Ithil froze when Lightning jerked back hissing at her. She narrowed her eyes in ‘sit and be still’ glare. She didn’t yell since he did have the decency to come back so she didn’t have to move. Instinct her paw.. this male was just a pain in the tail. She just grunted and looked back at the place she had been cleaning when he jerked back. She didn’t care if it sounded lady like or cute. That wasn’t her. As she raised her paw she realized the marks were only a little wider spaced than if she had scratched him. Fighting? This moron fights? She sat for a minute deciding what to do next she sucked in some air and moved in front of the male. Oh she wanted to yell. This male clearly had a lot of issues and there seemed to be some pain etched into his face. Strange why hadn’t she noticed that before? Instead she took a long slow breath out after she closed her eyes. Her voice was quite and carefully controlled. “Tell me the areas that are worst so I’ll avoid them.” She opened her eyes and waited.

Lightning fought the urge to wince at the sound of her irritated grunt. He succeeded, if only for the fact that he was too busy worrying what the Gladier's sudden silence meant. Maybe she was finally fed up with him and was going to leave. Or suggest he leave. It could've been that she was preparing herself to lecture or yell at him. Or maybe she was just stunned. From what he'd seen, not many Gladiers shared his... overly feral instincts. When he heard her speaking, he opened his eyes to look at her. Surprise dominated his expression for a moment before the statement really sunk in. He glanced away, not wanting to meet her gaze. He didn't know why. Was it guilt? Some sort of regret about her seeing his wounds and scars? Embarrassment? He didn't think it could be. After all, he hadn't started those fights. He'd simply retaliated when attacked. Lightning shoved his thoughts away in order to answer Ithil's question. "Right shoulderblade and left flank," he replied, trying not to show his discomfort beyond what Ithil had already seen. He didn't know what was going on with him. Since when did he take it to heart what someone else said? All the time, actually (though he'd never admit it), but he hadn't let someone else's actions or words bother him this much in a long time. 'Because she complimented you,' his mind replied. 'Even if she didn't mean to, she called you incredible.'

That thought didn't seem to want to remove itself from the front of his mind. "Hey... Ithil-Alu. Can I ask you a question?"

Ok so then she would avoid his right shoulder and left flank. Moving back she started to clean the mud off his left shoulder. The male had shown he was very uncomfortable with her presence. She tried to keep her touch light so as not to cause so much pain. It wasn’t easy because she wondered if he was made of mud and not of flesh. She supposed she was just as bad, possibly worse. She paused for a fraction of a second while he asked his question. Moving around him to his right flank she answered. “Well you can ask, but that doesn’t mean I’ll answer. So don't be to surprised.” The ear that had swirls on it rose up a bit since she was listening carefully. She wondered what his question was. She had figured if he was to ask something he would yell and demand an answer. She didn’t say anything about why he was so submissive right now. To be honest she was grateful, after all if he had been argumentative right now she would probably have to knock him out to get his wounds tended too.Maybe that would be easier she reflected.

To be fair if he asked a question then she’d ask one. Well she supposed that she had already asked a question but hopefully he wouldn’t notice. If he did then she’d just argue him down.

Lightning relaxed ever so slightly as she continued her cleaning--and stopped staring at him. When she answered him, he took a few minutes to think of how to word it. "After I jumped... You said I was incredible." His voice grew quieter with each word and kept his lightning blue gaze fixed on his paws. "Did you... really mean that?" No one ever complimented him. Not anymore. Whenever the other Gladiers played games with him, they got mad at him. He was too good, too bad, or too competitive. He just couldn't win with them!

He didn't know why Ithil was acting so differently than everyone else he'd met. He wasn't complaining, but the female confused him. She'd started out yelling and glaring death at him, but now she was cleaning his fur and talking with her normally. And her touch was so gentle now. 'It's... kind of nice...'

Had she said that? Ith thought back. She must have before she passed out. Well she couldn’t very well tacit back since he had heard her correctly. Pity. The last thing she needed was others to think her some sappy fangirl. She couldn’t just lie either. Taking a breath she rocked her head back and forth trying to figure out how to best reply. “It was incredibly stupid. I’ve rarely seen someone so reckless, but yeah. I did mean it. You looked pretty cool. Stupid pawn of storms.” She stuck her tongue out at him but there was no power or venom behind her words. It was just some facts to her. Nothing more.

Feeling a sudden yawn come on Ith tried to fight it back and failed. Well the male would never win a contest in looks but at least he couldn’t pass for a sludge monster now. The same couldn’t be said for Ithil. She was still coated in mud but to tired to give a shake of her tail about it.

He felt his tail flicking happily back and forth behind him. Happily? Yes, he was happy. A compliment that doubled as an insult was still a compliment--something he got rarely. He lifted his head and smiled ever so slightly as she stuck her tongue out at him, the rest of his body removing itself from the ground as she yawned. "Fair enough. But now it's my turn to help you." His lightning blue eyes stared at her with a straight, honest, and determined gaze, his own version of the 'no argument' glare Ithil had used on him. "You rest," he urged gently. Huh. Gently. That was a new one. "I'll get the mud off your back."

(( This is such an odd duo. XD I can't tell if they're two peas in a pod or polar opposites. ))

She looked at him mildly surprised. He had fed her, taken her to safety and was now willing to help get the muck off her? Was he a pain in the tail or a gentleman? Both she decided. She was going to argue with him but another yawn cut her off. Giving up she rolled her eyes and laid down right where she was. Her eyes were starting to sting with sleep so she closed them. To her shock what she way when she closed her eyes where Lightning Pawn’s eyes staring back at her so honest and open. She opened her eyes and blinked a few times. It didn’t mean anything only that the idiot had intense eyes like a storm of their own. Right? “No more questions for me?”

(A bit of both I think. Ith is actually really nice, but Lightning is just the right kind of foolish that sets her blood a boil and she rarely holds back when she has something to say. She doesn't tolerate recklessness in others well so she tends to yell a lot.)
PostPosted: Fri Jul 20, 2012 7:53 pm

Lightning blinked at her question. He shook his head, despite his mind reminding him of several that had been bothering him more and more as time wore on. 'Why is she being so nice to me? What made her change her mind? Why... am I so willing to trust her?' But Ithil was tired and he doubted his questions could be answered simply. "No, no questions," he replied aloud as he turned his attention to the drying mud packed onto Ithil's coat. 'This,' he thought as he began his task, 'is something I can do.' He carefully dragged his claws through the muck, his mind wandering for a moment or two as he relieved Ithil of her muddy burden. 'Zare could do this and you wouldn't even notice. I wonder if I could ever pull that off? Maybe there's a trick to it...' When the mud was still wet, the Gladier simply scraped it off and flung it at the wall to remove it and prevent build-up on his paws. When it was dry, he broke the clumps down and brushed away the loose pieces of dirt.

Hopefully she could rest in spite of his odd grooming. She looked like she needed the rest. 'Well, you did interrupt her nice nap, you know,' his mind reminded him. 'And if her day's been as strange as yours, it's no surprise that she's exhausted.'

(( Lightning is also pretty nice. He's just not very good at expressing his niceness. Plus, he's a reckless black sheep with a defensive streak.
... And he actually gets flustered pretty easily. 8'D ))

Odd. Yes that was what the sensation was. She could feel light drags through her fur and him picking at it occasionally. She didn’t much like him pulling at her fur, but she was too tired to stop him. She wasn’t used to being touched by others. Closing her eyes she again saw Lightning’s face. She didn’t bother opening her eyes she just kept her eyes closed while she could feel the male cleaning the grime from her. So he didn’t have anything else he wanted to know. That was good because she’d have to hurt him when she got up if he asked a really stupid question. Slowly she just started to lose consciousness. It was slow to drift off into the realm of sleep.

As she drifted off she lost track of what was going on. Lightning no longer existed to her. The pain of the day subsided and she numb. She could feel some pressure on her back it didn’t hurt. A small purr escaped her as she stretched out so that the pressure could cover more of her. The fatigue of her muscles dissipated as she gave in and slept. Her breathing slowed and she laid limp under Lightning’s touch. As she started to dream her hind left leg twitched. She turned her head in her sleep and muttered. “Stupid pawn.”

(Then they are two peas in a pod ^.^ )

Lightning relaxed when Ithil did. He managed not to jerk back in his surprise when she purred and stretched herself out. After a moment he smiled and obeyed the silent request to continue his grooming. He blinked when she muttered at him, glancing at her face. When he realized she was still asleep, he found himself chuckling. "Even in your sleep I irritate you," he mused quietly. What was this strange... pulling feeling? He felt like if he even attempted to leave the shelter, he'd be dragged back by this strange emotion. It wasn't quite happiness. Fondness, maybe? Friendship? It was likely. Even though they weren't exactly happy with one another, they had definitely helped each other out. That's what friends did, right?

Eventually he lowered his paws to the ground in front of him, inspecting his work. There were still little bits of mud here and there, but the majority was gone. 'Zare had a trick to getting the rest of it off. What was it...?' He searched his memory and made a face as he found his answer. 'Ooooh no. I am NOT licking her fur. If she woke up, she'd kill me!' Even in her sleep, she might kill him for it. She already seemed to be irritated at him in her dream. Instead, he looked up at the storm for a minute, absently lifting his paw and stroking Ithil's fur with it. Even damp, it was surprisingly soft...

(( Even if they're two reluctant peas in a pod. XD ))

(Time skip. Let me know if you don’t want and I’ll change it.)

Very nice. Ith could feel something warm against her back. It wasn’t unpleasantly heavy and she felt great. Sighing contentedly she slowly opened her eyes. She could hear some light rain but it seemed the worst of the storm had passed. Well that’s nice I really should tell the pawn of storms. She pulled her head up and looked around. The male was right next to her. She wanted to move and scurry away from him but she didn’t want to move it was rare for her to wake up this comfortable and she’d be darned if she was gonna move just because that idiot was next to her. Laying her head back down she listened to the splash of rain droplets while she considered everything that had happened. She met a fool. Yelled at said fool, fainted like a wimp, he took care of her. Tilting her head just so she saw a lot of the mud that had been on the fur was gone.

She whispered quietly not knowing if he was awake or not. “Hey it sounds like the storm has blown over for the most part.” Shifting her weight she tried to turn her body without actually getting up. This way she was curled toward the male so she could better see him and judge what he was going to act like now. Gentlemen, feral, or reckless freak?

PostPosted: Sat Jul 21, 2012 6:22 pm

A quiet voice gently tugged Lightning from his dreams. 'The storm... is over? That can't be right. It was at its peak a minute ago...' And yet all he could hear was the sound of rain. "Guess I fell asleep," he mumbled. He opened his eyes, the lightning blue orbs drowsily fixing on the first thing he saw: Ithil. "Hi." His brain couldn't seem to find anything better for him to say. He lifted his head and seemed ready to get up, but then he flopped back against the ground again. 'Limbs are too heavy,' his mind reported. 'More rest required.' He was too tired to even remove his paw from Ithil's back. He gave the receding storm a bleary glance and muttered, "Seven more minutes," before proceding to let his eyes slide closed. 'About seven minutes of guaranteed sleeping time...'

(( It's fine. Hrm... debating whether I should make him freak out in the near future or not... ))

Well really now if he hadn’t fallen asleep then he had certainly done a good impersonation of it. Ith resisted the urge to roll her eyes. “Hi yourself.” She watched his head go up and drop down she was a bit worried but that was dashed away with his next words. More time to sleep? She tried hard not to giggle. She could feel the tremors of laughter bubbling through her and she curled her paw over her mouth to keep from laughing. She never would have imagined the male looking so hopeless and whipped as he did right now. It was adorable! Ith felt so much better after having rested. She was one of those kinds of gladiers that got enough rest and then was up right away. Sleeping in was hard for her, apparently Lightning was different.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 22, 2012 8:08 pm

As he started to drift off, Lightning heard a muffled sound nearby. '... That sounds familar. Kind of like...' Oh no. That wasn't a good sound.

'MOVE.'

The Gladier's body instantly reacted to the mental command. His eyes shot open as he pulled himself to his feet with surprising speed. However, half-asleep was half-asleep, even for him. After a few stumbling steps, he went tumbling and slammed into the muddy wall of the shelter. He got back to his feet and inspected himself hurriedly before he looked at his surroundings for other Gladiers.

He only found Ithil.

"Oh." Of course. There wouldn't be anyone else out here besides her--especially not another female. Now that he looked at her, she did have a paw over her mouth. 'Idiot. She was probably just trying not to laugh at something you said or did.' He could feel the heat rising to his face and he was glad he had such dark fur to at least mostly hide whatever blushing he was doing. Lightning felt overwhelmingly embarrassed as he just curled up where he was and closed his eyes. Maybe he could go to sleep and forget this little incident. 'Just bury me now...' He wasn't even sure he wanted to know how Ithil would react. 'It could've been worse,' his mind tried to tell him. 'You could've yelped.' He didn't want to hear it. To be seen doing something like that around someone like Ithil was just downright humiliating...

Feeling a sudden push off her back Ithil’s amusement stopped. She stared froze as she saw Lightning suddenly charge the wall of their shelter. She stayed laying down in the position she was in when he turned glaring around the room and then simply nonchalantly said ‘oh’ before promptly laying down and curling up. She just lay there wide eyed and confused for a few moments before indignant anger got her to get up. Had he come back she would have just laughed at him, but there he was running away again and curling up like she didn’t exist. REALLY NOW! What was all that about? First he falls asleep on me and then he just charges off into a wall before laying down again? Does he have some kind of freak out disorder that pops up randomly though the day? Or maybe he just hates my company so much that he has to get away at every turn. Well I’ll show him what’s what! She moved over to the curled up ball. She eyed him for a second to see if he would look at her then just decided on talking anyway. “That looked pretty stupid you know. Still it’s a pretty funny way to wake up. ”

Faking a large yawn she rubbed her eyes. “You know you’re pretty comfortable to sleep near. If you think you can get away from being a pillow that easily you’re sadly mistaken.” Well to be fair she had been the pillow before but she doubted the male would be paying to much attention with what she planned next. She sat up on her hind legs and launched her over him so she was laying across the top of the curled male. There lets see him charge into a wall when he’s weighed down! Stupid idiot.
