Face the Darkness within

Malik turned his horse around to see his wife behind him. Her bright red hair being stared out by the people of the town. The man leaned over booth and pulled up a scarf, which a guard quickly paid for. He then walked over and put it on her head. Wrapping it around her chin. "I told you to stay in the castle." He mumbled to her. He didn't want anyone to hear the anger in his voice. "The least you could have done was wear something over your head so people don't stare. You don't care much for your health because the sun will burn your lighter skin and you seemed like the taste of windstorm in your mouth." He commented with a frown. "You know you will have to face punishment for this. Do you want me to take you here in the market place where everyone will hear?" He warned her.

Malik was not going to put up with the disobedience of wife. He smirked and said something to embrace her. "If you do not obey me I may as well take that woman as my wife. At least she bows before me." The man said. He pretty much said that his wife was untrustworthy to follow word and that a peasant was probably better than her. At this rate she still would make a good queen, but not a good wife. He wondered who taught her to behave in such a way.

"I apologize my prince. I was in such a hurry to be necessities for our palace I forgot the local customs of your city." Asalah admitted touching the head scarf on her head. "I do like to stay beautiful, but I doubt a few minutes out in the sun can destroy my image that quickly. I suppose I forgot that my homeland's deserts and yours are quite different in terms of heats and searing winds. But I will remember to take care of my body from now on." She snapped her fingers and one of the guards riding with her rode over next to her and unfurled an umbrella. It cast a shadow over her and partially over Prince Malik and the guard.

She wheeled her horse around slightly and saw that Alfina looked as though she was trying to leave. "I hate to bother you with more speech my prince, but the girl you were speaking with seems to be running from us. She may bow, but she clearly dislikes you more than I. Should I chase her down or send a guard after her?"

Asalah felt the desire to chase Alfina down due to being new to her position. She didn't want her husband to pick a new wife just yet when he'd barely known her a week. Asalah truly hoped Malik had not come to the market to do this, especially when she'd come to the market to buy things for her home. Very important things necessary for rearing children.

The small crowd that had formed was now, in 1s and 2s, slowly dispersing now that the bulk of the excitement was gone. Alfina was quietly making her way through the crowd and away. She had an appointment to keep in the town square with a group of musicians that played for tips every day till roughly 4 in the afternoon. She would dance to their music with a tambourin. Usually they made more tips when she was there dancing, so they gave her a share of the coin they got when she was there. She was eager to get there as early as possible so they could start early and hopefully get good coin sooner.

"Leave her." He ordered his wife. It wasn't like she was listening so far anyways. "I have no use for someone I don't know." He added. There was no way that she would want a street rat as a bride. No matter how well she looked. He only needed Asalah anyways. He again moved his horse so he was parallel to her. "I will escort you back to the palace." He told her. It was going to take him more time to go back and fulfill his duties before coming back to her.

Alfina hurried to the square just in time to meet with the musicians before they began playing. After a brief nod and pulling out her tambourine, the band began to play and she began to dance to the music, which drifted through the streets.
The music was good for such poor class players and instruments, but the real appeal was Alfina and the way she danced to the music. Almost everyone in town had come to watch her dance at least once and most of them came regularly to watch. Some even ventured so far as to say she may be talented enough to perform for royalty.

Eden blew a hair from the line of her vision as she rode along the rolling hills of the desert. She had been traveling for many days and had not been permitted to stop in any town, village, or city along the way for any reason. Her father had figured her out quickly; if he let her make a stop she would run away and be missing for weeks at a time. Her father was determined to send her where she couldn’t cause trouble and could marry, as was tradition. The caravan that was sent ahead of her as an offering to the princes of Assadaran should have arrived already to announce her arrival. This just meant that she would be expected soon, no spare time to explore. At least she had managed to smuggle her bow and arrows out of her kingdom and bring them along. She could be reminded of the freedom she once had. As the desert oasis came into view, Eden’s hand maid helped her to change into her proper clothing. No more pants for her, not ever. Now, she was decorated in many layers of silk that accentuated all of the right features present on her young body. As the finishing touch, she quickly wrapped a delicate scarf around her face and leaned out of the window of her escorting carriage to study what may be her new home. Once the waves of sand became smooth cobblestone roads, she was politely reminded to remain out of sight. Pouting childishly, Eden receded and took her seat, tracing the design sowed there in sparkling gold thread.
She wondered what the princes would look like, which prince would choose her, and how they would treat her. She didn’t want to be cooped up inside a palace, forced to have children for the rest of her natural life. She didn’t want a number hanging over her head, constantly reminding her of what place she held among the other women her husband would have. She had once traveled to a place where each man had one wife and treated her as if she was a precious gem. That was what she wanted, to be the one and only of the man she would marry. Regardless, it seemed as if that choice had be made for her; she would be given to a prince and taught what was expected of a woman. She looked down at her body, studying every soft curve and feature; with bitter spite, she wondered how a man planned to teach her such things.(yo. Curious about Eden? Asalah looked at her husband as he rode up next to her and smiled. "I'm glad you weren't going to pick her up off the street. You hardly know me yet and at the moment I'm still..." she paused for a moment and then spit out, "your favorite wife. I can come with you though right, since I'm here? It would be much easier to watch me you know if I did. You sound like you want to bring me along, so show me what you do dear." Asalah flicked the reins and her horse trotted forward at a a slow pace.

Malik looked at his wife. If he sent her back she would just come out again and it was a case where he would have to agree to what his wife says. "You may come, but you will not like it. My father has found two brides for a son and I'm to look at them and see if one is to my fancy. I hope you will not get jealous." The man commented with a smirk. He was trying to get his wife to turn in distaste and leave. "My brothers should be going their soon as well. Maybe they will ask father before me."

"Going to see your brothers sounds like fun." Asalah stated happily. "I would love to see the wives your father helps his son pick out. For I see any wives of them as potential sister-in-laws."

Asalah paused for a moment and crossed her arms, "All I ask is you do me the kind favor of shrouding my entire body from them. I know you like my beauty and so do I. I would rather not cause a problem by coming there and seeing that they are more beautiful than I or vice versa. It would disrupt our confidence as women and might make your brother decide on one of them over the other because of me."

Asalah thought about it a little more and realized she might cause more of a hindrance if she went, but to meet one's family was important in forming bonds. Harems needed strong leaders and she was likely to be one of them, so she needed to learn not to judge another's beauty by going to this. "If anything happens and they dislike me or I dislike them then it should not be a problem of escorting any of us out of his palace. I know I only get jealous if people are stronger than me. I am a warrior princess after all," she joked.

It wasn't working. She still wanted to come. He waved a guard over and commented something. The guard disappeared then Malik turned his head back. "I do not want to pick a wife and if can I'll get out of it. We both are still fresh to each other and you are my first, I need some time with you before I can think about another wife. What would be the point when the only thing I think about it you and not other women." He told her. The guard returned with a long strip of beautiful fabric. Malik took it and wrapped it around his wives body. "I don't want to expose you to the life at the court just yet. It is harsh and I love you too much. I would much rather see you in my castle for now. As soon as you bare a son then it tells my brothers that they better hurry or they will miss their chance to be king."

"I understand that you are not out to pick another wife and don't want to have me exposed to court life. But the truth is that I am a little scared. I'm not 100% sure I can live in your castle with other women yet that love you as much as I do. I've had women around me, but only maids. I figured I'd come with you to reduce my risks of hurting you or myself later. I have to learn to interact with the kinds of women that come daily into your life so that I cannot upset you or them when you wish to marry someone." Asalah expressed as the fabric Malik held went around her body and fit snugly.

"I will go home and wait for you my prince. Please help pick your brothers' wives well." she added. She turned her horse with a tight pull on her reins and faced it back towards their palace. "I don't want to see them disappointed when I come to meet them one day. They'll be angry at you and it will probably be taken out on me, but I know you won't let the worst happen to them." Asalah took off leaving a quick trail of dust and Malik alone.

Malik was happy that she listened. He really didn't want to take a new bride before he was settled with Asalah. He knew that he would have to sooner or later, but not just yet. The prince turned his horse towards his father palace. It wasn't long for him to convince his father that he didn't need another wife just yet. He soon was hanging up his reigns in the barn of his own palace. Once finished he walked up to his wife's room and knocked on the door. He hoped that she would let him in.
