"Lemme help." Shehk said as she joined in on pushing down on the worn side. The stone creaked and then relented underneath the push and-

"Oh f-

"OW!!"

Thud thump

"Dammit!"

Slip snap

"Oh my Jack, it smells like mold down here!"

Looked like Shehk's thought about stairs had been correct, and she'd plummeted right down them when the stone had been moved. The good news was, however, that she glowed enough to illuminate at least the bottom of the steps after her little tumble into the darkness of what looked to be a lot more stone.

"Merde!" Malodore hurriedly descended the stairs, its hooves clacking and clattering on the stone. "Are you all right, Shehk?!"

"Shehk!"

Down she went. Peering down, Jericho glanced at Malodore nervously before trying to see where she had gone. He could see her glow down below. Soon after Malodore went down, he rushed on after it to see if the Pricolici was alright.

"Are you alright? You didn't break anything did you?"

Shehk got up, patting herself off. "Fortunately I'm a rather durable creature. I think the term I'd use is 'the only thing hurt is my pride', but I think even that is holding up OK." she joked, before glancing around at the darkness.

It was colder down in the stone tunnels which were illuminated barely from the light from the top of the stares and the pricolici's glowing. "I think I should have brought a flashlight with me. I can see in the dark without too much problem, but..." she passed a look to her two companions - would they be alright?

"I, ah..." Malodore squinted behind the lenses. It could make out dim shapes, but not much more than that. "Plague doctors are not renowned for their night vision, either. But as long as you provide some light, I should be all right. Are we not here for adventure?" it continued, trying to sound more light-hearted. That was the point of this excursion, was it not? To be light-hearted?

Jericho let out a relieved sigh as Shehk was alright. Though, there was a bit of the issue of the night vision. He didn't really have good night vision either. Looking around, he tried to see if he could spot something he could use.

"If.. you two don't mind, and if we could find something flammable, I could provide a torch. Otherwise I might be stumbling around a bit in the dark here."

Shehk pressed one dimly glowing hand against the wall. "I can see far enough that we might be able to find a torch or something in a...a..." she made a rather entertaining to watch hand gesture, "Whatever you call those side fixtures..I'm sure they'd have 'em down here to illuminate the pathways by more than a torch."

Once the hand gesture was done, she reached out to try and touch her hand to the other wall to give both of her companions an idea of where said wall was. She'd also know if she ran in to anything.

"Hard to actually see what you're exploring when all you've got is the light of a Pricolici..." who, to be frank, kind of looked like a jar full of lightning bugs in the dark. Never the less, she cautiously moved forward, so that she didn't accidentally trip over anything in the dark.

Because she could see, but she would have hated for Jericho and Malodore to stumble because of her lack of foresight.

"So long as the torch stays well away from me, I do not mind it," Malodore said, after a moment. "Shall we move forward and see what we can find?" The plague doctor was already inching forward, one palm flat on the left wall to keep its bearings. It had, after all, endured far worse during the Trials.

"Alright. Though.. we'll need to find a torch to use first," Jericho said while touching the wall, trying to feel for any that might be there. He could see Shehk just fine. However, she didn't really give off enough light to be really usable for moving around in the dark.

"Until then.. lead the way!"

She had the best idea of where they were of the three of them after all. Taking in a breath, he used the wall to guide up while following the glowy canine.

She'd learned well enough to just not start herself on fire - that proximity was...alright...but still, flames made her nervous when they got too close.

Even with the ability to see in the dark, things were not as clear cut as seeing with a light source It was more like seeing in varitions of shadow where some were darker than others, but everything started at about 70% black. A few faint colors - generally enough to get through everywhere one would traverse in the dark. Maybe even find some things if she knew the edges she was looking for.

Which, fortunately, she seemed to. Basically her goals were 'something that look like it could be set on fire and not die in two seconds'. Malodore and herself fit the 'die in two seconds' criteria, so that was why that wasn't happening. That and setting your friends on fire was generally considered to be a bad thing.

She could have made fire and flames and analogies, but...
....
.....

Man she was glad it was dark right then.

The most tactile feelings she could get from the wall were that they were solid with no crack sin them - no real show of the age of time. There was something that felt like it had once tried to grow over the surface of the wall, but even in the faint amounts of light she could see in, she wasn't sure what it was. A few small indents could be felt where it seemed like someone would have put something - like a candle or a torch, or something else that would have glowed in the dark.

Besides a pricolici. She wasn't really the best light source, after all. Her fingers brushed over something that smelled vaguely dry - in a sort of dehydrated way, rather than in the same way dust smelled. "Did either of you two note a tree growing above us....?" she asked. "Because this smells like tree. Deciduous, at that. Probably really old, a bit withered...."

Having the note of a canine was a helpful thing, though it was probably easy enough to tell where she was going with her inquiry.

"I was focusing on the graves, alas," Malodore admitted, its claws making a faint scratching sound as it felt its way along the wall. It was not so bad, really - far better than the utter blindness of the maskless Void. "What are the notable features of this catacombs? Is there a forest down here?" That would be interesting. It had heard of trees that grew in the black spaces beneath the world, but never had the chance to see them.

... Or feel them, as the case may be.

"I... can't remember for sure. There might have been a deadish one up there?" Jericho said while trying to recall if there were trees up at the surface. There very well could have been.

"Is there a root here? Try breaking some off. We might be able to use that."

"Unfortunately I can't tell if there is a forest under here or not. So far I've seen a lot of dark shapes saying that the pathway is still narrow for at least another fifteen feet ahead and then it turns.

However, there's something growing across the walls that..it doesn't feel like mold, but it is definitely biological. Which was why I was asking about a tree." she explained, reaching out grab Jericho's hand before she tugged down on the root growing in through the ceiling - there was a lot of crackling as pieces of the wall and roof cracked away and clattered across the floor before a sickening snap as she half jerked back into her companions.

She pressed the root into Jericho's hand as she relinquished it.

"I need to start carrying a knife or- oh dammit..." she seemed to have just realized she could have asked Malodore about that.

"Er... would you like a feather?" Malodore asked, belatedly; its wings had come up when the walls released their detritus, and it now folded the long spars neatly once more.

It also inched away from the shadow that was Jericho, just for right now. "Then we can move with more purpose. What are the primary attractions of this catacomb?"

Jericho heard Shehk struggling a bit but he couldn't really help out. Though, before too long, he felt the root being placed into his hand. Alright. He had something to burn. The dragon turned away from the Pricolici.. and hopefully Malodore as well. He then breathed out some flames to ignite the makeshift torch, doing well to give them a source of light.

"This should last us a little while."

Not indefinitely, but they'd have some time with light at least. Hopefully by the time it died, they would have another torch to use. Possibly an actual one.

Now that he could see, the dragon took a moment to look around at their surroundings. It was more or less what he would have expected, seeing how they were in a catacomb. Nothing out of the ordinary from what he could tell so far.
