Reiko scooped up some items from around her, and frowned a bit at what she saw. It seemed that she had gotten very little in the way of useful materials-fresh long grass, a worn out sheet, and some dried reeds.

Mitzi started looking around for anything she could use to build her campsite. There really wasn't much, unfortunately, and she scavenged a sheet that had probably been left from a previous training exercise, and found a jar of water that had probably been brought by the instructor and left to be found. The only other thing even potentially of use was several large rocks, which presumably she could find some sort of use for, but she couldn't think what.

Reiko began patting down bedding, creating a small space. It wasn't luxurious or anything, but the clansmember overseeing training walked by and nodded to her. She let a smile cross her face. She felt a swell of pride in her chest.

Mitzi, meanwhile, was not doing nearly as well. The bed she had made was at least such that she was pretty sure she could sleep on it, which admittedly was saying something for the Reaper ghoul, who was used to soft bedding. But she was not going to sleep well, or wake up comfortable. She poked at it a bit, rearranging the sheet and trying to find softer things to put underneath, but nothing she had gotten seemed really useful for that.

Reiko growled at the Clan child that came to try and kick her out of her spot. "No. I have settled here." She said sharply. She lashed out, striking the youth in the stomach. The Famine clan youth stared at her with wide eyes and spun, running away. She grinned proudly. She had defended her territory against incursion!

Meanwhile another horsemen youth had snuck up on Mitzi, trying to roust her and take her spot. That meant it must have been a good spot, right? Or else this scareling was just friends with the scareling Mitzi had settled in next to. Still, the ghoul wasn't about to let some punk kid roust her. (The only punk she was going to be taking s**t from was Roch, thankyouverymuch.) So she lashed out. One strike was all it took to send the youth running, thankfully.

Reiko attempted to shore up her defenses, but she failed. She simply couldn't find enough to build a decent defense, and everything she tried quickly came crumbling down. She heard giggles from around her, which she suspected were Famine clan youths, enjoying their visitor's humiliation.

As much as that other youth had apparently thought Mitzi had a good spot, the Reaper just couldn't seem to find anything useful for building defenses. She eventually gave up in frustration, and when the horseman overseeing the lesson came over, he rousted the ghoul to make room for others doing better.
With a huff she headed to the edge of the training yard, looking around for the onryo. She hoped she at least hadn't done any worse than the ghost ghoul, she didn't need any more hits to her pride right now.

Reiko floated out of her hiding spot looking thoroughly depressed. Well, she had actually gotten decently far! However, her mood sank a bit more when she saw Mitzi had been ejected as well. They had both failed? How depressing. "Ready to leave, Mitzi?"

The Reaper was relieved to see that Reiko was also heading for the exit. "Yeah, let's find something else to do," she suggested, starting down the path back to the rest of the settlement.

The female horseman that met you out here looks as old and gnarled as the trees, what little of her can be seen under layers of sand-colored robes. “It is a special season now! We gather special fruit. Very prized. Today you must pick it.” She held out a large, poisonous “BUT! Many hidden dangers above us. Flying is no good. Trees here do not want to be picked from so easily.” “This fruit, she grows fast, ripens with FEAR. Pick her too soon, she is poisonous, stomach will ache. No good.” The old woman pantomimed as she spoke. “Wait too long, she is too heavy, falls to the ground, dissipates. No fruit.” There is a brief pause before the horseman herds you to the base of a tree. “Waiting for what, then? Up the tree! Reiko was definitely still a bit pink from what had happened at the Oasis. Ohhh, what had she been thinking? She had dried herself off and gone to one of the training fields, not entirely sure if Mitzi was still following. She nodded at the instructions, and scampered for a tree, but as she began to climb, she started sneezing horribly.
Huh, ghosts can have allergies. Who knew?

Mitzi was so furious at the ghost ghoul. Without her, she wouldn't have been stuck in the crop room for an hour, would have escaped that first time, and she wouldn't have had to dive back in to rescue the idiot onryo. Saving the other ghoul had let the plants dose her repeatedly, and resulted in her getting a lungful of that weird Famine concoction. And if not for all that, she would not have woken up from that happy fog to find herself skinny-dipping in the Famine water reservoir.
There was no doubt in her mind where the blame lay for all of that. And so to burn off some of the anger before she blew up, she decided to hit one of the training fields. The fruit harvesting one had done well-enough before to keep her occupied, so she found herself there again.
As she started climbing the tree, though, she was still too caught up in what had happened to pay attention to the branches. So she stepped on a rotten one, which gave out under her. She had to scramble to regain her footing before she fell back to the ground.

Reiko was angry and humiliated, never a good combination. What had possessed her to go along with Mitzi's insane idea (for obviously it had to have been Mitzi's idea to...to...skinny dip oh Jack)? Why had Mitzi even suggested it? She was beginning to wonder if the Reaper hadn't done it on purpose just to humiliate her-after all, Mitzi herself obviously had no shame, otherwise why would she dress like she did?
Reiko was working herself up so much that she almost missed the rope ladder; when she did spot it, she grinned. Oh, yes, this would be very helpful. She took the shortcut up the tree a bit further.

As she climbed, the ghoul's anger slowly reduced to a simmer. The climb was doing what she'd hoped, getting the whole event enough behind her that she was no longer wanting to track down the onryo and tear her apart. She finally was getting into a sort of rhythm, when a large bird swooped down on her. She wasn't able to scare it off, and instead it grabbed her! By the time she managed to get free, it had carried her almost halfway up the tree, and she was back on schedule for getting the fruit.
