I like looking at receipts I’ve held onto for a long time.” Molly laughed as she watched him take it and crumple it. “I think its fun to see when I bought things and reminding myself what I bought.”

Oh wait. Hold up.

Freshman homecoming picture in high school. Little Bix with braces. Oh. My. God.

Molly fell silent as she hovered over that picture and stared. After a moment, she squealed, tapping a finger on the picture. “YOU LOOK SO CUTE THERE!” Apparently Molly thought awkward was adorable, or maybe it was because this Bix was so different from the Bix now, that it was really endearing. “Heee…” She gently looked through the other pictures, looking over his friends, and then looked at his senior prom pic. Her eyes lingered on his date for a moment before she looked back at him in the picture. “…I think they could be pleasant if you have good company! Oh, um…not saying she was bad—because I don’t know—but uh…just imagine if we had a prom here! I don’t think you couldn’t genuinely smile…”

Molly rested her chin on her hand as she fingered through all the photos again. “I never went to any of the school dances…we didn’t have the money or time and…well…I had no one to go with anyways…eh…” She smiled regardless. “It’s alright though! My family ended up going to a lot of Irish gatherings in Cleveland, and we’d sing and dance and eat and drink ourselves silly anyways.”

"Oh she was just my friend. I didn't have any girlfriends in high school or anything." He didn't even have interest in the girls there. Most of them didn't share his interests or teased him with their jock boyfriends. "She was cool. She was afraid no boys would ask her. Since I didn't have a date we went together. I guess i never liked formal pictures cause the lights made me look weird." Indeed he did look washed out but it wasn't nearly as bad as he thought.

When Molly talked about not going to dances, Bix felt a little bad. He didn't know much about her life other than that she didn't have a lot of money and lost her sister. He still thought that every girl should get a chance to dress up nice and go out. Isn't that what girls like? The girls at his school made the hugest deal about that stuff. "At least you got to go to the Christmas Gala here. That was pretty nice. And just like a prom... spiked drinks and dancing and lots of girls in pretty dresses. Of course Julie made some of us wear costumes..." And he'd been Santa and made out with Julie. OH GOD DID SHE SEE THAT?!

"Oh that Irish stuff sounds cool. We weren't very.. uhh.. ethnic? I think my mom was some european mish mash.. I don't know what my real dad was. We didn't even have big family parties. Not many relatives." He chuckled.

Molly just stared at Bix as he explained his situation with the girl. He. Was. So. Nice. “…Oh my goodness, that was so sweet of you!” Molly praised, clearly in awe and impressed. Such a nice thing to do! She looked down at the pic again as he described how it made him appear washed out. “…Ah…I think I can see it! But I wouldn’t say weird…maybe you were just too radiant to really capture on film, Bix.” She grinned.

As he brought up the Christmas Gala, Molly snapped her fingers. “Oh yeah! That’s right!” She then got a blank look on her face as she tried to recall it.

Not much was standing out. Did she even go? She was there, right? She vaguely remembered Harrison in a snowman costume…fixing Otto’s hair…and then the buffet table. Oh man. That was one awesome buffet table. Molly put a hand to her cheek. “…I didn’t even dance.” She made a dismayed face. “…Oh well!” Did she see Julie kissing Santa Claus? Nope. Probably not. “Oh, it was cool.” Molly replied, shaking her head a bit to clear out her thoughts of the Christmas Gala. “I really enjoyed those cultural get togethers…” She paused. “I understand about the big family party thing…” She hummed a bit before looking down at the photos again. “Thank you so much for sharing those…I really, really enjoyed them.”

"Oh no problem." Bix smiled and gathered the photos together when she was done looking at them. He put them back in the wallet, put every card back where it went. He even paused, thought, and pulled the receipt back out. He straightened it, folded it and placed it back within the wallet. He set it aside as if it were some museum piece that needed to remain intact.

"Other than my books I brought, and clothes, this is all I have left from home." He had a picture of his family back on his desk but he didn't want to cart it out with him. "Glad it wasn't boring or anything."

Bix didn't even think to ask Molly if she had anything else. He was just happy to be hanging out with someone and talking about home. Molly was open about it and some of his other friends were reserved and sensitive about their past lives. "I miss it sometimes. Just them. Do you think the division heads ever even think of what they left behind?" They'd been here so long. Did it matter to them anymore?

Oh gosh, it wasn’t boring at all!” Molly assured with a wide grin. “I really enjoyed it! Thank you so much for sharing! I like hearing about other people’s stories…”

She paused at his question, and took a long moment to think about it. She even rolled onto her back again to stare up at the sky as she pondered. Yeah…she missed home sometimes. Just a little bit…but overall…to be honest…she was happier here at Deus, and that thought scared her, but did Division heads think about what they left behind…? Huh. Molly would want to ask, but she remembered what Miss Clarice said about asking questions…and that was that you don’t. “…Um…I’m not sure, honestly.” Molly replied, scratching her cheek. “I mean…I think…maybe? We all came here for a reason…and I don’t think you’d ever really forget that reason…I think…”

She gave a sheepish grin and shrug to the Sun Hunter.

Bix was also looking back at the sky again. He'd put his book and wallet back into the bag and fished in the pocket of his coat. He pulled out a bag of peanut M&Ms and offered her one. The albino hunter crunched away, thinking of how long some of them had been there. They weren't very old.

"Clarice told me she's been here five years. Supposedly Dr. H has been here since before that... thing in 1999." Bix still wasn't up to date on that event. Some of the other people were intrigued, digging and searching. He merely heard the rumors after the fact. "He can't be more than.. 40 maybe?"

In retrospect, Bix hadn't seen a hunter who looked older than 40. The Mrs. Claus lady had been the oldest person around and he found out that she didn't even belong here. It suddenly hit him slightly. He didn't have 80 years to look forward to. He had 20 years, at best, to his future. Somehow he was comfortable with it though. He wanted to do things before he died but he didn't want to get old and decrepit and wrinkly and gross.

"Thanks for talking." Bix turned to her, a genuine smile on his face. He wasn't blushing or being awkward. He was truly glad to have a friend. Even if this thing with Molly never turned into more than this. "And not talking. It's comfortable just hanging out. Thanks."

Molly blinked as she was offered some peanut M&Ms. Oh man…how long had it been since she had some of those? She was really grateful for the little things. She smiled as she took one. “Thank you!” She chirped, popping it into her mouth and just quietly sucked on it until the peanut was left.

She quietly listened, watching some of the clouds roll on by. Time. How long would she be here for? That was something Molly honestly didn’t care to think about or speculate. There was no desire to leave, she had nothing outside of this anyways, and she was, for the most part…for the most part content here. However long she lasted here, was however long she lasted, and that would be more than fine. She chewed on the peanut finally and swallowed, turning her head to look back at Bix once more, and smiled happily back. “Thank you for listening too.” She grinned. “…It’s hard to find people who actually listen. I’d love to do it again sometime! Talking, show and tell, not talking, cloud gazing…all of it!”
