The small brat rounded a corner, momentarily slipping from Violetta's view. She'd been chasing him for what felt like hours...which in reality had only been maybe fifteen minutes. Ducking through people (for once she was greatful to be a tad shorter then most her age) she slipped around the corner, pausing suddenly.
Well, there was the child... it looked like he had run someone down. Grinning triumphantly Violetta jogged forward, hefting the brat up by the back of his shirt and completely ignoring the boy her age laying sprawled on the ground.

"Give me my coin purse." she said flatly to the bratty little theif, bright eyes narrowed considerably... especially when the kid stuck his tongue out at her.
"Lemme go, lady! Lemme go!"
He started kicking and squirming, drawing unwanted attention to Violetta. At this point, though, she didn't even care.
She just wanted her coin purse.
"Sure I will, brat, as soon as you give what belongs to me back."

Swiveling him around as she held him up by the back of his shirt she frowned... where had he put the purse? It suddenly occured to her that he could have dropped it at any time... that he could have passed it off to another little thieving child. Her already pale face got even paler, eyes roaming around the area as she tried to pick out where he could have dropped it...
She quite literally dropped the chlid to the ground, not caring as he skittered off and vanished into the crowd.

"Oh... this is not good..."

Her voice was quiet, a hint of hysteria lining her gentle voice. Oh... not, not, not good. She was going to starve! No, better yet... wait, yes, she was going to starve!
Eyes watering she stepped forward, foot meeting something... soft? Pulling back she looked down, blinking in surprise at the man her age just lounging on the ground. What the hell was he doing down there?
...and what was that in his hand?

"Hey!" she suddenly exclaimed, bending down and pulling her purse free of his hands, "That is mine. Hands off."
She let out a obvious sigh of relief, happy that her money was back where it belonged... in her line of sight. Glancing back down at the man she sighed bitterly, deciding she may as well ask if he was alright...
Or something of the sorts.

"Did that kid mow you down?" she asked, eyebrow cocking above her left eye, "He stole my coin purse, see... and I'm not one to give up so easily, so I chased him. Technically it's my fault you got run over." shrugging absently she offered him a hand to help him stand, examining his facial features with a hint of curiousity in her eyes.

Maka accepted the hand. "Yeah... Took me out at the legs..." He explained as he stood up. Once up, he picked up the unconscious Xen. "I was carrying my past-out friend who drinks too much, and kid turned the corner and ran straight into me. Your welcome, by the way." He continued as he put Xen over his shoulder. "Tell me, for a women as nicely dressed as yourself, why are you so poor?" He asked. Maka could easily tell that there wasn't much money in the small sac for the few seconds he had it.

He was talking more then usual. Why? It was not like him. Usually, this was the part where ether he walked away, or somebody was left ether in pain or crying. Yeah, he was like that. He had to get Xen bound somewhere where he couldn't break free, and he was running out of time.

Brushing a red curl from her eyes Violetta scowled slightly... pah. Him saying you're welcome, just because he happened to run into a kid with her coin purse! Men were so difficult sometimes...
Eyes flickering curiously over the limp form of yet another male she cocked a eyebrow. Drunk, huh? He didn't look drunk... he looked hurt. Violetta was a healer, she knew the difference. Supisicoun lined her petite face as the red hues flickered back up to the other male... the one who wasn't passed out; the one who had been rude and not introduced himself.

Then again Violetta could have said her name, but she didn't want too... someone might overhear and tell one of the Cardinal Knights.

Far-fetched if you asked me, but Violetta was more then a bit paranoid. Snorting at his question she pulled at her cloak, wrapping it around herself to hide her clothing and her body rather well.
"That's rude, asking my social status before my name." she chided like a mother, hmphing quietly as she looked away from him.
There...
Just right there... was another one of the Cardinal Knights. WHY THE HELL WERE THEY ALL OVER THE PLACE?!

Flinching slightly she pulled her hood up over her red hair, turning her back a bit so that her face was hidden rather well in the folds of the dark cloak.
"To be blunt it isn't any of your business, anyways." she whispered to the male, eyes flickering over her shoulder a couple of times until the woman was long gone. Sighing in relief she let the hood drop, revealing her bright red hair once more.

Looking curiously at the passed out guy on his shoulder she frowned... he looked hurt...
"Are you sure he's drunk?" she asked slowly, reaching out to touch the passed out guys arm. She retracted, deciding she better not in case this guy carrying him lashed out at her.
Hey.
You never knew with people these days.
"He just looks... pained... I guess..." eyes flickering between the two males she sighed, finally giving in.

"Violetta." she stuck her hand out for him to shake, eyebrow raised high.

Maka was hesitant to take the hand. She seemed on to knowing that Xen was not passed out, but actually knocked out. That, and that if he told her his name and was asked about him... But, he also gave in an took the hand. "Maka. And he did get into a fight, so I kinda had to use force." He replied.

Maka too was watching the guards. If he was caught, he could easily get away from them. But this girl, she seemed to be watching them. Were they after her too? He suddenly felt the need to ask her, but held it back. He was getting too out of character, it was totally not like him.

~Xenon Zurander
User Image

"Verto." The previously limp hand of Xenon Zurander, hanging loosely behind Maka's back as the young man was slung over the older's shoulder, suddenly moved, shifting in a single move, to place itself on the small of his captors back, a small bluish white rune now glowing on it's exterior.

The possum was a little known, but simply fascinating creature. Despite it's measly intellect and rather limited evolutionary properties, it had developed a rather remarkable skill, that being playing dead. Now Possum's weren't very well known upon the world, and as Xenon had never really taken particular care to study the various specific fauna of the various nations, he had no idea that they existed. Yet even so, when he'd gained consciousness a just a bit earlier, jolted awake after being kicked roughly behind what seemed to be a food sack, he'd unknowingly taken a leaf out of the creature's book, and lay still, listening, assessing the situation, and waiting.

Waiting for what?

Sealing orbs were potent yes, but sealing away a sorcerer's mana was a daunting task, and as such, they had a rather limited space of effect. At most, the seal would hold for up to fifteen minutes, but much of the time it was even less then that. Particularly when the subject in particular was under strain. Strain, such as, and this was just a wild example, slight head trauma.

He waited, eyes closed even as he was picked back up, until at last, all at once, his bodies ability to harness and emit Mana returned. His body was fortified, his strength returning, as he once more felt himself at one with his magic.

This led to the current situation. The moment he'd felt his magic return, he knew that at this range, an experienced enhancer would most likely notice as well. Xen himself being no slouch, at such close range, and having the advantage of surprise, placed his hand upon his kidnappers back...but he wasn't a fool either. He'd seen this boy's speed first hand. Even if he could cast his spell in an instant at this close...this was nothing more then a stalemate, as the older boy could most likely draw and strike with his daggers just as quickly...

"It occurs to me." Xenon said in a, out of place, cheerful tone. "That you must not be from the Seirun Inquisition after all..." he said brightly, his free hand reaching up to push his glasses straight from where they'd barely been hanging on to his face. "First of all, you're a male," he said with slight humor.

"But secondly," his face set itself with a slightly more dangerous smile, even if this "maka" couldn't see it from their odd position. "The first thing they would have told you, even if you were mercenary they'd hired as an outsource, is that gagging a sorcerer's mouth should be your first priority after capture, so as to prevent them from properly casting. Even the hands and feet should come second to that." he still seemed rather unruffled seeing as the two clearly dangerous individuals were now both at an impasse, an inch from ending the other's life... "That said," he narrowed his eyes slightly, still smiling. "I really am clueless as to your actual motivation...what exactly did you hope to achieve from all this?" he turned his head around, even from his still awkward position of being slung over the thieves shoulder.

He seemed to be making this turn in order to facilitate addressing the mysterious young woman, to whom, Xenon acknowledged to himself at least, he owed a great debt. He wouldn't openly admit this though. Truth be told, after all, he had a bit of a personal pet peeve for being rescued by women, prefering to instate his own independence before having to rely on one (generally Eve) to protect him. Though he supposed, he reasoned internally, he would do himself no credit to try and deny it either, he always gave thanks for an assitance rendered. He supposed he would express his gratitude to her later. After all Maka would not likely have been as distracted had the girl not happened upon them.

"Oh, how rude of me." he said still his oddly merry way "I interrupted your conversation. Please forgive me. I assure you that this will only take a moment." he then added, in a manner that might have suggested they had merely bumped into one another at the market "Xenon Zurander by the way." well aware that the first thing his name was likely to inspire was that fact that only two hours ago he'd been a wanted criminal in Seirun for the crime of learning Sorcerery. He ardently found himself hoping this girl wasn't an avid follower of the goddess...he'd more then enough problems on his plate right now.

His hand was still glowing with the rune, his focus on his situation not waned, Xenon's smiling eyes turned back to staring the opposite direction of his skilled...well, hopefully not, adversary. "Now...Mister...Maka was it? I would hate to have to die today, and I suspect you feel the same. Added to this that I don't truly believe we've reason to enemies...how about you set me down, and we both back away slowly so we can talk this out like civilized gentlemen, hm?" he was still rather cheerful, but their was an undercurrent of seriousness in his tone.

Xenon didn't get to where he was by being a brash idiot...it was clear even from their encounter in the bar that this man was as dangerous as himself, even if their strengths lay down different roads. He didn't have anything to gain by making an unnecessary enemy of him...and the more he thought about his seemingly erratic behavior, it seemed less and less likely the older boy had any such reason either...

"Life's a drag, your a nuisance, just another day in life."

Aw damn was his only thought. He had just been caught mid act, and now had a bystander. Naturally, he would kill any bystanders, but when it came to women and children he let them live, a weakness in his eyes. Since Xen was dead weight now that he could probably stand, he set him down beside him. Now Xen was between a rock wall and a thief.

"I'm afraid that your currently being used as bait, though now it seems pretty pointless. I guess I could let you run away, back into your girlfriend's arms, but not without something of equal value in return." He explained. Maka knew that the girl was still standing there, and still spoke. Who knows, maybe she might have a lead as well.

"I require information on somebody... Of high value and personal interest. Comply, and I'll let you run free. Stay quiet, however, and your companions will have to pay the price for you. As you said, we both don't want bloodshed, and I personally don't feel like wasting any more energy." He continued as he reached into his sac and retrieved the two cups and the bottle of alcohol. When a trustworthy mercenary or thief who has made a name for themselves made a fair trade or contract, they were to pour the contractor a drink. Just a small ritual that usually was said to bring luck or whatever might be needed in the future.

In the corner of his eye, Maka spotted a group of guards chattering anf motioning to their position. "But this might not be the best place to do so. Follow me, you too girl." He said as he put the cups and bottle back into his sac and turned to walk down the alley way.

(OCC: Rude but trustworthy aint he?)

"There are those who seek to change their lives..."

Ainia smiled to herself, walking out of the modest little inn that she had just acquired a room in. After getting lost multiple times she had stopped to ask for directions, and the woman behind the counter had offered her a cheap place to stay for the night. She slipped her room key into her boot and took a step forward into the alley, only to trip over something. Grumbling at her new position on the ground, multiple thoughts of destruction and death ran through her mind.

"I swear on all that is violent and bloody, if one more thing gets in my way today..." Her voice trailed off as she heard a small whimper from the doorway to the inn, and she slowly stood back up. A frustrated groan tore from her lips when she turned around to see where the sound had come from. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me."

"Hey! You're the Angel lady!" The small boy grinned, wiping away his tears and crawling out from the doorway he was hiding in. "You can keep me safe!!"

Ainia paled as she stared at the boy, realizing with his last statement that she had just taken the role of temporary guardian in his mind. With a sigh, she held her hand out to the child, resigning herself to her fate. She regretted the decision at once when the child took her hand with his own, which was covered in snot and tears.

"Sure, kid. Exactly what am I keeping you safe from, though?" She eyed the child as he wiped his nose on the back of his arm, her face contorting with displeasure. Pulling her hand out of his reach, she cleaned it off on her traveling cloak, making a mental note not to touch him again. "Hopefully not the guards..."

"Oh, no! Just the mean lady! She chased me down and screamed at me a whole lot!" The boys eyes grew wide as he spoke, and he looked around as if searching for the lady he was speaking of. "She got real mad when I took her coins... She's over there!!"

The child darted behind her legs, and Ainia had to contain her laughter as she turned to look for the woman who had scared this poor boy. A short female figure stood a little ways off with two male figures, and Ainia figured that she must be who the child was referring to. Seeing these three, she suddenly noticed the utter lack of traffic in this area. Other than a few guards and the occasional bystander rushing by the area was completely empty.

"Hey, kid, why is this place so empty?" She glanced down at the child, who was still staring at the woman with wide eyes, and realized that her question had gone completely unheard. Sighing, she squatted down and pulled the child onto her back, throwing the small group one last glance before walking off. Something was up with those three, but it was none of her business, and this area was giving her the creeps. Plus, they seemed to be leaving, so she figured they obviously didn't care much about the child at the moment "Well, you're no help... Eh, come on, brat. If you're stealing women's purses then I can bet you're probably hungry. Let's go get some food. By the way, what's your name?"

"Mama used to call me Blaze, 'cause she said I'm a little firecracker, always causing trouble." The child mumbled, snuggling into her back and falling asleep in moments. Ainia frowned, noting the boys use of past tense when speaking of his mother. She would ask him about it later, but for now she would just let him sleep - until they got somewhere that had some good food to eat, that is. Her stomach growled at the thought of food, and she walked a little faster. It had been a few days since her last meal, and the fact that she didn't have any money wasn't about to stop her from getting something to eat for herself and Blaze.

"...And those who seek to change the lives of others."

[[Sorry for disappearing for a few days, Grey. (Not that my lack of posts really got in the way this time.) Hopefully it won't happen again. Also, forgive me for typos, and this OOC chatter. You may smack me over the head later for it. ^^; ]]

Akakios An Gaurdious Burnstein
User Image

Akakios stepped back as Alouette pulled away from him, his hand pulling away as they lay at his sides in a small defensive manner. Looking over to Bellius, Akakios's eyes meeting his crimson eyes. Akakios's eyes falling back to his sides, taking a step to the man and smiling. His head tilted slightly as a name left his mouth. "Bellius, my, my it has been awhile hasn't it?"

He stepped back, the crowd that had gathered scooting farther, frightened at all these strange characters that now stood between their loud yet peaceful town. Akakios gave a slow nod, his eyes glancing back up to Bellius's eyes. "Yes it is true, misfortune has fallen upon me."

Akakios glanced to Alouette, watching as she scolded Bellius, watching as Alouette began to scream at Eve. His teeth gritted together, taking a step forward, wishing to make some movement.

He shook his head as he watched this scene, he couldn't just stand here as he had with Xen. Akakios's eyes turned back to Bellius as he began to taunt him, staring into his crimson eyes. Putting a hand on Alouette's shoulder, waiting a small pause, his eyes glancing to hers and then back to the crowd, his face obscured from their small group.

His shoulders rose and dropped in a large and heavy sigh, taking a step away as his hand slid off of Aloutte's shoulder. Looking to her as he steadied himself, his hand wrapping around his stomach as he took a lengthy, formal bow. His eyes reaching back to hers as he stood, feeling something brush his hand as he began to pull it away. A hilt. Of course! His sword. With one fluid motion he brought his sword to stand by his side, his posture seemed to cause distance, yet no extra steps were added. His legs in a strange hunched manner that spread apart, with his voice and his stance in a steadiness of one who had known this position from the moment his hand brushed upon the hilt of his sword.

He shook his head as a soft and kind voice floated throughout the crowd. "Dear dear Aloutte, there is no time to think of the sorrows of the past, and yet I have no time to tell us all the joys of today. For our dear friend, Xenon Zurander, has befallen a great misfortune that I shall not allow to proceed. Without one more notice I would be happy to sheath this very sword and go along our way, but dear Aloutte, if I must bring this blade to draw the blood of your fair Seirun skin."

His eyes grew dark, the eyelids dropping to only reveal the black that hid between them, his teeth grinding together in horrible noise, the words filled with venom as he spat. "So be it."

(((Sorry to keep you waiting, was sick and busy and bla bla bla. Glad to be back! biggrin )))

Eve Prier~

Eve's eyes widened as Akakios came to her defense, her own hand already grasping tight her mace and shield when the strange...oddly familiar, blonde haired young sorcerer had conjured flame in his hand. She didn't want to get him involved in her battles...but she knew well her sister's capability. If she was actually forced to...fight her sister, here, she might not have the luxury of turning away assistance. "Sir Akakios..." Eve remarked, a hint of gratitude in her voice as she seemed to hoping this situation might diffuse before combat was initiated.

Alouette looked slightly surprised that the noble man seemed to actually be threatening her, taking the challenge about as seriously as any knight being threatened by a dainty maiden would...until she looked into his eyes. There was a subtle strength in those eyes, a will, a power. The sort've will that lay in the eyes of every man with whom, she could ever truly call herself in any sort of attachment. It was in the eyes of Xenon so many years ago, in the oft hidden eyes of her partner Bellius, and once long ago it had been in the eyes of her late father.

This strength gave her pause, the hand reaching for her weapon falling to her side once more, though her innocent bewilderment at his reaction quickly turned into evasive submission. "Hn..." her brow heavily furrowed. " As always...she gathers the innocent around her to protect her..." she looked away bitterly. "For the sake of Xenon, I will stay my mission for now," she noted, though she seemed stern only a moment after. "However once he is safe, if you've any sort've pride," she returned a leveled gaze at her sister. "Then you will agree to fight me without others to shield you."

Eve looked saddened by this, but gave a slight nod. "I...accept."

Alouette gave a slightly discontented nod, turning to Bellius. "Stay your hand Bellius...Sir...Akakios..." she noted his name, looking back at him with a neutral gaze "is not our enemy." she then seemed to note something then. "Wait...you know this man, Bellius?"

"Oooo?" The sorcerous youth said still with his wide brimming smile. "This guy? Nope, I've never seen him before in my life. Most definitely not."

Alouette got a somewhat skeptical look on her face. "But...he knew your name."

Bellius gave a suddenly careless shrug, stepping back and turning away from Akakios and the others as he began to juggle the small ball of fire between his hands. "Well just because he knows me doesn't mean that I'd know him. Or maybe he just knows a different Bellius, hm?"

Alouette took on a more irked expression "As if there's two of you." she stated with flat sort over skepticism..

Bellius seemed to find something...very funny, about this. "Oh who's to say." he said snuffing out the flame seemingly in one hand. He then turned back to them, a single parting in his hair at just the right angle to grant the prince and only the prince a glimpse on his eyes, he offered a quick wink. No, Bellius had no knowledge of the man who was currently fleeing his homeland. Certainly not. At least, so long as the man had reason to hide such knowledge about himself. Until such time, why, Bellius had never been to Burnstein. And he most CERTAINLY hadn't been a part of a lucrative venture involving a certain young prince.

"I would most certainly remember a man who shines like the sun. Chi chi chi." he turned back to an oddly careless stance. "So no...I've never met Sunny here. No indeed. Chi chi chi chi..."

Eve raised an uncomfortable eyebrow at this sorcerer, wondering if he was slightly...unhinged. "Well...if that's done, we need to focus on finding Xen...there's no guarantee that that stranger will keep him safe."

"Oh you needn't worry about that little Eve. It's not Xenny's fate to die today." Bellius gave a slight chuckle before he suddenly thrust out his hand in the direction of the bar. "Oh Graveryl of Four, come to the hand of one who is worthy." The motion took Eve by surprise as suddenly, from the hole in the wall, a staff...a very familiar staff, come to that, soared from where it had been dropped, and into the awaiting hand of the cheshire grinning magician.

"Hey...that's..."

Bellius gave another bizarre chuckle. "Chi chi chi... And we should probably hurry and get this to him...it doesn't like me very much. Never did, really, oddly enough..." again, he seemed to find something profoundly amusing.

Alouette raised a brow. "That...belongs to Xenon...?"

Bellius gave it a twirl. "I...suppose, you could say that." though still he looked as though he knew something positively hilarious that over her head. "But enough chitter chatter, let's go find Xenny! I just KNOW he'll be..." his smile grew slightly more...disturbing. "So very heart warmed to see me." he gave his chi of a chuckle. Sunny could keep his secrets secrets, Bellius understood the need, having a few secrets of his own. For now he would let his dear friend the good prince do as he wished, pretending he had no solid connections to a magic wielding mercenary for hire such as him. After all...it was the princes autonomy that made him so very...entertaining. Imagine the very idea of saving an entire country. Oh the innocent naivete of it all...

Eve seemed slightly wary of the blonde haired wizard, but let it be for now, looking to Akakios. "But...if we don't just chase after them...how can track them? Xen's usually the one who figures this stuff out... I mean...we can't just wait until the time comes...right? He'd be in danger all that time!"

Alouette raised an eyebrow slightly. Hn...that she had the nerve to show concern for Xen when it was SHE that had gotten him into this...it ...annoyed her for some reason. Her sister didn't truly care for anyone besides herself...

Akakios An Gaurdious Burnstein
User Image

Akakios's lip curled into the smallest of sneers as Aloutte reached for her weapon. And without a moment's notice she pulled her hand away, seeming to draw into the group as now his hand swung his sword downward. The blade digging into the dirt and cobbled stone as he watched them reach a soldier's agreement.

His head ducked as Aloutte adressed him, the blade of his sword scratching upon the fabrics as it fell into his sheath. Looking up to her as she addressed Bellius, his brows knitting slightly together as he turned to Bellius.

And after moments of their arguing, the jumpy character Bellius had formed into. His eyebrows falling apart as he took a step near Eve, an open hand falling upon her shoulder as he smiled to himself. This was of no matter-

Akakios's thoughts were interrupted as Bellius highly amused himself, a small tilt of head that would resemble the beginning of a nod, listening to his words, his face showing that of surprise when the staff appeared in his hands, another soft smile soon forming upon his face.

Turning to Aloutte as she addressed a problem, simplest of problems really, but it had needed to be addressed. She wasn't there after all.

With that thought his lip curled again to reveal a smirk, enjoying the slight confidence of his own well kept tease, at least Eve was here when she wasn't. His hand on Eve's shoulder giving a squeeze and his eyes glancing to hers with no turn of his head, and then looking back to these two characters. "I have no wisdom of tracking, yet noble Bellius here appears to be of worth with summoning. We have been granted with the ample information that he shall be delivered tomorrow at the large fountain. With a group such as this, surely we could...."

He took a step to the side, a strange sort of shattering stride, his hand slipping off of Eve's shoulder while his head bobbed in a slight loose manner, the word un-cordially slipping out of his mouth. "invite."

He took the stride back near Eve once more, his feet seeming to find firm plantation in the ground once more as only a sweet smile remained on his face. His eyes glancing over the group. "him to the fountain a day earlier?"

Violetta's eyes flashed over this... Maka. He looked like a liar. Maybe a theif. She could almost see the stickiness on his fingers... hand involuntarily tightening around her coin purse she sighed, shrugging absently.
"He does not smell like mead, nor any other alcohol, so I don't see how he can be passed out from drinking. And only someone with a very hard punch could knock out a full grown man in one swing."
Her voice leaked the annoyance she had that this boy was lying to her... did he think she was stupid?
Obviously.

Her bright eyes flickered to the man on Maka's shoulder as he suddenly started speaking, a rather large smirk spreading across her face.
"Heh. I was right." she muttered a tad smugly, crossing her arms over her stomach and raising a eyebrow. Would this Maka lie his way out of this one as well? She'd love to see him try.
Seirun Inquisition.
Why would he even try to say that? For one, he was a male... Seirun was run by women. It was a common known fact!

Listening to the man talk she could only smile as he went on and on, otherwise telling Maka off in a rather dignified manner. She decided that she liked this strange, skinny little man... he was quite amusing.
"Wasn't much of a conversation," she said quietly in reply, nodding stiffly, "Violetta. Pleasure to meet you, Xenon."
She offered no last name, which was odd... oh well, maybe she just didn't want to tell them. A secret, if you will...

Watching with a bored stare as Maka set the boy on the ground, she raised a eyebrow in a passive sort of way, examining Xenon.
Hmm.
A sorcerer, eh?
She was one of those... well, no, not really. She was quite good at healing people... not much else, really. She'd never cared for that other hub-bub.

"Girl?" she scoffed at Maka, hands balling into fists, "You are... you are just so rude! I told you my name not five minutes ago and you've already taken it upon yourself to call me girl. I swear, I have never met a man so-"
She cut herself off when she realized he was walking down a alley, her eyes flickering to Xenon before flashing back to Maka's back.

Why does he want me to come? I have nothing to do with this quarrell... I could really care less, actually...

Sighing quietly she glanced around again, pulling her hood up over her bright red locks and slipping down the alley as well.
She was curious...
But as her mother (or stepmother in this case) always told her...
Curiosity killed the cat.

Eve Prier~

"Oh," Bellius mused in the middle of their conversation, "I am rather resourceful, it's true, but a tracking spell in the city this populated would take time. I think it will be much faster to simply... follow the leader." he balanced the staff on the back of his hand now, rather impressively keeping it their without waver. "After all, it should be able to lead us straight to it's favorite little keeper."

Alouette, seeming to even go so far as to stop glaring at her sister for a moment, looked slightly intrigued by her companions words. Bellius was...odd, in very many ways, but he tended to be all business when business needed doing, and from his reaction upon merely mentioning Xenon's name, he DID seemed invested in this. So then... "What sort of staff can help find it's master...?"

Bellius feigned to be perplexed by her question. "Huuuuh?" he said as though she had completely changed the subject. "A staff that can do that? Hm...that's an odd thing to ask. No, I've never heard of a staff that can do that."

Alouette looked slightly exasperated at his rather coy manner. "But...you just said..."

Bellius chuckled. "People are always so confused by my answers...but it's merely because they ask the wrong questions. Chi chi chi..." he flipped the staff slightly, looking to Eve. "Hero Girly, I guess it's up to you. Do you want to trust a totally suspicious guy like me...? Huh?" his smile was still as wide as could be, and Eve had to be a little surprised at that anyone would actually admit themselves as suspcious...it was more something Xen might do...in fact...

In fact Eve realized now why this very strange young man seemed so familiar. Though he was far more odd, and his smile was just plain...unnatural, there was a sort've echo of Eve's friend within his mannerism and even the way the spoke. As though he was speaking in a very warped version of Xenon's own voice. In fact...even the what she could see of the boy's face, the rest hidden by his hair, seemed...oddly similar.

"Who are you...?" eve asked, seemingly out of the blue, her face now almost bewildered.

The strange mercenary merely gave a broader leer. "Chi chi chi...well what do you know...you've got more brains in your head then Aly here."

"Hey!" Alouette rebutted, looking far into an ill temper once more.

Bellius merely chuckled. "Well whatever...." his voice seemed...slightly less careless now, a sense that all his fun and games had something a bit more behind them. Eve hadn't noticed it before...but even from this subtle lapse in his carefree tone, a hint of...something, replacing it, her impression of the young man changed...though not necessarily for the better... "The point is, do you trust me...or not...?"

Eve looked a little more appraising for a moment, before shaking her head. "No..." she said certainly.

"HAHAHAHAHA!" His "chi" like laugh was forgotten for a moment as the mercenary burt out laughing at this. "Ahaha...oh I like you, Hero Girly. I can see why Xenny's hanging around with you. You're just a stitch." he held out the staff at this, as though offering it to her. "I'll make you a deal then...if you can take this staff from my hand, then we can do things your way...if you can't..." he tilted his head slightly. "Well, you'll give me a chance to find Xenny with it...fair?"

Eve looked a little weirded out by this offer, surely thinking there to be a catch, before she fell wary, watching him closely for any sign of movement. She was around Xen more then long anough to know how sorcerer's fought...rather then looking at his body, she watched his mouth for any sign of a chant...she drew close, holding out her hand to take the staff...

Only for her hand to stop upon touching it.

Something... like a voice at the back of her mind, would not let her grip the staff. It was as though a force beyond her understanding was holding her back. She looked surprised, staring at Bellius in shock. Had...had he cast a spell somehow before hand...? Had she not caught it...? But...

There was a rather bemused glint in Bellius smile, and she KNEW that he had known that this would be the outcome...but...but what had he done...?

Or...had he done anything that all?

"No?" Bellius said withdrawing the staff, Alouette looking on slightly confused. "Then I guess it's tally ho..." he turned in one direction, a slight rattle in the staff apparently signaling...something. "Follow me then, Sunny, Hero Girly. I'll take you to our most dearest mutual buddy and pal. Chi chi chi..." he began walking off in the direction the staff indicated, apparently back to not having a single care in the world...

Alouette followed immediately, without hesitation, while Eve seemed...a little shocked. That feeling...it had seemed as though she'd felt it before...

Xenon backed away still cautiously observing his former assailant, but as a moderate distance was put between them, the light in Xenon's hand faded, the rune disappearing...almost. A faint imprint of it still seemed to linger in his hand, as though it was ready to be used if need be. Xenon was civil, yes, but he wasn't stupid.

"Back into my...?" Xenon seemed tickled about something at the mention of Eve being his romantic other half. "Well I suppose you could." he said, apparently finding the accusation amusing. "However let's be honest here..." he adjusted his glasses in a deceptively careless fashion. "I don't really know how to break this to you, but have you seriously considered your situation? At the risk of raining on your parade, you're not really in any sort position to make demands. At least...now that the seal has worn off." he gave another rather cheerful smile. "Consider for a moment, let's say, that this encounter turns violent. All I really have to do is make enough racket for one of the THREE extremely over staffed armies occupying this city to come calling. I hate to be one to make judgements, of course, but I'd be more then willing to bet you have a criminal record, while as my own was stricken clean earlier this very day. Not to mention the throng of witnesses from the bar that saw you attack me. They'll probably believe me over you, wouldn't you say?" he raised both eyebrows casually. "Anything that you receive from me, will most problebly be because you ask nicely." he seemed to consider it for a moment. "Though I DO have to admire you sense of flare. So I suppose you may dispense with the "nicely", but you should at least understand that you are, in fact, asking." he finished this with a jovial smile, that suggested he was rather enjoying himself.

"As for information," Xenon mused to himself, stroking his chin. "why me specifically? And what is it that you wish to know? I don't really have a great collection of secret knowledge. Assuming that it isn't regarding myself personally, that is. Assuming that, there's really nothing that I have any cause not to tell anyone. In fact, I rather enjoy telling people things I know that they don't, inflates the ego you know." he said with a joking regard. "All that taken into account, this entire situation could have been easily resolved by...oh...I don't know...asking...?" he gave a slight shrug, the highly bemused grin still on his face. He gave a a final chuckle. "But...I suppose you seem to mean well...even if you've all the tact and social grace of dire wolf...an ill tempered dire wolf. Lead on." he followed after the older boy, missing the weight of his staff at his side. He would have to go back and retrieve it from the bar later...he supposed Eve might have the sense to pick it up.

He looked over at the other person who seemed to have been rather suddenly dragged into this situation. Miss Violetta it seemed. He gave a slightly curious smile that the girl was following along with them, raising a brow. "I hope you won't take this as any sort of assumption upon the nature of your character, Miss Violetta," he seemed to be on the verge of giving a small laugh "-but do you often follow strange men down alley ways?" He had originally assumed that she was from Seirun, by the miniscule hints of her dialect. It was subtle...but he'd been listening for it. Whenever he met a women, the very first thing he tried to discern was whether they were from his own land of birth, or otherwise. It helped very much in discerning where they were coming from. It was a habit, almost a subconscious one, but he was second guessing it in this case.

Violetta's reaction to being called a girl suggested that, at the very least, if she had been born in his country, she had since, like him, been far and abroad in the interim. Still... he supposed he might be imagining it... he had once thought the same of another girl from Wendel who'd merely just spent an extended period of time in Seirun, so it was really no true indication. He mentally waved it aside.

"Life's a drag, your a nuisance, just another day in life."

Maka was getting irritated by Xen's never ending speech. But, as annoying as it was, he did bring up some good points. "As I've already told you before, I took you to use you as a possible ransom. And the reason I didn't just ask was simple, I know that you knew who took the wallet and the papers, and simply asking after stealing something from a mage and quite the scary enhancer would not be the best of ideas." He explained as he shrugged and continued to walk down the alley way. But, he came to a dead stop when Xen started to talk about how his slate was cleaned and that he could easily call for help from the military. His carefree attitude suddenly changed into a dark, hardened voice and tone. He turned his head back and glared at Xen, one hand on his rune sword. "The military? What a joke. I've already been to hell and back, they would never be able to catch me. I've stolen from those that guard themselves with supposed toughneck goons and the best of everything, and they all fell to me, their souls begging for mercy as I slaughtered them one by----" He stopped as he suddenly changed back into his normal self and started to sniff the air.

"Hmm? This sent... I've smelt it before somewhere, but where?" He muttered to himself. He closed his eyes, listening for an odd sound among all the others, but found nothing special. He gave up and turned back to the others. "Listen, all I need is information from a specific individual, nothing more, nothing less. I'll give you the details once we find somewhere we wont be seen or heard." He continued as he started to walk towards an old abandoned wheat storage/trade house. Inside was broken and dusty, but it suited their current needs. And besides, Maka was used to these kinds of things.

He walked over to an old wooden table and sat on one of the chairs, placing his sac onto the table. He took out some salted meat, the alcohol and cups, and a small box of matches. Lighting the matches, he held it in one hand, while bringing the other up in front of it, causing a blood-red rune to appear on his hand. "I.lluminare ignis, derivare statera, obedire meis et ligaveris ad voluntatem; ignire!" He chanted, causing the small flame to grow to the size of a chicken. He brought the hand that hand the rune on it back, then jabbed towards the spiderweb filled fireplace, lighting it in moments.

Violetta found herself slowly zoning out as Xenon talked... he was clever, but she'd never been one to listen to short speechs. She could barely pay attention after 'hello', how was she expected to listen to this man she barely knew babbling on about something to another man she didn't want to know.
He hadn't even paid attention to her... stupid Maka. Sighing in a rejected fashion her mind wandered, steps slowly significantly before she quickened her pace... still lost in thought...

What was Rose doing right now? Rose, her nurse maid (more of a mother then anything), was such a nice woman. She probably wouldn't approve of Violetta wandering around Vanguard with just a few pennies to her name... and not only that, but following strange (rather curious looking) men down a dark alley way.
Who was to say they wouldn't jump her suddenly? It could happen, you know. But Violetta felt that she could take care of herself... the small dagger she owned clutched in her hand, hidden neatly underneath her cloak.

It couldn't do much, sure, but at least it was something.

Zoning back off her mind wandered back to Rose, back to Seirun. She'd probably never go back there again... but then again why did that matter? It wasn't like anyone would pursue her here... right?
Biting at her bottom lip skeptically she sighed, mind lingering on the negatives. Perhaps they would, perhaps they wouldn't... who cared, really? Violetta's existence was small, miniscule... no one cared, nor would they ever care, for someone so pathetic.

She thought so highly of herself, didn't she?

Licking her lips she realized how insanely parched she was, a grimace forming over her face. Back at home she was never thirsty... never hungry... but these days of wanderings had certaintly shown her a new way of living. A way she wanted to turn away from... but knew she couldn't, for fear of her own life... for fear of her family's life.
Or adopted family, in this case. Popping her lips quietly she felt someone's eyes on her, her own red hues flickering up to rest on Xenon.

She heard that edge of almost laughter lingering in his voice, a small smile gracing her features. She was pretty when she smiled... which wasn't very often. At least not anymore.
"I don't often follow men anywhere," she said truthfully, "But I'm curious. I can take care of myself, Mister Xenon. Don't fret over me."
She scoffed quietly, eyes trailing away from his face. She reached up and tugged the hood a little higher on her head, a soft smirk on her features.

This was going to be interesting, wasn't it?

Feeling a spasm of excitement run through her slender body she let her eyes return to Xenon, flashing to Maka's back for a moment in utter annoyance.
"Besides that... do you often let yourself get knocked out?"
She was obviously teasing... that small smug look still on her face. Some hated her for that look, but hey, that's just who she was. She couldn't help the way her face decided to change... especially when it involved pissing someone off.

She paused suddenly, staring up at the rundown... well, what was it? Some sort of weird... whatever, it didn't matter. It was a old building that looked as if one strong wind blew by, it would simply just give in and topple over. Pursing her lips at the thought she waited for Xenon to go in first... truthfully, she didn't trust either of them, and would prefer to have them both in front of her so that she could see them.

And she wanted to stand by the door, in case she suddenly needed to bolt... never knew with men.

Akakios An Gaurdious Burnstein
User Image

Akakios watched as Bellius balanced the staff, glancing to it and then back to his eyes and back down, thinking their might be a light or a direction it may point, he wasn't very gifted in the ways of sorcery.

His gaze tearing away from the staff and Bellius as Alouette raised a question. And at Bellius's retort of 'confusion' Akakios ducked his head slightly as his lip curled and he gave a choked laugh.

Shaking his head as he teared away from the laugh, a smile on his face that threatened to waver at any moment as he watched Alouette's slightly exasperated manner. Akakios couldn't deny himself, he was rather curious of what sort of nature a staff like this could hold, but if Eve's dear friend Xen was found that was a mere trivial question in this calamity.

He took a small step to the side as Bellius began to address her, his wild nature causing him slightly off guard as Akakios's gaze did not leave the man as his smile grew to the strangest nature.

Akakios's gaze was immediately turned away from Bellius with no second thought, taken aback at his question. His mouth opening to speak, and though the thoughts rushed in his mind, none of them revealed them coherent for the sake of words.

Thoughts continued to rush through his mind, going to back to the night that already felt like ages ago. The rumors that still scratched along to his coat tails, never letting him forget. He watched as Alouette seemed to scream her sound of offense, and Akakios only glanced over the crowd that slowly began to disperse. His mind miles away from this lovely place, across the sea to a place where peace was no longer known, where children would have run from him if they knew, only those were few.

After moments of glazed over eyes, thoughts far away, the only jump back to the scene in front of him was Bellius's loud laugh. His vision turning away from the dispersing crowd and to the strange red haired man.

A deafening roar still remained in his ears, as if his ears were trying to hear something from the chattering crowd, only seeing a mouthing of words as Bellius seemed to offer the staff to Eve.

He saw her reach for the staff and saw the strangest gaze upon Eve's face, one whose thoughts had turned to where Akakios's were a moment ago. No more than a moment passed with this look as the staff was withdrawn, and watched as he walked off, Alouette following.

He watched the two as he gave a motion he was to follow from behind, his hand reaching out to clasp upon Eve's shoulder. He took hastened steps forward, stopping himself in front of her as he let out in an angry whisper. "Are you mad?!"
