"Stuff came up." He blurted out his answer rather fast. "Plus, I said I wouldn't run away. I can't really go off and travel. I don't any sense of direction. So I may never make it back." Which was true. It was rare if Feron passed the same place twice when traveling. He really never had a permanent place to stay.

He frowned. He could tell she was concerned but... he just couldn't say it. It was hard to admit it. "I... I did something bad... Very bad." He fell silent and he lowered his head. That's all he would say to her. He wasn't ready to tell her what he actually did.
