sounded nice enough. Iona laughed lightly. "Everyone is being so nice today! Aren't gathers just so great?"

Walking through the gather alone was a dark beauty, drawing glances from the men she swept by. None really were to her tastes, but still she threw bewitching smiles to them as she left them with thoughts of nothing but her. A small crowd caught her eye and amongst it a man she deemed to her tastes. Changing her direction the woman glided toward him with a deliberate sway of her hips. Her red dress whispered along the ground, the grown was obviously designed to show off the woman's generous curves; with a low cut front, tightening at her waist, sweeping out at the hips and with a cut in the fabric up to mid-thigh to reveal tantalising glimpses of her legs as she walked.

"Hello, handsome." The woman purred as she drew closer to R'yn. With one elegant motion she flicked her hair ebony curls behind her. By the time she finally stopped there was not enough space to breath between the Weyrleader and herself. Dark eyes looked up at him from under long lashes with a beckoning look. "I'm sure a good-looking man like yourself wouldn't allow me to spend the gather alone, would you?" Reaching up the woman trailed her fingers down R'yn's face as she pouted her full lips. The false sweetness in her voice was only to get what she wanted as the woman pressed ever closer to R'yn.

R'yn went pale a woman drew near to him--frantically looking about. He flashed a panicked expression towards Tic. Whatever he'd done to deserve this, couldn't she call this woman off? Was she being paid to do this? Had someone tried to catch him looking at other women? His heart sped off, though his legs were quite solid in remaining where they were. "No, you see--" he hesitated, glancing again at Ticene.

"I'm quite happy with Ticene here," he gestured to her. He took a step back. "N'rin, however, is available." He gestured to his friend. "He doesn't mind taking a lonely woman through the Gather. I--" he hesitated once more. "Already have my lovely lady here with me." And though Ticene might never have dressed that way, though Ticene would have never approached him that way--he loved her so much more for it.

Tic's laughter was interrupted when Ionan called her name. She turned back to look at the boy, having missed what price he had finally settled on. She'd have to find some way to repay him. Maybe letting him get away from the kitchen with treats for several months would do it. Turning and stepping away from R'yn, Tic took several steps before she heard R'yn's voice. The tone of his voice caused the woman to look back over her shoulder. What she saw caused a very dark expression to take over the Weyrwoman's face. Oh, she was going to kill that woman. Tic was feeling somewhat possessive that morning. The look was enough to cause the image of Ticene sprouting claws and taking a swipe at the woman to leap to mind.

Spinning around she took a purposeful step forward to give the woman what she deserved, when a solid wall of flesh came between her and her target. Tic looked up at the man that blocked her path, the scowl not even flickering in its severity. What in between's name did he want? By the look of him the man was clearly drunk. Ticene tried to step around the man only for him to side-step into her path again. "Now dun be runnin' uh-way. You uh-n me could have erselfs a good time." Ticene's scowl instantly melted to be replaced by one of shock and disgust. Did he honestly just suggest what she thought he did? Given the way he leered at her, it looked like he did. Tic's insides actually felt like they had cringed at the idea of having the man anywhere near her.

"I don't think so." It was impossible for Tic to keep the repulsion out of her voice as she once again tried to move around the man, she still had to kill that woman. Instead she was once again cut off, but this time the man was not content to simply block her. Tic felt his arms go around her and a wave of fear welled up to swallow her. The man caught a hold of her hips and pulled the young woman against him, trapping her against his larger form. Ticene had never felt fear like this before. She had always been such a coarsely dressed teenager; nobody had ever tried anything like this with her. She had been grabbed for stealing and restrained from fighting, but this was entirely different, this was the only time she had genuinely felt fear.

The smell of wine had engulfed her and only added fuel to Tic's fear. She looked up at the man with wide and terrified eyes. She could feel Calith standing on her ledge and roaring her fury at this man who dared to touch her rider. Despite all of Calith's cries for her to strike him Ticene was frozen, besides her arms were pinned to her sides. Soon the dragon gave up and forced her voice into R'yn's mind instead. Her rage and violence slamming into him with the command to save her rider now. It all felt so far away from Ticene as ice filled every inch of her body. "L-let me go." She tried to sound stern, but all that had come out was a petrified squeak of a sound.

The man tilted his head to the side, his drunken brain clearly not understanding why this small woman seemed so distressed with the situation. "Dun worry, sweet, wull have fun." A drunken sneer appeared on the man's face before he leaned down and pressed his lips to Ticene. A shriek of protest was muffled by her assailant as Ticene screamed inside of her own mind. Luckily Calith was a convenient mouthpiece as the dragon screamed out her rider's terror and her own outrage into an ear-shredding sound.

"Then we have a deal!" Jennes said, grinning at Ionan. Typically a handshake would be traditional to seal a deal, but he supposed a hug would work just as well. But first he needed to get these eggs out of his hands. After a moment's thought, he wrapped them in a bit of scrap cloth and tucked them in the sand. The hut sun and sand had kept them warm enough until now; it'd do to keep them warm for a little longer. He placed a stool over the eggs so he wouldn't step on them by accident, then came around the table to give Ionan that hug.

Perhaps Iona knew a thing or two more about haggling, since she offered Jennes a handshake after she'd picked a couple toys. He smiled and reached out to shake her hand, saying, "My pleasure! I'm always happy to help out a child, and Ionan's a good kid." Then his eyebrows raised slightly as he felt the coins in her palm. Well now, it seems like she got his hidden meaning quite well. After a brief pause, he gave her the tiniest of nods, palmed the coins and tucked his hands in his pockets so he could tuck them away without Ionan being suspicious. He'd check how many there were later, but he expected it would be fair. This was turning out to be a very good day indeed.

But not for everyone, it seemed. Jennes has to try had to keep himself from laughing when a flirty woman practically attached herself to the Weyrleader. R'yn looked so uncomfortable, his expression was almost comical. But Jennes had little doubt the man could free himself, especially since Ticene was headed that way, glaring daggers as the flirt.

Then Ticene was ambushed by her own stranger interested in things not suitable for children's ears. Only this one was much less subtle in his desires. Before long she was in a position she clearly did not want to be in, and obviously frightened. Jennes didn't need to hear Calith's deafening roar to tell that. Jennes was briefly frozen. He had to help her! But how? Fighting kids he could pull apart or distract, but this man was far too big to be dragged off by the ear. He didn't think his punch would do much if he tried that, as he wasn't the strongest person. Well, there was always another childhood trick.

Jennes strode up behind the man, grabbed a double handful of the man's hair, and yanked back with all his strength. He was trying to at least get the man's attention and maybe get his mouth off the weyrwoman. "You should let her go," he said, far more tightly than anyone present had ever heard him speak. "Hear that roar? Her dragon is upset. And you don't want to upset a dragon."

"Let her go!" R'yn was shorter than the man pinning Ticene, but with turns of flying, chasing after candidates and drilling riders, he was muscular. "Leave her alone!" What else could he do? What was he supposed to do? This man was attacking Ticene! Hurting her! Scaring her! He had to help! But--how? He was ahead of Calith--but the gold's voice was too much for him.

Like any dragon, he felt the need to obey the violent sound within his mind. He had to save Ticene. Blue gray eyes glazed with the tell-tale sign of a man speaking with his dragon, verbal words seemed to escape him. He reached for his belt knife, growling. "You will let her go!" he spat, former demands clearly forgotten. He pushed at the man, roughly, being sure to show him the sharpened blade.

"You let her go, or you won't live to see another sunrise," he threatened, ignoring Jennes for the most part. Was he another threat to Ticene?
