Eva led Gale into the tent, keeping a firm but gentle grip on him as she made her way over towards one of the empty cots. "Let me just get you to a cot and see if I can flag someone down to help." The Life and Moon hunters milled throughout the tent busily, tending to the various injuries of those who were lying on the cots. It looked like there was a bit of a line, so to speak, in front of them.

"I'll wait with you until you get checked out," The girl added after a moment of thought, lips quirking upwards in a small smile, "Until then, is there anything I can ask for for you? Some water, or something?"

Now that her initial panic had worn off, Eva felt that familiar sense of relief flood her. With it, however, also came fatigue--she may have forgotten that she was lacking in sleep, but her body certainly hadn't. Still, as tempting as those cots looked, she had things to do first--things that revolved around assuring that Gale, Reine, and Otto were all safe and sound. After that, maybe she would drop by the rest tent to relax for a bit.

Whether she would able to have a restful sleep free of nightmares was another matter altogether.

The Infirmary tent smelled of antiseptic, blood, and cold. Stepping into it made Gale immediately wrinkle his nose at the sharp, familiar scent, and he resisted the very strong urge to gag, closing his eyes and pressing his lips together firmly.

"You don't...have to stay with me," Gale mumbled, half turning away so that she would not see his red face, but the truth was that he did not want her to leave. Not because of how he felt about her, but because of what they had all just been through. Holding onto Eva like this was a constant reminder that she was still here, that she was still alive, that she had not died.

Not like the others.

If he closed his eyes, he could still see it - see her, the body falling forward, the sickly sound of the insects still ringing in his ears. He could see him, his fingers gripping the edge of the helicopter for a brief second before letting go, knowing what he was doing, knowing he would not be coming back.

I don't want to remember. Remembering hurt.

Gale pulled himself back to the present moment, focusing on the moment at hand and nothing else. His face hurt, and he realized, when he lifted a hand and then drew it back, his glove stained red, that his left cheek was bleeding and scratched. He had a feeling that some of the sand had gotten into the scrape, making it feel dirty and painful.

"Just...don't go anywhere," he said to Eva, contradicting his earlier statement completely. "Not yet."

Let me be selfish for a few more minutes.

Wilson nodded to Molly. “Good to hear, and you stay warm too, okay?” he called after her as she headed back to the portal area.

“Now that he’s calmed down?” He frowned, worriedly eyeing the unconscious moon trainee. [More like the poor boil got knocked out. Oh shut it, Gramps. “So Dakota was angry? What was Dakota angry…about…” His voice trailed off as came to a slow answer by himself. “Strike that last question, actually.” Wilson kneeled down, taking another roll himself so he could try to patch up Dakota before he woke up again. “I’m glad you’re not too hurt. Really glad.”

“Physically? Took quite a bit, but I’m feeling better now. Bandages really help.” Wilson laughed weakly as he patted at the bandages on his cheeks and arms. “Mentally? Um. Probably not so much, but I’ll manage.”

Feng wandered into the red tent, still wrapped in the blanket he'd been given. He'd seen a few hunters who seemed too tough to bother with the blankets, but it was freaking cold, and he liked the blanket. So the blanket stayed. Though he did get a few sneers an other unpleasant looks, probably because he looked like a little kid the way he was wrapped up.

He sat in a cot neatly and folded his legs under him, waiting to be seen. He stared at his knees for a while, but when that stopped proving interesting he glanced around him. Only to blush as he spotted the moon hunter in the cot next to him and had a flashback to that first day. She was the woman with the long, thick braid that he had touched. Well, he'd only touched her hair. It's not like he'd done something forbidden.

Unless touching hair was forbidden?

Oh god.

He turned his eyes back down to his lap and tried not to stick out. Maybe if she didn't notice him, they'd never have a weird "Hey aren't you?" interaction.

The lab tech cleared their throat and Clarice remembered that Harrison would benefit from being able to breathe. Letting go, she gave Marcus a small wave, and then turned back with a smile that was slightly broken but trying despite it all. "Yeah...I...I've got to go. And...do the science now. But um...if you need me, I'll be here. Just call me, kay?" She really...really didn't want to leave him. Harrison wasn't a child, or even particularly fragile...but from the moment he'd woken up, she'd felt responsible for him. A feeling that had quickly turned to genuine affection and a fierce desire to, if not protect him, at least do what she could to ensure his happiness and survival. Her eyes slipped to Jordan, and her expression relaxed a bit. She didn't want to leave, but at least Harrison would be in good hands.

She hadn't forgotten Jordan's rescue during the kitchen incident JulieohgodJulie or missed the way he'd waited at the portal just earlier. The way Robert looked toward him, as well as a large number of other trainees. It was hard, to care for other hunters, to let them get close and try to take care of them. They died so easily, so suddenly despite your best efforts. It left you vulnerable to so much pain and loss after loss after loss, only ending when either you were dead or your heart was. And when she saw someone so willing to open themselves up to so much potential heartache for so many people...

Admiration mingled with pity, and she found herself glancing away.

With a nod to the both of them, Clarice turned and left.

((OOC: ENTERING))

At some point, Justin remembered perhaps someone yelling at him, perhaps someone half-dragging him until they were in the infirmary tent, though there was no way of the trainee knowing where he was just quite yet. The cot was relatively warm, it was soothing, quiet. Peaceful. Easy to wander and drift off despite injuries, despite how realistic those insects had been, despite that, his mind continued to lie to itself and deny everything. It was slowly already glazing over, making excuses, bargaining. Everything was okay, it was just fake, it was an illusion, he was simply shocked by how real it was.

And at some point a little later, the Mist trainee finally snapped back online, blinking several times rapidly, breathing a little quicker, staring back and forth with a sort of absent focus. First things first: get up. He shuffled awkwardly, a little embarrassed now that he had let his group mates down on the final battle, keeping his eyes focused on the ground as his right foot shook nervously.

"Sorry, I just-" He took in a deep breath, focusing a lot more than he ever did in most of his life (unless this involved some of the harder Heroic bosses of course). He wanted it to say it, to really say it. Ever have this weird feeling, sort of like all this is really not a game, or that this game is more real than your real life? But, God that sounded so stupid, even for him, and finally he looked up and gave the Reine a sort of broken smile. "-Sorry I let you guys down during that raid boss."

Noone else would understand how close the incident had hit to home anyway: it was over, whatever it was. The parallel between this character and his actual sister simply reminded himself of how much he missed her. Maybe one day she would finally come home, and he could log into this game together with her and show her that exact boss fight and laugh at exactly how paranoid he was.

Bloodied glove or not, Eva reached out to take both of his hands in hers, giving them a gentle squeeze, "I'll stay here as long as you'd like me to," She answered simply, lips curved in a soft smile, "But only if you promise to get some rest after they've checked you out. You look..."

Troubled, but who could blame him after what had just happened? Eva had come into this mission knowing full well that something could go horribly wrong--that someone could die--and it was clear that most of the trainees had had the same thoughts. They had all been preparing themselves to deal with the possibility of someone's death.

No one had been prepared for Julie's death.

Eva felt remorse at having been unable to help Julie, but more than that, she felt fear. She hadn't known the Moon assistant very well, but it was just the fact that she had been a familiar, friendly face--that she had been one of them--that had made attacking her so hard.

So what if it had been someone that she knew well--someone she cared about? What would she do if one of her friends...?

Eva shook her head quickly to rid herself of the thought, her face having grown a little pale. She closed her eyes for a moment, taking a few deep breaths. That wasn't going to happen. No, she would do everything in her power to make sure that that didn't happen.

"...Let's have a spar." The request was sudden, and there was a short pause before she went on to clarify, "After all this...when we get back to Deus Ex, what do you say we have another spar sometime?" When they got back to Deus Ex. When they made it out of this alive.

He didn't respond to anything, not the cocoa, or the poking (that might not have been such a good idea anyway), and the only thing that told her he was still alive was the slow but steady breathing, the faint beating of his heart, as she and Otto carried Justin to the infirmary.

Reine watched him, leaning over his bed and propping her head up with her arms. Now and then he stirred, and she reached out to pet him. Maybe this time he'd wake up, maybe--

-- His eyes snapped open, all of a sudden, and in an instant she was up on her feet, hovering over him worriedly. Justin was okay, he was fine, he was.. not quite back to normal, not yet, but maybe a cuddle and a mug of hot chocolate later everything would be fine again. She reached to hug him, blinking away tears and murmuring a soft 'it's okay'.

She felt for a moment that she didn't ever want to let go, but now he was fine, there were things to do, things like duties and preparations and whatnot. Pulling away, Reine reached for Justin's hand, determined not to let him out of her sight again, then looked up at him, a quivery smile on her face.

"Readycheck?"

Gale's cheeks were flushed red, but he could feel the reassurance coursing through him, the warmth and care. His fingers hesitantly curled around Eva's, squeezing them back before he let go and turned away, not wanting to fall further into something he was trying to get out of.

But he appreciated - and needed - her kindness concern more than she knew.

Tiredly he sat down on the nearest bed (or cot, rather - bed was a wildly generous term, since they were more like two metal poles with a piece of flat, canvas cloth strung between them), grateful for the chance he had to sit down. Some of the ache in his legs lightened a little, but he still felt pathetically weak and uneasy.

You knew what you were getting into from the start.

"I look just dandy, I know," murmured Gale, a bit dryly, and shook his head, pushing the sweat dampened, blood stained, sand encrusted strands away from his face. He felt utterly disgusting, but at least here he could get a bit of rest and maybe wash up a bit.

"...Let's have a spar!"

Gale's eyes jerked back towards Eva, widening in surprise. He pressed his lips together without saying anything, his expression softening.

"...yeah," he said quietly. "Yeah, let's have a spar."

His hand reached out again, found hers, and squeezed her fingers. Maybe she wouldn't notice how his were trembling.

Look at me. I'm a kid. I'm afraid.

For the first time since I became a hunter I'm scared.

Don't think about it.

The mantra was back.

"I think I'll rest now," he said softly. "I'm...sure I could use it."

Oh Ami's eyes caught him alright. The creeper who stuck his hands in her hair like some sort of sick, hair-fetish freak. Ami immediately looked around for Wilson, a protection of some sort.

Why was she doing that? She could easily protect herself. She didn't need Wilson, and she especially wasn't looking for him. She was fine on her own.

< So why're you looking for him? >

Shut up.

he seemed a little busy talking to some other girl, hovering over Dakota (seriously? Dakota of all people Wilson? Ami frowns on your friend choice). So he was apparently somewhat busy ... but Ami felt the need to be a little selfish. "Ah Wilson? I think ... this guy over here needs your help." She was very careful to emphasize the word your, because she definitely wasn't touching him. ********' creeper.

Clarice let go. She'd always been there for him, from the very start, and she was the smartest and strongest Hunter he knew. Whatever went wrong or whenever he needed help, he could always count on her. She could fix anything, it seemed like.

Julie had seemed invincible too. In the sewers she'd made it to the other side of the gate and out of danger without batting an eyelash. She was acrobatic, confident, and not afraid of gore. She could cook and make any kind of clothes. Danger seemed to roll off her like water off a duck's back. But it'd gone bad, somehow.

Harrison had known people would die today. Maybe everybody. Right now, he wasn't dead. Clarice had to go.

He nodded back. "Okay." He was going to stay in the infirmary a little while. Until he was steady on his feet again. He wasn't doing anybody any good walking around like a zombie...wrong metaphor.

"Thanks for-" he started, as Marcus excused himself. Checking up on him. Filling in some of the answers he couldn't. "...Thanks."

His phone buzzed. He typed a response. He felt like talking about anything but bugs.

Eight
feeling shitty. not hurt @ infirmary. u ok? food = good

Marcus and Clarice were gone. But Jordan was here. He'd been calm during the fight, been able to figure out...Harrison didn't want to think about bugs. But it seemed like Jordan was always able to keep a cool head. Harrison was grateful he'd come over.

"Don't guess you brought any gum?" he asked. "It's...hell, I'm glad you made it out of there okay. Wish I'd been in any shape to make sure you had."

[Entering]

Tori had taken her time in getting to the infirmary since she really wasn't that badly injured physically. She still walked half dazed when she entered the tent, stopping for a second to look to were Before was. Aklin kept nudging her to continue on since he wanted was was best for his Hunter and maybe being with her friends might help snap her more out of her shell, but he truly didn't know. Once she had spotted where to go, Tori headed towards them all not really sure what to say as she hadn't felt somewhat like this in a long time in a time she kept locked away never wanting to see again.

Once over to were Before was she gave them all a little wave to show that she was alive but didn't smile at all. Shivering slightly under her blanket since she wasn't wearing clothing that was appropriate for cold weather. Struggling for words as her brain just wanted books and Aklin was stomping and trying to kill that want. "It's good to see you are alright," Tori said quietly when she finally found her voice to speak. "Hi, I'm Tori," she added when she saw that Molly was there as well since she hadn't met Molly before and that she wasn't like herself right this second either.

Thankfully because Tori's trip had been slow going, Bix had moments to pull himself together a little more. Minute by minute it was easier to deal with and soon he'd be alright enough. He'd be able to save it for later, when he was home in his room and could let it out properly.

The albino hunter grunted but pushed himself to his feet. After Before's offer he wasn't going to change his mind. The lanky young man pulled Before to his chest and then yanked each girl in with his long arms. He couldn't reach all the way around them but it was enough for a snuggly, mopey 4-way hug.

Molly looked up as Tori approached, and offered a smile to the young woman. “It’s nice to meet you, Tori.” She murmured. “My name is Molly.” Poor thing looked so cold! The Mist hunter shrugged off the blanket she was given and ended up draping it around Tori’s shoulders. She didn’t really need it. If you looked at Molly, she always looked like she was dressed for artic bases, anyways.

She made a startled sound though as she was suddenly yanked, and then rather snugged in a nice…group hug? Ah yes. Molly only hesitated for a moment before wrapping her arms around everyone she could as well and squeezed.

Jordan checked his pocket, found that his packet of gum was still there, and held it out with a faint smile. "Yeah, you too," he answered. "I don't blame you for - having trouble. That was pretty awful." Awful didn't even begin to cover it, but he wasn't about to think about it any more than he had to. He winced away from the mental images that started to rise, shoving them away.

Ferros rumbled quietly. Think of other things, the dragon advised.
