A movement caught her eye and she turned on her heel in time to see a villager come at them. "Look out!" The hunters ducked, braced themselves or readied themselves to fight off the villager. Unfortunately they chose Anita as their target, but Candace was able to shove them off her before it could do too much harm to her. Quote: 4-7: A villager lunges out! Things were relatively okay. They could make it. They'd get this. Candace was given a responsibility, to get these hunters safely to the base, and she was going to damn well carry it out. They would all make it back safe and sound. "Eli! Look ou--" "s**t!" Candace turned on her heel in time to watch Eli get grabbed and dragged into the dog. No!"Stay here." She ordered the team. Just one of her would be faster than the whole group of them. She was faster on her feet at the moment, especially with Atropos summoned. They watched her run off into the fog. She was not leaving her behind. Quote: 20: A villager manages to grab the hunter and drag them into the fog! This character is now missing. You can choose to go look for a hunter in an attempt to reclaim them. To do so, roll five 10-sided dice. You need to roll at least three positive numbers to recover them. Three odd? Candace moved quickly through the fog, stopping only to listen for footsteps. She heard them, she followed them. They took her nowhere. A scream, a cry for help. Was it in her head or was that really Eli? Candace cursed, following every sound that looked like it could be leading her to rescuing the hunter. No. No, no, no! No! They were her responsibility she had to bring all of them back! She couldn't just leave her behind.. She's gone, Candace.. Atropos purred softly. Her voice was gentle and soft, an effort to comfort the distraught trainee. Go back to the others before you lose anyone else, okay? Candace slowed to a stop, biting down on her lip. But Eli-- You didn't even know her name until five minutes ago....True. Candace turned and headed back to the group, using the scanner to find them through the fog. When she returned she looked up to find them watching her with expectant looks on their faces. That only upset her more. She frowned, averting her gaze. "I..I looked all over. I couldn't find her anywhere. There's too much fog. I'm sorry." Candace rubbed at the back of her neck and sighed, looking down at the scanner. "...We have to keep going." It hurt to say that. She didn't want to leave that poor woman behind. Who knew what they would do to her.. "This way." Her voice was soft, following the direction the scanner told her to go. She walked quietly, shoulders sagging. A hand fell onto her shoulder and she tensed, turning on her heel and slapping it away without a second thought. Her eyes were wide as she stared up at Draven, his good hand raised in an unoffensive stance. "It's just me." Candace relaxed, sighing and ruffling her hair. "Sorry. I'm not..used to this.""Used to what? Leading? I can take over if--" "I'm not used to dealing with this. With..with losing people. With having to decide whether to leave someone behind." She clutched the scanner tightly in her hand. "It's been a long day. I mean, nothing compared to you guys but.." Draven shrugged. "It's fine..." He gave her coat a look, a brow arching. "You're just a trainee." "Intermediate." She corrected, pouting. "And I'm not just a trainee. I'm not just...some label on a piece of paper or on my coat. I'm sick of being called 'just a trainee'. I'm more than that.." Candace looked up at Draven again. "Sorry, I'll stop. Now's not the time for this." Draven chuckled and raised his hand again, giving her shoulder a squeeze. "You're fine. Don't worry. Let's just not forget where we're headed, got it?" Another squeeze and he released her, falling in step behind Candace. She sighed, though now it was with relief. They'd be okay. "Candace, hang on." Candace blinked, looking back to see what was the matter. Wait, where was Draven? Oh hell no! She was not losing him t--oh, there he was. He was curled around his broken arm in pain, nearly doubled over. She frowned. "Take a few minutes to rest. Judy, how's your leg?""Been better." She laughed, leaning on another hunter. Candace forced a smile and nodded. Quote: 15: One of the hunters lags behind. Stop and rest. Things had been going well for a few minutes until a pair of villagers jumped onto Anita. Candace cursed, turning back again to fight them off. "Man, they really don't like you." One of the hunters teased with a weak smile, helping Anita up. They were trying to keep the mood as light as possible to preserve their own sanity. "Obviously she insulted their mother." Candace cracked a smile. "We can't waste time. Come on."Quote: 8-10: Two villagers lunge out of the fog! Target takes -5 damage. No movement. Out of the fog came yet another villager. They were everywhere! She jumped on Draven's back and nearly sent him to the ground. Another hunter grabbed her by the hair and dragged her off of him, releasing her to shove her back into the fog. "Keep going!" Quote: 4-7: A villager lunges out! Target takes -3 damage. +1 movement. Candace was feeling better. They were close to the base camp. Almost there! Almost home! They would be safe soon. Soon.. "Hey, Draven? Did you guys--" Candace looked back in time to watch in horror as a villager grabbed Draven right from the edge of the fog and dragged him away. "DRAVEN! NO!" She ran in without a second's hesitation. The rest of the group stayed safely behind. Quote: 20: A villager manages to grab the hunter and drag them into the fog! This character is now missing. "Draven? DRAVEN!" She followed the scanner this time. Aria had said the hunters gave off a trace of Fear because of their weapons, and there it was. A dot. Draven. It was moving slowly but surely. She ran as fast as she could. She had to get him. She had to. The dot disappeared. Wait, what? Candace stopped, hitting the scanner. Come on, stupid thing! Work! No dot. No traces of Fear other than her own and the group she'd left behind to find Draven. No.She looked around, listening for something. Anything. She heard rustling, she heard footsteps. What didn't she hear? Screams, shouts. Fighting. She didn't hear that. No... When Candace returned to the group she was a lot more somber than she had been the last time this happened. The group, now down two hunters, was disappointed to see Candace once again return without one of their comrades. "I'm sorry. I..it just...he disappeared. I looked all over. I...I couldn't.." Don't cry. Don't cry. Do. Not. Cry.Candace cleared her throat, ruffling her hair and shaking her head head. "Rest up. We'll continue in a couple minutes.."Damnit.She was not losing anymore hunters. She was responsible for them. They were hers to take care of. I'm so sorry...Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing your best. Some things can't be helped... Candace bit down on her lip, nodding. I know but--You won't lose another. I promise. How could she be so sure..? Quote: 15: One of the hunters lags behind. Stop and rest. No movement forward. They were getting up to leave when it happened. The mob. They ran in as quickly as a hoard of Insanity-infected townspeople could run. They shoved through the group, trampling Corwin in the process. It would be comical if not for the pre-existing injuries. The mob continued on its way. Simply passing through. Quote: 16-19: A mob of villagers shamble out of the fog. Target takes -7 damage. Another mob came through, once again shoving through the crowd. Corwin was slower to move out of the way, at least until Candace shoved her way through the mob to drag him out of it, shoving villagers off him. She was not losing another goddamn hunter. Corwin groaned. "Thanks.." "No problem. Just lean on me, okay? I can take it."Quote: 16-19: A mob of villagers shamble out of the fog. Target takes -7 damage. No movement forward. There came a snarl followed by a shout from Anita as a villager lunged at her. Candace turned to fend it off but Anita seemed to have a handle on it, grabbing the man on her by the arm and throwing him over her shoulder. He slammed to the ground, unmoving.
