Another spray of sand blasted her as a centipede thrashed - okay, too close, that was way too close. She jumped back, stumbling a bit as her footing shifted under her. Which one. Which one... which one did she need to attack?! The shield was beginning to feel warm again, presaging the burning-
Left!!
She went left, and managed to slice off the tip of another leg. She shut her eyes as the retaliatory spray bathed her, then heaved a sigh of relief as she felt the burning back away. Kouki had been right. "Thanks," she managed.
We will keep you alive, the serpent sword said, with surprising ferocity.

Turned out that fighting FEAR based creatures without a weapon that thrived on it was, remarkably...
Unfulfilled. Clerise managed to get a blow in, kicking the god-damned thing in a vulnerable joint, in between plates of carapace.
She fought without conviction.

Then, like the good little trainee she was, Sydney ran over to the other centipede and shot it in the neck. It seemed to have hit a vulnerable spot.

When he turned to attack the first one again, though, Tedan managed to somehow trip over sand and missed. He could feel the Base the second one had spat at him starting to errode his shield, then. "Ow, ow, ow," he muttered, grip tightening on Arda's handle. Dammit, he couldn't give up here.

It seemed that it wasn't just time to move, but be ready to attack immediately, her hands going to summon Nicodemus without a moment's hesitation once they hit the other side, trying to not look back at the bodies as they stepped through, but....
No.
There were things on the other side. Giant acid spewing monsters. That looked like Centipedes. She hated centipedes. Didn't fear them, but they were nasty disgusting looking things, and it looked like it was immediately time to be getting to work.
Yet she barely had moved in to swing when she tripped over something....
and nearly came face to face with a dead body. Eugh.....
So much for attacking, she needed to hope she didn't kiss of death something first.

Portal was up. Harrison pulled B0nez from his sash, the skull-handle's eyes glowing with anticipation. Straight out of the gate, there were bodies. And no cover. Everything was sand. The grains stirred in the wind, even the sand that was thick with blood and...and something else-
It wasn't the wind.
The ground split open at his feet, something black and huge and smooth breaking through the dune like a dolphin- too big- a killer whale - too big - and as the sand sank, he backpedaled. Backpedaled from a whirring and bubbling noise, and then there was a geyser... he was knocked back, and close enough that the soles of his shoes were almost touching it, something like a freight train snaked right out of the ground.
That ******** figured.
Trainees set right into it, weapons-first. And when they hit, it vomited all over them. And when it vomited...there was something wrong. They started to smoke. He could feel B0nez at rapt attention.
I know this one, B0nez said, excited, Hey, I know this one!
He explained it.
The ones that kept attacking the same monster just...kept smoking. But some people already had it, the smoking spray fizzling out with a green-yellow hiss. Harrison scrambled to his feet. Don't run. Don't be a coward.
Easy mode, B0nez said.
There was Rep, pounding away at the same centipede. He didn't know how much it would help, but Harrison moved in to cut off what he could of another resulting spray of acid.

This time, he managed to get a pretty good hit in, swinging Arda back over his shoulder and then down hard at one chitonous segment of the monster's body. "Would you just die already?!" With so many of them attacking these things, why weren't they going down...?

"Okay! Okay!" Ennéa yelled back at Baraz. She scrambled to her feet and swung. It was a glancing blow but at least it had managed to hit.
She couldn't revel in her small accomplishment for long though as the centipede swung about and spat at her. The spittle already on her fear shield sizzled angrily at the new addition and Ennéa tensed, waiting for the pain to start. But it didn't.
I thought so. Baraz said. They're a matched pair, they cancel each other out.
"Yeah thanks." Ennéa said distractedly, her attention was still on the centipede. "So go attack the other one??"

There were so many bodies.
Eva's jaw stiffened at the sight of the figures strewn over the ground, but (fortunately?) she had little to no time to pay them much mind. Before she could even blink, something burst out of the ground in front of their group, followed by another one behind them.
Eva's expression was grim as she summoned Chara, immediately slashing out at the centipede that was closest to her. Drawing back, she shot a quick glance over towards the other trainees.
Please, please don't let any of them fall. Not today, and not here.

Chaos. There was chaos everywhere. The other trainees rushed forward to attack the centipedes. He only vaguely registered the presence of a second one, he attempted to hit it, but it had already disappeared, defeated. Instead, Wilson numbly stood around, wide eyes slowly inching toward the bodies strewn across the ground. There were so many. He tried to reach up to cover his mouth, but he realized that he was covered in a mask and his hands shielded by metal cannons. Wilson closed his eyes and took a slow, deep breath. His heart was beating loudly in his ears, but he forced himself to calm down. It was no good for him to be running around in a dazed panic. He could hear the soft neigh of agreement from his partner.

a*****e? How ******** /dare/ he? How could he say that to him after what he'd just ******** seen. The b*****d had kissed him, he'd been ******** played like a fool and it hurt, it hurt more than any of this, hurt more than the injuries, the acid all of it.
He gave Harrison a blazingly cold look, looking more than a little unhinged as he swung Tracey HARD at him, going wide but the intent there.
"I don't need your ******** HELP." he roared, practically bristling with rage before narrowing his eyes and lowering his voice to a nasty hiss "Why don't you go help your ******** boyfriend?"
And he turned to direct his attention to the other worm. Not because he was asked, but because he needed to get away from there.

After the second beast spat its not fun goo all over her, Sherry was expecting the worse. Surely doubling up would only increase the effect.
Armagnac hissed.
What? They counteract each other? Sherry looked down at her poison covered arms. How? She didn't really have time to think about it now, but it was a curious thing.
Armagnac scoffed.
Sherry didn't argue. The wyrm knew a lot more about poisons and such than Sherry did. Too bad she missed.

Once she was up again, Cass moved quickly, forcing herself into one of the frontlines to get in a blow, taking her weapon and shoving it into one of the Centipedes, which...reacted poorly, to say the least. She pulled back, frowning as it turned and hissed, oozing something on her.
Something gunky.
Something that....
IT BURNS. Nicodemus hissed, expressing his pain about the matter. It hurt him, and she needed to figure out what to do next. If that one was acid, was the other one too??

Tedan grinned as he hit a third time. HaHA. "You ready to go?" he called out. And though Arda didn't reply "out loud", he definitely got the feeling that his weapon was ready. These things were dangerous enough that if he didn't hit every time, either the acid or base was going to keep eating away at him. And that was more than enough to spur his somewhat lazy partner into action.
This time, when he attacked ... things were going to get hot.
